This won't be a fluke win. 3. He is a legend by being a driver or a cup owner of 3 major wins. As a Nascar Owner, he now has 6 wins. He also has 16 wins in the Nascar Camping World West Series, Nationwide series and the Cup series combined. 4. It's time to sack Tony Eury Jr. This was the worst race car I have ever seen Dale Jr drive. It is time to do a major shake up and it needs to begin with the crew chief. Also kudos to NASCAR for doing their best to get the race restarted and give the fans the full race. I haven't seen NASCAR try that hard to get a race restarted in a long time so it's good to see them trying to give the fans the most racing possible. 5. I've really bad-mouthed Team Waltrip for a while but I'm happy for David and his father who got to see his son win his first race, yes, they stole one but David's worked hard enough to get a win like everyone else. He beat Kyle Busch and all those other teams by strategy and everything worked out. Talk about being in the right position. This race was finally over...just bad weather this time. 6. Reutemann shoould be ashamed to accept that trophy. Nascar succeeded in stealing 2 wins from Kyle Busch in 1 weekend. That has got to be a record. We don't care if they had to postpone the race until Thursday, the fans were cheated and Kyle Busch was cheated and Joe Gibbs Racing was cheated. The only 2 good stories of the race were: 1. Earmfarts jr getting lapped 2 times and finishing a pitiful 39th 2. Reutimanns crew guy scaring the hell out of Stert Jr. has access to all the Henrick data from Mummy Martin, Johnson, Gordon, Stert and Neumen 7. And what a painful race to watch...one delay after another (reminded me of last year's Fontana debacle). Just a shame that the two biggest races so far have been cut short by the damn rain. Anyway, Kyle Busch was the man to beat, and great runs for Vickers, Montoya, Kahne, and the suddenly-competent Joey Logano. My god, does RCR suck on the intermediate tracks. All four teams looked completely lost in this race. Speaking of sucking, what's the deal with David Ragan? Other than Texas where he had a top-5 car, Ragan has been consistently pathetic this year. I'm starting to think Jack Roush should send him to Yates next year and keep McMurray. 8. Reutimann had a 12th place car all day and would NEVER have won had the green come back out. I like Reutimann, I just wish he didn't drive for such a massive tool. 10. Sure this win can be classified as a fluke, but its not fluke that Reutimann is on the verge of making the cha$e and Ambrose is in the top 20. I am so glad to see Reutimann win, couldn't do a more deserving guy who earned his place in the sport on the basis of hard work and talent. That being said this race probably steals the Worst Race of 2009 award from the Daytona 500. Shrub basically dominated the Nationwide and Cup events but walked away with absolutely nothing. I laughed my ass off when I saw Dale Jr wrestling with that horrible handling car. I wasn't surprised that racing in the daytime was going to stump the 88 team as far as hitting a good setup. The way he's going, he's on track to have his WORST season ever. Worse than 2002 when he dropped like a rock in points because of his concussion, worse than 2005 when he had three different crew chief, worse than 2007 when his engines blew up every week. Some make Mr Hendrick take a drug test for not making some changes to that awful team. 11. David becomes the oldest driver to win his first race since Lake Speed did in 1988. Robby Gordon got has best finish at an Oval Since he won at Loudon in 2001 and his first top 5 at an oval since Darlington in 2004. RCR really sucks at cookie cutter tracks this year. Joey Logano might be turning the corner now. Willy on Wheels better be quiet about bashing him now since Joey has 3 top 10's in the last 4 races. The 88 car looked too evil on the track. I am shocked Jr. didn't crash with that sorry excuse of a race car. Who ever is responsible for that needs to get fired. Once in a while Hendrick has a car that really sucks at the 600, but this is pathetic. This is the worst race Jr. had since the 2004 Las Vegas Motor Speedway race. Jr. had bad races before, but this is really bad based on "his standard of bad driving" this year. 14. Anonymous posted: 05.25.2009 - 8:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) You can't steal from nature. What a dumb statement - if you knew anything about racing you would know that the best car doesn't always win. Nothing stopped those guys from staying out when the caution came out. When NASCAR screws up I am the first one to call them out. However this time they got it right - they waited 2-3 hours before they called the race, so it's not like they dropped the win in Reutimann's lap. Good runs for veterans Labonte and Awesome Bill who made his 800th start. 17. Baker posted: 05.25.2009 - 9:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Who gives a flying ... how long they waited. He will talk for the rest of the year about how David Reutimann is one of the top drivers in the series and his team is a top of the line team on the lines of Gibbs and Hendrick. First win for the TRD engine(Gibbs makes their own engines).Kyle Busch has led the most laps 4 times this year and has won 1 of those races, but has won 2 in which he did not. 23. 18fan posted: 05.25.2009 - 10:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Reutimann becomes the 20th driver to win in all three series. All the cars stopped on the frontstretch and shut down thier motors. All the crew members lined up on pit road and all the tracks flags were lowered to half staff in united support of our troops past and present. Saturday Night was a joke with Bliss winning and on Monday Reutimann. I have an idea for NASCAR. How about if we get a rain-shortened race like this one. Ran 227 of the scheduled 400 Get the percent and the teams win that percent of the purse: which would be 56.75% Take the other 43.25% and refund the fans. They should change the halfway rule, especially now because I bet a lot of fans can only afford one trip this year and they choose to go to a race. They owe it to the fans to COMPLETE a race in its entirety. I don't care what Newman or any other driver says. 34. They win the Nationwide race on Saturday, and then at the start of the race Mike Joy stated that there wouldn't be any start and park entries. Yet they head to the garage with a vibration, while even Nemechek and Blaney ran the entire race. To all the people bitching about how Reutimann got his first win, get over it. All the other cars had the option of staying out and they didn't. And NASCAR wasn't quick to call the race like with last year's summer New Hampshire race and this year's Daytona race. Reutimann waited out in the rain for over 2 hours before the rain was called. When the race was called it was 6:30pm ET. Assuming it took 2 hours to dry the track the race wouldn't have restarted until 8:30pm. It would then take another full 2 hours to finish the race, during which time the rain could come down with no warning, meaning that someone else could have stolen this win later down the road. So really, NASCAR made the right call for once. I thought the 3pm tribute was a nice touch, probably the first anything like that has happened during a Cup race. 36. Mostly everybody else chose to pit, leaving Reutimann, Newman and Robby Gordon (and Edwards?) to take advantage by choosing to stay out. Logano gets his third ninth-place finish in the last four races (and his only three top tens he's earned to this point). He's definitely figured out how to handle those cars a lot better than he was. Until he wins another race, which will most likely have to be for another organization as MWR has really sunk lately after a promising start, it will be worse for him than if he still had zero wins. He will constantly have the "Yeah, but...." added when he is announced as a Sprint Cup winner. I know a win is a win and it still counts, but he can just look at Derrike Cope. Yeah, he is still the 1990 Daytona 500 winner, but anyone who knows anything about it knows what a fluke it was, and that was a race that went the full distance. Until he builds up a resume, it will be bad for him. That is the difference between his win here and Matt Kensteth's Daytona win this year (that and the fact that Matt actually made a green flag pass for the lead). "I don't know what's worse, the fact that this win was a total fluke, or the forthcoming 2 weeks worth of delusional blathering from Mikey about how good his outfit is." Exactly. Watching him trying to steal the spotlight from David was sickening. Luckily, his car have really fallen lately and this will most likely be forgotten soon. Nascar Knew that showers were in the area im very dissapointed that they just did not postpone it another day, yes i understand that many fans would have been out a lot of money but then again they were already since the race was postponed and people had work obligations even on memorial day. in my opinion i think they should have reserved the race until the next open weekend which was july 18th i know the history of the surrounding week but it would have been a better race if it was rescheduled. however as for the race itself: if the race had resumed after the last rain delay it would have challenged the first darlington race for the longest nascar race. i really really liked the 3:00 memorial day tribute which was the most awesome thing i have ever seen in nascar that was great! im glad newman got a solid start and even overcame adversity early on when he came for the lower 30s to rally up to the top fifteen and then get a 2nd place finish by staying out. as much as i hate the rain delays i usually base what i would want to happen based on where my favorite driver (stewart) and the driver i hate (johnson) are running on the track so you guys know that i was really hoping to go green again but i knew once we made it past that fateful mark of 200 laps that the race would end on the first rain delay to come out and i was right only when the caution came out i thought kyle busch woulda won it and i was alright with that because tony was tenth and ahead of gordon and looking good for his first point lead since 05 but what i didnt expect was nearly everyone to come down pit road and much less in tonys case take four tires. and of course johnson and gordon get to finish ahead of him. ok fine i can deal with that. he only lost a few points to gordon and now he is THE ONLY DRIVER WITHIN 100 POINTS OF GORDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HECK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so not much else to be mad about we saw our second first time nascar sprint cup winner in less than a months time so im just going to put this race behind me and cant wait for next week where i predict ryan newman to win. 46. I honestly stopped caring much for the sport because all my favorite drivers from the 80s are pretty much done or semi-retired, but Kahne reminds me of them. He was chasing down Busch and got pissed when the caution came out for rain. He could have won the race if he took the risk to stay out, but his car was so good that I guess it was too risky of a move for them. Kahne is a straight-up stock car racer without the emotional baggage of Kyle Busch or Tony Stewart. Speaking of Stewart, he really ate some crow at this race. He was a real crybaby with the way he acted towards Reutimann. "Us drivers need to work together and Reutimann needs to understand that! We still have 400+ miles to go!" Guess who won the race, Stewart? I think just about everyone except Stewart realized that there was no way the race was going to be run the full distance with all the rain in the area and the fact that it was already late Monday. Reutimann raced like they only had less than 100 laps left that was pretty much true. Reutimann raced like I'd expect: a driver who doesn't have the best equipment but has a decent car for the race and realizes that the race is going to be rain shortened. I don't get why Fox needs to try to instigate something. They had no business interviewing Stewart and later Reutimann over the incident. That was a private driver affair. Stewart, of course, starts with the name calling like a 10-year-old who just lost at marbles. Reutimann acted his age. Fox, of course, tries to take Stewart's side with the bullshit "Stewart's won a bunch of races so he knows everything!" attitude. Well, apparently not because Reutimann was declared the winner. I thought Stewart matured a little after buying a stake in a pre-existing team but I guess not. He'll bitch about the way Reutimann is driving but I guess he doesn't remember how he put Matt Kenseth into the wall a few seasons back. "They should change the halfway rule, especially now because I bet a lot of fans can only afford one trip this year and they choose to go to a race. They owe it to the fans to COMPLETE a race in its entirety." NASCAR does not control the weather. When you buy tickets to the race, you assume responsibility that it might rain and the race might be rain shortened. Caveat emptor. 47. The problem is that with the network deal they don't want to lose that many casual viewers. They would rather show an incomplete race during prime viewer hours than a complete race that the true fans will stay up for. We talk a lot about what is driving viewers from NASCAR, and we usuallt talk about the follow the leader races, bad race tracks, snotty drivers, etc. And I agree with those points. But I think we overlook the expensive big network contracts. That is responsible for the later start times which put the races in the afternoon purgatory. It was also indirectly responsible for the cha$e and the COT. 51. But if you think about it, he hasn't had much to complain about. With zero expectations his cars have run well beyond expectations. But even when the few little things have gone wrong this year, he reacted like a child. After Newman blew a tire in Daytona, he once again went on his rant towards Goodyear. His argument that Hoosier should take over is totally ridiculous. They tried to get involved twice, and both times were disasters. He needs to go ask Geoff Bodine how the Hoosiers worked for him in 1994. That is if Geoff can even remember 1994. He hit the wall so many times that year after blowing tires he probably lost his memory from that year. Seriously, he probably woke up one day around 1996 or so and said to himself "What the hell am I doing in Alan Kulwicki's car?" 52. b4il3y posted: 05.26.2009 - 8:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Since so many people are whining about fluke victories...lets just take away all "fluke" wins. None of them count. Nada. Go back through history and see how many races ended in rain-outs and someone pulled the trigger for a win. Or...last lap accidents that hand a win to someone. It's part of the sport. Richard Petty once said, "sometimes its not about being in the lead, just being in a position to win". Winner of the 1979 Daytona 500 btw, 10+ seconds off the lead into the white flag lap and wins the race. A win is a win is a win. Get over it, be happy for the guy, and hope this motivates him and his team to put together a finish line win..which the driver is more than capable of doing. 53. I respect him for his driving talent as well as his charitable deeds, but sometimes he makes a real ass out of himself when he opens his mouth. Case in point - the Reutimann/Stewart altercation. He basically bitched about Reutimann racing him too hard and stated that there were 425 miles left in the race. Look up at the sky Tony, did you really think the race was going to be run to its full distance?? I hope Tony enjoys washing the egg of his face that "Billy Bad Butt" threw at him after Reutimann won. Looks like Reutimann was the one who raced "smart". The way I see it, he probably harbors a grudge towards Reutimann for putting Newman in the wall during the Gatorade Duels. Now that he's an owner I guess he knows what it feels like when your car winds up on the hook. I understand when drivers complain about someone wrecking them or racing dirty, but guys who bitch about others racing them too hard are idiots. If they don't like being raced hard, then maybe its time they joined the start and park business. Phil Parsons is always hiring! 54. So it's an improvement from cussing to calling crew chiefs names like a 10-year-old? The fact is, Tony Stewart shouldn't have had an issue with Reutimann in the first place! Stewart has done WAY worse on the track. Stewart has damaged his own car by purposely hitting other drivers on the track after getting pissed off. Don't throw rocks when you live in a glass house. Stewart has always been about the drama. There's few other drivers who are consistently throwing fits like that. "but i was really upset with fox in this race i think the report card stuff was crap as well as anything else they talked about " The report card I agree with. Just about every multi-car team except for Hendrick sucks this year. "it was absolutely unnecessary and something fox jumped all over so they could fill some camera time" I agree, Fox shouldn't play favorites in a situation like that. Totally unprofessional. "but afterwards everything was resolved as they were pushing the car into the makeshift victory lane tony stewart called up reatimann" Stewart was just saving face. There shouldn't have been a situation to resolve in the first place. "and congratulated David for his win which really shows how far tony has matured since his home depot days it must have been hard for him to swallow but he still did the right thing and i commend him for it." You're joking, right? Yeah, Stewart has really matured for being a crybaby in the first place then trying to save face afterwards when the driver he bitched about won the race without any major on-track incidents. "oh yeah and Kit, youll be getting a comment on the tony stewart page before long about comments made there." And why should I be concerned with this? "I understand Kit, NASCAR doesn't control the weather, but if a track has lights, they should go as late as need be." Dodge, the DPS didn't want that many people at the track that late in the week because of all the traffic issues. Also, people needed to go back to work. There's no point of restarting a race at 4AM on a Tuesday morning when nobody is at the track and nobody is watching on TV. The teams also have to prepare for the next weekend. I know I said that the last Daytona 500 sucked, but the reality is NASCAR makes the rule that if they run half-way and it rains, the race is official. EVERYONE agrees to that when they show up to race. David Reutimann is the winner. "I understand when drivers complain about someone wrecking them or racing dirty, but guys who bitch about others racing them too hard are idiots." That's the hilarious part: Stewart HAS wrecked someone intentionally on the track and HAS raced dirty. Yet he's complaining about Reutimann "racing too hard." That's like bitching about jaywalkers when you're driving 40 m.p.h. over the speed limit. "If a race is weather-shortened, why not revert back to the running order at the moment the final caution was thrown?" Busch and Kahne could have won if they stayed out. They elected to pit. Their loss. Chris, Michael Waltrip sucks, get over it. 59. This will prevent fluke victories like this one. At least at this year's Daytona 500, the final finishing order was how they were running under green at the time of the rain, and the winner actually made a green flag pass. Don't make the teams guess weather or not the race will restart. But as I said on David's driver page, he deserves to be a winner. What he has done at that organization is amazing. He 100% deserves the nickname "The Franchise" because he is the franchise over there. He has been by far the lone bright spot in MWR's extremely ugly history. You have had Dale Jarrett, the once proud champion, running like complete garbage and missing many races even after being granted 6 past champion's provisionals. You have had Michael McDowall trying to break the record for most spectacular crashes in a single year. You have had the company's namesake once again showing many of NASCAR's dirty little secrets: You don't have to be a good driver to win the sports biggest race (multiple times!), you don't have to be a good driver to get sponsorship, you don't have to be a good driver to start over 1000 races in NASCAR, you don't have to be a good driver to get more air time than past champions. And of course the ugly scandals. Putting jet fuel in your car has to be one of the dumbest things you could possibly do. And then they stole one of Roush's sway bars. Yet here is David, running in the Top 10 and sniffing a cha$e spot. Yes it was a total fluke, but he deserves that trophy. 63. Bliss' tumultuous weekend in Charlotte began on Thursday with a surprising 7th-fastest qualifying run for the 600 at a speed of 187.422 mph. The run was his second top-10 start in as many Cup races; he started 6th at Richmond three weeks earlier. In Saturday night's Nationwide Series race, Bliss was the benefactor of a wild finish. A late-race caution during green-flag stops trapped leaders Kyle Busch and Brian Vickers a lap down, moving Bliss and Brendan Gaughan into the lead. Bliss took the lead from Gaughan just before the rains came, ultimately ending the race with 30 laps to go and giving Bliss his first Nationwide Series victory in five years. Despite the victory and a determination to run the entire 600-miler the next day, Bliss fell back on Monday and went behind the wall under the third caution on lap 40, a scheduled competition caution, with a bad vibration. Bliss did not return to the race and was credited with completing 42 laps. The finish was both Bliss and owner James Finch's second last-place finish of 2009, the previous being the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta. For Bliss, it is also his second last-place finish at the Lowe's Motor Speedway, the previous one being the fall race in 2000, then called the UAW-GM Quality 500. It is the first time a last-place finisher fell out with a vibration since Derrike Cope fell out of the 2006 Crown Royal 400 at Richmond en route to scoring a record six last-place finishes in a single year. 2009 RANKINGS 1st) Dave Blaney (3) 2nd) Mike Bliss (2) 3rd) Todd Bodine, David Gilliland, Matt Kenseth, Joey Logano, Mark Martin, Joe Nemechek, Tony Raines (1) Visit http://brockbeard.blogspot.com/ for more. 81.
