To qualify Dale Jr's car in 3rd and put the car at the top of the charts during practice sessions, he did a terrific job driving the car after Junior got out. That kid will be a NEXTEL Cup superstar in years to come. 3. Greg posted: 10.22.2004 - 8:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Earnhardt Jr ran 62 laps before surrendering the car to Truex Jr. 4. First race that Carl Long's own team (46 car) made a race since the wild ride @ The Rock. 8. I went to this race and sat next to a pair of junior fans, one a fan about my age (13). I watched Martin jump in under yellow, ride around, and eventually spin. Later on he was about two laps down, during a green flag run, but running third in line. The kid taps me on the arm and exclaims that JUNIOR IS THIRD!!!!! I then pointed to the pylon in the infield which read #3. 12. He insisted it was wrong. I was so frustrated in arguing my point I asked my pops for a ten, got up and got a thing of fries. He justified every Junior fan stereotype ever. To this day I still occasionally yell JUNIOR!!!! whenever he jumps into the lead during races. 10. Every car didn't run the full distance (or try to). Hermie Sadler, Carl Long, and Morgan Shepherd all S&P'd. It is questionable as to whether or not Bodine and Ted Christopher S&P'd, since "engine" can sometimes be used as a S&P excuse but sometimes it is legit. Generally, when a car retires because of something like ignition, transmission, or overheating, and its a car that is known to S&P, that means they S&P'd. 13. Anonymous posted: 08.08.2015 - 10:19 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Yeah it makes sense to run 192 laps into a 300 lap race before you "start and park". You do know that ignition can be a legitimate reason to fall out of a race, especially when you're underfunded as Morgan was, right? Transmission and overheating can be, too! But I'm pretty sure you're joking because I don't think anyone is stupid enough to believe that someone who falls out with 40 laps to go in a 300 lap race is a "start and park" 14. MAR posted: 08.08.2015 - 10:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) IMO once you get to the first green flag pit stop in this case New Hampshire that would be about 80-90 laps if a car made it that distance that's considered a start and park car they actually attempted to run the distance those guys had legit problems so in that case nobody start and park this race. 15. Dave Charpentier hung around PPI for a little bit longer in a different role, but left before the end of the season to call the shots for PPC instead. 46 crew chief - DJ Copp (yes, that DJ Copp) 89 crew chief - Fred Bickford This was a busy weekend at Loudon: -12 drivers pulled double-duty with the Busch race, with relief driver Martin Truex Jr. and the two Cup DNQs (Kyle Busch & Kevin Lepage) in the Busch field as well; Matt Kenseth won that race -The Busch North race was also held Saturday, with Dale Quarterly taking that win -The Mods also ran this weekend, with the late Ted Christopher getting his first win at the track and kicking off a streak of four straight Loudon wins for him. Christopher was the only driver doing double-duty between the Mod race and the Cup race, finishing 36th after a late DNF in the Kirk Shelmerdine car. It was a very admirable performance for the #72 team, though, make no mistake. That Mod race was also the last race that Tiger Tom Baldwin Sr., father of #9 crew chief/team director Tommy Baldwin Jr., ran prior to his death in a race at Thompson later in the year. 23.
