They have every right to vent out their frustration, or jubilation in the case of junior. If nascar had implemented a 5-7 second delay in the first place, then junior would have remained on top of the standings and I wouldn't have had this discussion at all. BTW, congrats to junior in finally winning at talladega! 3. Tom Steen posted: 10.06.2004 - 5:30 pm Rate this comment: (3) (1) I just think the 25-point penalty to Dale Jr. evens it out after they gave Junior the win. A wreck in the middle of the pack on the last lap, and no caution? Oh, that's right, Junior is leading, can't throw a caution, he might not win. They wrecked in the middle of the field on the last lap at Michigan in June, and threw the yellow immediately, but at 'Dega, with Prince Dale leading, no yellow. No consistency there. At least they were consistent with the cursing penalty for Junior. If Sauter and Hornaday are docked 25, Junior needs to get the same penalty. I don't like the rule, but at least they were consistent. 4. Jake posted: 10.06.2004 - 11:24 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) What an awesome race w/ Jr. being in 11th w/ 5 laps to go and ends up winning!!! That's awesome!!! It was bull**** enough that NASCAR penalized Dale Jr. 25 points for cursing. I understand being fined $10,000 but taking points away is overzealous. They better give Dale Jr. his points back. NASCAR has to get with the program and wake up!!! 5. Fitz posted: 10.08.2004 - 1:14 am Rate this comment: (1) (1) Right on, Jake! And news flash: NBC, and possibly other tv networks, are considering implementing a 5-second delay on all nascar events. That way, all racers would finally "let themselves loose" and no longer worry about being penalized anymore. Plus, I've heard that junior and his team are still appealing that penalty, and I hope the penalty gets overturned. 6. Not only at Talladega but at Other Tracks in Winston/Nextel Cup Series. 7. Jack posted: 10.09.2004 - 3:03 am Rate this comment: (1) (5) Do you people know anything? NASCAR did the right thing by penalizing Junior. It's his fault he can't control what he says, and I hope he loses the championship by less that 25 points. 8. Anonymous posted: 10.14.2004 - 2:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) There is one set of rules to be followed by everyone, Jr. is no exception, therefore, he should be penalized (and was.) Some fans out there think Jr. is above the rules and everything, and I'm tired of hearing people gripe about Gordon or Jr. It's old. 9. Jake posted: 01.16.2005 - 10:46 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) Those last 5 laps were like a replay of the 2000 fall race at Talladega when Dale Sr. came from 18th to 1st in the final 5 laps. In the 2004 fall Talladega race, Dale Jr. was in 11th with 5 to go and ended up in Victory Lane. It was his 5th Talladega win, halfway from his dad's 10 Talladega wins. Although Junior has to do a lot of the live up to the stuff his dad did, I really think Dale Jr. can win 11 Talladega races. 12. Mike D posted: 02.19.2005 - 8:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) WOW! Thomas posted: 09.01.2006 - 7:08 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Anonymous0 is absolutely right. If they had thrown the caution in this race on the last lap, it would have helped Junior because the race would have been over and no one would have had the chance to pass him. But they didn't, and they shouldn't have, because it was unnecessary. They did in 2005 and all it did was screw up a great finish. 20. Chunks posted: 07.22.2018 - 8:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I got some advice for Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Don't use one of the seven dirty words on television. 42. SK posted: 11.08.2018 - 12:16 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Jeff Green and Biffle both took HARD hits in their respective accidents, with Green going head-on into the outside wall (a la Earnhardt) and Biffle slamming the backstretch wall at an angle not unlike Stanley Smith's. Thankfully, neither driver was hurt. Brendan Gaughan had a wild up-and-down day through the running order even by Talladega standards. After working his way from the back into the top 10 around halfway, he came onto pit road too hot when making a green flag stop and was mired back in 40th for a while, half a lap down to the leaders and losing ground steadily until the lap 122 caution saved him. After that he ping-ponged from the back to the front and narrowly missed being a part of the wreck on lap 179 (he swerved to the right to avoid cars slowing to pit; Sterling Marlin was directly outside of him and did the same only to slam into the #18). The resulting pit call to stay out shot him from 18th to 1st, and after briefly falling through the middle lane of deep three-wide traffic, he managed to recover for that career-best finish. And when Elliott Sadler took the checkered flag in mid-air, his brother Hermie was crossing the start-finish line at almost the exact same time - a racing family moment like no other. 43. Kerry received damage but was able to hang on to the pack, but any chances of a good finish was ruined at a competitive run 46.
