Too bad Jimmie and Jeff didn't crash each other on the final lap so Dale Jr. could take the win. One thing in this race got me really mad. Ryan Newman was on the pole and Kasey Kahne qualified 2nd. When they took the green flag, Kasey beat Ryan Newman to the line. The rule is you can't do it and you get a black flag. Kasey got 0 penalties, whereas Martin Truex Jr. beat Johnny Sauter to the line at IRP because Johnny stopped and Martin got black flagged. NASCAR needs to wake up and stop playing favorite to people like Jeff Gordon and Kasey Kahne, they should recieve penalties too that other people recieved. 8. He was in the car when it crashed. 10. Brian posted: 02.26.2005 - 10:27 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Great win for johnson. But kahne obviously had the car to beat. And after he blew a tire and crashed Mark Martin and Ryan Newman were flying through the field but they got banged up in someone else's crash. 11. Chicago posted: 03.17.2005 - 12:06 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) Did I say I did? No. For all you know, I may respect the guy as a driver, but anyone who wants to see a crash, something that might harm other competitors, just so their driver can be victorious is just sad. It's fans like Jake who are disrespecting the sport. Kind of fans who threw beer cans onto the track at Talladega. 13. That might be the most inane comment I have ever seen. First, that was posted as "anonymous". Why did you get mad Chicago? Unless that comment was yours. Obviously you're right. Comments like that are disrepecting, no matter how much you want your driver to win you can't wish harm on another. 14. HomeDepot20TS posted: 08.23.2006 - 11:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Special paint schemes dominated this race. The special Hendrick Platinum cars were 1-2, the Budweiser World Series car was 3rd, the Irwin car (not nearly as regular a scheme as now) was 4th, the GI Joe/US Army car 5th, the Combos car 6th, the Piedmont Airlines RCR car 9th. Only Dale Jarrett, Jamie McMurray, and Tony Stewart had their regular skins for their top ten results. 17. HomeDepot20TS posted: 08.23.2006 - 11:58 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Plus Kasey Kahne dominated in the Mopar Specialty car and Mark Martin's white Viagra car was probably the best car after that. 18. Rob posted: 03.07.2009 - 12:46 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I consider the fall of 2004 to be very underated when it comes to great races. This particular race while not the best by any means is probably one of my favorites. Jeff Gordon was involved in two crashes and still was able to finish second. The most memorable moment in this race for me though would be the wreck Brian Vickers had. He came off four got loose overcorrected and slammed the safer barrier so hard that all four wheels came off the ground for a second or so. Following that there was a red flag to repair the safer barrier. In fact I believe that this may have been the very first race where they stopped it to repair a safer barrier. This was also the final Lowe's race before they messed up the track surface that resulted in tire problems galore in 2005 and eventually resulted in them having to repave it for the 2006 season. 23. Schroeder51 posted: 10.14.2011 - 2:10 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Not to mention that it was the THIRD time that year he crashed out of the lead of a race. Slipped on oil at Dover, spun by Tony Stewart on a restart at Chicago, and here blew a tire. Couldn't help but feel good when he finally did win a race in 2005. 29. joey2448 posted: 05.22.2012 - 2:46 am Rate this comment: (3) (0) I remember watching Jeff Gordon struggle mightily at the beginning of this race, eventually leading to him spinning out and being hit by Rusty Wallace. Then, little by little, Jeff made his way up through the field, into the top-20, then the top-10, and almost passing Jimmie for the lead late in the race, only to finish second. Quite the impressive comeback, one of the best I've ever seen. 30. And also, Kurt Busch may not have won the championship had he not come back from his damage on the first lap. So you could say this race is the reason Jimmie Johnson isn't a 6-time champion. 32. Jimmy Spencer had a great night going for an underfunded team ran into the back of Brendan Gaughan. It looked like Brendan was either diving onto pit road late or got loose and was way out of the gas. Nowhere for Jimmy and Mark Martin to go and crashed. Not Jimmy's fault 45.
