The key point of the race though, was when he pitted for tires around 30 to go. 2. Brian posted: 06.20.2005 - 6:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Biffle's 5th win of the year. I am soo glad to see his true caliber finally. 3. Chicago posted: 06.20.2005 - 9:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Another top ten by Michael Waltrip's team. Another win for Jack Roush. So much for NASCAR's parity-creating, cost-effective rules package. What a joke. Anyone noticed how Elliott Sadler's decals were coming off during the race? 4. je24go posted: 06.20.2005 - 11:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Greg Biffle is probably the most improved driver from 04 to 05. One thing's for sure. He sure can drive a racecar. 5. KK38 posted: 06.21.2005 - 6:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Even though this was a boring race, I rather take this than a F1 boycott! Congrats to Greg Biffle and the Roush Racing team winning on there home turf making a dark day in U.S. motorsports much brighter. 6. However, great race, best of all, least cautions of any race(so far)! Also, great movie that sponsors this race. Go and see "Batman Begins"-damn good movie. 7. I remember seeing a VISA Race Break during this race in which Chris Myers reviewed the tire problems the previous week, and he said that the tires weren't as big an issue this weekend, but in the USGP, only 6 cars took the green flag. I waited for a commercial break to tune in to SPEED to see the 6-car Bridgestone-shod field race around Indy, and I saw Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello, and Tiago Monteiro take the podium positions ahead of Narain Karthikeyan, Christijan Albers, and Patrick Friesacher. Bridgestone will be the only tyre (British spelling) supplier in F1 starting next year. Imagine if something like that happened in NA$CAR! 9. And that speed was turned in by...Newman? Go figure. Must have been his first career pole or something. 12. This was the second-straight Cup race at MIS that Mark Martin ran a Batman-themed paint job and his second-straight top-5 he scored while doing so. 13. In fact he ran the tires in the ground and barely held off Mark for third. It was hard to find solace in the fact that he had run so good after such a miserable stretch because, well, winning is what it's all about. Was kind of worried, the way the year had gone to that point, that he was going to go winless. One second-place finish doesn't instantly flip the switch and turn one's year around. Or at least it wasn't supposed to, but we all know how the rest of 2005 went. 16. In addition to all the Batman presence here to promote the Caped Crusader's return to the big screen the NASCAR-themed family movie "Herbie: Fully Loaded" was released to theaters two days before this race. The film featured Disney's famous Herbie the Love Bug and his new driver played by Lindsay Lohan (who is still a popular, family-friendly film star at the time) competing in NASCAR. The film was nonsensical and featured cameos from several real NASCAR drivers. It would be a hit although only a small one in the United States while making much of its money abroad. 21. rm posted: 06.24.2020 - 10:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jeff Green broke a rear gear in this one - given as one of the reasons for the extensive cleanup needed for the second caution, as Mike Wallace appeared to have only dropped a small amount of fluid in turn 4 and on pit road - and when interviewed back in the garage, said he had exited pit road like he had "the last 900 other races" without ever previously breaking a rear gear. Obvious exaggeration aside, the veteran driver shouldn't have made such a specific statement. After claiming no rear gear failures in his first 16 years in NASCAR, Green broke his second rear gear just under a year later, following a late round of green-flag pit stops in the Cup race at Pocono in June 2006. 22. The pit road reporters were Dr. Dick Berggren, Steve Byrnes and Matt Yocum. And in the Hollywood hotel were Chris Myers and Jeff Hammond. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
