Great run by Brian Vickers who is currently 9th in points after 4 great races. Also the first top ten for Kevin Harvick at Atlanta since his rookie year in 2001. He's currently the best Chevrolet team in points. (3rd) 2. Freshgeek posted: 03.09.2008 - 10:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I can discribe this race in two words: Boring 3. Everyone who led pretty much ran away with it, not much racing for the lead. Hope that's not the case all the time with the new car. Nothing else notable about the race itself other than the first top 10 for owner Dietrich Mateschitz with Brian Vickers. Mike Skinner also made his second start in a row with two different teams: Bill Davis last week and Mateschitz this week. 4. Long green flag runs, tires that wear out quickly, only 13 cars on the lead lap, and driver skill making the difference. I hope the rest of the season is more of the same. Anyone know why Kyle Petty is still driving? He's been nothing more than a moving roadblock out there for about five years. I hope he falls out of the top 35, because it's a travesty for him to be stealing a spot from a more deserving driver. 7. Woodbridge posted: 03.10.2008 - 2:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Many drivers were upset with Goodyear's tire compounds for this race, the most notable being Tony Stewart, Junior, and Jeff Gordon. Great run by Matt Kenseth, he battled back from being two laps down, I believe. Elliott Sadler looks more like Elliott Sauter, and spins out THREE TIMES within a hundred laps!! 8. #26 Oreo Double Stuf Ford posted: 03.10.2008 - 5:21 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The beginning of the end for true American Cup Series racing. Adam | 03.10.08 - 12:13 am Adam, you sound like a jerk. Kyle Petty has more rights to be on the racetrack if he wants to and as long as sponsors still want him to promote their stuff. There are drivers like Regan Smith that have no business racing with the bigs boys because he will NEVER get a win because he is not all that talented. At least Petty has won in his career. 10. DaleSrFanForever posted: 03.10.2008 - 12:59 pm Rate this comment: (1) (3) Man what an awful race!!!! At Atlanta of all places which is normally a great race. Something has got to give. They can't keep having races like these. I don't know if its the tire, the car, or both. NASCAR needs to get to the bottom of it quick or else they will lose even more fans. I have been obsessed with NASCAR since I was 5 years old, and I no longer find myself getting pumped up for a race. If anything, I sort of dread it. NASCAR needs to make some important decisions quick. And, no, Darrell, I will not stand up and applaud Kyle Busch. I don't care what he can do in a race car, he is totally insufferable. He is a spoiled whiney brat who shows no class or gives us anything to respect. Why did he have to push DJ out of the way on the final lap with a 3 second lead?? Cause he is a piece of garbage, that is why. I am getting real sick of the Fox guys telling us who we should and shouldn't like. We will make that decision, quit insulting us. 11. Woodbridge posted: 03.10.2008 - 1:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Adam, unfortunately I think we'll be seeing more of Kyle Petty than needed this year. After the Bristol points cutoff, he could swap owner points with the #43. That would lock Petty into the first few races, at least, and Labonte can use his Champions' Provisional until he can get the car back into the Top 35. 12. I agree that Petty still has a right to be on the racetrack, and I like the guy, but he really needs to try to show a little more fire to keep himself from being a punchline. He's reminding me of the last few years of his father's career, just riding along and not really competing. I also agree that Regan Smith sucks. His equipment isn't all that bad, but I don't think he's finished higher than 30th this year... or last year too for that matter! Give that ride to somebody more deserving, like Ward Burton or Ricky Craven or Johnny Benson. 14. Woodbridge posted: 03.10.2008 - 6:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Nuck Chorris.... Almirola wasn't any better in limited action last year, either. Looks like Mark is a better driver than talent evaluator. I agree that Kyle Petty has every right to be on the track, but like Woodbridge said, he ought to run harder to prove that he still belongs out there. With Labonte running pretty well in the #43, it seems as though Kyle might be holding his team back. That being said, he is a great ambassador to the sport and terrific role model, so his presence in Nascar will always be welcome. 16. Rick Hendricks is an a-hole for firing him and it was the first of 2 stupid moves(Kyle Busch the 2nd). Brian Vickers has done more with less than Casey Mears will ever do. Don't give me that garbage. Vickers did great for an up start team with an up start manufacture, and just 40 races into it he is sitting in 9th place in the standings. Brian Vickers is a future Cup Champion you can take that to the bank... 18. NJuck Chorris posted: 03.11.2008 - 1:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) OK I was a little tough on Vickers (but you have to admit he did suck last year), but David Ragan only had 3 top 10s last year and 4 top 10s total in a Roush car. That translates to 1 top 10 for evey 10 races with the same team that has won half the races this season. How pathetic is that. I bet my 60 year old blind aunt can kick his butt. 19. samfan08 posted: 03.11.2008 - 2:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) If David Ragan ever learns patience and car control, he could be a good driver. He's 22 and was rushed into Cup, while also having to deal with replacing a legend in the 6 car. I'd give him 2-3 more years before saying he sucks. 20. I believe Brian Vickers WENT to Rick Hendrick and asked to be let out of his contract because he wasn't getting the best equipment that he could because he was always looked at as the 4th driver behind Johnson, J. Gordon and Ky. Busch. 21. Dodge posted: 03.11.2008 - 9:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) On my previous post about the correction on Vickers. I was able to find it and I just as I thought Vickers went to Rick and asked to be let out of his contract. I am not defending Mr. Hendrick as I do not like ANY of his drivers but I wanted to make sure that the accused get fair treatment. The Kyle Busch thing was properly stated though. What was Hendrick thinking when he got rid of Kyle Busch instead of Casey Mears. I don't like Kyle Busch though. Was it because of how Busch acted at times. At least Busch has POTENTIAL. 22. Sheet Metal posted: 03.12.2008 - 1:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I still can't understand why Rick Hendrick hired Mears in the first place. What has he done in his career? Though he was 14th in points in his last year with Ganassi, he led only 3 laps the entire season and was never a threat to win. He's a likable guy, but I just don't know what people see in him. 23. samfan08 posted: 03.12.2008 - 4:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Personally I think a lot of what everyone saw in Mears was his hype as best driver never to win, which he was for a while. Plus I think I heard that Hendrick looks at him like a son, which I'm sure played into his decision to keep him. I like Mears and think he's a solid driver. He'll win a few races in his career and may make a chase sometime. But he's not a championship contender and probably never will be. 24. Logano22 posted: 03.12.2008 - 5:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) What a...different race. Those tires were pitiful, though it made for interesting TV watching all the drivers dirt-track it through the turns. It does suck that NASCAR doesn't let the race go 90 laps under green without throwing a "debris" caution to bunch up the field. I love how NASCAR tries to keep as many cars on the lead lap and keep the field bunched up with those oh so well timed cautions, but they need to take a look back at the 1990s. Here, you had races go caution-free for over 200 laps sometimes. Sure the races got strung out a little more back then, but it was good to know that you didn't have to become skeptical every time the caution came out for debris. And low caution races didn't seem to affect ratings much back then, seeing as though the 1990s was when NASCAR experienced its most explosive growth. 25. DaleSrFanForever posted: 03.12.2008 - 8:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Brian Vickers is good on the big tracks but horrible on the smaller tracks. Any track where the cars are bunched up tight he struggles mightily. He can do well where you can spread out and have wide turns and not have to RACE, but otherwise he's out to lunch. He's up in the points cause the first 4 races are big tracks. Watch the next two weeks. He is not a Sprint Cup caliber driver. I hate to say this but I agree about Regan Smith. Truex and Mark are having decent runs, even Menard is doing mediocre. But Regan is awful. With Doug Richert as crew chief, he should be doing better. AJ Almendinger was flat out thrown to the wolves. I don't know if he is any good or not, but he was placed in a situation where he was destined to fail. Almost zero stock car experience, a horribly mismanaged start up organization, new manufacturer. We'll probably never know if could have done it or not. I have a hard time being hard on Kyle Petty. Yeah, he is totally pathetic on the track, but he has done so much for the underpriveledged, I just can't trash him. Now, if Kyle BUSCH ever started running like that.... 26.
