Gordon opted out of pitting with the leaders with 22 laps to go, putting him in the lead and to Victory Lane. HMS has won all 5 of the Car of Tomorrow races so far, and 8 of the 11 races this season. 2. James W. Kevin Harvick, who spent a majority of the day two laps down running in 23rd - 30th, passed Gordon on a restart to go one lap down (Gordon was kind enough to let him go), got a caution, and made up two laps with less than 22 to go in one caution to fight his way back to 17th. Gordon was basically spewing water out of the car the entire 50 laps to go when the race was under caution. Blaney has more crappy luck when he might have finished in the top twenty. Clint Bowyer got his first pole in Cup racing. And hopefully many more with even more wins! ;) And last, but most certainly not least, happy Mother's Day NASCAR style. A Mother's Day race that was supposed to take place the Saturday night before, only to get rained out and postponed for the second straight week. I guess we're not supposed to race at night anymore! 5. hyltonfan58 posted: 05.14.2007 - 4:59 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I still have more points than Michael Waltrip. Pathetic. 6. It is nice to have the old Jeff Gordon back again. The drive for five is on! 7. daniel posted: 05.14.2007 - 12:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) gordon was faster than anyone 8. Also, Kenny Wallace and the 78 team has an outstanding qualifying run. I do hope they get voted into the All Star. They deserve it. 9. Okay so I did comment on the race but thata all.) and with that said I wish Jr good luck with Hendrick/Joe Gibbs/Richard Childress/Ginn. You are making the best decision of your life. 10. Brock posted: 05.15.2007 - 3:44 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Simply incredible. Besides being amazing that Gordon himself won with such an overheating car, I'd also view the victory as a nice tribute to the legacy Hendrick's engine builder Randy Dorton left behind after his untimely death. For all the Hendrick dominance with the COT and Hamlin leading for so long, there was still great parity in this race when it came to lap leaders. Seven of the top-10 finishers led 16 or more laps during the race. 13. Hamlin wthout a doubt had the fastest car for 75% of the race, including the final stretch to the finish. 4 more laps and he'd of passed Gordon and would've made it look easy. 16. You're perhaps the biggest moron that I've ever had the inconvenience(that's a big word, sorry) of "meeting". If you honestly think that Brian France is out to get a driver (and especially by running the COT, as if he knew that Greg ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH to figure out the COT  !!!!) then you are just plain stupid. 18. biffle16 posted: 05.25.2007 - 5:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Aren't you funny. This race was an absolute gauntlet in the final stages, more so than a typical Darlington race. It was amazing seeing Jeff Gordon cruise with an overheating car while so many were dropping like flies around him. 25. Evan posted: 04.10.2014 - 7:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Shoot my mother actually thought that Gordon would not make it and I even thought he ran out of water at one point, but given the trained pro he is, Jeff handled everything like the master he is. They only had to run a short distance in lap count to get to the line. 26. huckhound14 posted: 04.16.2014 - 9:02 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Cingular's last race on the #31 car. The high profile company, and highly touted sponsorship soured as the economy did. By fall the Fed's had shut them down. Citigroup aquired the remaining assets. 28. RaceFanX posted: 01.30.2016 - 9:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dodge Avenger 500 is accurate, the Southern 500 just had a title sponsor this year. As this was a CoT race Ryan Newman's fourth was the best finish for a Dodge Avenger in the Dodge Avenger 500. Dodge's Avenger branding for its NASCAR efforts would be short-lived, the CoTs used it in 2007 but reverted back to Charger branding (matching 2007's regular cars) in 2008. 31. AJ Allmendinger slammed the wall then Kyle Busch in the #5 hit him from behind on the rebound. 32. I was curious as to why Dale Jr. had only 42 points despite finishing 8th. Nothing was posted in the comments, so I went to Wiki and found this. "However, because of illegal bolts supporting the wing that was discovered in a pre-race inspection, Earnhardt was docked 100 driver points, the team lost 100 owner points and slapped with a $100,000 (US) fine and crew chief Tony Eury, Sr. was suspended until July 4. Because of the penalties, McMurray was elevated to the final Chase position as a result." 33.
