Best career finish for Martin Truex, Jr. Dave Blaney continued a strong string of finishes by finishing 12th and Dennt Hamlin comes back from being a lap down in 29th place to score another top-10 finish. 3. I thought the proper way to pass was to punt your opponent around to get past them. The final outcome of this race was just like Chicago. Kenseth leads the most laps and right at the end, runs out of gas. The only thing is, is that Burton knows how to race and most importantly he knows that passing an opponent is done by GETTING HIS CAR AROUND THE OPPONENTS, not spinning them. I'm going to be very busy over the next few weeks, because I'm making probably 40 - 50 copies of the race (shhhhhh, don't tell NASCAR) and I'm going to send the copies to Hendrick Motorsports, and hopefully Jeff and Kyle and Jimmie will watch how passing is supposed to be done. Might send some to Joe Gibbs racing as well. And what about the comments from Gordon that Vickers isn't his team mate? Vickers is supposed to lay down and let Jeff get past him, just because Jeff is going for the Championship? (New Hampshire). What about Chicago Jeff? Was Matt not going for a championship? Vickers raced Gordon hard and didn't wreck him. Gordon didn't race Kenseth hard at Chicago, he spun him and his exact quote was "I didn't mind moving him out of the way. I was glad to see that Burton won, he's one of the few clean racers out there and even with Kenseth running out of gas, it was a great race to see it settled by racing instead of the other crap. We know where Burton learned how to race, don't we? Way to go Vickers, next chance you get, go ahead and punt your "ex" teammate out of the way, then tell Jeff you learned that move from the person best at it. 6. (Although I'd prefer Gordon hadn't spun him). Plus, Kenseth was crying as usual after the race about the fuel thing. (Although I do give him props for being a good sport to Burton for his win). Great job Jeff! Well deserved win! Nice to see a Chevy back atop the points standings, where they belong. 8. Anybody who boos Jeff Burton is just a heckler who needs to be expelled from the grandstands. Awesome battle in the last 20 laps between class-act drivers Burton and Kenseth. I think when Matt said over the radio, "That was stupid!", I think he meant that trying to race Jeff Burton when he was so close on fuel was a stupid choice. Matt even came back from a slow pit stop. Carl Edwards also had a contending car, and like Matt Kenseth, he had a problem in the pits, but he rebounded to finish second. Martin Truex Jr's best Cup finish (6th; top rookie). Bobby Labonte gets a Top 10 (7th). Dave Blaney now has 4 Top 15s in the last 5 races. David Stremme has another Top 20 finish. 10. XAC33 posted: 09.26.2006 - 2:07 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Glad someone managed to sneak some Gordon bashing into this story. There were 2 or 3 laps to go when Gordon tapped Kenseth not 20 or 30. Also Gordon has every right to be bothered by a teammate not cutting him a break when he has a faster car. Anyone notice Hamlin just about pulling off the race track for Tony Stewart in that race???? AND HAMLINS THE ONE IN THE CHASE! Maybe that why Hamlins had more sucess in a month than Vickers has had in his career. Sorry to those non-idiot race fans for spoiling this post with the above commentary. Lets look a little closer at the end of the race Sunday. Kenseth likely runs himself out of gas battling Burton for the win. If he gives up settles for 2nd and saves some fuel he's leading the points and 45 points closer to a championship. I hope NASCAR sees the problem with this. As Ive said before and Tony Stewart as well the winner of the chase will likely be the driver with the least bad luck not the best driver. What a sad system.... 12. mk17ce99 posted: 09.26.2006 - 9:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) There is many variables into Kenseth not winning. Kenseth had an electrical problem late in that run. Who is to say that even if he pitted he still would have been able to work traffic effectively and still have the car to win the race. And XAC33 if you watched the race Burton passed Kenseth with 6 laps to go. Nearly the same situation Gordon had, except Gordon had 2 fewer laps. But if Gordon was patient like he claims he is then he could have easily passed him on the straightaway. Ironic Gordon would criticize Scott Riggs for bumping him in the corner at Bristol for position and then say that he would appreciate it if Riggs would have passed him on the straightaway, I know thats what Kenseth was thinking at Chicagoland. Kenseth wasn't whining about the fuel, he was frustrated that he didnt think to just let Burton go and try to save some fuel. Its frustration not whining, Jeff Gordon whines... 13. bailey posted: 09.27.2006 - 9:57 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Jeff Burton won this race by racing; clean and good racing. Reminds me of the older days at Bristol when you could actually run 2 wide around the track, with no clear advantage. He raced clean, hard, and Kenseth gave him the same clean hard racing back. I miss these kind of races. 14. JG24 posted: 09.27.2006 - 5:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Why is Gordon attacked when Burton wins this race? Don't forget it was Kenseth who first spun Gordon at Bristol. But 'no' we must focus on Chicago. Seems more whining from the Anti-Gordon side to me. Didn't Kenseth have the points lead going into the "Chase"? Please, let's give "Chicago" a rest, as it never hurt Kenseth when he started the "Chase". 15. XAC33 posted: 09.27.2006 - 11:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Excellent point JG24. Also should be noted that Kenseth spinning Gordon at Bristol IS costing Gordon. That spin cost Gordon at least 50 points, which would have been enough to kick him up a few spots after Richmond, meaning he'd probally have 15 more points AND be leading the Chase right now. 16. Anon posted: 09.28.2006 - 5:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) Hey JG23 and XAC33: especially JG24! Why don't the both of you take off your rainbow colored glasses? It was pointed out that two drivers CAN battle for the lead and no one gets spun or "tapped" as you say, XAC33. Uh JG24, if you wanna drop Chicago, why are you bringing up Bristol? But since you brought up Bristol, who had the faster car at Bristol? Seems to me if I remember right, Tony Stewart led somewhere in the neighborhood of oh, 245 laps and Kenseth led oh, 124, but everyone of course should move out of Jeff's way. If it was so wrong how Kenseth "spun" Gordon at Bristol, then why was it ok that Gordon "taps" Kenseth at (can't mention it any more) Speaking of whining, what was it that Gordon said after he DIDN'T WIN TALLADEGA? He can't get any drafting help. (What's the emotion for whining?) Gee, does anyone wonder why? My DVD of that race shows that Gordon, Johnson and Vickers were drafting with each other for a while in that race. Ya wanna stop the whining about (can't mention it), then stop the whining about Bristol. Then again, whining seems to be an inherient trait of Jeff Gordon and a good number of his fans. 17. mk17ce99 posted: 09.28.2006 - 9:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) Exactly! Many people (especially Gordon fans) seem to forget that Jeff bumped Kenseth first to get around him. And they say its a typical style of Bristol racing, the bump and run. Ok, so why is Kenseth's bump any different? He applied the same bump to Gordon that Gordon gave Kenseth and Jeff couldnt hang onto it. Just seems like bad driving to me. If Kenseth can take that slam that Kurt Busch gave him with 4 to go, I would seem to think Gordon could easily handle the light tap Kenseth gave him with 1 to go, but I guess not. Gordon has made a ton of excuses and has been whining all year. Nobody will draft with me, nobody will help me. Thats because when people help you Jeff, you screw them over. Do you think Jimmie Johnson wants to draft you to the lead when he wants to win the race, absolutley not and he didnt work with Gordon because he wanted to win and he did win. Then after the night race at Daytona Gordon calls all the guys behind him idiots because of how they were racing. I dont have enough fingers on both of my hands to count the amount of times Gordon has wrecked guys at restrictor plate tracks. Its either cutting them off or slamming them into the wall. I also love how he can instantly criticize drivers telling them how he wants them to pass, but if it were the other way around it would still be there fault. If Jeff hits somebody, it was an honest mistake, a racing incident but if somebody hits Jeff its always on purpose and payback is coming. Get real Gordon. Race people how you want to be raced! 18. Don Hintz posted: 09.29.2006 - 3:23 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hey guys, since you bring up Bristol, I just watched the end of the race. In the post race interview, Gordon said that he "moved Matt" because Matt was holding people up. Then he went on to say that he was beating and banging on Matt and Matt closed the door on him. That's when Gordon said that he "moved him". Gordon also said that he loved racing with Matt and that is a rare thing coming from Matt. Interviewd Kenseth and he said it was his (Matts) fault. Kenseth then said that he, (Matt) was holding people up because he couldn't get around Jarrett. He said he didn't get the job done. My whole point was in my original post was that I was glad to see the race settled without incident, or somebody wrecking somebody else. All things considered, it sounded to me like Gordon was alright with it after Bristol. I remember Bristol in 95, when Earnhardt Sr. got into Terry Labonte and Labonte came into Victory Lane looking like Old Faithful. I also remember when Earnhardt Sr. rattled Terry Labonte's cage at Bristol in 99. I don't ever recall seeing Labonte getting Earnhardt Sr. back, but somebody else did and old Dale didn't have that smirk on his face after Pocono that he did in Bristol. We've heard this debate all year long among a few drivers about give and take. If Gordon would have demonstrated the same patience with Kenseth as Kenseth was with Jarret at Bristol, Gordon probably would have finished right behind Kenseth and had a lot more points. Jeff is supposed to be the mentor at HMS. He should be the last one complaining about his teammate not moving out of the way. I'd be curious to see how Terry Labonte would have handled that situation. There in lies the difference between a 3rd place finish and a 21st place position. 20. At the end of the season I will see Jeff sitting at the head table and all of you will still be complaining about Chicago. Again how did this hurt Kenseth to start the "Chase"?? Oh wait, I forgot you want to ignore that FACT!!!! We must complain about Chicago. 21. mk17ce99 posted: 09.30.2006 - 6:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Alright, JG24 if it was the other way around it certainly would be different correct?!?!?! If you want to complain about Bristol, which many of the gordon lovers (since there is sooo many haters) always bring up Bristol, our defense is Chicagoland. Im sure he will be remembered for his greatness, for the fans who like him. His legacy is tainted due to the fact that he can spin out other guys, but guys cant even get along side of him and race him!!!! He will be remembered for wrecking drivers who did nothing to him and wrecking other guys who were just in his way. He completely ran over Kurt Busch when Busch had the fastest car at Martinsville in 2005. Busch held his line and there was 30 or so laps to go and Gordon just overshot the corner and drove him straight into the wall. Thats a guy I really want to remember and respect!!! 22. mk17ce99 posted: 09.30.2006 - 6:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Oh, and I almost forgot JG24. It hurt Kenseth in more ways than you can even possibly imagine. First of all he lost owner points for Jack Roush due to being spun out, he lost 20+ positions on track and all the money he would have earned if he would have finished second. Also due to the spin Kenseth was in the back. He raced his way through the field and David Stremme came down and took him out and Kenseth slammed the front stretch wall (pretty hard hit). That car that was so dominant at California, Vegas and Texas is now a smashed up and is a piece of garbage. And since you were so quick to say that Kenseth lost nothing due to being spun out at Chicago, what exactly did Gordon lose being spun out at Bristol??? Absolutely nothing if we compare it to what you are saying. Kenseth made the chase and was in first even though he was spun out at Chicagoland, that is your agruement. Gordon made the chase didnt he?? 23. JG24 posted: 10.01.2006 - 2:01 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) mk17ce99, When have I cried about Bristol?? Re-read my original post. I only reminded all of you haters that Kenseth first spun Jeff at Bristol. They are now even. Don't make it seem as though Kenseth has never spun anyone. Check the Bristol comments, I never complained about Jeff being spun. Duh, yes Jeff made the "Chase". I never said he didn't. Go over to "Whine"consin and get some cheese. I like Kenseth as a driver and person, but tired of his fans still crying, when the bottom line is he STILL led the points when the "Chase" started. Don't even talk about money lost, as we all know they both have enough to get by on. 24. mk17ce99 posted: 10.01.2006 - 3:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) I didnt single you out. I simply siad your name in my post because there is no way of quoting on this site. I believe I said all of the Gordon lovers are still crying about Bristol, not just you. Secondly I never said Kenseth has never spun anyone, I'll call out Matt when he does something dumb, Matt calls out himself as well, something Jeff Gordon has never done and never will do. Thirdly, I stated that Jeff still made the chase because you stated that Kenseth still led the points going into the chase even though he was spun, so he didnt lose much because of Chicagoland. Well my defense to the Gordon lovers who think that Gordon lost sooo much at Bristol would be basically saying the same thing you said about Kenseth at Chicagoland. Oh, and way to be original, "Whine"consin. Thats not even very funny.... Ok, so if the bottom line is that kenseth had the points lead going into the chase, can't I say that the bottom line about Gordon spinning Kenseth no matter what he would have lost or gained is that Gordon is still a dirty driver and wrecks just about anybody to win?!?!? The only defense you have is the money. Its not just about the money, its about the time lost. That car had to be rebuilt from scratch and tested so many times to get back to its original form. Its not all about the money, its about the time and effort that was placed into that car itself. The money is just a small additional factor in all of this. 25. Thomas posted: 10.03.2006 - 8:13 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) By the way, what is it with all of this crap from Jeff Gordon about his teammates not yielding to him. At New Hampshire, he got all pissy because Brian Vickers was actually trying to do what he was hired to do, and what some other drivers should try doing: RACING HARD AND CLEAN. Vickers didn't always know how to do this, but he has shown maturity lately and it is fortunate that he will no longer be associated with King Jeffie next year, even though he's going to drive for $Toyota$. 26. Gordon haters don't think he isn't a legendary driver, we hate him because he's such a jerk (to put it mildly). I'll admit he's one of the best on the track, but his attitude sucks! And your "Whine"consin comment was the icing on your bitter cake. I guess that means Alan Kulwicki, Dick Trickle, Ted Musgrave, Travis Kvapil, and the Sauters just whine all the time. Yes, Matt Kenseth has spun people, but not intentionally, and when he feels it was his falut (most of the time he will take the blame), he will apoligize, unlike the "rainbow warrior", who would rather punt everyone out of the way and send them to the garage area. 29. I was lucky and saw him win twice including his last win in 01 at Phoenix. I truly didn't think we would get another win. Jeff has come so close, had so much bad luck, and was getting older. To go five seasons without a Win is a career killer. When he signed up for RCR in 04 we struggled and 05 was so hard to watch with Carl Edwards winning three times. I remember I was a freshman in high school and my dad and I were watching this race. I screamed so loud for the entire battle that he couldn't pass him, watched the race through my hands, and paced the room like a mad man. When he made that pass my family went wild. This is a memory I will always have with my family. They knew how big of a fan of Burton I was and how epic this win was. Thank you Jeff and Matt 35.
