Too bad for Hamlin, Mears, Jr., Sorenson, Hornish, and Mayfield for being out of it Sunday Night. Hopefully NASCAR learned their lesson on this one, and hopefully California does something about the weepers. I know you're gonna have them, but when they became a safety issue, it's time to look closer at them. 2. Zac posted: 02.25.2008 - 6:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I never, ever want to hearthe words, "weepers", "rain", or "wet track", used in NASCAR racing ever again at California. Kyle Busch almost became the first driver to ever lead the points in all three series, but after finishing 2nd to Tony Stewart once again, he's only two for three. (Trucks and Cup) Rick Hendrick made a bad move getting rid of him, IMO. The racing was borderline comatose, but that's the norm for Cali. And what the **** is with the name? I know it's for sponsorship money, but christ that's such a bad name for a track. Off to Vegas we go. :) 3. Not just cause Jr wrecked, but cause it could have cost two lives (Mears and Hornish) I know thats extreme but Mears was kind of hopeless upside down like that. If that fire got worse it could have trapped him. Once again, thats an etxtreme but always expect the unexpected. Possibly the most confusing races ever. I lost track after 12 midnight. Flips 4 Carl! ^_^ 4. Meanwhile the 2007 Dodge Avenger 400 at Darlington also had a paid attendance of 70,000. That represents 111% of capacity -Darlington has an "official" capacity of 63,000. 7. After the wreck that eliminated Hornish and Busch, no other drivers retired from the event Carl Edwards wins after having his motorcoach wrecked in route to the track. Edwards spent the weekend living in one that was originally intented for the band ZZ Top, who did a decent job as the pre-race entertainment. 8. Woodbridge posted: 02.26.2008 - 1:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Interesting wreck with Mears for sure. Travis Kvapil was in the Top 10 for a good bit of the race until a problem with his nose put him back several laps. Robby Gordon would be in the top 12 in standings if not for his unfair 100-point penalty. 9. DaleSrFanForever posted: 02.26.2008 - 2:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Why the HELL was NASCAR even THINKING about restarting the race at 2am east coast time on a Sunday night?? That just shows you that the whole "core fans" thing was a bunch of crap. I mean I knew it was, but I thought it would take more than 2 weeks for NASCAR officials to totally crap on us (or at least have the intentions to). NASCAR just need to face it. California Speedway (or whatever the crap its called now) is a dud. And its located in a region with minimal interest in NASCAR. Yes there are true fans out there, but not enough to sustain that kind of track. Anyone remember Ontario Speedway? (I don't, but I've heard stories about it) Same deal. Give the February date back to Rockingham and, most importantly, GIVE LABOR DAY WEEKEND BACK TO DARLINGTON RACEWAY!!!!!! 10. Rusty posted: 02.26.2008 - 4:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I am so mad, a1 11 pm Sunday evening FOX promised the return of the race an hour later and kept doing it until 2 am when they finally told us to go to bed and wait until 1 pm eastern on Monday, they kept me up all night for nothing, screw you NASCAR you've screwed up a lot of crap but this may be the dumbest thing they've ever done. Anyways, congrats to Carl Edwards on the win, if the race was ran like scheduled on sunday Jeff Gordon probably would've won, so it's not all bad they ran the last 170 laps or so on Monday. :) 11. Dodge posted: 02.26.2008 - 8:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) No NASCAR did not make a mistake to start it on sunday. If you recall NASCAR radioed all the drivers and asked them if they thought the track was ready and they ALL said YES. Just because a couple of drivers didn't have the ability of missing the slick spot when all of the other drivers were able to avoid it. By the way, a lot of you would of been complaining IF NASCAR didn't make an attempt to start the race. 14. Don DeWeese posted: 02.26.2008 - 9:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Can anyone explain why Nascar let Dale Earnhard Hendrick Jr. repair his car under red flag conditions? I guess they remembered that they let Jeff Gordon Hendricks pull out a back-up car for a non-points race at Charlotte because he wrecked in the first couple laps and run it in that race. In a non-points event that was a little easier to swallow, but in a points event such as this? It does not matter that he finished 40th place 40-something laps down,he earned a few extra points. If anyone remembers what the difference less than 10 points can do to a championship season? Ask Jimmie Johnson Hendricks, 2004 less that 10 points he lost to Kurt Busch. It's the fact that the rule book says that no work can be done under red-flag conditions. And people say that Nascar does not show favoritism to Hendricks/Earnhardts/Chevrolets? Oh well the true Horsepower prevailed, Edwards passed the Hendricks cars and put Jack Roush in victory lane and the only thing that could have stopped him was if Nascar would have thrown a yellow to allow Hendricks to catch back up to him? How many times has Nascar done that for Hendricks? 15. Anonymous posted: 02.27.2008 - 12:05 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I've heard that the California Speedway people are considering restrictor plates. I think it's a stupid idea. Anybody else? I agree; Robby's penalty is unfair. Great start to the year for Brian Vickers and David Reutimann. And can you believe that not ONE Yates Racing entry has solid sponsorship for the season? 16. Anonymous posted: 02.27.2008 - 12:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Great race by Hendrick but of course Rousch always wins the second race of the year whether its California or Rockingham. They should replace this race with Rockingham and never run a race at California in February again because of the rain. It was really nasty all weekend and they should have allowed those cars to have their back up cars. 17. Spen posted: 02.27.2008 - 5:07 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Great to see Jarrett get a few lead laps, especially since he got his first lead laps in this state (at Riverside). And how the frell is Vickers in the Chase? 18. Nuck Chorris posted: 02.27.2008 - 6:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Vickers making the Chase this year? Gimme a dollar if he does, because Travis Kvapil or David Ragan has a better chance of doing that (Kvapil & Ragan has a spot in each race, Vickers will inevitably DNQ at least once in these first 5 races). And by the way Robby's penalty is unfair 19. DaleSrFanForever posted: 02.28.2008 - 1:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The restrictor plate idea is a bad one. First of all I don't think its current layout, even if the banks are raised to 36 degrees, would suit that kind of racing. Daytona and Talladega are at least 2.5 miles long with a pronounced trioval shape. California is 2 miles with a lazy D shape. I don't think it would work. Michael Waltrip needs to worry about making himself a better driver instead of trying to get all the tracks to be less challenging. Of course he wants a track where all you do is keep the gas down, that is the only situation in which he can win. The more difficult the track, the more out to lunch he is. He has always looked totally lost at tracks like Martinsville, Rockingham, Bristol, and Darlington (that one good run in the early 90s notwithstanding). He is a crap driver and needs to get out of the way and quit stealing sponsor money. 20. Spen posted: 02.29.2008 - 2:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I didn't say that Vickers will make the chase this year (I'd be beyond shocked if he does). All I said was that if Nascar were to start the chase at this exact moment, Vickers would be in it. 21. The Real Thomas posted: 03.01.2008 - 4:59 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dodge, your right. It wasn't NASCAR's fault at all that they started the race on Sunday because no one objected after they asked the drivers if the track was ready. It was NASCAR's fault for stringing us along until 1am (central time) before calling the race. I applaud the fact that they at least tried to start and finish the race on the scheduled day, however, there is also a proper time to give it up and come back Monday and they simply waited too late to do that. As far as Hendrick and Chevrolet, NASCAR does definitely favor them. However, in all fairness, I do not think that they actually allowed Junior's team to work on the car under the red flag. They did make tape patches, gather tools, and do other work, but as far as I know, they did not touch the car, which is the only thing you can't do under a red flag condition. You can look at the car and prepare to fix it all you want under the red flag as long as you don't touch the car. By the way, great job Carl! 22. The Real Thomas posted: 03.01.2008 - 5:07 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I just realized that only 2 cars DNF'd, obviously Mears and Hornish. That has to be a recent record for fewest cars failing to finish in many races. Also, the whole Michael Waltrip "let's turn Fontana into a restrictor plate track" thing is genuinely amusing not only because of the fact that it's the only type of track he's successful on, but also because of how vocal he has been in the past few years in favor of changing everything to what NASCAR thinks is right. What's most memorable is his pro-let's forget Rockingham in favor of Fontana speeches that he would spew on "Tradin' Paint" against the reporters who usually openly disagreed with him. Thank you Andy Hillenburg for saving The Rock! 23. Dodge posted: 03.01.2008 - 11:44 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I see NASCAR's point, The Real Thomas. They were out west using WEST COAST'S time and they were thinking that if fans were that loyal it wouldn't matter what time they finished. But I also see your point. I live in the Northeast so it was 2 here when they called it. Also, you said about the 2 DNF that was the fewest in a while, I quick correction, New Hampshire had 0 DNF's. 24. samfan08 posted: 03.01.2008 - 12:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Michael Waltrip's plan is stupid, but I wouldn't mind seeing California reconfigure. I'm tired of watching races on basically the same track every week. Rebuild it into a short track, or something weird shaped like Darlington. 25. billchill posted: 03.03.2008 - 4:09 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) california speedway sucks 26. dennyfan11 posted: 03.11.2008 - 4:55 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) this race was mark martins 700 carrer race glad to see him get a top 20 finish 27. matthew posted: 03.22.2008 - 12:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) to bad for mears but I agree 100%with racefanx that he is the first na$car racer to flip a cot. 28.
