Dude's got mad talent and I won't be surprised if this kid takes down several titles and over 50 wins in his career. Great runs by Team Red Bull and David Ragan... Kenseth also impressed by coming back from a lap or two down to notch yet another top ten finish. Travis Kvapil hit a cone early in the race and was penalized while running in the Top 15. After that he was a lap down for most of the race, but he still ran lap times consistent with the Top 10. After finally getting Lucky Dogged onto the lead lap, he unexplainedly drops several laps down? What happened with Kvapil there? Two weeks in a row the dude had potential good runs ruined. 11. Anonymous posted: 07.14.2008 - 2:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) In addition to the significant horsepower advantages given with NASCAR's blessing to Toyota & (to a lesser extent) Ford this season, note also to what degree Toyota and Ford avail themselves of the free "test sessions" held nearly every week one day prior to the Cup races. I refer of course to their cup drivers' full participation in Nationwide Series races - thereby turning that series from one of driver development into the farce it has become. I.e, nothing but test sessions for Gibbs, Roush and Childress. Other Cup owners (Evernham, Hendrick, Ganassi, DEI) field a driver in the Nationwide Series now and then too, but hardly to the same extent. Of course the NNS cars aren't the same as the Cup cars, but it is still a very valuable test. There is currently no rule against this, and seeing as how NASCAR has not hesitated in recent years to make any number of _asinine_ rule changes, I hope that they will take the opportunity at some point to make an alteration to the rules that actually _makes sense_ and would improve the level of competition (which NASCAR is allegedly very interested in*) in TWO series. * to the point of micromanaging practically every other facet of what used to be called "racing". 22. Tony posted: 07.14.2008 - 3:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Had Gilliland not all but spontaneously combusted with 5 to go, I wouldn't have had to stand on the side of the road afterwards with a 'Honk if you hate Kyle Busch' sign, because Jimmie would have won and the entire grandstand would have been quite content with the end of the race. Busch is so freaking arrogant it's not even funny, and that is probably the only thing I have against him. 23. Neal posted: 07.14.2008 - 3:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) NASCAR needs to do SOMETHING about the Cup drivers playing in the Nationwide playground. Bobby Hamilton finished 6th in last year's Nationwide points standings yet only managed 3 Top 10 finishes all year. 24. Baker posted: 07.14.2008 - 4:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kyle Busch is a man amongst boys right now despite his young age. He has more talent than three quarters of the entire starting lineup combined. Just to put into perspective what he has been able to accomplish at only 23 years and 71 days. Kyle Busch has 11, yes 11 victories in that time frame with his first coming at only 20. Richard Petty only had 3 wins at that point first being at 22. Jeff Gordon only had 2 wins at that point his first also being at 22. and only Richard Petty, Jeff Gordon, Kurt Busch, Terry Labonte and Fireball Roberts, of racers with at least 11 career wins even won a single race before turning 23 years and 71 days. Kyle Busch could easily rewrite what we know about racing... 25. DaleSrFanForever posted: 07.14.2008 - 8:40 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Let's not crown Kyle Busch as 2008 Sprint Cup champion just yet. Yes, he is the most prohibitive favorite since the chase was invented, but not as prohibitive everyone has made it out to be. Other teams are really beginning to catch up. Jimmie Johnson and the 48 team are really beginning to show signs of their past dominance (and by the past I mean last year). They had them beat until the last caution and Jimmie's inexplicable decision to slow the field WAY down, a huge mistake considering Toyota's unparalleled torque coming from their engines. They have been very good from week to week lately, and most importantly are experienced in the pressure cooker that is the chase (just for the record I still hate the chase). They know how to step it up. I'm sure Jimmie will learn from this mistake. Roush Racing has also caught up speed wise (well, at least the cars with decent drivers). The 99 and the 16 have been as good, and at times better on the big tracks than the 18. If they can quit having these stupid things go wrong like they have EVERY single week (especially the 16) they might have a chance. Remember, Edwards clearly outclassed Kyle at Cali, Atlanta (before he blew up), Vegas, and Texas. IF those two teams can quit making silly errors, they can outrun the 18 for ten races. And don't forget about the Killer Bees. They have got their act together lately too. Remember when they seemed destined to be an also ran this year? That was just two months ago. If they can make half the jump in the next two months that they made in the last two months, watch out! Oh yeah, there is another team out there that has virtually cemented their spot in the chase despite numerous problems this year, and they have a driver by the name of Jeff Gordon. If they get their act together, we have all seen what Jeff can do when given an opportunity. Of course the biggest problem will be the fact that Kyle will start out with a huge points advantage at New Hampshire. It stands at 50 currently over Carl and 60 over Jimmie. You would have to believe that will only increase before then. But don't forget, the 18 team has Kyle Busch behind the wheel. Yes he is supremely talented, but also unbelievably immature. If they can put some pressure on him, there is a good chance he will slip up. If forced to play catch up, he could very possibly try too hard and throw his hopes away. He has tried so hard to antagonize the fans, if he falls, he will be mocked, and he will feel so much pressure to piss us off the way he has all year, it will really get to him. There is hope yet!!!!! (but not much) 26. #20 fan But #48 hater posted: 07.14.2008 - 10:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) when when when WHEN is tony gonna win a race?? 27. Neal posted: 07.15.2008 - 12:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) For those who think that Kyle Busch will rewrite the most sacred record of all - 200 victories, it won't happen - EVER. Richard Petty compiled most of his 200 victories at a time when the level of competition was nowhere near where it is now and the series raced 40-50 times a year. You'd have to average 10 wins a season over a 20 year career. That record is safe, it will never be broken. 28. Baker posted: 07.15.2008 - 11:27 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) no one says he will break 200 wins, but he can very easily take over the label of greatest driver in Nascar history. Many many many people will not say that about Richard Petty. There were plenty of guys who could out wheel him in a car anyday, but just never had the financial backing, or in today's world just not enough races. 29. DaleSrFanForever posted: 07.15.2008 - 12:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I also don't think Kyle will break or even match the record the King shares with Jeff Gordon of 13 wins in a season. Yes he is over halfway there just past the halfway mark of the season, but he has two factors working against him. First of all, as I mentioned earlier, other teams are catching up, and even passing him at times. And secondly, he has used up a lot of luck already. These last two wins have come courtesy of well timed late race cautions. At Daytona, Carl Edwards had the outside line, which always seems to prevail at Daytona (see Harvick, Kevin; McMurray, Jamie; and Newman, Ryan: none has won since) and of course this race he got the last caution after Jimmie had set sail. Luck don't last forever! 30. mk17ce99 posted: 07.15.2008 - 2:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) If it were a 500 mile race, Matt Kenseth might have won.
