David Reutimann did a great job today. He is capable of doing that every week if he was driving for a better race organization. Anyone says A.J. Allmendinger proved today that doesn't belong in cup didn't watch the same race as rest of us did. The 84 team had engine problems at the start of the race like being down a cylinder. That is not the driver's fault. Dale Jr. gets his best finish since his Michigan win. 2. WillG_46 posted: 09.07.2008 - 9:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) A truly great race. Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson did not have the best cars today, but they put on one hell of a show at the end with Johnson coming out on top. The two cars that dominated the day were Dale Earnhardt, Jr, and surprisingly David Reutimann who took advantage of pit strategy but held his own, showing his great amount of talent. Unfortunately they did not have their cars up to snuff at the end. Also some possible payback midway through the race when Dale Earnhardt Jr got into the back of Kyle Busch, reminiscent of the incident earlier this season. Or maybe he just locked up his brakes like it appeared. Or maybe not. I love poking at things :) 3. Pathetic pit stop drops him from the lead entiring the pits and he never had enough time to regain the lead. This car is just as pathetic as the old car. Whoever has the clean air will always have the advantage. Dale Junior obviously payed Kyle Busch back and everyone loved it. I'm fine with the payback. What I am not fine with, however, is the fact that everyone loves it and doesn't even care. If Kyle Busch, Tony Stewart or Denny Hamlin ever pulled that garbage there would have been a huge up roar. It's BS how certain drivers can get away with anything, but others get harpped on for even pay back contact. I've never once seen Tony Stewart hit a driver who didn't hit him first, but he is the biggest villian in the sport. BS. 4. Way too many BS cautions in this race. Nowadays, if a car barely scrapes the wall and drives away, NASCAR still throws the yellow. 32 cars on the lead lap at a short track is ridiculous. David Reutimann once again proves he is a real driver working for a fraudulent owner. 8. That'll never happen again. Great run for Kyle Petty, and even better for Carl Edwards, considering he went down a lap when he had an unscheduled pit stop when his tired went down. 9. Brandon posted: 09.08.2008 - 11:34 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) ...also, a pathetic showing for the Dodge teams, only 2 in the top 20!!! And Sam Hornish, Jr. and Patrick Carpentier, aren't getting any better. It's time to go Gees, among Dario Franchitti, Jacques Villeneuve, and Sam Hornish, Jr.; the Indy 500 hundred has lost some juice for me if those 3 drivers can win it!!!! 10. It's time to go Patrick is getting better. His results are approving. Just because he isn't contending for top tens yet don't mean much. If he had a full season sponsor, this team may be better. By the way, I hope GEM keeps Patrick and starts a new team for Reed Sorenson. Reed is not better than Patrick. 14. Why they haven't built more tracks like this, I'll never know. Kudos to Rusty and everyone who designed and built Iowa Speedway. The Chicago and Kansas races ought to go there, but that will never happen due to "market purposes". That is the problem. With tracks being built in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Kansas City, they have no incentive to build a good race track, they know they will get a date or two no matter what. That is NASCAR's fault. Sunday's race was awesome with Jimmmie and Tony racing side by side for 10 laps for the win, you never see that anymore, and that is a shame. Dodge, I agree about Patrick and Reed. I mentioned that on Reed's driver page. At best it is a lateral step, and if Patrick keeps improving, it will be a backwards step. 15. If Matt Kenseth can lead a race with a engine problems on a different track, it means he had a DIFFERENT, LESS SEVERE engine problem than A.J. Don't bash A.J. this weekend over something that wasn't even his fault. 16. samfan08 posted: 09.09.2008 - 10:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Great run for Reutimann. He needs to drive for a team with good equipment. Disagree about Hornish and Carpentier, especially Carpentier. He's improved quite a bit here in the last few weeks, and is making a serious run at ROTY. Seems like Penske made the wrong move with Sam's crew chief change, at least before the car would at least get a little better through the race. Too early to tell if they'll be great, or even good in NASCAR, but it's also too early to tell if they'll keep running this badly. It takes time to get used to the car. I do agree that Indy has lost some luster, even with the merger. 17. Chris posted: 09.10.2008 - 3:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I disagree with the fact that Reutimann needs to drive for better equipment. MWR has improved greatly but is still not at the level of the other teams. His car just wasnt as fast as the others in the long run. Some are good on short runs, others on long. 18. Kit posted: 09.10.2008 - 6:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Chris, Reutimann would have already won several races if he had better equipment. 19. Kit posted: 09.11.2008 - 10:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Chris, the cars do not drive themselves. Gibbs and Hendrick are winning because their drivers are capable of taking advantage of their equipment. You don't see Michael Waltrip winning races in good equipment for example. 22. Kit posted: 09.13.2008 - 12:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Chris, you didn't disprove my point. Michael Waltrip only won races with DEI at tracks which took the LEAST driver skill. Anywhere else besides Talladega and Daytona, Michael Waltrip was NOT competitive for a win even though the DEI equipment was capable of winning at other tracks. I think he only came close to winning at New Hamshire but he drove off with a gas can still in his car. DEI even had to tell him that he needed to improve his finished as a DRIVER. Actually you proved my point: even in competitive equipment, you have to have a certain level of driving ability to be competitive. That should be obvious. 26. Chris posted: 05.27.2009 - 12:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kit, to say plate track require the least driver skill is ignorant at best (I would give that honor to Cal and Mich). And waltrip WAS competitive at numerous tracks other than the plates. You'd know that if you've been watching the races. 27. I admit I cheered when Jr spun Busch (I was only nine years old) because the spring race was still fresh in my memory. After this race though I pretty much forgave Kyle (until 2011) since they were even now. I was as surprised as anyone when Reutimann of all people led a bunch of laps since I didn't really know much about him yet. The battle for the win at the end was pretty exciting and looking back at it now I can say that I watched two legends duel for the win. 31.
