Good to see Kasey Kahne pull off the win but I dont car what people say....It wasnt a Richard Petty Car in victory lane...Im sorry maybe if it was the 43 or 44 car it might seem more like a Petty car win but It felt like a Gillete or Evernham win. Also good to see Allmendinger, Sadler, Carpuntier (as Mike Joy said on Wind Tunnel) and Max Papis run great today. My main focus of my posting today will be for Carl Long's sake I cant belive NA$CAR levied that unbelivable fine agianst him and then to add insult to injury only reduce his suspension. I mean Im not sayin he shouldnt have been fined or what not because that woulda been unfair too. But to possibly bankrupt a guy just seems way too harsh to a guy even with an "oversized engine" had no chance of even contending during the race just lookin to race. Visit this site http://www.carl-long.com/donations.htm and support Carl Also NASCAR needs to do somthing to the openings on all walls including tracks not visited by the big three. Of course this coming after the death of Carlos Pardo but not only makin the tracks safer but they need to somthin about that car because that car should not of broken apart like that either. NASCAR needs to do somthin for saftey in the smaller series too I know I was suppose to talk about the race but these two happenings over the week just kept buggin me But congrats to Kasey Kahne on today's win 2. dUDE gUY posted: 06.21.2009 - 10:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kasey Kahne gets his first win on a road course in the Cup series, Marcos Ambros earns his third career top 5, and his first a Sonoma, and Patrick Carpentier gets his best finish of his career, finishing 11th in Michael Waltrip's car. 3. Baker posted: 06.21.2009 - 10:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hats off to Kasey Kahne. He drove himself the best race of his life...that was some great wheeling out there to hold off the best in the business for 3 restarts and almost 30 laps. He didn't make one single slip up. I never thought I'd see the day Tony Stewart would be a gracious runner-up, but thats the 4th time already this year he just barely lost and he was still happy with a great day. I'm liking it. Scott Speed can stick his face in a meat grinder. He was jealous a 19 year old kid is kicking him all over the track this year and after a racing incident with Joey making contact he decided to come back and hit him more than once costing Joey a sure Top 10 run. I hope Scott Speed loses his ride and never finds success in racing. 4. Since when did Kasey Kahne become such a good road racer anyway? 5. WillG46 posted: 06.21.2009 - 11:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Can't help but feel sorry for Jr. Looks like he was finally going to get a top 10, then Carl Bigheadwards boots another car into him. But that's his luck. Also feel sorry for Brandon Ash. Guy hardly gets the chance to race in Cup, made todays race and was running in the top 15 for much of the first half and gets wrecked. 6. DaleSrFanForever posted: 06.21.2009 - 11:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) When Tony got to 2nd behind Kasey, I just knew that Tony would pass him and ride off into the sunset. I was WRONG!! What an outstanding driving performance by Kasey Kahne. He was so smooth with one of the best road racers ever breathing down his neck. If he had slipped just once in those last laps, tony would have been gone. But he didn't. If his team were more consistent, there is no telling what he could accomplish. And how cool was it to see Richard Petty in victory lane. I know he only owns like $5 in that organization, but it was still cool as hell to see. Was there anybody out there that Boris Said didn't spin out? 7. Bronco posted: 06.21.2009 - 11:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Big time congratulations to Kahne on this win, it couldn't have happened to a more deserving driver. I honestly didn't think there was any way he would hold off Stewart, Ambrose and Montoya but somehow he pulled it off despite all those restarts. I was disappointed to see Dale Jr finish 26th after running in the top 10. In my opinion, he is quickly becoming one of the unluckiest guys in Cup. "Good to see Kasey Kahne pull off the win but I dont car what people say....It wasnt a Richard Petty Car in victory lane...Im sorry maybe if it was the 43 or 44 car it might seem more like a Petty car win but It felt like a Gillete or Evernham win." I totally agree with you on this. To me the 9 car will always be associated with Evernham/Elliott. I just find it ironic how the King was always against alcohol sponsored cars, and here he is in wine country with a Budweiser sponsored car winning the race. 8. Rusty posted: 06.21.2009 - 11:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Really disapponting, Kurt Busch was in the top 5 all day but got turned by Jimmie Johnson with 20 or so laps to go. He somehow managed to go from 38th to salvage a decent 15th place finish. I thought Boris Said was a road course expert? He was nothing but a wrecking ball in this race. 9. Mike posted: 06.22.2009 - 12:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I feel so bad for Jr. He had a top 5-10 car and then his pit crew screws up, he gets back in the top 10 then he gets in a crash caused by Carl Edwards! Oh well at least he had a top 10 car at a track he's struggled at his entire career. Glad to see Allmendinger bounce back from his early race problems to finish 7th. 10. He was running 8th, passing Hornish when Sam cut him off, buckling Kyle's hood. He lost a lap pitting for repairs. He gets the lucky dog and gets back on the lead lap. Kyle gets up to 21st when Jeff Burton spins him. He gets it going, stays on the lead lap until Scott Speed stalls. He passed 14 cars on the gwc to end up 22nd. Junior was having one of his best Sonoma runs when Carl Edwards spins David Ragan and Junior was on Ragan's outside. Boris Said was involved in about five wrecks. Allmedinger cut a tire early, then got his lap back and got spun by Hamlin, who was leading. Great job by Kahne to hold off Stewart and Ambrose. My dad and I were certainly banking on Tony to make the pass and never did. Ambrose had a very interesting strategy and finished 3rd. I felt bad for Brandon Ash. He qualified for his first race in three years and was on the lead lap most of the day, intending to run the whole race, unlike Jones and Blaney, until he crashed hard after getting turned. Blaney start and parks yet another race. He has finished one race, and the race he retired with "crash", he had less damage than Kyle today. Fellows gave Finch's team its second lead lap finish this year. Its ironic that in the two races that Phoenix Racing entered a Chevrolet they finished on the lead lap. In the 10 races they've entered a Dodge, they've parked nine times. Just some random thoughts about today's race 12. John Royal posted: 06.22.2009 - 4:17 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Great race! But where did Kahne come from??? Virtually non-factor in every road race and now even Stewart and Ambrose didn't have any tricks for him. Felt so sorry for Robby when his gamble cost him big time, such a scene of frustration inside that car. Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Boris Said and Denny Hamlin were screwing other drivers races all the time :D Easily most exciting race this season after Talladega. More road courses! Elkhart Lake for speed and Long Beach for bumping and banging excitement! But what the hell did that piece of wall do at the chute? I was just waiting to happen somebody slamming that wall. When they removed all the hills, removing the wall wouldnt be too much to ask for. Or just go back to the old configuration :) Great race! 13. Jamie is doing a great job this year, I'd hate to see his team fold at the end of the year. Also career best finish for Max Papis (12th) whose best previous finish was 18th at Talladega this year. Same for Patrick Carpentier (11th) whose best previous finish was 14th during last year's July Daytona race. Good to see JPM move into the top 12 in points as well. 16. He has a history of wrecking teammates on the track. Boris Said has a history of wrecking other cars before today at road courses in Nascar. A.J. Allmendinger gets his best finish since the Daytona 500. Elliot Sadler gets his best finish since the Daytona 500. 17. hyperacti posted: 06.22.2009 - 12:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) When's the last time you saw both Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson get caught speeding on pit road in the same race? They finished 9th and 4th, anyway. Jeff Gordon went from the 30's to 9th after the final fuel stop for everyone. It seems like there's no love between the Roush teammates. They never work together, and worse, they wreck each other! It seems like Jack likes to keep his guys competing against one another for his love lol, kinda how Jamie and David have to fight to be the car he keeps. And yes it REALLY looked like Bobby Labonte tried to bring out the intentional caution. The second the yellow was waved, he hopped right back out onto the racetrack. But who cares, and what do we know. It's not a debate worthy topic. 18. Baker posted: 06.22.2009 - 12:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 18afan, Sam Hornish didn't cut off Kyle Busch. Dodge posted: 06.22.2009 - 3:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This could be Kasey's last win in a Dodge. An RPM official has supposedly said that by mid-August, Kahne may be in a Toyota. The reason is that Dodge owes so much so they are trying to come to financial terms to let the 9 ONLY for the time being be a Toyota. The 19 and 44 are question marks while the 43 will be a Dodge for the forseeable future, supposedly. As a Kasey fan, it sucks because that is why I go by Dodge but if it will give him a better chance, then I guess thats what they have to do.I guess this definately means that Ray Evernham has 0 percent of the team. Last I knew he had very little percent but no it must be none at all. 22. Anonymous posted: 06.22.2009 - 3:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yes Dodge, Robby has intentionally brought out a caution and fined 25 points for it. It can't be proven that Bobby did it but it was frustrating as a Robby fan. Also, I like the Glen much better than Sonoma. More passing zones and better suited for stock cars. ISC has unfortunately spent very little money on the Glen while Bruton has done a nice job with Sonoma. 23. Dodge posted: 06.22.2009 - 5:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah, the Glen is a great road course for NASCAR. But the Glen don't even have 43 pit stalls. I know they are going to fix that but NASCAR has had 43 car fields since 1997 or 1998 in every race and those tracks that doesn't have 43 stalls should be off the schedule till they get 43 stalls. The Glen is he only track left with only 42 stalls since Dover has already added one more stall for the race earlier this month. 24. Kit posted: 06.22.2009 - 8:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Nascar needs more road courses on the schedule." No thanks. I'd rather see driver racing each other than racing the track. I like stock car racing because it's primarily circle track racing. Anyway, it's about time Kahne won a race, and it's great to see him win a race that nobody expected him to win. I've always known that he's one of the most talented drivers in Cup and it's amazing that people still doubted him before and after this win. The green-white-checker needs to disappear. The race is advertised as 350 miles. NASCAR should not arbitrarily extend the race to 351+ miles just so that Stewart or whomever is in second place has a chance to win the race. Kahne could have potentially gotten screwed. "In my opinion, he is quickly becoming one of the unluckiest guys in Cup." That's Dale Jr's own damn fault. When he has an opportunity for a great finish, he screws up. He has to expect to have races like this in which a good finish is out of his control. So now he has bad finishes he could have avoided on top of bad finishes that are not his doing. "Its ironic that in the two races that Phoenix Racing entered a Chevrolet they finished on the lead lap. In the 10 races they've entered a Dodge, they've parked nine times." They are fielding a huge disparity in equipment. When they field a Dodge, it's second-rate junk with leftover Ernie Elliott engines. When they field a Chevy, they have decent equipment, especially when they stick Brad in the car with a Hendrick chassis and engine. The #09 Dodge cars are so bad that they are really not "start and parks," the cars can't really run for 40+ laps. Hell, they had to change an ENTIRE shock on a pit stop once. "And I just wanna say TNT's coverage was excellent. Much more professional than the clowns at Fox." I totally agree. Kyle Petty is the best announcer as of late. "Felt so sorry for Robby when his gamble cost him big time, such a scene of frustration inside that car." Well, this and the Glen are his only two chances to win in Cup. Honestly, what the hell was he thinking? He's never going to be competitive in Cup as an owner/driver; he doesn't have the maturity to run his own team. He should have stuck with the #31. 27. That's so true, I can think of numerous occasions when they've pissed each other off. Kenseth wrecked McMurray during the closing laps of the 2007 Daytona 500, which set up the GWC. Then Carl took out two of his cha$e teammates with a dumb move last year at Talladega. This year the Biff wrecked Carl at Darlington, and Carl tried his best to wreck him at Dover. And who could forget Carl almost whooping Kenseth's butt after the fall 2007 Martinsville race! Seems to me like there's a power struggle, and there really shouldn't be, since Carl is obviously the best driver there. 28. John Royal posted: 06.23.2009 - 4:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "No thanks. I'd rather see driver racing each other than racing the track." That is what I mainly think about racing, but this race proved that with cars that really are not road race cars in any means, driver just can't race the track. Even passing can be achieved only by banging people out of the line, like in old Bristol. But I know too that if they would add number of road races teams will start to really tune up some road racing cars and it will become "cookie cutter road racing" which in my book is worst possible form of motorsports. But you can't deny that this race was damn exciting? :D 29. DaleSrFanForever posted: 06.23.2009 - 3:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) That wreck was completely Kyle's fault. He didn't slow down nearly enough. He had a great car and trashed it. It is funny that he constantly berates his crew for their mistakes and storms off, forcing them to push the car back to the hauler. If I were the crew members for the #18, I would leave and force him to load everything up. 30. But at the end of the day we need to get the best drivers in the best cars. We have talented drivers like Kasey and David Reutimann running (and winning!) in 2nd tier stuff while some of the best cars are being driven by people who simply don't belong. Maybe Toyota can bring that organization up to par. I just hope it doesn't dilute their resources with so many Toyota teams. 31. If JPM does make the cha$e, it would be huge. It would prove that open wheel drivers can suceed in NASCAR given time and proper equipment, and it would prove that EGR doesn't totally suck like everyone thought they would. Like him or not, JPM's performance this year has been impressive. As for Burton, it's probably time him and his teammates went back to the drawing board and brought fast cars to the track, instead of ones that are just good enough to crack the top 10. Final thought - Burton's car owner should at least have the guts to announce how much Chevy is paying him, considering the fact that it is "borrowed" taxpayer money after all. 35. "That is what I mainly think about racing, but this race proved that with cars that really are not road race cars in any means, driver just can't race the track." I don't think this was true for the last several laps. Stewart had to rely on Kahne to make a mistake in order to be able to pass him. They weren't really racing each other, just racing the track. Looking back at the 2008 standings will show that Carl beat Jimmie by 16 points (despite the Las Vegas penalty) if the old points system (the only legitimate way of determining a champion was used). Plus I don't even need to mention that Carl's 2008 season was undoubtedly one of the best seasons this decade. And it's not just that, Carl has only two less wins than Matt despite having been in Cup for four and a half less seasons than him. In fact until this year they were actually tied with 16 wins a piece. And Matt has been anything but consistently good, he won the first two races this year and then completely fell off the map. So you tell me, is Matt really the best Roush driver anymore? 37. It was fascinating to see if Kasey Kahne, with nothing but horrible results in his previous road races, driving for a manufacturer in bankrupcy and currently being run by the federal government, driving for a team that has had more organizational shake ups than anyone, could beat Tony, who has won more road races than anyone else this decade in a Hendrick car. The racing itself wasn't that good though. If that were Tony and Jeff Gordon racing for the win, it wouldn't have been that interesting. It was just thrilling to see if Kasey would slip up. He didn't. 39. Dodge posted: 06.24.2009 - 2:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) GM is in the same position as Dodge though, in bankruptcy. Also, look at the point standings and then tell me who the top Roush driver is. 'Nuff said. It's the same story with Gordon and Johnson. "Kenseth has won 18 races over a period of 10 years, the same winning record as his rookie rival Dale Jr. Carl has won 16 races in about 5 years." If Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth started in Cup at the same time, you would have a clear argument. However, you do not because Carl came in with different circumstances. For all we know, Carl's success can be contributed to Matt Kenseth's previous success and track notes. "It's the same story with Gordon and Johnson. Gordon has the better record overall, but Johnson has won more races and has had more success since he came to Cup." This further illustrates my point above. I think a lot of Johnson's success can be contributed to Gordon's previous success. The team already has the experience and equipment with Gordon in order to put Johnson in a competitive ride. There's too many lurking variables for your argument to stick. 47. There wasn't much he could have done to finish any higher. 48. kup posted: 06.21.2010 - 8:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 3 - #47 Marcos Ambrose 6 - #42 Juan Pablo Montoya 11 - #55 Patrick Carpentier 12 - #13 Max Papis Maybe this IS a Record? 4 non-USA drivers in Top-15 in Cup race. 49. Jones picked up the 2nd last-place finish of his career in Sunday's Toyota / Save Mart 350 at the Infineon Raceway when his #04 Jim Beam / Menard's Toyota fell out with power steering problems after completing 2 of the race's 113 laps. Jones, a NASCAR Sprint Cup 'road ringer' with 26 series starts coming into Sunday's race, has worked closely with owner-driver Robby Gordon as a relief driver. Jones wasn't tabbed as a 'road ringer' for any of the other Sprint Cup teams coming into Sonoma, so Gordon fielded a second Toyota for Jones on Thursday. This made Jones a 'post-entry,' that is, even if he qualified, Jones would not score any points in Sunday's race because the entry was filed after the deadline had lapsed. A wild qualifying session on Friday saw full-time rookie Scott Speed slide off course in Turn 10 and fellow road racer Brian Simo blow the engine during their qualifying laps. This made Jones' lap of 91.425 mph good enough to beat five 'go-or-go-home' drivers, including Speed and Simo, granting Jones the 37th starting spot. When the green flag waved on Sunday, Jones made an unscheduled stop right after completing the first lap. After some repairs, Jones returned to the track, only to slow in the Esses and go behind the wall, having lost his power steering. 2009 last-place finish leader Dave Blaney went behind the wall on the same lap, but the lap Jones lost put him one lap behind Blaney and, thus, became the last-place finisher. It was the first last-place finish for Jones in almost five years, dating back to his first-ever last-place finish driving for Don Arnold in the 2004 Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono. In terms of laps completed, Jones has completed the fewest laps of any driver in any points race this season, besting Todd Bodine's three laps completed in this spring's Goody's Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville. (That finish, however, is still the season record holder for fewest miles completed). The race also marked the third time that the #04 has finished last in the 21 NASCAR Sprint Cup races held at the Infineon Raceway. The previous two last-place finishes occurred with ageless veteran Hershel McGriff behind the wheel in the 1990 and 1993 runnings. Jones and McGriff share a few other historical coincidences as a result of Sunday's race. The 1993 event was McGriff's final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start and, until now, that race was also the last time the #04 had qualified for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race in Sonoma. This same weekend when Jones got the #04 back into the show, McGriff attempted his return to NASCAR competition by trying to qualify for the Bennett Lane Winery 200, a NASCAR Camping World West Series race, also held at Infineon. 2009 RANKINGS 1st) Dave Blaney (3) 2nd) Mike Bliss, David Gilliland, Tony Raines (2) 3rd) Todd Bodine, Patrick Carpentier, P.J. An altercation at a New Hampshire-area hotel the following Friday effectively led to his dismissal from the job, and as of 2014 he hasn't surfaced in a NASCAR booth since. 53.
