Congrats to Matt Kenseth on a dominant victory. It's amazing that he was
24th in points after the June race in Pocono and now w/ 2 races to go
before the cut-off he's only 11 points outta 10th. Also, congrats to
Jeff Burton and Rusty on their top 5 finishes.

Dale Jarrett. Nothing but a hasbeen trying to grasp onto the final
straws of what was once an amazing championship calibre career. It is
one thing to pay back Ryan Newman when the field is spread out, it's
another to take out other cars with you and seriously shake up the
championship race while doing it. No class and no maturity, especially
denying the networks' request for an interview.

Carl Edwards wrecked three cars last night. Yet he continues to get away
with it, flashing his Crest whitestrip smile and doing back-flips off
the hood of his cars; a media darling who in the eyes of most people can
do no wrong despite some of the most blatant rough driving seen in quite
a while. Someone needs to take him out back and teach him a lesson,
because sooner or later he's going to start getting put into the wall by
other drivers and it won't be pretty. And what was with hanging next to
Kenseth on the final two-lap restart?

The network telecast was horrible as usual. Plenty of green-flag
twenty-lap commercials, then a caution, then more commercials, missed
restart, inept broadcasting ("Heff Burton"), a relatively silent Benny
Parsons (usually a good thing), etc.

Kenseth was dominant and deserved the win; gritty performance by Jeff
Gordon to somehow come home sixth with at one point was a terrible car.
Earnhardt, Jr. managed to somehow come home ninth without much fanfare
and getting spun around several times, and Ken Schrader's two-tire stop
at one point during the race cost him a great shot for a top-ten.

Other than that, not too good of a race, perhaps the worst Bristol race
in the last ten years. There needs to be a second groove at this track
or they should stop coming to it. It's nothing more but an overrated
crash / caution fest. I think the 95 and 92 caused about six or seven
cautions put together.

More insults against the broadcasters, you never let me down.

Great results for Burton, Rudd, and Wallace in his final Bristol race.
Schrader deserved that Top 10 and came soo close.

Yes, Carl had a bad night. He is a good talent but I think because of
that we've forgotten he's a rookie, hence will make many mistakes and
bad moves. He will get better, in that way, over time.

I will agree that this race was typical Bristol and not that great.

I was at this race.
The party in the campgrounds and surrounding area are great. But with
the NASCAR IROC style cars, there is not any passing unless you spin the
guy ahead of you out. Then that guy gets mad and more spins and more
cautions. Also isn't it time for the networks to start bringing us some
better announcers, the ones they use now are getting pretty boring.
Put Alan Beswick back in the booth where he belongs and bring back Bob
Jenkins.

UHHHHHH....This was one of the most boring races ever, no lead changes
but the Newman and Jarrett contact was the only "entertainment" of the
night.

It would've been cool to see Rusty win his last Bristol race, he might
have if he took tires

Awesome race to be part of. It was Rusty Wallaces last race and the
entire weekend was awesome. We left Wednedsday for the campsite just
outside of the track grounds. We made the trip from Muskego, WI to
Bristol TN in just over 10 hours. The Hooters Procup race was more
entertaining then the truck race was. Met up with some friends from
Alabama and had a great time. The Busch race was fun because we set in
the stands through the 3 times the race was stopped due to rain. And
then the big night came. The Sharpie 500!

Matt won the pole the day before and I was completely surprised. I was
there for it and it was awesome! As Kenseth started catching lapped cars
it got tense as he was in the middle while 4 other cars raced around him
and he was just about to get into an accident. Leading 415 of the 500
laps is pretty sweet. It was the best race by far and was the first time
I ever saw my driver win a race and pole!

As of right now, this is the only race that Matt Kenseth has won from
the pole.

One of the most clutch performances ever, as Matt Kenseth was off to his
worst start of a season in 2005, being 24th in points in mid-June. He
rallied back since then and he dominated this race, leading 415 of the
500 laps, putting him in a position to qualify for the chase.

Matt Kenseth became the first driver in the 21st century who led over
400 laps and won. And as of 12th February 2017, he's still the only one
who did it (Kyle Busch led also 415 laps at Bristol in 2008, but
finished second to Carl Edwards.).

Riggs to drive the car once it was repaired but Harvick actually got
back into his car

From the broadcast:
00 crew chief - Butch Hylton (Hylton had recently moved over to MWR from
KHI a few weeks before this race, getting tabbed to call the shots one
week after driver Benson cooked a motor at Michigan due to overheating
problems)
95 crew chief - Mike Dayton

This was a night for the veterans, the 14 starters in the field that
were 20somethings and combined for 16 wins and 136 top tens during the
2005 season managed to put just two drivers in the top 18 finishers:
Kurt Busch and Scott Wimmer. For drivers like Ricky Rudd, Rusty Wallace,
Mike Bliss, Ken Schrader and Mike Wallace, it was among their last great
finishes in the Cup series and an especially nice sendoff for Rusty
Wallace in his final Cup race at what is almost certainly his best Cup
track.

However, the most notable incident of the night involved one of those
veterans wrecking one of those 20somethings when Dale Jarrett retaliated
against Ryan Newman on lap 318 by intentionally spinning Newman. Newman
was knocked out of the race when Kevin Harvick hit him in the ensuing
carnage, while Jarrett finished 22 laps down. Jarrett mostly escaped
consequences and it has gone down as only the second-best known
confrontation that he had at Bristol in 2005, slotting in behind Shane
Hmiel's infamous Monday afternoon in-car middle-finger directed at
Jarrett during a red flag late in the spring Busch race at the track.
Hmiel was already 3 months removed from his final NASCAR start by the
time this race rolled around.

Also, Carl Edwards rejoining the field very late following the final
caution was an extremely odd sight, as teammate Matt Kenseth essentially
had to race against a lapped Edwards as well as second place Jeff Burton
to get the win in the 2-lap dash.

The driver rating doesn't do it justice as he barely missed out on a
perfect 150, but Matt Kenseth's performance in this race is truly one
the greatest since loop data's incorporation. He lost the lead on pit
road seven different times, and managed to take it back on track all
seven. In fact, the only time anyone passed him on track all race was
Greg Biffle for one lap, which almost certainly was a team order to give
Biffle five bonus points. All while being under immense pressure to
fight his way into the top ten in points with time running out fast.
