Tony Stewart drops out of the top 10 in points, after getting spun by Ryan Newman. Reed Sorenson was having a good run and pitted before the green-white-checkered. David Stremme has a season best finish. Jeremy Mayfield's 400th career start. Also Denny Hamlin runs out of gas battling for 2nd coming out of turn 4 on the final lap and still comes home 6th. That's my scoop on this race. 2. He had the best car out there, and probably would have won anywy. 4. I was PIIIIIIIIIIIISED!at the entire race. 5. JPM2007ROTY42 posted: 07.17.2006 - 4:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Waltrip added to "the drama of TNT" by wrecking out under the caution flag?!?! Also congrats to Mark Martin on start 600. 6. michael posted: 07.17.2006 - 4:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) i love that cereal guy kyle busch winning 7. mk17ce99 posted: 07.17.2006 - 4:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Matt Kenseth took a 30th place car and finished 14th, passing Jeffy Gordon at the line. That must have really pissed Gordon off as Gordon had a top 10 car all day and was relegated to a 15th place finish while a 30th running car all day passed him! 8. Steve posted: 07.17.2006 - 10:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think the drama on TNT is wondering when they're coming back from a commercial break they went to just 5 seconds after coming back on the air. Rookie David Stremme gets his best career finish (11th), as he propels the #40 Dodge closer to the Top 35 (ironically the car that is 35th in owner points is the #14 car driven by Sterling Marlin, who drove the #40 last year) and this is Dave Blaney's best of the season (13th). 9. Steve posted: 07.17.2006 - 11:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I should say WAS 35th in owner points, because Sterling's 16th place finish vaulted him ahead of Kenny Schrader in the standings. 10. Have to convince the wife that we need cable. 12. Don Hintz posted: 07.19.2006 - 4:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I wasn't watching this race, but had it on the radio. From listening on the MRN broadcast, during the first part of the race there wasn't much talk about any drivers other than about the top 5 or six. Even though there was quite a bit of racing going on, still, all you heard was Burton leading, and then the battle for 2nd between two and three drivers. I was watching the Coca-Cola 600 from 2000, (which happened to be on TNT) and about all they showed was the car in the lead. Their commercial breaks were certainly different though, it was 4 commercials and then back to the race. In many ways, the coverage and graphics and in car telemetry is greatly improved, but if you don't care for the broadcasters, watching the races any more is becoming quite painful. Seemed like a weird race for NH. The points really took a jumble this week, but I'm still not a fan of the "Chase" Obviously Johnson and Kenseth are doing what they need to do, and I'd like to see it come down to those two. Interesting though, Johnson hasn't had much of the "bad luck" yet. I think back to Kenseth's championship year and he had such a huge lead, didn't have a lot of "bad luck" through the season but yet ended up 43rd at Miami. When you look at the points, after Richmond that year, Kenseth had a 418 point lead and won the cup by only 90 points. Even in 95 and 95, Gordon did sort of the same thing, the last few races or so he had the "myth" that he couldn't win in Ocotober. 98 changed that. One can look at wins and say that Kahne is having a great year, compare to last he is, but most of the rest of the top 10 other than Matt and Jimmie are having the roller coaster rides. NASCAR rewards for consistency, which is important, and not so much for wins. But then again, would we want to see another 1967? 13. I really enjoy finding out about EVERY driver in the field, and not just the media darlings. 14. I didn't see the race, but I saw a clip of Matt Kenseth taking the checkers, and Allen Bestwick was calling the finish. If the race had been on TNN, we would have heard the voice of Eli Gold. And Matt Kenseth is on his way to becoming a legend. 18. biffle16 posted: 10.31.2006 - 10:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Harvick backed off from Biffle. Yeah, he better back off. 19. Bill Weber gets too anxious saying "the caution is out the race is over" at one point. 20. 18fan posted: 06.26.2011 - 4:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Probably one of Reed Sorenson's 3 best races in Cup, although his great drive was spoiled by the green-white-checkered. 21. I think his career best performance was 2008 speedweeks when he finished top five in all three races. 26. Pretty interesting that this is the only Kyle's fuel mileage win out of 172 other races he won in NASCAR. The same for Jimmie Johnson, who won the first race at Phoenix in 2008 thanks to fuel mileage. It's also his only fuel mileage win in Cup. 28.
