I don't care that he got spun, that was a racing deal, it appeared that Reut got off the gas which Kyle didn't expect. Hopefully at Martinsville at the end of the month Kyle will dump the scumbag Reutimann. 2. potatosalad48 posted: 10.03.2010 - 5:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The same deal with Keselowski and Edwards happened with Reutimann and Kyle Busch. If not for him, Roush wouldn't have any wins at all this season. I'm glad he had such a big lead when he did because Jimmie would have passed him if he were close enough, and the last thing I want to see is another JJ victory. Good top-10 finishes for Paul Menard and AJ Allmendinger. Allmendinger is having a career year as this was his 7th top-10 of the year and second in a row. David Reutimann spins himself out trying to spin out Kyle Busch in retaliation for the earlier spin after Busch made contact with Reutimann's back bumper. I like David, but I had to giggle at that. It seems he has no idea how to retaliate against someone. Looks like Coach Gibbs had a heated discussion with Kyle after the race too. 4. First of all, the radio broadcasters are SO much better than the TV analysts. But they never really clued us into the whole Kyle/Reut thing. I had to go to NASCAR's web site to see what happened. Here is my take: Obviously my disdain for Kyle is something I have made zero attempt to hide, so I am biased on this. So I'll let somebody else make my point for me" "Retaliation is weak, but I won't cry any tears for Kyle. Kyle retaliates even when the other party wasn't at fault in the first place. Kyle doesn't owe Reutimann anything." I'll add this: You can only keep adding so many enemies before it jumps up to bite you. Oh and the points? After Loudon the #48 team was 92 points back. 2 races later they are leading. And the next three races? Cali (5 wins, including the last 2 and 4 of the last 6), Charlotte (any explanation necessary?), and Martinsville (6 wins). They will have such a cushion by the time they get to what is hands down JJ's worst track, Dega (even though his last 3 cha$e races there have been good finishes), it won't matter. Somebody call up Don Meredith: "Turn the lights out......" (Is Don Meredith still alive?) 13. All the folks who called him a no talent hack just for having his family's company sponsor him can pretty much suck it now. Unlike Jamie Mac, Paul held the lead for quite a bit on his old tires before he was run down. Slugger has developed a very solid package for the intermediate tracks on the #98 team, and its good that he's going to RCR next year. If anyone remembers, Slugger was the same guy who had Michael Waltrip in the top 5 in points in 2003. Brad K has only one more mediocre race to go before tying Stremme's mark of 33 consecutive races in the #12 without a top 10 finish. Come on Brad, you can do it, I know you can! This is Biffle's 4th straight top 3 finish at Kansas. 14. 18fan posted: 10.03.2010 - 6:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Here's my unbiased (I hope) take on the Reutimann-Busch incident: David was up about a half a lane in the corner and Kyle tried to stick his nose in. They got together, and David spun and hit the wall. Then, while David is 10 laps down, he decides to get his revenge. Kyle's on his outside, so David intentionally turns to the right to wreck Kyle and damages the #18's handling, and spinning himself out in the process. The only problem I had with the whole thing was that David was 10 laps down and Kyle was on the lead lap. I was also pissed off about the fact that nothing was done to Reutimann after the incident. I viewed it similar to the James Buescher-Jason Leffler incident earlier this year, and Leffler was parked after retaliating. NASCAR set precedent by parking Leffler, but does absolutely nothing to Reutimann, another reason they are losing fans. Menard was actually running second before the last pit stop, but his crew had a 16 second stop that cost him six positions. Matt Kenseth had led 35 laps in 2010 before leading 26 today. 9 drivers within 101 points of the lead. Hopefully it stays this way all throughout, but if it doesn't and JJ is way ahead, I hope there is a really good battle from 2nd through about 6th or 7th. 15. Busch admitted hitting him was unintentional and in the replay you can tell Busch gets out of the gas to try and avoid contact. So of course the appropriate retaliation is to ruin 28 weeks of work for Busch. And I'm sure none of the Kyle Busch haters will notice how well he handled it after the race with his actions and his comments. I'm not even much of a fan of his, but I thought he had every right to go up to Reutimann after the race and clock him right in the face. Anything that takes Jimmie Johnson's competition out of the points race is just stupid and bad for the sport. Shame on you, Reutimann. How does my point hold no validity? I said that he has retaliated even when the other party wasn't completely at fault, which is 100% true. I'm wrong because he doesn't do it EVERY TIME? Don't you remember Bristol in the Nationwide Series? Kyle put himself in the outside wall because he wasn't clear and came up, and he felt the need to intentionally wreck Brad back. Brad's racing for a championship there as the points leader, and Kyle's in the points battle here in Cup but not the points leader. My point holds 100% validity, because it's true! Also, your reading comprehension failed, because obviously Burton was at fault at Loudon and I used the example "even when the other party isn't at fault". I'll say it once again. I'm not down with retaliation, but I'm not gonna cry tears for someone who does it pretty often. I mean, crap.. Kyle was even intentionally making contact with his TEAMMATE in yesterday's Nationwide race and tried to move Logano out of 4 for the win, which ended up costing himself 2nd. I am not a big Kyle Busch fan but I can't stand Reut as I have already shown. The only reason why Reut is where he is is because of Toyota. Leaving the multiple instances of intentional contact with his teammate yesterday that has already been mentioned, who else has Kyle intentionally gotten into in spats of anger? Well, off the type of my head: Carl Edwards, Anthony Lazzaro (#37 Carter @ Watkins Glen, resulted in penalty), Juan Montoya, Steve Wallace... maybe I'll do a google search to recall more instances. 24. Kyle ADMITTED that the accident was his fault, the whole reason he hit David was because of the difference in center speed, not because he was trying to go low. "I viewed it similar to the James Buescher-Jason Leffler incident earlier this year, and Leffler was parked after retaliating. NASCAR set precedent by parking Leffler, but does absolutely nothing to Reutimann" That was not the precedent they set. They did nothing to Kyle Busch at Bristol for intentionally spinning Brad Keselowski, they kept Edwards' win at Gateway after his blatant intentional wreck, they didn't do a damn thing to Edwards back at Atlanta in the spring, they didn't black flag Kasey Kahne just a few weeks ago for his rough driving with Newman, do you need me to go on? NASCAR has RARELY done anything mid-race to guys who do that thing except in Leffler's case. Draw your own conclusions why, but this was not a recent inconsistency on NASCAR's part, because they have been letting guys get away with this almost all year. 25. You don't know that this Reutimann situation will cost Kyle the championship, but if it does, he can blame himself for needlessly dumping Reutimann early in the race. Why does it have to be Cup alone, or Chase driver vs non Chase driver? How about, a guy racing for the Nationwide championship and another guy who isn't? "Kasey Kahne incident - didn't really wreck Newman, different" intentional contact to prove a point. Kasey hit him hard enough that a lot of drivers would've wrecked, Newman saved it. Reutimann spun himself out trying to get Kyle, but he luckily hit Kyle's car in the right place to invoke rear end damage. The two situations are the closest out of all the others, because the 18 and 39 both didn't even spin. 51. It's the 5th time in 8 seasons he's had multiple wins in a year. Biffle ties Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart for most wins at Kansas with two, and Biffle leads all drivers there in average finish (8.1) and laps led (323). It's Roush Racing's 118th career Cup win, but just their 5th win since the start of 2009. Jimmie Johnson has his 4th podium finish in the last 5 races after having just his 5th start of 20th or worse this season. Despite his 25th place finish at Loudon, Jimmie has outscored everyone over the first 3 Chase races. BTW for those thinking it's game over in regards to the championship, Jimmie hasn't had a top 10 streak longer than 4 races so far in 2010. Kevin Harvick records his series-leading 13th top five and 19th top ten of the season. It's Harvick's first top five at Kansas but his 3rd top ten in the last 4 races there. Tony Stewart has his first top ten in the last 4 races, and his 5th top five in 10 Kansas starts. Despite having two wins there, Tony had only led 56 laps at Kansas previous to leading a race-high 76 laps this season. This is Jeff Gordon's first top five in the last 10 races, and just the 4th race he's led over that span. But it's his 4th straight top five at Kansas, and all-time best 7th top five in 10 starts there. Carl Edwards has scored the 2nd most points of any drivers in the first 3 Chase races. But it's extremely close between the top five, and the first 8 Chase drivers for that matter. Here's how the Chase drivers have done in the first 3 races: Jimmie Johnson 453 Carl Edwards 450 Jeff Gordon 445 Kevin Harvick 443 Denny Hamlin 435 Kurt Busch 413 Greg Biffle 408 Jeff Burton 402 Kyle Busch 393 Tony Stewart 366 Matt Kenseth 354 Clint Bowyer 251 Matt Kenseth gets just his 3rd top ten in the last 16 races. Ryan Newman has his 5th top ten in the last 6 races, ranking 4th in point scored over that stretch. AJ Allmendinger scores back-to-back top tens for the first time in his career, with 7 top tens in 2010 being a new career high. 54. If Reut didn't bend Kyle's car up, Kyle would have bent it up himself at the end when JJ's car finally got rolling, and passed Kyle. Kyle would have gone crazy inside the car and hit the wall. Kyle can't handle pressure, JJ thrives under it. The cha$e changes Kyle. Compare him battling JJ for the win late in the two Dover races this year. In May, he performed flawlessly, passed JJ late, then JJ sped on pit road. In the cha$e? He hit the wall BEFORE JJ even caught him. So let's back off Reut and quit pretending he really cost Kyle something. 62. Kurt won the Cup title in his 4th full year of competition in a car that wasn't performing well before he got in it, meanwhile Kyle is in his 6th full year of competition. They filled up most of the front stretch stands. If they put a Truck race here, I guarantee you they'd get at least 30,000. @63: My point still stands. JJ was fast, and Kyle choked. In May, with JJ equally fast, Kyle never flinched, and it was JJ who screwed up. But in the cha$e, JJ is inside Kyle's head. Yes Kyle took the lead after JJ had to slow way down entering the pits to avoid another speeding penalty, but after hitting the wall, Kyle said on the radio it changed his front suspension. That probably screwed up the team's adjustments, which is probably why he faded at the end. The fact is Kyle's cha$e results don't lie. His performance always drops when the pressure is on. He has never won a race as a cha$e competitor, and has just one cha$e race win, in '05, the second to last race of the year with him back around 20th in points and nothing to lose. That is when Kyle is at his best. When the chance at true greatness presents itself, he can't handle it. And his knowledge of the fact JJ is out there is something he really can't handle. Honestly, what Reut did may have been the best thing for Kyle. It has taken a lot of pressure off him. It's true that Reut screwed up Kyle's day, and I thought that was funny. Even funnier was Kyle's reaction to it. "NASCAR better do something about this!" But it would still be better for David to be able to retaliate and not hurt himself any in the process. Also, I don't think it's fair to say Reut has no talent. People with no talent wouldn't win with MWR. They would race for a few years in MWR cars and have a best points finish of 29th (I'm sure you all know who I'm referring to). Reutimann finished in the top-20 last year and very well could again this year. "seriuously i almost want nascar to throw a late caution in one of these races" For no reason? The last thing we need is more bogus cautions. Glad to see they've been letting up on them lately. "The fact is Kyle's cha$e results don't lie. His performance always drops when the pressure is on." Now that you mention that, I agree. The fact that he has no wins and only 8 top-5's and 15 top-10's in his 33 career races as a Cha$e competitor speaks for itself. That's not even close to being good enough to win the championship. "This has got to be the most delicious irony I have heard of in a long long LONG time." Agreed. "You're basic argument here is, because Kyle Busch won this race in May, it was his to lose in September." First of all, Dover is notorious for sweeps. Secondly, my argument is that Kyle was once again strong this time, but not quite as strong as the 48, just like the earlier race. In May, he drove the perfect race and JJ made a mental blunder by speeding on pit road. Kyle was in a similar circumstance in the cha$e race here. This time, instead of at least finishing 2nd like he should have, he hit the wall, altered his front suspension (he said on the radio it changed his steering wheel position), and although it worked for a little bit, it threw off his team's adjustment plans, and he fell to a disappointing 6th. "You ignore everything that happened in the race, and assume that because Busch was able to take the lead at one point, he "choked" because he didn't win." No, he choked because he hit the wall and finished 6th with a 2nd place car. I use caps and exclamation points to emphasize points of my discussion that I feel are important. On this page, there is no option for boldfacing words or changing font size (and that is a good thing IMO. If we had that, it would definitely be abused). This isn't video or a telephone converation, where you can raise your voice or change the tone of your voice to convey things. When published, these are just words. I use these techniques because I personally feel it is the most effective way to get certain points that I feel are important across. If you think it looks silly, then I respect your opinion, but I have no plans to change. And just for the record, I have friends with pre-teen or teenage daughters or sisters, and their way of typing involves a lot of abbreviations like they always use in text messages. Lots of OMGs and stuff like that. Plus, lots of smiley faces and, worst of all in my opinion, lol after every other word. I use lol occasionally, but they like to use it after every sentence. "with the way you always seem to be assuming he should be winning all these races." If you are gonna carry yourself the way he does and see yourself as being above everyone else, just like this Reut situation, Kyle can retaliate and brag about it, but it happens to him and he whines like a little girl. Also, he chastised Vickers after an NWide race last year because he had the audacity to actually race him for the win (OMG! lol), then you have a different standard to live up to, and you have done it to yourself. And the way his performance fades so dramatically in the cha$e, especially as a cha$er, has to be talked about. If you are so freaking good, you shouldn't have such a sharp decline in productivity when it truly matters. Yes he has had mechanical failures and been wrecked. You know who else has had that happen to them in the cha$e? Jimmie Johnson. In '06, he lost a cylinder at Loudon putting him back in the pack, then he wrecked out in one of those back of the pack wrecks. Then he got dumped by Vickers at Talladega. Did he boo-hoo the way Kyle has? No, he put it to the floorboard, won the championship, and hasn't lost it since. 98. In the 600, Mark held off a furious charge by Kenseth to win, and of course in the Fall, Jamie McMurray won in his second ever race by holding off Bobby Labonte, just two years removed from his Winston Cup Championship and during his run as the king of the intermediates. That was borderline epic at the time. It gets kinda lost now since Jamie's career never really took off until this year and Bobby fell into irrelevence quicker than anyone I can remember, but it was something at the time. But a few things have doomed it since then (aside from the sinkhole, have I mentioned that CMS has a huge sinkhole yet?). First of all, JJ started dominating there which just sucked the life out of those races (just like he would later suck the life out of the entire sport, whoops, I forgot I'm supposedly JJ's biggest fan). I had the misfortune of attending the '04 Coke 600. Nothing like spending 4 and 1/2 hours watching one car lead for 4 and 1/4 of those hours. And secondly they changed the surface which was a disaster. I also had the misfortune of attending the '05 Coke 600. 5 and 1/2 hours of "when is this damn thing gonna end????". Sure the finish was exciting even though it royally pissed me off (whoops, I mean I was jumping for joy). Iwent to the '06 600, finally got to see somebody besides JJ win there (thank you Kasey), and I haven't been back since. I have had the chance to pick up FREE tickets to some of the Cup races (one of my neighbors knows a guy that knows a guy...) and I live only a little more than an hour from that track. But I don't care. It just isn't worth it. The racing is bad and JJ will most likely win. Sure I love going to Martinsville and JJ will most likely win there, but at least it is a fun afternoon of racing to watch. And that leads me to my final point (jack and Bronco, you might wanna quit reading cause I'm about to use the caps button and exclamation points): WHOSE IDEA WAS IT TO HOLD THE FALL RACE AT NIGHT?!?!?!? October nights in NC are usually cold (well, cold for us, us Southerners are wusses about the cold). I went to the night race in '04 (which JJ surprisingly won) and hated it. October days are nice, the nights suck. Just for the record, I have been in attendance for all 6 of JJ's Martinsville wins, and 3 of his Charlotte wins. I have attended 4 of Gordon's Martinsville wins, 2 of his Charlotte wins, and 1 of his Southern 500 wins. I was also there once when Terry Labonte won at North Wilkesboro in the #5 car. Rick Hendrick needs to hire me (and pay me a lot of money) as his good luck charm. 99. petty43 posted: 10.10.2010 - 10:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) good stuff 100. He led laps 196-206 and laps 237-238 102. dantheracer99 posted: 04.06.2020 - 10:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Crew Chief Update: #6 Drew Blickensderfer - Roush Fenway Racing ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
