Sure, Riggs was loose, but Harvick didn't even try to get off his rear bumper. Oh well, if what Bob Dillner said is true, you got your ass knocked down in the infield after the race by the #10 crew. It's interesting how Smoke has decided to stop being psycho and win races after he's already DNQ'd for the Chase. 4. Thanks for all of the memories and for being an overall class act and model for drivers to follow. Long live the Iceman! 5. He obviously didn't care too much about the patience factor and drove through Riggs instead of passing him like you are normally suppose to. They blew the whole pushing incident out of proportion, what the hell do you think is going to happen when a huge guy pushes a skinny 150 lb man? 6. Fitz posted: 11.07.2006 - 5:57 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) So T-stew wins his 3rd race since he didn't qualify for the "Chase". Now let's say that the "Chase" does not exist today. If this were so, then Smoke would be leading the points standings right now. Thus, ladies and gentlemen, my theory here is that Stewart is possibly illustrating a point that the "Chase" shouldn't have been implemented in the first place; Smoke could be leading the standings right now but instead it's J-Johnson leading it, courtesy of the "Chase". Therefore, I believe T-stew is letting his winning actions speak for themselves and is now leading us, including me, to question whether the "Chase" was fair and worth it and should have been implemented in the first place. 7. Now I dont wanna start controversy again like at the darlington comment post earlier this year...but Junior was the real "WINNER"(notice the quotation marks...means he didnt win) He battled the Flu all race, hit the wall while in 2nd place...snaked through a few wrecks...and finished 6th with a tire going down at the line.is there anything he can't do? Also even though Jr is in 3rd...he has to win at Phoenix next week and the rest of the field has to finish poorly if he has a chance to win the championship...why you ask?Why would Dalejrfan15 say such a thing?Well look at his homestead finishes... In the 6 races at Homestead that he has raced in he has gotten these stats:No top5's or tens, only led 46 laps ever at the track, made a little less than 500k,average start of 20.8 and a finish of 19.2.he may have finished all 6 of them, but only 3 on the lead lap...he did better at the track before it was banked...a 12th place start in200 and 13th place finish,in 01 a 17th place start and a 15th place finish,in 02 a strong 2nd place start, but a disapointing 21st place finish.then in 03 they added banking...that race he started 38th and finished 24th.Then in 04 he started 16th and finished 23rd.Then last year he started 40th and finished 19th.So thats why i say what I said. By the way, what happened to petty?he was 8th on the final restart...he fell to 11th in 2 laps...still hes gettin better every race...nice job Petty. And one more thing...We'll miss you Terry! 8. Don Hintz posted: 11.07.2006 - 3:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Fitz, Good analysis, but not quite accurate. Based on full season statistics, Kenseth still leads the points by 35 points over Johnson, and Tony sits a mere 387 points behind in 4th, yet, only 6 points out of 3rd place. "If" there was a chase implemented one season prior, if I remember correctly, Johnson would have had the championship that year. The fact that the last race of 2003 Kenseth blew up, finished dead last, yet still won the championship is only a testament to his strong "consistent" season that he had. 2004 would have yielded Gordon his fifth championship. 2005 would have been the same, Tony was stout last year. As for the 10 Chase races this season, yes, Tony has the most points by 65 over Carl Edwards. Then it's Johnson, Kenseth, Jr., Hamlin, Harvick, Gordon Burton and 10th is Casey Mears. The argument could be made that the Chase is seriously flawed, which in my opinion is. If you believe the "conspiracy" folks that say the Chase was implemented because of Kenseth's 2003 season, with only one win well, then what about other season champs with only 1 victory? Clearly, NASCAR wanted to create more "excitement" by implementing the Chase format. From a viewer standpoint, it creates a little more incentive for me to have the TV on, even though I tape the races. But from an "excitement" standpoint, this Sunday's race was one of the most boring races. Even the "made up" and "implied" excitement that the TV mouths try to create didn't raise my level of excitement over this Texas race. My initial thought was, NASCAR caved and gave Texas a second race to provide this kind of race? Sorry, but when the most excitement comes AFTER the checkered flag and AFTER the network has changed coverage to CNBC to provide me with 48 minutes of football pre-game. Whoopee!?! And last week at Atlanta, after the race was over, I stepped away from the TV and came back about the time the idiots were chasing after Robbie Gordon. I thought my wife changed the channel over to cops or something, because I was hoping for post race interviews, and instead, they give air time to ROBBIE GORDON? Come on NBC, give NASCAR the tape footage and let them figure it out. Just because it's November and sweeps month, I don't think it helped the TV ratings for Atlanta. Bottom line as for the championship, clearly, the championship should come down to between Johnson and Kenseth. They have been the top of the field all season long. I think the championship should be based on many factors, I think the pole winner should be awarded points for the pole, I think that drivers should be able to earn bonus points based on laps led as well. Complete laps, and not leading laps under caution. Staying out to lead a lap under caution isn't what I mean. I also think championships should include average finish. That would stop the points racing. Average finish for drivers this season? Kenseth 9.8, Johnson 9.9. Third is Harvick, the Jr., Stewart, Hamlin, Burton, Martin, Gordon and Edwards. It still puts the two SEASON best drivers pretty clearly head to head. However, the Chase format still could let Jr., Harvick and Hamlin sneak out a Championship, much like 2004. But breaking the season down, Johnson was read hot the first 10 races. The he went into a tail spin. But, he has recovered and is now finishing strong. Kenseth has also been consistent. But like the Talladega finish, should Johnson lose the championship by potential points he lost due to being spun in that race, that's hard to swallow. But having Chase drivers race against non chase drivers doesn't cut it. I live near Indianapolis and though I'm not a Colts fan, they went 13-0 last year and once they "clinched" their home field advantage in the play offs, thy stunk. My point to that has been "every game matters". The drivers are fully aware that every point counts. Both Johnson and Gordon know that from 03 and 04. But the Chase is flawed. And now the talk that is changes to the format again for next year? What's creating the most interest in the last two races for me, is seeing it come down to Johnson and Kenseth. Johnson has had his string of bad luck, both pre-Chase and during the Chase. Kenseth is having one of those seasons where he can hardly buy any bad luck. But, there is still two races left. Three years ago, he blew up in Miami and still won the championship. Last year he worked his way into the championship, yet fell short. Johnson has had a "dream season" yet could still come up short. I really hope it doesn't come down to an incident like Sunday where Harvick, or someone else determines the finish of the race and the outcome of the championship. My hope is to see it settled by racingà, on the track, not off pit road. 9. Terry Labonte retires from motorsports as one of the most consistent and one of the classiest champions. My hat is off to you, Terry. :+: Tony Stewart wins back-to-back Cup races for the 6th time. In November 1999 he won at Phoenix and Homestead, becoming the first rookie to win consecutive races. In 2000 he won at Dover and Michigan in June and at Dover and Martinsville in September. And in the summer of 2005 he won at Infineon and Daytona and then at Indy and the Glen. 13. "And Jr didn't get the 6-7 wins he so strongly talked about before the season started." Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards didn't win 6 or 7 races either. At least Junior can win 6 races in a season (2004) and win during every full season he's competed in, as opposed to Edwards winning 4 races in 2005 and 0 races in 2006.
