With that said.... shame Kyle Busch couldnt catch Johnson at the end, he'll win soon enough. 2. I just wish NASCAR did away with these rinky-dink fines, though. A $35,000 fine isn't going to effect a team that just won $420K. Nor is a 25 point deduction. (Nothing against Johnson, I just wish NASCAR actually punished people for breaking rules) 3. larry posted: 03.16.2005 - 6:20 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) what i think is funny is the fines are close as far as dollar amount......er lets see trying to bend the rules in johnsons car or installing a few diferent parts in harvicks car 4. Don posted: 03.16.2005 - 8:10 am Rate this comment: (1) (2) I would like for NASCAR to be consistent. Remember a few years ago when Mayfield's team put stuff in the fuel. That was 50K, and 112 points. I'm not sure I agree with or even understand the car not being the right height, but for Johnon and Harvick to be fined the same there is not right. Here is what I'd like. For this rule violation that Johnson did. He keeps the victory, but not the money or the points AND, he's automatically parked for the next race. Imagine if this season comes down to the end like last year and Johnson misses out on the prize by less that 25 points. That shouldn't be championship affecting. But losing points for the current race you've won and then being parked for the next race, that will give the person in points right behind like McMurrary last year, the opportunity. That way there isn't the fluke like Mayfield was getting in the chase last year. 5. Chicago posted: 03.17.2005 - 12:24 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) I don't know if you could call Mayfield getting into the chase a fluke. He put himself in the position to get there, and when Busch ran out of fuel he capitalized. McMurray's team attempted to cheat, or bend the rules, no matter how you look at it, regardless if you they were ignorant of them or not. He had other opportunities to make up the points elsewhere -- I do recall that his team had several engine failures elsewhere that also hurt his chances. I do agree that Harvick and Johnson's fines should've been different. I don't think that Johnson's crew "accidently" had the height on that car adjusted, nor should the same be said about Busch. Why the oddballs over at tech did not also check out Gordon's car for the same rules bending is beyond me, as it would implicate all of Hendrick Motorsports trying to get away with it. Mayfield putting an additive in his fuel at Talladega (the unidentified crew member) hardly helped his finish. If I recall, he placed fourteenth, near last on the lead lap, that year, despite winning the pole. He simply received no points for the finish, then the next week at Fontana when he won he also received a fine when he leaped on the roof in excitement and the height requirement on the car was ruined. 6. CRASH! posted: 04.14.2005 - 3:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kasey Kahne was involved in his second straight accident, he crashed out in this race similar to his Fontana crash. This was coming out of turn 4. 12. Jake posted: 04.25.2005 - 9:10 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) As for the whole deal between Junior and Brian, it was neither of their faults. What happened was, they headed down into turn 1, and Brian's spotter Danny Culler might have told him he was clear, but he wasn't. Junior tapped Brian, and that's history. It was nothing but the spotter making a mistake. 13. Chicago posted: 04.29.2005 - 4:30 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) I don't think Vickers' spotter ever said "you're clear"; from the roof camera on Earnhardt's car, it looks like he simply misjudges where Vickers was on the track and how they're going down into the corner. Just a racing deal. It looked to me like Earnhardt made an honest mistake. 14. Mike D posted: 08.31.2005 - 2:47 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) ^ Indeed, and at these speeds and sensitivity of the cars, a simple mistake is all that's needed to spin someone. As Chicago said, it was a racing deal, it happens. The whole deal with the penalties, and lack of, was just adding fuel to NASCAR plays favorites fire. They "try" to shake that image, but they don't ever help themselves. 15. Anonymous posted: 03.05.2006 - 3:09 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) As for the 25 points that McMurray lost in 2004. He would have leaped in front of Ryan Newman, NOT Jeremy Mayfield. If you look at the field going into New Hampshire, Mayfield is in 9th, Newman 10th. So much for Mayfield getting into the Chase being a fluke. 16. dalejrfan14 posted: 03.17.2006 - 3:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) even sheppy here beat junior. for shame! 17. Kyle Busch showed a sign of things to come in his career with a second place finish. I feel Busch kind of got a raw deal at Hendrick and really could have stayed there longer, as teammates with Dale Jr., and instead losing Casey Mears instead. 25.
