It's great to see Junior and Jeff back to their 2004 form of running up front and battling each other. Tony Eury Jr. has a lot of potential and he'll get his 1st points win before the year's out. 4. bifflerox posted: 10.31.2005 - 12:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) JUNIOR CHOCKED!!!!!!!!!!,,,,,,,,,,,, 5. And maybe it was Front Row Motorsports' equipment, but I said Hamilton is winless because that car was WAY off the pace. I think he was several laps down before he dropped out. 11. HomeDepot20TS posted: 11.28.2005 - 10:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) You'd be correct Darrell. My seat was right at the entrance to pit road and I got many a scare seeing an orange car always ducking onto pit road, thinking it was the 20, but it was Hamilton over and over and over. 12. dalejrfan14 posted: 03.17.2006 - 3:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) man junior dominated. i really wished i hadnt junxed him by saying he will win this at the pace he is going.whenever i say good stuff he finishes in thew back.like at vegas i said he made a good move to pit. then he gets caught speeding!angers me that i cant cheer for him 13. michael posted: 03.24.2006 - 6:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ryan Newman has the worst finish and it was 23rd 14. mcmurrayfan posted: 07.09.2006 - 10:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Reed Sorenson makes his Cup debut. 15. Other than Le Mans-type racing, Michael and Marco Andretti in the 2006 and 2007 Indy 500s are the only father-son pair since this to compete simultaneously in top-level racing. 23. Not sure how to list that driver change, but it was originally Chad Chaffin in the field. I'll second that the 2 should be included in the first caution. Hit the spinning 66 and picked up some decent damage, which led to him finishing nearly 70 laps down. The third caution was indeed for debris, but as the caution flew the 07 spun out in turn 1 - simultaneous incidents. 31. JSPorts posted: 11.28.2017 - 7:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I guess it would be a driver change if it happened after qualifying, but since they changed numbers, too, I don't really know, unless the 92 withdrew from the race and the 32 was given their spot. 32. Rob posted: 11.28.2017 - 8:34 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) wow 54 cars showed up... we will be lucky for have 40 for the 2018 Daytona 500. how times have changed.... 33. JSPorts posted: 11.28.2017 - 9:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hopefully there will be at least 44 cars at next year's 500. 35 charter teams plus the 00, 72, 12, 21 & 83 which will all hopefully be full-time (I assume one of them will buy the #16 charter from Roush or lease another one of Roush's charters.) The 75, 66, 52 and Danica will hopefully show up too, so that would put the number at 44. There are 36 guaranteed spots so I'm sure at least that many will show up (the charter teams), so if 4 of the 9 non-chartered or part-time teams show up then that would get the field to 40. But it sure isn't as competitive to make it in as it used to be. That's sad to see. 34. rm posted: 12.01.2017 - 3:10 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) That's awfully optimistic seeing as 42 cars was the max that ever attempted a race in 2017 but I'll save the speculation since we're still months out from the race. To try to at least tangentially tie this comment into this race...I think fall Atlanta used to draw one of the larger turnouts in the 2000s in terms of field size because of the proximity to Charlotte, testing occasionally requiring any R&D car that took to the track to attempt the race, and the fact that it was one of the last mile and a half races of the year - making it a bit of a preview race for the next year. New/part time teams and to-be rookie drivers would show up to try to gain some experience before the next year started. 35. JSPorts posted: 12.01.2017 - 5:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I know it sounds optimistic but there are already 42 confirmed entries for the 500 in December. 36 charter teams plus StarCom's 00 (which Cope says will attempt the full schedule. I doubt that will happen, but I expect them to at least show up for the first month or so), Penske's #12, the Wood Brothers' #21 car, Beard's 75, the MBM 66 and whichever car Danica ends up in. Of course, there's always the possibility that the 12 or 21 teams could buy or lease a charter from a top team, but it's also possible that the 52 or 72 team will attempt the race, so I'd say 42 would be on the low end of probable attempts. 36. Mile501 posted: 12.01.2017 - 8:57 pm Rate this comment: (3) (0) I also think you're a bit optimistic by assuming the current 36 charter teams will still be around by Daytona. 3 of this year's charter teams (#27, #72, and #23) still face uncertain futures. The #21 should be counted among the 36 charter teams since it leased one in 2017, and we know teams like the #16 and #44 aren't returning. I also feel pretty certain that the #12 will buy someone's charter. 37. Rob posted: 12.01.2017 - 9:49 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @36, the #23 will probably be there, they had someone buy a minority stake in the team earlier. 38. Rob posted: 12.01.2017 - 9:50 pm Rate this comment: (1) (3) I also dont think Danica will be able to get a ride, since im pretty sure a lack of sponsorship is one of the reasons why she is quitting... i dont know who will hire her, with no sponsor an her track record. 39. JSPorts posted: 12.01.2017 - 9:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'd be willing to bet that either Ganassi or Penske hires her to run the Daytona & Indy double. The media cirrus that she inevitably brings would probably be good exposure for those guys, regardless of if she has a sponsor or not. It's not like they'd have to pay out-of-pocket for her to run the full season, just those 2 races. 40. Rob posted: 12.01.2017 - 10:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @39, Penske said he isnt interested, but i saw she is talking to Ganassi 41. Luke posted: 04.21.2018 - 3:52 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) So we should put Chad Chaffin No. 92 Chevy was Withdrew because they qualified for the race but gave up to put Bobby Hamilton Jr. in the car (and they changed the No. 92 to No. 32 but still use the owners' points) 42.
