I don't recall when I read it happened, but Paschal led 335 laps in this race once and won. 13. Mr. Big posted: 09.29.2007 - 4:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Boring. Apparently Johnson still wanted to bore the fans to sleep, so he decided to dominate the Coca-Cola 600, most fans favorite race of the year besides Daytona. This just plain sucked. 14. At least we had the extra 100 in this race so he didn't go flag-to-flag 15. Mannoroth posted: 11.29.2017 - 9:45 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Is this the only race of Kyle Busch's NASCAR career, where he didn't have a good car and just literally dropped like a rock multiple laps down without any problem of the car or some other thing? My friend asked me pretty interesting question, if Kyle Busch ever dropped like a rock without any problems... So I'm looking at all his starts, but can't find any other race, where he didn't have a single problem and the car still dropped to the outsider's positions at the back of the field... Things like part/engine/whatever failure, unscheduled pitstop or some other unfortunate circumstance don't count. He has to just drop like a rock (be multiple laps down) and finish the race that way. And I think this is the only example, but I'm not sure... 32. Evan posted: 11.30.2018 - 7:38 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) ^ That car for Kyle Busch wasn't meant for Kyle Busch to win with, it was a research and development car for Kyle to gain seat time and Cup experience and learn the tracks and for HMS to test race set-ups and gain knowledge. That's why he dropped like a rock, it was a more of a test car, not a car to be a serious contender for the race win. ^ Dale Earnhardt Jr. may have gotten too hot in the car and he removed the gloves. It was a pretty hot day that evening if I recall and drivers were doing everything to try to get cooled off. 33. Mannoroth posted: 11.30.2018 - 12:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 32. So that basically asnwers my one year old question, thanks. But seriously, I do know that his car in this race wasn't the same car he had in 2005 during his 1st Cup season. I just wondered, because there are examples, when some debuting driver doesn't have any try-out starts and just jump into a full-time Cup car. The same strategy was used for Jimmie Johnson in 2001, for example. He had 3 horrible finishes, but in 2002, he suddenly won 3 times and finished 5th in the point standings. 34. The year 2004 marked the 15th anniversary of the popular prime time animated series "The Simpsons" and with this race airing on FOX there was a plan for this race to celebrate the occasion with several drivers running paint schemes themed after Springfield's most famous family. While similar promotions with the Looney Tunes, the Muppets, and even the short-lived NASCAR Racers cartoon had succeeded in the past ultimately this one fell through before it ever hit the track leaving the Simpsons on the sidelines. While this deal never materialized "The Simpsons" would eventually be featured on a NASCAR Cup car in 2007 when David Reutimann drove a Simpsons-themed #00 Burger King Toyota with Homer Simpson on the hood during the Brickyard 400 as part of the restaurant's tie-in with the release of "The Simpsons Movie." The 2004 Simpsons promotion was supposedly going to include up to three Cup cars plus Michael Waltrip's #99 Aaron's Busch series entry. One of the Cup drivers would have been Robby Gordon with his orange #31 Cingular Chevy getting a makeover to include a bright green toxic sludge two-tone look alongside its usual coloring as part of a Springfield Nuclear Power Plant-themed scheme.
