Talk about a shocker!(At least he didn't get bumped out of the way or lose to one of the ROU$H punks...) 2. petros posted: 11.14.2005 - 4:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Isn't it ironic that a sport that was founded by moonshiners is now suspending drivers for reckless drivers. :) 3. Jack Roush suspended Kurt NASCAR had NOTHING to do with it. 4. Maybe it's my anti-Ford bias, but Kurt had no right to be on the track so soon after a violation like that. Who knows if that didn't become a habit? 5. Chicago posted: 11.15.2005 - 4:35 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I do not believe the problem was the reckless driving ticket - had it been anyone else, I'm sure this would've been brushed off, moreso that it was the fact that he (Kurt Busch) is sponsored by a large hard liquor company which uses Kurt Busch's car to market two very popular liquor brands - Smirnoff Ice and Crown Royal, and has created an entire advertising campaign around Kurt Busch and "drinking responsibly", and Busch, who has already showed his arrogant attitude and disrespect toward his owner, team, and fellow competitors, went out, *on a race weekend*, got drunk, then got into his car and almost killed himself or an innocent pedestrian just driving around town. Say what you will, but this was not simply a reckless driving citation as Busch makes it out to be. Kurt Busch was driving under the influence and will get away with the criminal affects of such a charge because of his celebrity status, the lack of credibility on a part of the police department, and a mysterious "malfunction", but the repercussions on his career could last for quite a while. It is already being shown in spades by what happened Sunday morning between him, Geoff Smith, Jack Roush, and Crown Royal. Jack Roush did the right thing to uphold his organization's integrity and the standards he holds his drivers to, and while I have never been a Roush fan by any stretch of the imagination, I applaud him for that. Hopefully Roger Penske takes Kurt Busch under his wing next year, because he's hitting the self destruct button and if he keeps this up, his future in the sport is seriously threatened. Lost in the hooplah of the Busch incident was an outstanding win by another Busch - Kyle Busch, who is quickly becoming quite a talent and a possible chase contender next year, who continues to be "black listed" by many fans due to his family ties with his brother and what seems to be a very bizarre dislike from the head officials at NASCAR. 6. Darrell posted: 11.15.2005 - 11:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Chicago, when you say, "bizarre dislike from the head officials at NASCAR", are you reffering to that idotic penalty at Atlanta when he drove in the grass to avoid Biffle? I agree that Kyle doesn't deserve the bad reputation. What he's done at such a young age is astounding, considering how many burnouts we've had from those his age(Casey Atwood, Loy Allen, etc.) He's ten times the driver his brother will ever be, and even his own family has said that he is more mature than Kurt. I think that's why he left Roush for Hendrick, so he could form his own identity. Or maybe he just wanted to drive for a car REAL manufacturer ;) In all this, we've forgotten. Congratulations on some good runs in this race by Bobby Labonte, Robby Gordon, and Travis Kvapil. 7. But he continued to be suspended. There were other issues aside from the possible DWI, anyway. For starters, he didn't inform his bosses at Roush Racing about this little incident till AFTER he did his qualifying run. That was dumb. And he also tried to use his status as a Nascar driver to intimidate the patrol officers who stopped him. Even though it sounds like the officers kinda deserved to be harrassed, this was still not a wise thing for Busch to be doing. Next season will end better for Kurt... hopefully! 11. By the next weekend at Homestead, they had a proper one made for Kenny. Denny Hamlin wasn't yet used to the spotlight after winning the pole. During an interview with the Speed Channel he accidently misidentified his sponsor as UPS, FedEx's primary rival. They used to have a video of it on YouTube, you should have seen his jaw drop when he realized what he'd done 18. RaceFanX posted: 07.01.2015 - 8:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsor: #6 Mark Martin- Viagra / Salute to You (same for the 2005 Brickyard 400) Before Martin's decision to run another full-time season for Roush in 2006 this was planned to be his penultimate race as a NASCAR regular. While Mark had already announced he was coming back in 2006 at this point his Roush Racing team still gave him a special throwback paint scheme for this race to celebrate, the fourth and final one of his "Salute to You" fan appreciation tour. For this race Mark ran the orange and white scheme with fancy blue numbers he ran in his early ASA days and his first several Cup starts in 1981. This was the only one of Martin's throwbacks that didn't come from his time with Roush Racing. The day didn't go well for Martin as his 14th place finish all but knocked him out of title contention (all the top-4 drivers had to do was start at Homestead which they all did). This was Rusty Wallace's penultimate NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race. Wallace won at Phoenix once, in 1998, but was well done the running order here. This was Wallace's last race with his normal blue and silver #2 Dodge as he ran a blue and gold car at Homestead to celebrate his last race. 26. Anonermoust posted: 12.23.2018 - 8:02 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) A 4-car battle for the lead broke out as Scott Wimmer, who stayed out before the final restart, fought to hold off Jeff Gordon for the lead. This only made it easier for the two fastest cars in the field, the 5 and 16 to catch up in a hurry. Wimmer actually did a great job fighting them even on old tires. After struggling early on, Kenny Wallace walks away with a solid 16th place finish subbing for Kurt Busch. After DNQ'ing the previous race, Robby Gordon uses a DEI engine and finishes an impressive 8th, battling championship contender Jimmie Johnson in the final stages of the race. Travis Kvapil also scored his second and final top 10 of 2005 in this race. Jeff Green and Brian Vickers also tangled late in the going. They both had an on-track disagreement and Jeff kept brake-checking Vickers and swerving towards him under yellow. 31. rm posted: 07.06.2020 - 8:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) From the broadcast: 07 crew chief - Kevin Hamlin 09 crew chief - Marc Reno 31 crew chief - Scott Miller (preview of 2006) 37 crew chief - James Daly 95 crew chief - Mike Dayton 32.
