Dale Earnhardt Jr. gets his best finish since Daytona. I still say it is Jimmie John's Chase to lose. He needs 2 more bad finishes of 25th or worst to be in danger of not winning the chase. 5. joey2448 posted: 09.19.2010 - 6:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) same thing happened to tony at this track in 1999...ran outta gas with two to go. if jimmie has another bad finish, then this chase will be really interesting. after a so-so season thus far, clint bowyer may be the guy who goes on a 10-race tear. 6. joey2448 posted: 09.19.2010 - 6:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) oh yea, and JUNIOR!!!! 7. The man is an underachiever as a driver nowdays. What happened was a driver that had a top 10 car that finished 4th because drivers ran out of gas. The fact someone get existed over Dale Jr. getting his first top 5 since summer Daytona race, that is pretty pathetic to me considering the fact that he had at least 10 top 5's in a year for 5 years of his cup career. Dale didn't ever got a top 10 after before today. I know 3 top 5's and 7 top 10's are better than last year, but he still isn't were he should. Take a look at last weeks race at Richmond. Dale won there 3 times in his career, but he was really off the pace at last weeks race. The only good thing that Dale Jr. fan should look at this race is the fact, he didn't fade near the end unlike most races since he joined Hendrick. 10. The 48 made a horrible mistake with a loose tire late in the race, finished 25th, and is still less than 100 points out with 9 races to go. This is the cool thing about picking JJ to win it: If he wins, then I picked right. If he doesn't, Thank God. Clint breaks a 2 and 1/2 year winless streak. At Dega, Harvick broke a 3+ year winless streak. Your turn Burton. And I would like to compliment Tony on his interview today. I have slammed him for his attitude constantly, but that was a very mature and stoic interview. 11. However, it is ridiculous however that someone who should be 11th without a prayer of winning the championship is now hunting the point lead, all because of that magic reset button that is the chase. Dale Jr finally gets a top 5 at a track not named Daytona. Proof that when you give him a car without some experimental rear end setup (last week at Richmond) he can still finish well with it. Sideways Sam's first top 10 of the year leaves only three drivers who have run all 27 races without a top 10 - Labonte, Regan Smith, and the polesitter for this race. Guess which one of them doesn't drive for an underfunded single car effort? 14. JakeTV370 posted: 09.19.2010 - 8:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This race was a whole lot better than last week. Clint ran a good race, but probably got lucky there at the end with Tony running out of fuel. Dale Jr gets a top-5 at a non-plate track for the first time this year. He has regressed a lot even since 2008. At least in '08, he was in position to win races. He's rarely done that over the past year and a half. Overall, a very good race. It's a good thing for Bowyer that this race wasn't 301 laps like the June race. Bowyer leads more than 100 laps in a race for the second time (Loudon 2007) in his career and both times he won the race. Bowyer led more laps in this race than he had in the first 26 races combined. 19. This race was non-stop entertainment. I've never been disappointed with attending a race at Loudon. From "Tiregate" in August of '98, to Stewart's heartbreak in June of '99, to Front Row Joe's first win in September of '99, and now today.......I've YET to attend a dull race there. 22. hyperacti posted: 09.19.2010 - 10:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) LOL @ the shot at the end where Bowyer was doing burnouts and Stewart was limping his empty car across the line. Eric posted: 09.19.2010 - 10:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Josh F, One of the factors for Mark Martin not being the same driver is the fact Rick Hendrick switched some key members from the 5 and the 88 team in an effort to make Dale Earnhardt Jr. more competitive. Rick even gave the 88 team the 5 teams engineer. That caused the 5 car being a weaker team this year because the 88 team had weak links in personal wise without counting the driver. There is 3 factors combined with the personal changes that made the team. Mark and the 5 were distracted by the Kasey Khane Signing. Mark's season really went downhill after Talladega. I believe the Kasey Khane signing happened around that since it was a distraction for a few months after that signing because no one knew what will happen to Kasey in 2011. Mark admitted that the team had problems making the handling of the car better. The other issue is Hendrick Motorsports isn't as strong as they were last year. Hendrick was strong out the gate this year, but the organization as a whole became weaker around May. It isn't all caused by the 48 team self destructing either. 24. Congrats to a loyal sponsor. Denny showed that he wouldn't implode when a race doesn't quite start his way. His teammate, conversely, does and stuffs a car in the fence a few times that probably could have finished a few positions higher. Congrats to Steve Letarte for another /amazing/ pit call. Bringing JG on pit road late in the race was a good idea but he had so much room between him and the next person to come in and they had to pit for 4-5 seconds anyway, I have no idea why slapping at least two tires on the car would have been a bad idea. Denny showed at the end that even a little bit of fresh rubber would have helped. And I agree with #22, that was pretty much one of the most "a picture tells a thousand words" images I've ever seen in racing. 25. 18fan posted: 09.19.2010 - 11:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) One of the rare races that the dominant car is getting outrun and the win falls into his lap, but Bowyer did a good job being in position to win and not overdrive his car to try to run down Tony. Brad Keselowski won the pole, but he wasn't the Penske driver who got his first top 10 of the year. I'm rooting for 10 different winners in the 10 chase races, 9 top 5s in the remaining 9 races for Jeff Gordon to win the championship with no wins. I think that would be really funny. 26. I liked both races. The cautions at the end weren't due to a phony debris caution. Mark Martin blew a tire in the straightaway which warranted a legit caution. Then the wrecks started happening. AJ ran out of gas while coming in to pit from the 3rd or 4th position which trapped him a lap down. This was also Clint's 25th career top five in 172 Cup starts. RCR recorded it's 400th and 401st top five in Cup with Clint winning and Harvick finishing 5th. It's RCR's 93rd Cup win. Denny Hamlin has back-to-back top fives for the first time since his back-to-back wins at Pocono and Michigan in June. It's Denny's 10th career runner-up finish. Denny and Clint finished 1-2 in the ROTY standings in 2006, but the roles are reversed as Clint and Denny are currently 1-2 in the drivers standings. Jamie McMurray's 8th top five of the year puts him just one behind his career high of 9, set back in 2004. This is just the 2nd time in the last 5 seasons that he's had at least 10 top tens in a season. Dale Earnhardt Jr. gets his first non-RP top five since Michigan in August of 2009. But Dale Jr.'s now surpassed both his top five and top ten totals from that season. It's his 10th top ten in 23 Loudon starts. Kevin Harvick ends up with 5th place finishes in both Loudon races for the season; he has 5 top fives and 11 top tens in 20 Loudon starts. Jeff Gordon scores his first top ten in the last 5 races, his 18th in 32 Loudon starts. David Reutimann gets his first stand-alone top ten finish of the season in 7th, his 20th career top ten in 126 Cup starts. It's his 2nd top ten in 8 Loudon starts. Ryan Newman has 3 top tens in the last 4 races after picking up 12th top ten in 18 starts in Loudon. Kyle Busch hit a milestone with his 100th career top ten in 213 Cup starts. His top 10 % of 46.95% ranks him 40th all time, 8th among active drivers. Sam Hornish Jr. ends his 36 race top 10 drought with a 10th place finish. He'll make his 100th career Cup start this weekend at Dover. Brad Keselowski won his first career Cup pole for this race, the first pole by the #12 team since Ryan Newman at Phoenix in April of 2008. Between credibility issues (fake cautions, socialist rules like lucky dogs and wave arounds), bad races, and drivers that are either boring as hell (JJ, Denny) or complete jerks (Kyle, Harvick), not much to care about. Why can't there be more Jamie McMurrays out there? He has his own personality which is interesting and engaging (albeit a bit dainty, but I'll take it), while being appreciative of his place in the sport not doing anything unlikeable. Clint Bowyer went from 12th to 2nd, back to 12th in 4 days. We can stick a fork in him. His only 2 tracks he is more than mediocre at (Loudon and Richmond) are over, and he is now 150+ points back. No, Carl was only fined 100 points for the infraction (and still scored more points than anyone else). The other times a team has been docked 150 points were the 66/70 teams during the 2008 Coke 600 weekend for their wing mountings, and the 83 after the fall Martinsville race that year for sheet metal thickness. 59. Childress has stated that the reason why the car was found to be illegal is that when the tow truck came to push him to victory lane, it hit hard enough and plus, drivers were bumping Clint in congratulations on the win. The amount the #33 car was illegal by was 1/16th of an inch. If they were close to begin with then it might hold water. But it'll all be moot because they won't win their appeal anyways. 64. Considering the 28% decline in TV ratings from this race last year, I think a lot of fans feel the same way." New Hampshire was on ESPN this year, compared to ABC last year. The switch from network to cable would explain most of the the decrease in the ratings, but I imagine there would've been a ratings drop anyways if the race was still on ABC. 65. Waltrip was fined only 100 points, and the 9 and 19 were fined 25 and 50 points. Truex was fined 150 points during the July Daytona race in 2008 for some illegal roof modifications. He lost another 50 points during the 2009 fall Texas race as well, LOL. 66. DaleSrFanForever posted: 09.23.2010 - 6:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah, RCR's explanation is pretty weak. But then again, this is the same organization that tried to claim Matt Kenseth spun himself out at Pocono in '04, and that it had nothing to do with Harvick knocking the shit out of him. 67. His roof being too low in victory lane at California was merely a fine, and they didn't take away points there. 68. The posts have increased a lot since the penalty. Who says NASCAR doesn't care about the fans... 69. I'm sort of taking the same approach. Dover, I think, will be ugly for those of us who want to see somebody besides JJ win the Cup again. He decimated the field at both Dover races last year, and would have done the same in the Spring had he not sped on pit road. After his pass through penalty he was .3 seconds per lap faster than Kyle. And he's on the pole for this one (#1 pit stall, HUGE at Dover, plus excellent track position). He'll probably be within 50 points of Hamlin after this one with Kansas, Cali, and Charlotte coming up. Guess who that favors? Then it is Martinsville where even if Denny wins, JJ will be no worse than 3rd (this is all, of course, barring disaster). 76. 18fan posted: 09.26.2010 - 3:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) DSFF, remember Denny had an excellent shot of winning both California and Charlotte last year. He crashed himself at California, right in front of where I was sitting, and blew the engine at Charlotte. 77. 18fan posted: 02.25.2011 - 10:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 100th top 10 for Kyle Busch 78. Bowyer's win here made him the first Cup driver to take a NHMS checkered flag while crossing the track's new Granite Stripe. As a tribute to IMS' Yard of Bricks the track installed a six-inch thick, two-foot wide strip of New Hampshire granite into the racing surface to serve as its new start-finish line during the run up to this race. 80.
