Rookie Reed Sorenson ran out of fuel with 1 1/2 laps to go, after having topped off with fuel under the final caution. Another rookie, Clint Bowyer, was passed in the closing laps by Dale Earnhardt Jr for what would be the 2nd position, but he finished 3rd, currently his career best. The race to the CHA$E is officially down to 11 drivers. The modern-era record for consecutive Top 10s is 7 in a row. Tony Stewart did it in 1999, Ryan Newman became the second rookie to pull it off in 2002, and now Denny Hamlin has done it. Stewart and Newman eventually won Rookie of the Year, and I'm positive Denny Hamlin will be ROTY in 2006. 3. Darlington, Rockingham, and N. Wilkesboro leap to mind. Lots of nervous people this week as Kahne's win turns Richmond into a loser go home battle, with likely the driver 4 through 10 in points, who has major trouble, being out of the chase. Jeff Gordon continued his good run of late, earned more points since Sonoma than anyone I believe. Obviously Steve is talking about the record for rookie consecutive top 10 finishes. Id imagine J. Gordon holds the modern era record for all drivers with 17 top 5s and 20 top 10s in a row in 98. P.S. TNT/NBC really needs to improve their coverage of the race, parts are just embarassing to watch. 5. racer posted: 09.05.2006 - 4:48 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) i red the article on the race and saw the highlights .. this race was pretty lame just another boring fuel milege race Im glad that i didnt go this time and that i went last year beacuse that race that Kyle busch won was one of the best races ive been to at Fontana.. 6. Good run for Dale Jarrett who's pit strategy took a 25th place car to a 10th place finish. 7. And I agree with you about the boring racing at cookie-cutter tracks like Fontana. I was gone during most of the race, so I put a videotape in to record the race, and as I watched it after I got home, I was fast-forwarding through most of the "racing". There's always something to watch at Darlington; almost every lap someone bounces off the wall or gets really sideways! For a basic recap of the telecast (sort of), try this link: http://www.laidbackracing.com/Articles2006/MM38.html Though I think the thing about BP and food was exaggerated. 8. And the modern era began in 1972, so it counts. I am not sure if that is the record, but it has to be close! 11. dUDE gUY posted: 04.26.2009 - 11:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The modern era for top tens in a row is not 7. Clayton | 09.03.08 - 8:19 am Considering he said Tony Stewart in 1999, Ryan Newman in 2002 and now Hamlin in 2006, I think that he meant to say that it's the record for most top tens by a rookie. 12. The food service company sponsored BAM Racing in 2004 and 2005 before exiting the series after a few races backing Kyle Petty's #45 Petty Enterprises Dodge effort in 2006. 15. Now most NASCAR fans will tell you this track is one of the best races of the season since it has worn pavement and multiple grooves now! 18. JSPorts posted: 04.20.2018 - 9:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) When a track wears, the groove widens out. That's what happened at Fontana, and it made the racing better. It doesn't make for better racing everywhere, but most of the time it does. 20. Gabriel posted: 04.22.2018 - 4:07 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Fontana really began widening out and getting multiple grooves around the 2007 Fall race. The very next race in February 2008 at this track had a several hour delay due to the track weepers. 21.
