Strong runs for Kevin Lepage and Dave Blaney though. 2. He won California earlier this year and also has won at Richmond before and had a really good car in this years spring race before a brake rotar broke the oil tank and ended his night. He was running second at the time. Awesome win for Matt. Tought luck for Burton just seems like they never have the right adjustments at the end of the race to keep up with the competition. 4. Let's hope NA$CAR decides to not throw him out of any more races for no reason like in the Busch race. 7. Steve posted: 08.28.2006 - 11:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Matt Kenseth wins back-to-back Cup races for the second time in his career. In 2004 he won at Rockingham and the next race at Las Vegas, where he won the race the year before. This year, he won at Michigan and at Bristol the next weekend, where he had won the year before. Strong run for Scott Riggs. He moves into the Top 20 in points despite missing the Daytona 500. Kenny Schrader and Dave Blaney get much needed Top 15s. Mikey gets 16th. Travis Kvapil and Kevin Lepage swapped positions in the closing laps, finishing 20th and 21st. Great results for three go-or-go-home cars. When Scott Riggs passed Jeff Gordon late in the race, they made contact, but it was nothing more than typical Bristol contact. Jeff gets upset with that, yet he can have a clear conscience after bumping someone out of the way or spinning someone out. 8. XAC33 posted: 08.29.2006 - 2:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Typical exciting Bristol race, short track racing is loved by all fans, take note NASCAR. After a 3rd place run Dale Jr. actually had positive things to say about his team for the first time in weeks. Looks as if though for the first time in probally 3 years, Jeff Gordon, not Jimmie Johnson has the besh Hendrick car out there. Jimmie is sliding late in the year once again, despite the brickyard win. One of Tony Stewarts worse runs ever, excluding mechanical problems and wrecks. Unusual to see that team perform that pourly. Maybe his psychotic behavior is wearing on the team. Also a note to Steve above. Riggs was upset with Gordon, not the other way around. Quit Gordon bashing and realize he a hugh part of why the sport is where it is today. 10. Kevin posted: 08.29.2006 - 5:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I agree with Steve, Jeff Gordon get bumped, he is upset. He spins Kenseth and it's just racing! That is not Gordon bashing, but a fact!!! Riggs you did good!!! 11. mk17ce99 posted: 08.30.2006 - 5:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah Gordon was a hypocrit in his interview he gave at Bristol. He said that he wished Riggs would have passed him on the straightaway. I think Matt Kenseth would have also liked for Gordon to have passed him on the straightaway, but I guess that didnt happen either... 12. Thomas posted: 08.30.2006 - 6:48 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Steve, you're right. Gordon has no guilty conscience whatsoever. The sport didn't get to where it is today because of Jeff Gordon, XAC33. I think the sport is where it is today because of promotion, overall interest of the drivers and their heritage, and sponsors' willingness to realize that a NASCAR car can be percieved as a moving billboard to corporate America. Also, it helped when open- wheel racing split in 1995 ;) However, you are dead on and funny about Tony Stewart and his psychotic behavior! Scott Riggs is hilarious too! I wish he could win some races. 13. ASS posted: 08.30.2006 - 11:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Brian Vickers should have won! 14. Steve posted: 09.01.2006 - 5:39 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) You're right, "ASS". Brian Vickers should have won this race. He flew through the field up to 25th after starting 20th, until he had his tire problem at Lap 10 or 12 which took away his sure victory. Darn racing luck! Another 2004 rookie, Scott Wimmer, made his 100th start in this race. It turned out to be his worst Winston/Nextel Cup Series start and finish, starting 43rd and finishing 42nd. The 4 car will probably miss the Top 35 again this year. In my opinion, Scott is one of the biggest mysteries of the Nextel Cup Series. He was impressive in the #22 at the end of 2003, making him my choice for 2004 Rookie-of-the Year. He looked alright for ROY after 6 races, but his year (and Cup career) went downhill from there, as he finished 27th in points. 2005 was even worse; he didn't even score a Top 10 or finish among the top 30 in points. This year he has DNQed several times. He is apparently looking for a Busch ride for 2007. He should be looking to drive for Richard Childress, Joe Gibbs, Rick Hendrick, or Jack Roush in BGN. 15. XAC33 posted: 09.02.2006 - 1:01 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Thomas, you find me a driver before Jeff Gordon that had mainstream media appeal. Richard Petty? oh yea he's a looker. Cale Yarborough? people were probally scared to talk to that bear of a man. And I never said he was the only reason for NASCAR's growth. Once again the Gordon hatred in some people just shine on through. Hope everyone is looking forward to the great California race this weekend. Just remember when they're discussing all the crap that MIGHT make it a more exciting race track. They could still be in Darlington on Sunday, and we'd be garunteed a good race. 17. He spun out in front of Kurt and ruined a top 5 run and just adding to a miserable August fot the 2 team. 18. Evan posted: 01.12.2007 - 5:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Just another version of last year. Just two or more lead changes. This race sucked but Kenseth proved he can win more than one race in a season(a la 2003 where he only had one measly win) 21. biffle16 posted: 01.13.2007 - 4:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Scratch that. Drivers are too busy points racing to realize there's actually a RACE going on. I've hated the chase from day one, and sorry NASCAR, I still do. People don't pay money to see an exciting championship, they pay to see an exciting race, and there hasn't been enough of those. Thank God for people like Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, and Kurt Busch, or else this sport would really suck. My idea: No championship. Period. Just racing for money, wins, and pride. But that'll never happen, so just bring back the old one and let's race. 23.
