They should NOT have restarted the race after the rain. Too many changes on how many laps they would run, and WAY too many cars torn up. 4. b4il3y posted: 10.01.2007 - 5:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) If I was Clint...id be pissed. Jim Hunter (NASCAR's Public Relations person) was on the Speed post race show and he said as long as he is running at a CAUTIOUS pace, then it didn't matter.I guess during the week the Chevy drivers are wearing skirts and dresses as are the Chevy fans. Chill Out. P.S. At Canada Robby couldn't run at a CAUTIOUS pace because he was backwards. If Robby had done what he was supposed to do go to the back then maybe NASCAR would of watched the replay before they wen't back to green and called him up and change the call. But because he wasn't doing what he was told then they felt like why waste the time. 13. Dodge posted: 10.01.2007 - 6:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also it was mentioned somewhere that Clint slowed down and Johnson passed him so then Johnson would of been penalized for passing under yellow. 14. Anonymous posted: 10.02.2007 - 12:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "I guess during the week the Chevy drivers are wearing skirts and dresses as are the Chevy fans" Funny. The Rou$h and Mopar fanatics always scream the loudest about favoritism. There's NO denying that. The rule has always been explained that a car must maintain PACE speed during caution. The Robby deal at Canada, he was spun after the yellow and was told to go to the back. So if Bowyer spun Biffle he would of won? There is also a rule about a G/W/C finish that never happened. The issue here isn't about who won, it's about NA$CAR making up their rules as they go. Jim Hunter also said this week that a driver isn't penalized for cursing as long as it didn't happen in an interview, referring to Tony Stewart's F bomb. Tell that to Mike Wallace. 15. Anonymous posted: 10.02.2007 - 12:48 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Amazing run for the 48 after the caution came out during his pit stop, and placed him a lap down. I don't know if the 48 would of won with the GWC but it would of been a hell of race if they had finished that way. But no biggy, the race was overall awesome to watch. 16. Zac posted: 10.02.2007 - 1:18 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Congrats to Clint Bowy-- wait, Greg Biffle won. Never mind. ;) But in all seriousness, good job to the Chasers Clint Bowyer, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, and Jeff Gordon for not becoming victims of this crazy race. Especially Jimmie Johnson, who qualified on pole for the race but wrecked the car in the final practice. He started in the back and made his way to the front. Good run for Sorenson (7th). Also, awesome job to GEM this weekend. Sadler (8th) and Kahne (9th) finished inside the top ten for the first time since, what, the 500 in February? And if you include Scott Riggs, who actually started on pole due to Johnson's problems, all three GEM cars finished in the top 15 for a nice shot in the arm. Again, another sneaky finish for Casey Mears. He's really getting good at sneaking out these top tens and fives without getting any word from the announcers about it. 17. The Real Thomas posted: 10.02.2007 - 9:12 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) Okay, let's set some things straight. I was surprised to see how this turned out since NA$CAR had an awesome oppurtunity to give the win to Chevrolet again. (Look up the records guys. I'm dead serious about this and the Chevy fans can laugh all they want. Whether or not someone thinks that they do favor Chevrolet or Hendrick (or Childress, like in the 2007 Diabolical 500) is actually not the issue in this case. The point is that they do not and have never favored Jack Roush, Biffle, or Ford by ANY means whatsoever.) That said, I do not know where anyone came up with the idea that one had to maintain "pace car" speed under yellow. As unclear as the rule sounds, here it is: you only have to maintain "reasonable" speed under caution in the eyes of NA$CAR. It's purely a judgement call, which is dumb, but that's the way this rule has been as long as I can remember. It's not something they came up with off the cuff, despite how much NA$CAR likes to. Biffle maintained a "reasonable" speed. Johnson and Bowyer did not since they passed him under yellow and were literally and laughably racing to the line behind the pace car. The incident in Canada (which, granted, was an absolute joke) was this: Robby Gordon was spun backwards on the track just as the yellow was coming out. Therefore, he was not maintaining a reasonable speed until he was headed in the right direction and at speed. Thus, he should have slotted in wherever he was when he had the car back going again. If you want an incident similar to the ending of the Kansas race, watch the last few laps of the 1999 Pepsi 400 at Daytona. Nobody passed the leader under caution at the end of that race, so why the hell did Johnson and Bowyer think they could pa 18. Dodge posted: 10.02.2007 - 12:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) About the GWC no call. So what, you want them to run when it was so dark that NASCAR could not see the pavement to make sure there was no debris on it. And risk the drivers life even more. If something happened then you would be whining saying that they shouldn't of done that. No lets end the talk and focus on Talladega. 19. Dodge posted: 10.02.2007 - 12:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Tony Stewart's F bomb. Well, NASCAR already fined and took points away once. NASCAR loves the money that Home Depot pays to be the official Home Improvement company of NASCAR so they don't want to risk losing it so they do what they have to to keep it. I also believe that Tony should of been fined butwe don't make the call. When that whole swear crap was mentioned I missed it so I did not see the incident but I did read about it and thought it wasn't right. 20. Anonymous posted: 10.02.2007 - 9:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) NA$CAR always sees debris. Even when no one else does (cough, cough). What exactly is a reasonable speed? Biffle was passed by at least four cars. Bowyer slowed also and Johnson passed him momentarily because he realized that neither Bowyer or Biffle were at pace speed. As much as I don't like J.J., by the rules (which have changed since 1999) I don't see where he did anything wrong. 21. I don't know if you referred to me as one of the CHEVY fans, I actually like none of the manufacturers; more of a Nissan fan. But getting to my point, you are the one that needs to stop whining and trying to bestow your opinion on what everyone here says. This race blew and you know it. Yeah, maybe I could watch something else, but there is nothing else to watch and NASCAR races make me laugh. I don't even watch the race most of the time, just highlights or videos. I like seeing how the tv coverage as well as the actual rates decrease so much in quality and expectations. It's sad, something big as NA$CAR can't still get their act together. This sport is falling apart, and eventually doomed. Ratings are going down, and many old fans already stopped caring and have moved onto other things. SO thanks Brian France, thanks NA$CAR, and thanks to all the other fools in the sport that have taken what used to be a great sport of speed into a great sport of blunder. 24. Yeah, in the next year Toyota almost wins a championship but KBusch screws it up I don't exactly remember the Hamlin crash, I kinda have a short-term memory... Nice job by the GEM guys after struggling throughout the season...it's too bad they're struggling to finish the season because Gillett is losing money... "Great" finishes for Waltrip, Reutimann, Schraeder, and Mayfield, probably their best of the season, although Reutimann is a decent driver now And it wasn't reallt a crashfest, the Smoke wreck was pretty bad 33. Cooper posted: 06.02.2011 - 6:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Just watched this race for the first time. NASCAR rule is: A car must maintain pace car speed under yellow conditions. If they fail to do so, any positions lossed while not at a maintained speed are not recoverable. --Biffle slowed down on the white flag lap, going below pace car speed. Gilliland passes Biffle, Bowyer passes Biffle, Johnson passes Biffle, Casey Mears passes Biffle. That is not maintaining cautious pace. If what Biffle did was legal, than technically under a yellow, the leader could crawl around the racetrack, grab a hot dog and beer and then go back to the lead. BS. Actual Results 1. Clint Bowyer 2. Jimmie Johnson 3. Casey Mears 4. Greg Biffle How NASCAR screwed this up, is beyond me. This rule has been in place for decades. 34. Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick were 1st and 3rd respectively, while the rest of the Chase contenders had pitted and were around 15th-25th. But of course that's only a thought 11 years later, and instead NASCAR restarted the race and made it a clusterf**k 41. Mr.Victory posted: 06.17.2018 - 10:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Clint should've been the winner, because Biffle slowed down before the checkered flag flew. Like Johnson said in the interview: "If you don't maintain pace car speed, you lose your position on the track.". But, NASCAR goes backwards on what they say, and says Allmendinger loses 2 positions at Watkins Glen in 2016 for not maintaining pace car speed. It just doesn't make sense. 47. rm posted: 02.01.2020 - 2:48 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Surprised that nobody mentioned Jeff Burton trying to pull a fast one on the tower by giving his right front fender a tug while adjusting the car cover during the red flag for rain. Burton had some slight damage from contact in the opening laps. The NASCAR officials were not fooled as a TV camera caught the whole thing on film. Just like Sterling Marlin before him, Burton was dropped to the tail end of the field for the restart. Burton attempted to protest, claiming he was just trying to put the car cover on properly and that there was nothing nefarious at play. The video evidence suggested otherwise and his already-miserable weekend never got any better as he finished 36th. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
