Great run for Jr. Had a top 5 car for the majority of the day but was too loose at the end and wound up 8th. A big step in the right direction but there's still a lot of work to do. Once again Mark Martin runs around 20th for most of the day and makes a late race charge to finish 6th. 4. potatosalad48 posted: 04.19.2010 - 4:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Car 48 comes back from a flat tire to finish 2nd. Happy for Denny............because JJ didn't win. btw did Jimmie screw up in this race? Dale Jr. ran up front most of the day but off-cycle hurt him in the long run. If he stayied on cycle with the others he'd be up there. 2 tires hurt him also. Paul Menard had a top 15 car before the texas version of the big one toke him out. The first "real" test of the rear spoiler gets a passing grade from me. The race wasn't boring it had good racing all day. On too Talladega!!!!!!! (just for kicks, i'll make some popcorn. Just in case :P) 7. He only has two top tens this year but they're both wins and now he's into the top 12 in the standings. I'm really impressed. 8 drivers led at least 10 laps during the race, and Jeff Gordon led the most laps but the frantic racing between Stewart, Gordon, Edwards and Johnson ended up causing that big wreck. A lot of good cars got taken out which really helped out a lot of guys in the top ten. Kasey Kahne was nowhere for most of the race but managed 5th! The horrible luck for JPM continues, his 4th finish of 34th or worse is just killing him in the standings when he should be at least fighting for a Chase spot if not be in it right now. The wreck also knocked Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer and Carl Edwards out of the top 12 but it's still really close and only 8 races into the season. Dale Jr. had his best run in a long time but two tires cost him some spots late in the race. Jeff Burton fell back to 12th. I only watched the 2nd half of the race which was that long green flag run so I'm not sure how much of a difference the spoiler made over the wing. 8. Cfob posted: 04.19.2010 - 5:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Junior was surprisingly impressive. Tough break for Jeff Gordon. Martin Truex Jr. gets another top 10, happy to see that. Brad Keselowski gets another solid top 15 finish. I was actually pulling for Jimmie Johnson to win there at the end. Would've been better than Denny. And on a side note, DW kept mentioning how Denny staying in the car last week was supposed to show his crew he believes in them and stuff like that... But how exactly does it make up for all of the times Denny threw them under the bus in the last few years? 9. Jimmie was coming in a hurry. 88 car being loose didn't play much of a reason why he finish 8th. Dale was a setting duck with 2 tires on and being off cycle hurt his finish. 2 tires didn't work most of the race for the other teams that tried it including Tony Stewart. I think the old Jeff Gordon is starting to come back. What I saw between him and Johnson on the track was the Jeff Gordon I saw back in the mid to late 1990's. Tony Stewart caused the big wreck today with his car being loose with his team taking 2 ties. 11. dUDE gUY posted: 04.19.2010 - 5:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Denny Hamlin's second win of the year. Also his second top five, and top ten of the year. He's having a feast-or-famine start to 2010, as he hasn't finished better than 17th this year, aside from his wins of course. Martin Truex takes advantage of attrition and a lot of good cars wrecking to get his third top ten of the year. In 8 races he already has half the top tens and has matched the top fives he got all of last year. Where the heck did Mark Martin come from? Wasn't he a lap down at some point in the race? In any case it's a good finish for the 5 team. Junior ran a great race. Led more than a few laps, and was in the top five for the majority. That program seems to have pointed themselves in the right direction so far this year. Lastly, great runs for several good cars are ruined in a massive melee with 17 to go. Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Jamie McMurray Carl Edwards, Juan Montoya, Clint Bowyer and even Paul Menard had a great run ruined. What a shame. Oh well, that's racing. On to Talladega! 12. Jeff gave Johnson a tire problem after the two cars touched. What happened to him today was bad luck. What happened was Jeff had the best car, but teams ahead of him took 2 tires in a pit stop under caution. Stewart took 2 tires and went backwards and got loose and get Jeff and bunch other drivers including Carl Edwards. His season is shaping up to be the one of the strangest in recent memory however - no top ten starts, no finishes inside the top 15 other than the two wins. This was probably Dale Jr's best race with Lance from start to finish. 7th in points, 15 points out of fifth is pretty solid. This was the first time him and Jamie Mac led laps since Daytona. The NAPA car has more top tens in eight races than it did in a single season from 2007-2009. Career best finish at an unrestricted oval for Max Papis, best finish so far for Kevin Conway, both largely due to the wreck. Stewart's first pole in over 4 years ends up in a huge wreck near the end. 17. Talladega is doubtful because he had bad luck since his last win in 2007. I wish it was the old chase system when wins don't count anything. He only had 4 in his first 135 races so only Jimmie Johnson has been running better of late. I think Denny's starting to grow up and it's showing in the results. Jimmie Johnson gets his 28th career 2nd place finish and 78th top 2 finish in 299 career starts (26.1%, meaning he finished in the top 2 in one out of every 4 races. That's insane!) Kyle Busch got his first top five of the year in 3rd. Kurt Busch collected his 10th top ten in 15 Texas starts, only his 3rd top five but 2nd straight after winning last year's fall race. Kasey Kahne's 80th career top ten is his first in 8 races at Texas. Mark Martin's 4th top ten of the year makes it the first time that Rick Hendrick has ever had all 4 of his cars in the top 10 in the standings: Johnson 1st, Gordon 5th, Dale Jr. 7th and Martin 10th. Kevin Harvick already has 5 top tens this year after just 8 races. Last year it took him 26 races. Dale Jr.'s 3rd top ten of the year is his first in 7 races at Texas. At this point last year he was 19th in the standings. Martin Truex Jr. gets his 5th top ten in 10 Texas starts, the most he has at any one track. Greg Biffle's fourth 10th place finish of the year gives him the lead in top tens this year with 7. Ryan Newman had his 6th straight finish of 18th or better. Brad Keselowski's 4th straight top 20 finish bests Stremme's longest streak in 2009 driving the #12 Penske car. David Ragan gets his best finish of the season in 15th. Meanwhile his teammates have combined for 17 top tens in 24 starts. Marcos Ambrose finishes in the top 20 for the 5th time in 6 races. Elliott Sadler finishes in the top 20 for just the 3rd time this season. Sam Hornish Jr. ties a career high with his 3rd straight top 20 finish. Max Papis gets his best career non-plate oval finish in 22nd. Travis Kvapil's 24th place finish with a lap led is enough to pass 26th place Robby Gordon for 35th in the owners standings; the #34 is now just one point ahead of the #7. Kevin Conway gets just his 2nd top 30 finish in 7 races. He was the only rookie in the race. Jeff Gordon leads the most laps in a race for the 2nd time this season and is now up to 2nd in laps led on the year. Brian Vickers suffers his 2nd straight finish in the 30's; 37th at Phoenix and now 38th at Texas. Braun Racing qualified for just their 3rd Cup race (made 2 starts with Shane Hmiel in 2005) with Reed Sorenson but finished 39th due to electrical problems. Don't know if it was a S&P or not. 22. Johnson has the audacity to complain about rough driving from Gordon...if that's what he considers rough racing, I demand him to hand back each and everyone of his four championships. With the 48 car trimmed and primed every weekend as the super hotrod on the track, Johnson literally has no competition, ultimately prompting such an arrogant response and his tendencies to whine whenever he "god forbids" is passed by another car on the track. In my personal opinion, Johnson is not even in the top 10 in pure driver skill and ability out on the track. Kudos to Jeff for finally realizing, or rather letting out his thoughts, on how Johnson is seemingly handed everything on a silver platter and how under the faux facade that Johnson puts on for the media, is a mediocre driver with little respect for the sport of racing. He's one of 8 full time drivers not to lead a lap: Marcos Ambrose Sam Hornish Jr. David Reutimann Regan Smith Max Papis Bobby Labonte Kevin Conway 59. Brad to the #2, Kurt to the #22, and I'm assuming they are dropping the #12. 62. martin-n-rusty posted: 04.21.2010 - 10:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think part of it, since Miller is going to sponsor Brad next season, and to keep the tradition of the Miller sponsorship on the 2 car going, are essentially switching around car numbers. I have heard though the 12 will still exist, that #77 will be gone. 63. Kit posted: 04.21.2010 - 11:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Makes sense, but why did they pick Brad over Kurt? 64. But then, who knows? 65. DaleSrFanForever posted: 04.22.2010 - 1:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think its because Kurt is still extremely unpopular among fans. Seeing Kurt in that car doesn't really make people want to buy Miller Lite. They're hoping Brad will. Especially if he keeps pissing off the drivers that fans mostly hate. 66. It sounds like sponsors picking and choosing their drivers, and with Miller Lite so synonymous with the #2 they needed to do the number swap. Kurt's a two-faced jerk anyways, Miller Lite is better off with anyone else. 67. This is probably the correct answer. Kurt Busch was such a immature douche when he started out, that even though he has stayed out of trouble the past few years and just raced, I'm sure a lot of people, myself included, are still lukewarm about him. I never really cared for him being in Rusty's car. Sticking Brad in Rusty's old car is a throwback to the 80s. 68. They want to put Keselowski in the Miller car because of marketing. He is much more marketable and exciting to watch than Kurt. Kurt is just another run-of-the-mill driver nowadays and Brad is agressive, and one of my personal favorites to watch. About the haters, the only drivers I "troll" on are Jimmie Johnson, Kurt's younger, less mature, less talented brother, Danica Patrick, start and parkers, and rolling roadblocks/wrecking balls that don't belong in the sport. That leaves around 38 drivers in Cup fields and 32 drivers in Nationwide series fields that I don't "troll" on. 69. Joey Logano is proof of that. You act like Joey has little talent, but he actually has some talent. The only reason Joey isn't in the top 12 is the fact he was victim in 2 crashes that Joey had no where to go. Joey was an innocent victim in the Brad/Carl Edwards crash at Atlanta. Joey was a victim in the big one at Texas that the crash started with top car cars. 71. His MORE talented, less mature brother is the ultimate sponsor's nightmare. But that doesn't mean that Kurt is exactly a sponsor's friend. He has been putting up a good public front lately, but it is beyond fake and his in car radio transmissions show he is as bad as ever. Yes, from an image standpoint, Kurt compares better than Kyle, but so does everyone else. 73.
