Denny Hamlin pulled away from the field to win, on the final lap Kasey Kahne was attempting to pass him teammate AJ Allmendinger, when AJ blocked him too low causing Kahne to clip the grass and go flying straight into the wall causing a huge crash. Sam Hornish, Jr. was leading this race with 15 to go, it was neat seeing Sam battling it out for the win down the stretch, but unfortunatly he couldn't hold on and ended up falling back to 11th. 4. Then Denny blow by him and won. So i guess Sam can drive. (maybe) :P While the Harvick Joey thing was 50-50 either way blame wise. Harvick having his crew protect him for Joey was laughable and pathetic. Whats wrong Harvick? Are you not a man anymore? BTW Joeys post race comment was funny as hell. Nice shot Joey. I hope you put Happy in the wall next week. Robby Gordon was in Mexico running the Baja and his team missed the race. Kevin Conslows team switched owners points to get him in and got out Q'ed by THE WHOLE FIELD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ted did the best he could do with what RGs team gave him but FRM screwed Ted and Terry with that move. Yes Robby should have been there to Q his car but whatever. 5. Now for the bad... What in hell was Allmendinger thinking running Kasey all the way to the grass like that,I know it's the last lap but show some freaking common sense...he ruined the days of alot of guys including some like Ambrose that needed and were having good runs. Dear Tom Logano...YOUR SON IS A GROWN MAN NOT A SIX-YEAR-OLD!!!!HE DOESN'T NEED YOU TO FIGHT HIS BATTLES FOR HIM OR FOR YOU TO EGG HIM ON EVERYTIME HE GETS INTO A SCARP WITH ANOTHER DRIVER!!!!Yes Harvick wrecking him was wrong but come on, stay the hell out of it and let your son handle it himself.NA$CAR needs to pull his hard card and run it through a paper shredder this time....chirst on a cracker 7. First Cup start (and park) for Chad McCumbee since Homestead in 2008. Why did Michael McDowell commute between Nashville and Pocono just to do a start and park on the Cup side? It would make more sense for McDowell to just focus on the car he actually races in the Nationwide series and let someone else start and park the Cup car. Ted Musgrave did a good job by giving us a Robby Gordon free race. Maybe Robby should worry more about his Cup car instead of being off somewhere else racing on qualifying day. Only bad part of the 7 car not making the race is that another start and park made the race. 10. Cooper posted: 06.06.2010 - 9:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The accident on the last lap involved: #24,#19,#47,#5,#16,#9,#6,#56,#26,#39 It was triggered when A.J. Allmendinger threw a massive block against his teammate pushing him into the grass. A lot of drivers drove like idiots in the race. AJ with his bogus three lane block David Ragan forgot to turn left on lap 168, sending Jamie McMurray into the wall. and Kevin with his arrogant spin out of Joey with about 1 to go. In addition the race was full of green flag runs, including one of 78 laps and three rounds of green flag pit stops. The running order was mixed up with about 30-40 to go with multiple strategies and yellows. Once everything circled out, Sam Hornish found himself in the lead with just 13 to go. Eventually he fell to 11th because of the GWC. Joey Logano who was spun out by Kevin, went from 30th to 13th in 1.5 laps, half of the positions gained by passing. Another interesting tidbit, Brad who was 2 laps down with 24 to go, salvages a 21st(should be 20th because he was ahead of Scott Speed when the big one was over)place finish when he was running 32nd-35th all day because of a pit road penalty for a missing lug-nut. Kevin Conway was also semi-competitive as he was only a lap down about halfway through the race, but eventually finished his traditional 35th place. The race was delayed by about 2 hours due to a 10 minute downpour at about 1:15pm.(Green Flag time). Marcos Ambrose must be cursed by the wicked, evil kangaroo that has haunted him all year long, as a top 15 run was spoiled on the last lap. The racing on the restarts was spectacular as the field ran 3 and 4 wide for about 5 laps. After the restarts everything froze, and no one could make a pass. Overall the race was very boring until 40 to go, when it went from boring to confusing and interesting because of debris on the long pond straightaway. Pocono has a history of weird strategies and endings and it wasn't different today. 11. joey2448 posted: 06.06.2010 - 9:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) i predicted the right winner for the second race in a row! http://joey2448.wordpress.com/2010/06/04/joeys-pick-of-the-week-pocono/ 12. This rare race that Sam didn't crash in. Joey should be fighting his own battles at his age. Joey is 20 years old and Joey isn't going anywhere in Nascar if he doesn't start to stand up for himself. Joey is a grown man now, not a child. If Joey doesn't stand up for himself, he will continue to be an easy target for other drivers. I think Tom Logano's hard card needs to be taken away for the next 108 Nationwide and cup races combined because it is getting out of hand for him being in Joey's battles outside of the race car. 13. No action whatsoever, the only two cautions to that point were a competition caution and for debris. But things picked up in the end. It was neating seeing Hornish battling with the leaders at the end, it's too bad for him the caution came out and he didn't even get a top 10 finish. Clint Bowyer looked like the car to beat early, but after his crew lost him the lead on pit road, he never really contended again. The Gibbs cars were the class of the field, especially Hamlin. Really sad to see Bobby Labonte having to start and park. I almost wish he would hang up his helmet, it's sad to see what his career has become. 15. Kevin Harvick has always been an arrogant jerk ever since his days in Busch and his beef with Greg Biffle. He never takes responsibility for his own actions. He's taken out Tony Stewart, Joey Logano and plenty of other drivers. If he wasn't Dale's replacement he'd have more haters than he does, but everyone fell in love with him from day 1 when he ran well in replacing everyone's hero. Tony Stewart's cars are performing like dung this year. He has no handle, no power and no consistancy. He got a huge break today. In no way was he a 3rd place car, more like 13th place car. I'm actually going to defend AJ a bit - Kasey was coming with a ton of steam (more than AJ likely expected) and AJ actually began to turn to the right in the last moments, looks like Kasey just assumed AJ was going to keep putting him in the grass and drove there on his own volition. Still not the smartest move by AJ. I actually like what Wally said about Logano. Joey does need to start shoving people around a little bit. He did a good job showing his frustration without doing something stupid. However, having his father egg him on was the stupidest thing I've seen in racing. Brad K's runs of top-20s ends with a 21st. In terms of the spin, Harvick was way out of line. Yes, I am all for letting them race, but if you are going to spin out someone, find a way to make it look like a racing incident, not make it look obvious. I say Logano should show Harvick some proper revenge at Michigan. In terms of Kevin Conway. He might be bringing a sponsor, but jeezus, NASCAR, pull his ass off the track. He is nothing more than a moving chicane, and can only get into the field by moving around and getting on a car that is in the points. FRM is better off either keeping him out of a car, not unless Extenze is paying that much to the team Kevin - Some of us has known that about Harvick for years. Someone will knock him on his punk ass soon. 35. Yes, there was a bunch of smoke, and spun it across, but in the past, before NASCAR went caution crazy with some of these spins, that would of been green still. Also, there was quite a bit of wind at the speedway, so it would of blown away quickly instead of linger around. I think Harvick could have gave Logano a little more room, but it was at the end of the race so he elected not to. Kyle Petty even retracted his comment about how Harvick was at fault in the beginning. AJ Allmendinger on the other hand should probably be put a lap behind all the cars that crashed on the last lap. And AJ Allmendinger nipped David Ragan and Kevin Harvick at the end for dumbest move of the race. Kurt Busch lost a lap early in the race but he was one of the guys who took advantage of the long Pocono track by taking the wave around and then pitting first chance he got after the restart; a few guys did it and it was pretty much a free lap back, but I don't think many other teams did it when they had the chances. That'll probably change in the 2nd Pocono race. Tony Stewart was the big winner out of the guys who used pit strategy to get out front, he finished 3rd. And the car didn't look too bad, I don't know if they were running better at the end or if cleaner air was the big difference. He's just 1 point behind 12th place Clint Bowyer who knocked Ryan Newman out of a Chase spot. JPM finished 8th but didn't gain any ground, he's still over 170 points out. "I am dying to see the FRM cars fall out of the top 35 so Conway can't just switch cars so he can be in the way every week." No chance of that happening, with Robby missing the race the #37 has 60 points on the #7. The #26 team is 37th, 147 behind, and 38th is the #36 which is over 300 points back. After 14 races the most top fives any driver has is only 6, Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson. 10 drivers have at least 4 top fives with 8 of them currently sitting in the Chase; the only exceptions are Jamie McMurray and JPM who're 18th and 20th. 62. Another win this year would also make him just the 3rd driver to win 3 in a row at Pocono (Tim Richmond 1986-87 and Bobby Allison 1982-83). Denny's the quickest to ever get to 4 wins at Pocono in 9 starts, beating out Tim Richmond who did it in 13 starts. But he'll have no problem getting to 5 wins quicker than Bill Elliott who needed 42 starts to get win #5 in 2002. It's JGR's 83rd career Cup win and 8th at Pocono which is their 2nd most wins at any track (9 wins at Atlanta). Hamlin has 4 since 2006, Tony Stewart has 1 (2003) and Bobby Labonte has 3 (sweep in 1999, one in 2001). Kyle Busch became the youngest driver to reach 200 Cup starts, winning his 7th career Cup pole and making it a JGR 1-2 for the 2nd time in 2010. His 8th straight top ten is a new career best, and in that stretch he's gone from 16th to 2nd in the standings. It's also just his 2nd top five in 11 starts at Pocono. Tony Stewart's 3rd means he just need 4 more to reach the 150 milestone mark. It's his 17th top ten in 23 Pocono starts, 4th straight and 9th in his last 10 races. Kevin Harvick gets just his 3rd top five in 18 Pocono races but all in his last 8. 4th ties his career best at Pocono. Jimmie Johnson gets his first top five in the last 6 races. Jeff Burton finishes in the top 10 for the 4th time in the last 5 races after just 2 in the first 9 races of 2010. It's his 16th top ten in 33 Pocono starts. JPM gets his 3rd straight top ten at Pocono, tying his longest T10 streak at any track (3 top tens in 3 starts at Infineon). Clint Bowyer's 59 laps led is the most he's led in a race since leading 81 at Bristol in March of 2008. AJ Allmendinger gets his 10th career top ten in his 94th career start, but it's his first top 10 in the last 10 start. AJ's top tens have come at 10 different tracks. Sam Hornish Jr. led a career-high 16 laps and an 11th place finish is his best of the season. Carl Edwards has 12 finishes of 16th or better in 14 races this season. Ryan Newman and David Reutimann finish in the top 15 for a 5th and 6th straight race respectively. After going 6 races without a top 20 finish, Paul Menard has 2 in a row with 8th at Charlotte and 16th here. Regan Smith gets his 3rd top 20 finish in the last 4 races. 5 of his 12 career top 20 finishes have come this season. Scott Speed gets his first top 20 finish in the last 5 races. 63. He's 9/17 in the summer Daytona race for Top 10's, and of the 4 RP races the Coke Zero 400 is always the most calm so, he'll get that top 10. I only now realized he's in a slump at the Restrictor Plate tracks. Everytime I watch the RP races he's always contending... but eventually he has to get lucky. I'm still sticking with my prediction that he get's the Top 10's at Sonoma and Daytona. Let's see if I'm right. And you guys, this isn't the week to pick on Kevin Conway. If you ever get the chance to watch the race again you'll see he was actually competitive until lap 130 when... #34, 131, Excessive speed EXITING the pits, Pass Thru #34, 133, Excessive speed EXITING the pits, Stop & Go He actually had some competitive speed on the racetrack. 64. I don't care if you're name is Kevin Conway or Kevin Harvick, if you don't have the speed(or even if you have bad luck), you shouldn't be racing. Just take the fastest 43 cars and race. Most weeks the big names will have no problem getting in anyway. The 77 team is really learning how to take advantage of Pocono strategy. The last 3 races here they've had 15th-20th place cars but managed to finish 10th(full mileage), 4th(staying out late and getting cautions), and 11th(staying out late, leading, and getting a few cautions). As a result, they've racked up the 6th most points at the track in the last 2 seasons. Not bad considering the mess Hornish was at Pocono in his first race. I'd expect them to be a threat for another top 10 here in August. 65. 18fan posted: 06.07.2010 - 6:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) First time Harvick had even led a lap at Pocono. 66. And they need to just yank his Dad's hard card and make him watch from the stands. His act is getting ridiculous. Nothing like a "little league Dad" in stock car racing's highest series. But that is another part of Joey's problem. He has been coddled from day one. He has never had to struggle with anything. And now that he is struggling with a bully, he is throwing childish pit road tantrums instead of wrecking Harvick in an actual race. As far as Harvick, I guess he feels the need to get all the publicity he can while being the points leader while it lasts. Cause once the cha$e starts, the 48, 24, 11, 18, and 2 are gonna blow him off the track. He has nowhere near the speed of those teams. At least one of them will put 10 really good races together and he won't even be close come Homestead. I still say it's JJ's to lose. Yes, the 11 and 18 are fast, but Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin are still Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin. And when the going gets tough, that is NOT a good thing. 67. Harvick's conservative strategy will doom him to a 4th to 6th place points finish. DSFF, in your opinion, why does RCR race so conservatively? Is it simply because they're lacking speed, or are they stubbornly clinging to an outdated team philosophy? From an outsider's perspective, it just doesn't make any sense. It seems like Richard is happy to watch his cars finish 8th-9th-10th every week, which goes against the very purpose and spirit of racing. 68. jensenators posted: 06.07.2010 - 10:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) the only thing i was thinking when the kahne crash happened is, is that the only place on any nascar track that doesnt have a fence? he almost went jimmy horton on us. 69. jensenators posted: 06.07.2010 - 10:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) i feel bad for robby gordon, but he did it to himself. if his car wasnt illegal at darlington and lost 25 points he would have been in the top 35 for this race. 70. The only way it should be the fastest 43 is if they bring back 2nd round qualifying. The old provisional system was fine, except there were too many provisionals. Back when RCR was winning and contending for championships ('86-'96) the equipment was a lot less reliable. You had two options: Run really fast and break equipment in about 4 or 5 races or run slower and get more consistent finishes. RCR chose to run slower and mostly avoid mechanical issues BUT they had an ace in the hole: Dale Earnhardt. He didn't need the fastest car. He could carry them to 4-6 wins per year (back when they only ran 29 races a year), and approach or even pass the double digit win barrier when they were making really good motors ('87 and '90). He made up the speed differential, getting enough wins, bonus points, and Top 5s to push them over the top. They don't have that anymore. They are still unwilling to push the edge, and although all 3 of their drivers are talented, they can't push them over the top the way Dale did. So when they are on, they can Top 10 you like crazy, but teams like the 48 are winning and getting Top 3s and basically leaving RCR in their dust. Since 2007 started, they only have 6 wins total. Only Bowyer's '07 Loudon win was a dominating win in that stretch. They are also notoriously prone to being left behind when setups change. So the fact they are running so well now isn't really a good sign. 75. But at some point, if he really wants to get his point across, he is gonna have to put Harvick in the wall. These off track skirmishes will do as much good for Joey as they did for Harvick when he did it to Biffle (who has more wins than him), Rudd (who has more wins than him), Kahne (one less win despite 3 less years and much crappier equipment), Kenseth (more wins and a championship), Edwards (more wins in less time) etc. He looks just as stupid as Kevin did all those times. BTW, ever notice how Kevin never goes after a Top dog? He went after Biff when he was still a Busch driver and Kevin had been in Cup over a year. He went after Coy Gibbs who was never a factor in anything anywhere. He went after Rudd who was at the tail end of his career with a dying Wood Brothers team. He went after Kahne when he was a rookie. He went after Nemechek who never had a good ride. He went after Montoya when he was a rookie. And now he is going after Joey who isn't really a threat. The only time he went after somebody higher than him on the racing food chain, defending champ Kenseth in '04, he got totally pwned when Kenseth spun him back out, taking him from a Top 10 to a 20th place finish. Afterwards Kevin and Richard desperately tried to claim Kenseth brake checked him and spun himself out. That has to be the dumbest excuse I have heard in my life. Unfortunately, he ended up taking almost everyone outside of the top-ten (Newman, Truex, Ambrose and Biffle, who had all performed well on the day) with him while trying to force the issue. Given Kahne's post-race comments, it doesn't appear that Richard Petty (with Gillet, Evernham, Yates [and Newman, Haas, Lanigan -- wait, those three pulled out]) Motorsports is cultivating a particularly hospitable atmosphere. Clint was relentlessly lapping cars up to the 20th place car, debris caution comes out, he loses lead and doesn't get it back in the second half of the race. Then you had a bunch of other cautions coming with 40 to go, and top 15 cars like Gordon, Earnhardt Jr, Biffle end up in the back when they had no business being there. I don't know who's dumber; Allmendinger for blocking or Kahne for continuing to force the issue, but the real problem is with the track having shrubs instead of a catchfence on the backstretch. One of motor racing's greatest facets is that it brings people -- particularly fathers and sons -- together, but sooner or later, as in life, parents have to accept their children are no longer dependent on them. I believe it was Ed Hinton who wrote that Jeff Gordon's stepfather had difficulty adjusting when he was no longer needed, and Tom Logano might feel the same way. However, to be quite honest, if you're able enough to reach the highest levels of your profession at such a young age, you don't need an intruding Anthony Hamilton or Tom Logano father figure approving your every move. When I began playing high school golf it was made clear to us that family or friends could watch our matches if we so chose. My father taught me everything he knew about the game and took a lot of pride in my performance, given how poor the rest of my team was, but also made it a point to restrict his presence to the car. He gave me something greater than love those years, and that's respect -- he simply knew it would be better for both of us if I was left alone at and on the course during competition, and I never had to uncomfortably explain this fact to him. Some couldn't let go; I still remember a player from Tiverton at Montaup my senior year who had his father running through forests trying to unobtrusively watch our group. I hit a large slice on five en route to a scrambling par and thought he was a stalker when I ran into him. Logano's maturity is rightfully being called into question, and his father's continued presence has become an impediment to his credibility. If Tom truly wants his son to excel, he needs to recognize Joey's independence and become a spectator like the rest of us. If he is unwilling to do that, then Logano needs to show poise and maturity and firmly tell his father that, while he's forever grateful, he no longer needs him in his career. How can he develop as a Cup driver if he is incapable of performing that simple act? Once his father is no longer making a spectacle of himself, then Logano can prove his resolve; but as long as his father is seen as his compass, Logano is not going to be taken seriously by anyone. That's a harsh truth both are going to have to confront sooner rather than later. 81. DaleSrFanForever posted: 06.08.2010 - 9:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Personally, I love Kyle's commentary.
