Scheduled to start at 10AM EST and started under a green/yellow before going red again becuase of Fog. The race finally got going at lap 13 (correct me if im wrong) Kurt Busch clearly with the best car. GREAT run for Dave Blaney, Brain Vickers and Bobby Labonte 3. Except Junior's hopes of making the chase are slipping away :( I'm still confident he will make it though. He just needs to be flawless next week while Busch or Truex have to run into trouble. 4. 48fan posted: 08.22.2007 - 12:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 2nd... July 4th, 1978 5. It's a great win for Kurt. 7. Douche Bagolow posted: 08.22.2007 - 11:43 pm Rate this comment: (1) (3) Dissapointing run for Greg. :( Jeff Gordon, karma's a bitch. Way to go Matt!!! 8. I had the live leaderboard from NASCAR.com on and for about 1/8 of the race he had the fastest lap each lap. The rest were beetween Busch, Kenseth, Gordon, Ragan, and Truex 9. I knew that something was going to happen when they went to commercial so late in the race. 10. Fitz posted: 08.24.2007 - 3:13 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dang! Kurt's on a roll, winning 2 of the past 3 races. That momentum will carry him to a possible victory this come Sat 8/25/07 at (guess what) Bristol, the very same track where he usually dominates at. Lookin forward to it... 11. JDF posted: 03.16.2008 - 10:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) BLAH!,BUSCH WON, BOO! 12. As such many Chevrolet teams had their cars decaled up as 57 Chevys instead of Monte Carlos for this race, complete with grill, headlight and tailfin decals as part of the promotion. A few Chevy teams played the retro angle up more. J.J. Yeley's #18 entry had retro-1950s Interstate Batteries logos while Martin Truex Jr.'s Bass Pro Shops #1 and Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Budweiser #8 had a painted white roof to simulate a vinyl top. Sterling Marlin's Waste Management #14 team had also been scheduled to be featured as part of the 57 Chevy promotion but with the team's closure after the Brickyard 400 it did not run. 15. JSPorts posted: 03.31.2020 - 12:05 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I always felt bad for Joe & Sterling in '07. Their last years in competitive cars, and it gets cut short halfway through the season when the team gets sold. I wish DEI would've fielded those cars, at least for the remainder of the season. However, that would've been a massive stable. 1, 01, 8, 13, 14 & 15. Would've exceeded the 4-car limit, but I imagine NASCAR would've made an exception since the team got bought halfway through the year. 26. RaceFanX posted: 03.31.2020 - 12:49 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @25 On the plus side the four-car limit didn't come along until the start of the 2010 season. Technically you could field as many cars as you wanted, Roush ran five at the time, but admittedly financial realities would have made it almost impossible in that case (the #13 team was on the verge of shutting down anyway with sponsor woes). 27. Corey posted: 03.31.2020 - 12:53 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @26 I thought the 4 car limit came in earlier, but Roush was allowed to have five due to pre-existing sponsor contracts. 28. LarsonDixonLine posted: 03.31.2020 - 12:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) @25 At this point the 4-car limit wasn't in place (Roush for example had 5), that rule didn't come into effect until 2010. It is a shame though that they shut down those teams though, but since DEI was struggling around this time too I don't know if they could've handled a 5-car operation 29. E-Rick95 posted: 03.31.2020 - 12:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) @25, the car car rule didnt come into effect until 2010 which is why the 26 team closed. They probably could've ran 5 cars during 2007 30. JSPorts posted: 03.31.2020 - 3:04 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) The 4-car rule actually came into place in 2006. Roush was allowed to run 5 cars because of preexisting sponsorship contracts. Those ran out after 2009, which is why they went down to 4 cars. 31. Canadianfan posted: 03.31.2020 - 3:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @30 Not only that Jack asked if he could keep going with 5 cars after that and well NASCAR said no. 32. rm posted: 05.07.2020 - 5:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It's tough that Nemechek & Marlin were the ones left on the outside looking in regarding the DEI-Ginn deal, but they were also arguably the two weakest links, the two most underperforming drivers out of the bunch. The other candidate would be Paul Menard...but if you've got three drivers that are all fighting to finish 27th every week, and you can only keep one, you're going to keep the guy with the sure sponsorship - which would have been Menard. Anyway, speaking of Menard, I don't think he was running at the finish of this race. On lap 168, while on the lead lap, he was shown on the track trailing some smoke. A couple laps later, they cut to a shot of Menard's crew on pit road, looking under the hood before pushing the #15 back to the garage after Menard had managed to limp back to pit road. The ESPN booth theorized that he had fallen victim to the same engine issues that had befallen teammate Mark Martin earlier in the race. 33. possum posted: 05.07.2020 - 8:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @32 - "running" just means the team hadn't formally retired from the race. At one time it was fairly common for a team to sit in the garage for hours without actually telling NASCAR they were done for the day. 34. rm posted: 05.07.2020 - 9:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Well aware of that phenomenon, but since this scenario happened in 2007 and not 1967, played out on live TV no less, that's why it piqued my interest. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
