He had every opportunity to punt cheater protege into the wall, yet showed Mr. Chump how to pass without causing a wreck. (Talladega is coming I think Johnson's saving it for then) I was curious as to why cheater leader didn't get up there and mess with Tony. After his "I'm going to show the real me" week about shedding his pretty boy image, maybe he's learned a thing or two that gee, a top 5 (2nd) is better (points wise) than punting a guy into the wall (and then blaming a guy you just punted) and then crying like the preverbial baby when he gets "moved out of the way". Gordon said it best in '97 as he banged the fenders off Jeff Burton when the Southern 500 still was the Southern 500. "Come on, man, you gotta do what ever it takes, it's a million bucks." Maybe after last week, he learned that a 2nd place is better than 21st. Money wise, not so much, points? Top 10 in the points is what matters. Oh and on the media hype about irrelevance? Where is Casey? Where is Kasey? I was thrilled for Mark Martin and glad that he's right up there in the points. Talk about overcoming a rough day. It's going to be a difficult season to watch him hang around in the top 5 in points and not win another championship. Go Mark. 5. I cheer for him to win races. I know he is not a physical powerhouse like Tony Stewart, or Dale Earnhardt Jr., but he is a driver with talent. A driver who has won 73 Nascar Nextel Cup races, and 4 Nascar Points titles. You may wish death upon him, or worse, all you desire, but you still don't have 1/100th of his driving skills. 6. This kid, at 20 years old, has tremendous potential. He was the 2005 rookie of the year, and won 2 races, and finished in the top 20 in points. He could win the championship in 2006. I know the Dale Earnhardt fans love to tout the fact that Dale Earnhardt followed up his rookie of the year in 1979 with a championship in 1980. If Kyle Busch could do win the championship at 21 years of age, it would be that much more impressive. P.S.-I think the odds of Kyle Busch winning the championship in 2006 are very low. It is possible based on his performance in the first 6 races, but I think the competition is too formidable. 7. Thomas posted: 04.04.2006 - 4:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) And by the way, Jeff Gordon fan, it's easy to say that Jeff Gordon is a good driver if you look at the statistics, but even I could win a race as long as I had a cheater car and a front bumper made of steel to strike away the competition. Let me think, 2 wins at Bristol, 2 at Martinsville, the Million Dollar Southern 500, and the 1997 Winston at Charlotte, among others, are races little Jeffie won, but not because of talent. 11. Go pull for smokey the bear to win another one this year. and I mean he really looks like smokey. 13. Thomas posted: 04.05.2006 - 1:12 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Steve, if by uneducated you mean that I've watched every Nextel/Winston Cup race since Bristol in August of 1993, every Craftsman Truck race in history(except 3), and every Busch race since Daytona 1994 (except 3), not to mention every IRL race in history, and every Formula One race since Australia 1996 (except 2); in addition to an overall wealth of knowledge and interest of the sport, plus becoming the host of a new show about racing that will premiere in the coming months on my college's TV station, subsequently broadcast to nearly three million people, then yeah, you could say I'm uneducated. By the way, who the hell are you referring to as "smokey the bear"? Greg Biffle? Yeah, he's my favorite driver. So what? 14. Don posted: 04.05.2006 - 5:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't wish death upon Gordon. What I don't like about Gordon, or Hendrick Motorsports for that matter is Rick Hendrick is a criminal. Yes, I know he is pardoned. In legal terms, a pardon means that you are free and clear of what charges/sentence were placed upon you. I don't like the fact that Rick Hendrick seems to think that HE discovered Jeff Gordon. Who, may I ask, GAVE Jeff Gordon his first ride in the Busch Series? It wasn't Rick Hendrick. Hendrick saw him and stole him. How many drivers has Hendrick strong armed into driving for him and if the performance isn't there, where are the drivers? Can we name them. How many Gordon fans even know who drove for Rick Hendrick before 1993? I could go on and on about all the things I don't like about Gordon, but this to me sums it up best. Gordon's stepfather did what ever it took to get Jeff to the platform he is at right now. Where is this mystery man now? Why don't we ever see or hear about him? Gordon is a sellout. He is the biggest cheater in NASCAR History. That isn't hating Gordon, that is fact. Oh, one more thing. As for Gordon having talent? Check your testing record, but 1999, the 24 team was testing at Talladega. The 24 car had the fastest time on day two. And it wasn't the 4 time Winston Cup/Nextel Cup champion, with 73 wins that was in the car. Some guy by the name of Bobby Hillin, Jr. Just one more thing about talent vs. the car. DW was in the twilight of his career. Couldn't hardly even make a race anymore. He was put in the Pennzoil car when Steve Park was injured. He almost won at Pocono. Benny Parsons has such a love affair with Jeff Gordon, I think even he could sit in the 24 car and win races. It isn't all about talent. Kurt Busch, Jamie McMurray and Kyle Busch prove that. Hey Thomas, e-mail, I'd like to discuss some racing with you. 15. Thomas posted: 04.07.2006 - 3:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I love you, Don!!!!! Where have you been all my life!!!!! 16. Two Cents posted: 04.09.2006 - 5:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Gordon's stepfather wanted to be a racer, but for whatever reason, he failed. He decided to turn his stepkid into a racer at all costs, and brainwashed Gordon. Tiger Woods' father did the same thing to him, except it was golf. 17. Two Cents posted: 04.09.2006 - 5:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) As far as Gordon being a sellout, you're right. All of these guys will put their name on any piece of junk they think will sell. Dale Earnhardt's name is on more junk than any other driver in history. Selling out means making money at the expense of integrity, and Earnhardt's widow is doing it better than anyone else. Those Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. fans will buy literally anything with their savior's name or car number. Dale Earnhardt is fast becoming another Elvis Presley. 18.
