Almost but no cigar for Jr. All these tracks really need to figure somthing out about those inside openings as much as I love seeing Gordon wreck I didnt like him gettin rocked around. I also hope Tony will be ok...he looked like he got his bell rung. Great runs for Kvapil, Ragan. Oh and ever since they re-done Vegas the racing has been great. 2. Scary wreck for Gordon, I was panicking until they showed him moving, it was nearly a direct driver side shot to the inside wall! Scott Riggs was running in the top 10 for half the race, was en route to a beautiful finish before he popped a tire/spun out and went several laps down. At this point in the season, only Kasey Kahne has three top tens. Teams in the races 5-36 "Danger Zone" include the #77, the #7, the #45, the #40, and the #01. 3. Kyle Busch looked like he was about to dominate this race until handling issuses pushed him back to 11th. Tony Stewart blows a right-front at about 190 and pounds the turn three wall HARD, he came away with some pain in his about but seemed to be okay. Latter in the race, Kurt Busch explodes a tire in turn three and pancakes the wall in a similar fasion as Tony did, only kurt was uninjured The second half of the race was all about Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth. The two combined for 156 laps led and continually swapped the first position. It seemed like it would come doewn to a battle between Matt, Carl, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Jeff Gordon. With 5 to go and on a restart, Jr. spins his tires while in second place, Kenseth and Gordon split Jr. going into turn one. Coming off two, Gordons car pushes up into Kenseth causing them both to spin and Jeff's car PLOWS into the wall HARD, possibly the hardest wreck in Jeff's career. The final two laps belong to Carl and he wins his second race in a row. However, it is discovered in post race specs that the oil lid cover was off. In Daytona, this got a bunch of Nationwide teams penalized and gave some crew-cheifs an unexpected six week vacation. more to come. 4. Who would have thought that, three races in, only one Hendrick car would be in the top ten? 5. #26 Oreo Double Stuf Ford posted: 03.03.2008 - 4:23 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) WTG Carl! Also, WTG Greg for your 3rd place run and 6th place spot in the standings! 6. Shane posted: 03.03.2008 - 6:09 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) WOW, what a great race. The COT is sure putting on better shows than the car of yester-year. I also liked to see Gordon have misfortune, he's my most hated driver but when I saw him wreck I was genuinely concerned. Hardest hit I've seen in probably 5 to 10 years. Rivals Jimmie Johnson's Watkins Glen crash in the early 2000's. Strong showing for Scott Riggs [#66] before he got caught up in an incident. 7. Let's be thankful for all the safety innovations that have been made over the last few years. This was a pretty good race. I'm finding Carl Edwards is one of the toughest drivers to deal with in the closing laps. He spoiled what I was hoping would be a shoot-out between Kenseth and Junior. Good to see guys like David Ragan, Elliot Sadler and Casey Mears have a good run. Travis Kvapil was unsponsered and made the top 10! Good run for that team. Here's how the top 12 break down per owner: Roush 2, RCR 2, Evernham 2, Gibbs 2, Penske 2, DEI 1, Hendrick 1. No Jimmie Johnson or Jeff Gordon. Anyone who was concerned Hendrick and Roush were going to dominate this sport can put their fears to rest for now. 8. Vegas has been A LOT better since they re did it! The COT looks great! I've been impressed by the little organizations running well! Also a very good run for Ken Schrader, I know he ended up 21st but he was on the lead lap all day, and with that team, that is something to be proud of! I can't wait for HOTLanta! 9. most posted: 03.03.2008 - 10:24 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah, I was really worried about Gordon also, if anyone is going to total a car, I would want it to be a $$Hendrick$$ car but I don't want anyone hurt. Gordon has taken some hits in the past few years, I wonder when he will hang it up? Great to see the #28 in the top 10, I was looking for Riggs to be there but his time will come. It is looking like all the MWR cars could be in the top 35, which is amazing. I hate the rule but I surely don't want the same teams out of the races year after year, Teresa has enough money she can drag the #01 along if they fall out, 77 is likely out, 45 is out, 40 could get back in. It's still early but these guys need to get in if they are going to. I just hope the #15 falls out at some point, I think that is the only team I would love to see missing races! 10. Gotta give props though to Schrader, the Yates and Haas teams for their solid runs though. Awesome job guys! 13. samfan08 posted: 03.03.2008 - 4:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Nice win by Carl, and great runs for Ragan and Kvapil. Also a shoutout to Ken Schrader for running top 15 much of the day and finishing 21st, and to Scott Riggs for running top 10 most of the day. Too bad Hornish wrecked, that took away from this race a little for me. Hopefully he can get back in the top 35 over the next 2 weeks. 14. Dodge posted: 03.03.2008 - 10:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Good job for Kasey. The car didn't seem like it was right at the first half of the race and they got it right. Who would of thought that Kahne would be the only one to have 3 top tens in the first 3 races. Lets not forget that Kahne was sick enough to not run the Nationwide race. 15. Mike Skinner will attempt to put the #84 into the Top 35 for Allmendinger. 16. All three of those wrecks were nasty hits. Hopefully Tony can get 'em this week, I'll be there at AMS. 17. Anonymous posted: 03.05.2008 - 12:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The safer barrier needs to be all around the track, on the outside AND inside walls. Remember Jeff Fuller's crash in 2006 at Kentucky? Gordon is lucky that he didn't crash THAT way. This is a problem that needs to be eradicated. NA$CAR constantly preach safety, and this situation is contradicting what their saying. Great runs by Ragan and Kvapil, and who expected to see Sadler and Vickers in the top 15 in points? 18. The #83 team was obviously going to turn a corner this year with Toyota/Red Bull's improvements, and Sadler is usually fairly consistent early on in the season. 21. These guys risk their life for big $$$, so it's worth it. 24. User posted: 03.10.2008 - 6:45 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I wrote that before I found out Carl cheated. Look how the 48 performs when they DONT cheat. In the last 3 races Johnson either cheated (05 and 06) times or they fixed it (07) for him to win. 25. And then finally both times he fell outside the chase for good the race after that in Atlanta. 30.
