Poor Jamie Mac ran at the front the entire day only to come up short. Richard Childress has gotta smiling ear to ear, (is that the first time since the 97' Daytona 500 where a team finished back to back to back?). Also poor Robby Gordon another good run at a road course goes to pot. And were half-way thru the slopiest coverage of the season 2. Juan Pablo did a great job 'saving fuel' and winning this race. I can't help but think Parrot (Juan's crew chief) pulled a Matt Borland and said they couldn't make it when they really could just to throw the 29 off. It worked. Random thoughts... Surprising 5th place finish there for Greg Biffle, who ran a smart race all day and comes home with a top five. It would have been awesome to see RCR get a 1-2-3 finish for the first time ever, but 2-3-4 is pretty damn good. Also, this weekend was the weekend that Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson had to sit out qualifying and practice on Friday due to failing inspection. That COT template is serous business to NASCAR. They started 41st and 42nd on Sunday and ended up 7th and 17th, respectively. And Kyle Petty, who was an in-race reporter, started his race by praying on the radio only to get slammed by Matt Kenseth in turn 11 on lap one, and then slip up and say the F word within five minutes. I thought TNT had a delay, but apparently they don't. That shouldn't be Kyle's fault because TNT had the audio beforehand and still decided to air it. He's a racer, and racers don't always the cleanest mouth. And that move wasn't very Kenseth like, either, who went on to a dismal 34th place finish after spinning out again later on in the race. Second week a row Kenseth wouldn't finish very well. 3. Very Nice posted: 06.25.2007 - 4:34 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Very Nice! Very Nice! 4. The 1st ever Latino driver to win a nascar top circuit race, and the 2nd ever non-white driver to win a nascar top circuit race since Wendell Scott, a black driver, did it back in 1963! This is testament that it's the sign of the times. Mr. Montoya has given me hope today...and beyond. Hopefully, one day there would be a 3rd ever non-white driver, and specifically the first ever driver of Filipino descent to win a top-circuit nascar race event. That would be me, one day. McMurray's not the first polesitter to finish out of the top 35, not by any means. Jeff Burton finished 42nd after winning the pole at Michigan last year. Ryan Newman finished 39th after winning the pole at NHIS last year, and 39th after winning the pole at Charlotte last year. I'm sure there are many more. 10. It stinks the finish won't show it, but it must be a great confidence booster for him and the entire 26 team. That's an awesome win for Juan Pablo Montoya; with his aggressive driving style I'd never expect he'd win a fuel-mileage race! I was there on Sunday and it was really neat. Someone in the infield even let three balloons in the colors of the Colombian flag fly when Montoya took the lead! The NASCARologist from NC posted: 06.28.2007 - 5:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) First of all, as a rebuttal to Brian W E I don't know understand what you mean about Nascar being like the WWF because the WWF is the World Wide Fund for Nature (formerly World Wildlife Fund) if you mean WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) it still doesn't make sense because the COT actually does even the competition. Look at the winners (other than Hendrick who just got off to a good start in the car) Truex and Montoya both first time winners both talented drivers io normally underdeveloped teams, I'd say the golden goose of opportunity is opened up and don't be surprised if there are more surprise winners like Dave Blaney or Tony Raines later this year, both drivers are extremely talented and have been impressive as of late. Also I have another issue with your comment you falsely stated that Waltrip was fined 150 points when in fact he was penalized only 100 points which is a stiff penalty and is a lot more punishing than the measly 25 points they used to take. However, even that hurt just ask Jamie McMurray. In 2004 he missed the chase by 6 points after receiving a 25 point penalty earlier in the year. Without the penalty he would have finished third in the standings based on his finishes in the 10 race Chase for the Cup. A 100 point penalty can definitely blow the championship for Gordon or Johnson and will stop their momentum dead. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is already going to steal the Hendrick spotlight and cause problems for the "New York Yankees" of Nascar. He has to learn to co-exist with the two most overblown egos in Nascar while he has the third most overblown ego!! Thank you, NASCARologist from NC 28. I agree with Steve's comment that Montoya is a great driver. In order ro agree that he is one of the greatest Montoya needs to win a Nextel Cup Championship or at least pull the Tony Stewart feat and run 1100 mile in a 12 hour period with the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600. By the way Stewart got a sixth at Indy and a third a Lowes Motor Speedway which is an average of finish of 4.5 in that short of time no other driver in racing can make a claim to a feat like that. Also Stewart has won more different series titles than any driver in the history of racing IROC Championship 2006 Nascar Winston Cup 2002/Nextel Cup 2005 IRL Champion 1997 USAC Triple Crown Winner 1995 (The Silver Crown, Sprint Car and Midget Series Championships make up the Triple Crown only two men have ever won the tiple crown Stewart and his Joe Gibbs teammate J.J. NASCARologist, Stewart's the only person to do that (although John Andretti and Robby Gordon tried). That means the other 19 in your list of 20 did not. Nobody's going to get the chance now because they moved the Indy 500 start time backward so the logistics of it would be impossible. I still think in terms of overall racing, Montoya is more versatile than Stewart. Stewart's triple crown is impressive (and more impressive than his IRL championship, in my opinion) but even J.J. Yeley has that and he hasn't distinguished himself in Cup or IRL (yet) despite racing in both series. You mentioned 7 titles that Stewart has: 2 Cup, 1 IRL, 3 USAC, and 1 IROC. If you're counting IROC titles, Earnhardt's ahead with the 7 Cup titles and 4 IROC titles. I'm not sure how significant Stewart winning an IROC title is as he is a Cup driver driving a stock car and far better than any of the other Cup drivers entered. It should be expected. Also, the IRL when Stewart raced in it did not have the biggest talent pool in world history. Luyendyk won 3 races in CART, Goodyear 2, Guerrero 2, Cheever, Lazier, and Sharp none. And except for Sharp and arguably Lazier, they were all CART veterans. Stewart and Kenny Brack were 2 excellent finds in the IRL. Brack became a star in CART and Stewart certainly could have been, but that still doesn't make Stewart's IRL title especially meaningful. The Cup titles are his most meaningful accomplishments. And I find it strange you have Tony Kanaan on your all-time great list without Montoya. Although Kanaan is one of the best IRL drivers today, he was nowhere near as dominant in CART or in IRL as Montoya... I also find it odd you included no F1 drivers... 34. That's why Menard had so many DNQs at first. Halfway through the season, Ginn Racing shut down/merged into DEI, and Menard ended up attaining a top 35 point position through that process, thus guaranteeing him a starting spot from that point on. Despite the rocky start, Menard went on to have a solid career. Sure, he's far from the greatest driver ever, but how many people can say they raced at NASCAR's top level for more than a decade, won a top-level race at Indianapolis, and earned a top 15 finish racing against stock car's best drivers 158 times?
