I like Jr, I think he's a hard racer, but the Nascar/TV bias towards him is a little ridiculous and sickening. Next year = 3 strikes for Nascar, Toyota, COT, and ESPN(ethically diverse coverage) way to go boys. 3. Burton was miffed about the JR thing though, as he was about to go back on the lead lap. David Gilliland matches his career-best fifteenth-place finish. I think he's getting better by the race. 5. Both rookie Brent Sherman at Daytona and Kevin Lepage at Bristol in August gave this (for the most part) underfunded team their best saeson finish: 21st. Notables: Dave Blaney's 200th (Nextel Cup) finish (18th) Todd Bodine has now earned $10,000,000 (in Winston/Nextel Cup) (42nd) John Carter's team have now started 37 races (matching their car number) Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s 5000th lap led (3rd) Travis Kvapil's 6,000,000th dollar earned (32nd) Sterling Marlin has now earned $40,000,000 (20th) Tony Stewart's 80,000th lap (1st, and another fence climb :+: ) Brian Vickers' 30,000th lap and 40,000th mile (19th) 6. On another note,I have a more serious topic...I saw a poll on Nascar.com about the COT.And I was shocked at the results. Now ill ask you guys what you thought.please give your response and tell me why you think that. What do you thin kof the COT? A.I cant wait for it. B.I think its ok C.Why do we even have it? D.I dont know much about it. I cant say exactly what the poll said cause i dont reemember but i can say that C had a landslide "victory". I chose A.So tell us what you think and why. 7. Steve posted: 10.31.2006 - 6:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't have much of an opinion about the COT, so I'm just waiting until I see the racing at Bristol in March, since I haven't seen much of the testing. And now, the battle for the Top 35 in Nextel Cup owner points: Rk. # Owner Pts. 36th 25.38 Robert Yates 3042 +411 26.22 Bill Davis 3013 +382 27. 7 Robby Gordon 3007 +376 28.66 Gene Haas 2980 +349 29.96 Bill Saunders 2950 +319 30.18 Joe Gibbs 2931 +300 31.01 Robert Ginn 2916 +285 32.21 Glen Wood 2845 +214 33.19 Ray Evernham 2759 +128 34.40 Chip Ganassi 2753 +122 35.14 Robert Ginn 2694 +63 Rk. # Owner Pts. 35th 36.45 Patti Petty 2631 -63 37.32 Cal Wells 2414 -280 38.55 Elizabeth Waltrip 2309 -385 The #4 Chevy is now eliminated from Top 35 contention (more than 500 points out), as are the #49 Dodge, the #61 Dodge/Ford, the #78 Chevy, and #34 Chevy. 8. xac33 posted: 11.01.2006 - 1:52 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) The Car of Tomorrow sucks, bottom line. The reason this sport WAS great is because everyone can relate to driving a "stock" automobile. I realize there hasnt been much stock about em in years, but at least they are similar to street cars, but not after next year, they'll be some futuristic looking thing that no one can relate to driving. Maybe the same reason Indy Car racing has never been hugely popular in the US. Love em or hate em, J. Gordon and T. Stewart have been hands down the best 2 drivers in the sport since 2000 and they are both big opponents of the idea. So how can something that the 2 best drivers in the sport go against be that good of an idea? All in all NASCARs on its way down, Robert Pemberton sucks at his job, "debris" cautions are controlling the sport, and an orginization that use to be about putting on great races is now just about squeezing every dime out of it. Im tired of commercials, im tired of hip artists no one cares about signing national anthems, and im tired of constant changes to cars, point systems and rules that try to make a sport that was great somehow better. God bless the Pettys, Allisons, Yarboroughs, Jarrets, Waltrips, Earnhardts, and Wallaces that made this sport great, and shame on the money grubbing executives that are sure to run it into the ground. 9. Don DeWeese posted: 11.02.2006 - 1:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Did no one not notice that Dodge never lead a lap and that Ford only led one. That means that Chevrolet led 324 of the 325 laps. And no one understands the need for the COT. And we are supposed to all agree that each Manufacturer is Equal? 10. xac33 posted: 11.03.2006 - 5:00 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) lets see childress, hendrick, gibbs all drive chevrolet, perhaps its that the reason chevy succeeds is because they have by far and away the best talent. Nascar fined robby gordon for "throwing a piece of roll bad padding out his window" during this race. Why doesnt nascar fine itself for creating their "Dale Jr" caution?? 11. Thomas posted: 11.06.2006 - 7:17 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) xac33, you're damn right about NASCAR and their fake cautions, too many commercials, Robin Pemberton sucking terribly, and how NASCAR is running themselves into the ground by corporate greed. Another reason why Chevrolet leads the most laps: THEY HAVE SO FREAKIN MANY CARS, 21 to be exact. This is why Robby Gordon is moving to Ford next year; because Chevrolet can not adequately fund half of the field. 12. biffle16 posted: 01.19.2007 - 10:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Another example of why Robby Gordon is an idiot. I'd bet my house and all my money that you weren't complaining when Ford had 23 cars in the late 90's. 14. IndyCar racing was hugely popular until the politically-based split happened in 1995, but before the split it was by far the most popular form of motorsport in the US. Most of the races were on network television (ABC), and major companies (like Pennzoil, Texaco-Havoline, Budweiser, Miller Genuine Draft, Valvoline, and Duracell) sponsored top drivers like Michael Andretti, Robby Gordon, Gil de Ferran, and Bobby Rahal. And besides, in the 80s what 4 or 5 year old little boy who was a racing fan DIDN'T want to be Rick Mears? I used to have a Rick Mears t-shirt (which is too small now). 15. The car Robby was battling with for a top ten, Mike Bliss, blew an engine late in going while giving BAM their best run of 2006. After Robby threw the debris from his car, NASCAR docked his points and was awarded less than Bliss, who finished 26th. Jeff Burton also made an attempt to wreck Robby Gordon at Phoenix for not only costing him the title at Atlanta, but racing way too aggressive in the early stages. 23. Didn't do him much good, though, since he didn't put it in the show in either of his other two Cup attempts at the end of the year. Why Roush thought running 7 cars at Homestead would work out, I'm not sure, even if one of the cars (Ragan's, I think) wasn't coming off of one of their haulers...and sure enough all seven of em were rather lacking in single-car speed and the two extra cars DNQ'd. 26.
