This will be by far his best season in Cup, and returning to Ganassi was probably the best thing he could have done. He always had great chemistry with this team. Gotta give a shout out to Reut and Regan Smith (again) for their good finishes. 3. potatosalad48 posted: 10.17.2010 - 12:01 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Great job J-Mac, coming from 27th to win. 4. Very disappointed to see Kyle dominate and lose (see Jeff Burton, 1998 Southern 500), but it was a great race between Kyle and Jimmie those last ten laps while Jaime drove off. We can now eliminate Stewart and Gordon from championship contention, and Harvick can't continue to finish in the back end of the top 10 and be a threat to Jimmie. J.J. Yeley finished the race in the 9 car, causing confusion, at least in my dad, as the running order ticker showed Yeley twice. Kasey Kahne was feeling ill after his ill-handling car wrecked with Sideways Sam. 7. 12345Dude posted: 10.17.2010 - 12:20 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Wow this is Jamie McMurray's 2010 season so far. Wins the Daytona 500, the Brickyard 400, and is the first non chase driver to win a chase race in like 5 years. Amazing. Was fun listening to Kyle Busch make an ass out of himself again. That was fun. Oh yeah let me tell you why I hate Bill France III. - In the nationwide series cup drivers win 34 of 36 races a year. And he has done nothing to fix it. - Bill France III could either keep the camping world truck series, as the great racing it is. Or he could make a little less money and turn it into the nationwide series. Guess which one he choose? Kyle Busch can race 22 of 25 camping world trucks series races next year. - This retarted Chase of the Sprint Cup which makes the whole 26 races as a big test season. That's all it is. The top 12 drivers get the points reset after 12 races. - Why he won't leave nascar alone, and is going to change the chase again. - Why he has these fake debry cautions every week. Why won't he just call them competion cautions? Ahhhh. It makes nascar look fake. And he can also throw when of these when ever he wants to benefit a driver. - When ever a driver says something he doesn't like. He finds them 50,000 dollars. And these fines are secretly. - Regular season is pointless he won't allow 20 points for each regular season win - He won't add 50 points more for a win. So Denny doesn't have to say "only the last 3 racer matter. This and with drivers acting like they are 5. Wrestling being a joke when it was AMAZING 10 years ago. And nascar being great 10 years ago. And now look at it. Ahhh. Also, I said two weeks that Jimmie Johnson had won the title. And last week confirmed it. It seems like Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin have given up. Listen tp Denny after the race, and Kyle during the race. Also Dale Earnhardt Junior HAHAH racing with David Gilliland!!! I think they stopped having Mark's team share equipment with him. Oh yeah note to nascar. When there is smoke there is fire? All this crap I heard about him being a title contender. And that Jimmie Johnson should watch him back. LOL! 8. RaceFanX posted: 10.17.2010 - 12:25 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It was a rough night for several of the Chasers... Jeff Burton's lap 248 spin filled the interior of his car with smoke, thankfully it quickly leaked out of th ecar and he was ablr to continue. Jeff Gordon dropped from contention for the win when his car suddenly died due to a alternator problem that killed one of his batteries. He eventually got it restarted, albeit after Greg Biffle nearly slammed the back of his car, but lost a lap Other notes... After a crash sidelined the #9 Ford Kasey Kahne was unavailable to drive it when his time repaired it. J.J. Yeley who start-and-parked drove the Bud Ford in relief. Because the #7 Toyota was down in the owner points Robby Gordon strapped back into it this week with the original plan being for him to run a pink car while Kevin Conway drove a blue #07. Conway DNQed and Gordon's car likely got a quick wrap to run with a modified version of the blue Extenze look. It didn't do Robby any good, a spin wrecked his shot for a good finish. Bill Elliott ran a special blue paint job in this race designed by 8-year-old Carson Luther as part of a promotion to support research into finding a cure for diabetes. David Ragan also had a charity paint job, UPD painted his car silver as part of a celebration on the company's one billionth dollar donated to the United Way 9. That was my prediction that I made on the Indy race page after Jamie won. Looks like it came true. Jamie Mac started 27th in both Charlotte races, lost the bigger one to the bigger Busch, but beat the other Busch to win the shorter Charlotte race. In every one of his 3 wins this year, he snatched the lead right on the final restart and held off some very good drivers to win. He has now won more races than his ex-team has combined. Kevin Conway gets his first DNQ of the season, yet he wasn't the slowest in qualifying. Also extremely terrible runs for Dale Jr and this year's 600 winner. "Wow this is Jamie McMurray's 2010 season so far. Wins the Daytona 500, the Brickyard 400, and is the first non chase driver to win a chase race in like 5 years." No, Jamie Mac was the last guy to win a chase race before this one, last year at Talladega. 10. 18fan posted: 10.17.2010 - 12:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Marty Reid totally blew the number of different leaders out of proportion. Probably not, but I wouldn't say absolutely not. " Yet, in what seems like dozens of other race pages or driver pages, DaleSrFan has pointed out that Kyle Busch will never win a title because he's a choker. Yes, he's not ready to write off Jamie McMurray as a future champ, but as for the 25 year old Busch, he's certain that he doesn't have what it takes to win it all. I just wanted everyone to know that, so they don't bother paying attention to a word that biased moron says. I'm sure he'll be in here, most likely posting 3 or 4 times in this page saying things that contradict other things he's said, using false equivalency to argue what drivers are better than others, and mentioning how he knows so much more about the sport because he's been watching it longer than everybody else. In other words, his pretty standard responses. Oh, and he'll say he doesn't like Jimmie Johnson after rattling off 2 or 3 paragraphs about how great Johnson is, as if he's the only NASCAR fan smart enough to figure out how good Jimmie Johnson is and everyone else is an idiot for rooting against him. 12. posted: 10.17.2010 - 1:01 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Certainly a good night for Roush Fenway with all four cars, even David Ragan, in the top 12. A lot better than last weekend that's for sure. I think McMurray could make the Chase next year if they can get more consistent finishes. @18Fan I agree with your statement about Harvick. Top tens aren't going to be enough to beat Jimmie. I'd say it's a two man chase now & Martinsville should be interesting considering how good both Hamlin & Johnson are there. 13. Still, if there was anyone deserving of this win besides Busch, it was McMurray. He was coming on strong and going to pass Busch regardless of the caution. But I was much more enthralled with the Busch-Johnson battle at the end than with McMurray winning. I don't feel like NASCAR has enough great battles like that at the end of races anymore. Two mega-talented drivers, near opposites in many ways in this case, racing it out while using every inch of race track, without wrecking into each other. I'm actually kinda surprised Busch was able to maintain that position with as frustrated as he was, and as good as Johnson is. 16. One thing I'd really like to mention, is how appalled I am at NASCARs apparent ignorance of Kurt Busch driving down pit road waaaay over the limit. The way I read it, NASCAR cares more about competition than safety, hence so many unnecessary cautions, and then when a driver shows a complete disregard for safety on pit road, all he gets is a slap on the wrist. I enjoy NASCAR, I really do, and I don't believe this season has been anywhere near as bad as some people make it out to be. But I just wish the boffins at the top would pull themselves together and govern this series in a professional and respectable manner. 17. ii posted: 10.17.2010 - 7:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Wins the Daytona 500, the Brickyard 400, and is the first non chase driver to win a chase race in like 5 years." Thank you for putting a human face on a sport that is so programmed right now. Most other drivers either show no emotion, or are complete jerks. Jamie is not bland, he allows his very unique personality to show through and that is a refreshing personality to see. He isn't pre-programmed (did he even mention any of his sponsors in victory lane?), and he isn't a jerk. And talking about prayer and God in a social climate where that is becoming increasingly rare while not coming across as Holier Than Thou? Amazing. Oh, and by the way, that was one hell of a race he put on. When that last caution came out as he was running Kyle down, I thought he was done. Kyle was an absolute rocketship on restarts, and it seemed to take Jamie a while to get going. I thought to myself "well, there it is, Kyle will finally win a race as a cha$er". But Jamie never let his confidence waver, held with him on the restart, and blasted past him. For a driver that was completely out of confidence at one point, that is pretty amazing. If the #1 team can just lose that Top 5, 20th, Top 5, 20th thing they have going this year, it will be interesting to see what they can do. As I said on his page, Jamie has to have the strangest career arc of anyone in the last 40 years (petty43 might have to help me on this one). He wins his second career race, this race in 2002 (where he ironically also held off the #18 car). He runs the final 4 races of '02, and almost 7 complete seasons afterwards, through Fall Martinsville '09, 252 races total, and wins ONCE. But in the 35 races from Fall Dega '09 to present he has won 4 times. Only Johnson and Hamlin have won more in that stretch. And one other thing about Jamie: Don't sleep on him at Martinsville next week. He is sneaky good there. He always ran good there in the #42 car, and was almost always the top Roush car when he drove the #26 car. the finishes don't always show it, but he is damn good there. He just couldn't break up the Gordon/Johnson stranglehold there. 19. Cooper posted: 10.17.2010 - 9:23 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yep. It's official. Brad and that #12 team are terrible. 20. DaleSrFanForever posted: 10.17.2010 - 9:24 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I debated whether or not to respond to post #11, but there are some things I feel the need to clear up. "Yet, in what seems like dozens of other race pages or driver pages, DaleSrFan has pointed out that Kyle Busch will never win a title because he's a choker. Yes, he's not ready to write off Jamie McMurray as a future champ, but as for the 25 year old Busch, he's certain that he doesn't have what it takes to win it all." Kyle will never win a championship unless he has a MAJOR attitude overhaul. Does he have the talent to win it? Of course. I think only Tony Stewart has more natural driving ability. But his defeatist attitude and inability to look past the present moment will doom him until he grows up. He dominated this race, yet the whole time was finding stuff wrong with the car, and sarcastically taking shots at his crew. That won't work. Compare his attitude to JJ's (more on him in a second). He spins out alone after a rare bad pit call from Chad putting him back in the hornet's nest, almost gets lapped, but he never gave up, even leading at one point, and finishing 3rd with a car that was once a 20th place machine at best. He never panicked, let his crew do their magic, and increased his points lead on a night when the #11 had a much better car than him. Every little thing that goes wrong for Kyle, it's "We're done, it's over, we gave another one away" (Harvick is the same way BTW). In the pressure cooker that is the cha$e, when every little instance can have huge ramnifications, it just totally gets to him. Until he loses that attitude, quits piling up enemies, quits making his crew member's lives miserable, and takes the humongous magnifying glass off himself that he puts there with his obnoxious behavior, he won't win a championship. Just look at the results: When the pressure is on, real pressure to do something truly great in the CUP Series, he folds. Just look at how his numbers dip once he is in the cha$e. Or even look at last year when he couldn't even get into the cha$e. To be a champion, you have to face pressure and work your way through it, not flip out the second it even looks like it might hit. As I said, the numbers don't lie. He has won more than anyone except JJ since 2006, yet hasn't even sniffed a Cup title. "Oh, and he'll say he doesn't like Jimmie Johnson after rattling off 2 or 3 paragraphs about how great Johnson is" You know, it is possible to appreciate somebody's ability without liking them. I'll give you a good example: Ben Rothlisburger (I'm pretty sure I misspelled that and I really don't give a shit). The guy is a creep and an absolute scumbag. But I respect the hell out of his ability as a QB. His ability to make those late game passes and the plays that truly matter to win ball games (see the Super Bowl vs the Cardinals). If I could have any QB for my team in the league right now (including Manning and post injury Brady), it would be Ben. I'd attach a shock collar to him that goes off anytime he enters a college bar, but I'd still want him as my QB. Another thing, I feel the need to stand up for JJ cause too many people try to downplay what he has done. So many people are so sick of watching him win over and over, they nitpick this and that. I am also sick of watching him win, but I give credit where credit is due. Yes, he is on the best team in NASCAR, and yes his competition is extremely weak minded which has allowed him to somewhat inflate his stats. But the fact is, in 9 years, he has won 50+ races, 4 straight titles (possibly soon to be 5), never finished out of the Top 5 in points, and doesn't let adversity get to him. If anything, it motivates him. He is the best RACER out there (there is a difference between racing and driving). If you disagree, you're wrong. 21. DaleSrFanForever posted: 10.17.2010 - 9:31 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Yep. It's official. Brad and that #12 team are terrible." Ain't that the truth! They have gotten worse and worse as the year has gone by. After the #22 NWide team wraps up the title at Texas, I hope they move Paul Wolfe to that team and see what he can do. I think Paul gives Brad confidence. It is a totally different world in Cup compared to NWide, so improved results are not a guarantee by any means, but try SOMETHING. 22. Dude has been through a lot and while he does have a taste for the sorority girls, I have tonnes of respect for him considering he has handled every tough situation in the correct manor. And I also need to clarify something about Kyle. I have said in the past he won't win a championship and that is because of what DaleSr said...He needs to settle down and lose a bit of that edge that he always drives with. It's lap 1 and Kyle is already putting 110% of emotion in the race. Let the race come to you. In Nationwide or Trucks Lap 30 is important, in the Cup Series lap 30 means nothing. But he is talented and needs to get some advice (maybe me or DaleSrFanForever) to enjoy your 2nd place finish that wasn't surprising. Even the guys in the booth mentioned that Big Mac had the best car. Anyways I hope Johnson wins again. He's the only driver in that Top 12 that a genuinely like. I always hated Johnson but he just doesn't piss me off anymore. Actually when I look at Top 12, this is what comes to mind: Johnson: Needs to thank Jeff Gordon for every win/championship. Hamlin: Softy. Whines alot Harvick: Total A-Hole. Will beat up his mother for not doing something right Gordon: Irrevelant these days. KY. Busch: Everything I hate in a person Stewart: Thinks he's the king, puts on an image, then punches security and photographers Edwards: Can you say bi-polar. Will also take you out at a go-kart track Biffle: Bug-eyed Dummy Busch: thought doing snow angels with no snow as a celebration was cool Burton: Least talented of the two brothers. IMHO Kenseth: He still races? Bowyer: OK. I don' got anything on Bowyer. No wonder why ratings are down. No marketable drivers. Dale Sr: marketable Rusty: marketable Jarrett: marketable Ol' Sterling: marketable 23. Just wanted to say that if there was any question before, it's safe to say Lance's days are numbered as crew chief of the #88. This race was essentially Richmond part II -qualify in the top 10, drop like a rock and end up well off the pace. It is shocking how bad the team has become after the mid season Daytona night race. And nothing is going to change without another massive overhaul of that team, from the ground up. It is disappointing for it to have come down to this, since the #88 team showed a bit of promise the first half of the season. Labonte finishes the first car a lap down in a 4th RCR car. David Ragan gets a very rare top 10, only the 4th for him and UPS lol. Hamlin's 4th place finish means that he finally has at least 1 top 5 at every track on the circuit. 24. However, I have matured and you can't take anything away from the fact that Jimmie is one of the three most talented drivers, has a David Pearson-like ice water through the veins at the end of races, has elite equipment, has one of the best crew chiefs overall, and definitely the best crew chief at keeping up with the racetrack and improving a car throughout the race. 26. Great to see Kyle Busch squander a race it looked like he would walk away with. I have enormous respect for his talent, but his drama antics get old, quick. Jimmie Johnson showed again last night why the 5th is probably his. No other team/driver in the garage area last night could have overcame what the 48 team did. I'm not fan, but I appreciate great success when I see it. It's now officially a 3 horse race. It's the 3 most deserving candidates. I'm hoping Harvick can somehow pull out a miracle, but I doubt it. Finishing 5th-7th just isn't good enough when Johnson is clicking off top 3's each week. Hamlin will be stout next week, but Johnson should be solid everywhere from here out(Dega is a crapshoot for everyone). Why was Kurt Busch not accessed a penalty? Wasn't that the new rule this year? Yeah, everybody knows that, because that's the way most NASCAR fans are with Jimmie Johnson. You on the otherhand, are practically in love with the guy, but not man enough to just admit it. "Jimmie has an interesting personality, but unfortunately he rarely shows it publically. When you get him outside the racetrack, he is quite engaging. I wish he'd show that more often. And he has a great back story. He definitely wasn't groomed for stock car racing success from his early shildhood. He lived in a trailer park for Pete's Sake. If he would let that side of him come out, a lot more fans would get behind him and this would be looked back upon as a glorious era like Petty's and Earnhardt's heyday." That's a quote from DaleSrFan on last weeks race page, just to show everyone what I'm talking about. He'll always try to qualify it by saying, "oh, I'm tired of him winning too," but that's BS. "Another thing, I feel the need to stand up for JJ cause too many people try to downplay what he has done." WHO!? Who does that!? All any NASCAR fan ever hears or reads about Johnson is how great he is, how much of a legend he is, how ungodly his stats are. Considering his titles have all come under the Chase format, (which DaleSrFan has himself criticized, yet continually trots out to prove his points) I think it's only fair to say he's not the best of all time and his 4 titles don't come close to comparing to Gordon, Petty, or Earnhardts, but who is downplaying what he's done!? He's won more than 50 races for chrissakes! This is probably the dumbest point you continually try to make. STOP acting like you're Jimmie Johnson's personal vanguard when it comes to his respect amongst regular NASCAR fans. YOU'RE NOT. And you aren't the only one who magically understands how good he is. Or to say it better, "You know, it is possible to appreciate somebody's ability without liking them." "Kyle will never win a championship unless he has a MAJOR attitude overhaul." You mean like when he gets older and matures as a driver, just like EVERY OTHER DRIVER THAT HAS COME BEFORE HIM SINCE THE BEGINNING OF TIME? He's 25! My god, you act like he's already halfway through his career, and will continually blow his last remaining few shots at a championship because of his attitude. What were you doing when you were 25? I'm guessing you weren't a mega-successful, multi-millionaire, future hall of fame NASCAR driver, otherwise you might actually know what you're talking about when it comes to racing. "He dominated this race, yet the whole time was finding stuff wrong with the car" If by "whole time" you mean for the 30 laps he actually had a stuck throttle, then yes. " and sarcastically taking shots at his crew" If by "crew" you mean the people that build JGR cars, then yes. "Just look at the results: When the pressure is on, real pressure to do something truly great in the CUP Series, he folds." So, who else has won a title in the past 4 years? Or is everybody BESIDES Johnson a choker? Because that seems to be your definition. If you don't win the title, you folded. And before you bring up his points finishes, realize for a second that the Chase skews how many points you actually earn over an entire season (you always conveniently forget that when it doesn't help prove one of your "points"), and that his run in 2008 was ruined by problems not of his own doing (hey, just like this year! but you'll forget that as soon as next year starts). And since no one has come close to touching Johnson for the title over the past 4 years, lets look at the next best guide for judging talent under pressure, race wins. Oh wait, let's not do that, because that doesn't help your argument. (Hey kids, apparently the only pressure a driver can feel is when he's racing in NASCAR's manufactured playoff system, never during any other race! Isn't that fascinating?). And I'd like to end this paragraph by saying again, HE'S 25! Can we at least wait until his career is a quarter of the way over before being certain "he will never do this" or "he will never win that"? Maybe it's just me, but since I've watched sports before, I think it's pretty dumb to say a talented athlete who everyone agrees is better than most everybody else, is never going to win a championship just because he's come close once, at a ridiculously young age, but didn't get the job done. Seriously, what a stupid argument. That argument is dumb no matter what sport you apply it to. "Wow, he's come close to winning a title at a younger age than anyone else, but wasn't ready for the pressure that one time? Write him off, he'll never win it in any of the next 15 years during his actual prime when he's going to be at his best!" And just to put a point on the end of this, DaleSrFan still thinks Jamie McMurray has more of what it takes to win a title than Kyle Busch. Jamie McMurray, who has never shown an ability to be consistent whatsoever, has the proper ATTITUDE it takes, and that's more important than anything else. That's the argument from a guy who thinks his opinions matter on this site. Just wanted to point that out to everybody. Nothing against McMurray, but he does not have what it takes to win a title, I have no problem saying that given where he is in his career, and what he's done over the past 8 seasons. But we all know that a talented young driver with an attitude can't get it done, especially not against Johnson, and especially not if their last name is Busch! *cough* 2004 *cough* 29. He's 25! My god, you act like he's already halfway through his career, and will continually blow his last remaining few shots at a championship because of his attitude. What were you doing when you were 25? I'm guessing you weren't a mega-successful, multi-millionaire, future hall of fame NASCAR driver, otherwise you might actually know what you're talking about when it comes to racing." Jeff Gordon was 24 when he won his first title. 25 years old is officially grown up. What was I doing when I was 25? That was last year and the first 3 months of this year. I sure as hell wasn't acting like a jackass, making enemies left and right, complaining my whole way through a dream situation, and throwing my coworkers under the bus. I was acting like an adult because otherwise I would be fired so fast it would make my head spin. And don't automatically assume Kyle will have a whole lot more opportunities ahead of him. He's already burned two bridges in NASCAR, HMS and Roush, and most JGR employess can't be happy with him constantly calling them out. And yes he will continue blowing chances at championships unless his attitude drastically changes. Oh, and future HOF? Not at this moment. Not close at this moment. "So, who else has won a title in the past 4 years? Or is everybody BESIDES Johnson a choker? Because that seems to be your definition. If you don't win the title, you folded." Kyle hasn't even sniffed a title in Cup yet. Since 2006, the year of Johnson's 1st title and Kyle's first cha$e stinkbomb, the following drivers have had mathematical shots at the title at Homestead (granted some were longshots, but they have had a better chance than Kyle): Kenseth, Harvick, Dale Jr, Hamlin, Gordon, Edwards, and Mark. It's not that he hasn't won a title, it's how drastically his production drops when the pressure is on. You can even throw in the race to the cha$e last year when he got outdueled by Brian Vickers of all people. Pressure + Kyle Busch = Fold. "And before you bring up his points finishes, realize for a second that the Chase skews how many points you actually earn over an entire season (you always conveniently forget that when it doesn't help prove one of your "points")" I know it skews it, and I hate the cha$e, but it is fun to watch how drivers react under the pressure cooker. And Kyle always gets cooked. "and that his run in 2008 was ruined by problems not of his own doing (hey, just like this year! but you'll forget that as soon as next year starts)." You know who else has had problems in the cha$e not of their doing since 2006? Jimmie Johnson. Hell look at 2006. He loses a cylinder at Loudon putting him midpack where he crashes out in a mid pack crash. He dominates Kansas before Kasey Kahne spins out in front of him while he's trying to pit dropping him to a 14th place finish. He runs bad at Dover, then has the Dega '06 debacle. Did he mail the rest of the cha$e in the Kyle did in '08? Nope. And this year, at the first race in Loudon, he gets caught up in about 27 spins, and has to pit late for a loose wheel ending up 92 points out of the lead. He had the points lead TWO RACES LATER! "And since no one has come close to touching Johnson for the title over the past 4 years, lets look at the next best guide for judging talent under pressure, race wins. Oh wait, let's not do that, because that doesn't help your argument." Lots of people have come a lot closer to touching JJ in the last 5 years than Kyle. And his win total only helps my point. He can undoubtably win. However, that ability seems to fade once the cha$e starts. "Maybe it's just me, but since I've watched sports before, I think it's pretty dumb to say a talented athlete who everyone agrees is better than most everybody else, is never going to win a championship just because he's come close once, at a ridiculously young age, but didn't get the job done." He came close? When? And again, Gordon won his first title at 24, beating Earnhardt. And we have seen the same pattern for Kyle in the last 5 years. Pressure kills him. And it isn't getting better. It's like something we do in the medical field called "trending". Kyle's trend hasn't changed over 5 years. Until he shows differently, he'll need a major attitude overhaul before winning a title. Or get lucky like his brother and have everyone else make a ton of mistakes. ""Wow, he's come close to winning a title at a younger age than anyone else, but wasn't ready for the pressure that one time? Write him off, he'll never win it in any of the next 15 years during his actual prime when he's going to be at his best!"" Yeah, good thing we didn't do that to Dan Marino when he made the Super Bowl in his 2nd season and got seriously outplayed by Joe Montana. Oh wait. "And just to put a point on the end of this, DaleSrFan still thinks Jamie McMurray has more of what it takes to win a title than Kyle Busch." First of all I said I wouldn't rule out a Jamie Mac title, just like I have never ruled out a Kyle Busch title if he changes his attitude. That is exactly what Jamie has done. He had totally allowed his confidence to go away. He had no belief in his ability in a race car for a long time at Roush. He could have either given in to that attitude forever until he finally got pushed out of the sport, or reinvented himself. He has undergone a rebirth of sorts lately, so we almost have to look at this as his rookie year as a driver with confidence. Kyle can do the same. It's up to him. At that point, I'll re-evaluate his chances of winning a title. 33. Are you 100% that Jeff Gordon would have the 1995 championship if Davey Allison was still alive or Ernie Irvan didn't suffer his 1994 Michigan crash? I couldn't be certain myself because I remembered Davey Allison and Ernie Irvan at his height while I was a teenager at the time. Jeff's stats at that time were helped by a series of events that wasn't in Jeff's control like Davey Allison's tragic death. Jeff would have a won cup championship in the 1990's if unseen events didn't happen, but his stats wouldn't have been good and he might have only won 1 championship in the 1990's. If Kyle had the unseen events that Jeff Gordon had, Kyle might have had similar results as Jeff. Here is a series of events that might have contributed to Jeff's stats being so great in the 1990's: Alan Kulwicki's death from airplane on April Fool's day in 1993 (tragic memory for me as Kulwicki fan in 1993 as a teenager) Davey Allison's tragic Helicopter death in July 1993. Ernie Irvan's near fatal 1994 Michigan crash Ricky Rudd deciding to be an owner/driver Bill Elliott deciding to be an owner/driver instead of going to a team like Yates. Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s injuries from his 1996 Talladega including neck problems so bad that he had surgery done after the 1999 season 35. In 1995 Jeff Gordon faced the following: 44 year old Dale Earnhardt near his peak Terry Labonte in his 2nd year with Hendrick Sterling Marlin having one of his best seasons ever Dale Jarrett replacing Ernie Irvan and struggled during the year Bill Elliott's first year as an owner/driver - that means a great driver with a mid pack team Ricky Rudd in his 2nd year as an owner/driver - might have cost him better stats Mark Martin in his prime, but driving like his normal conservative self Kyle Petty declining as a driver Bobby Labonte - first year with Gibbs Jeff Burton before his prime Rusty Wallace - performance slipped from 1994 Ted Musgrave - had his best year ever in cup Morgan Shepherd - starting to show his age in 1995 with him being 54 by the end of the season. 46 year old Geoff Bodine as an owner/driver- he was never as competitive as was in 1994 again in his career. 48 year old Darrell Waltrip as a driver owner - suffered injuries in the Winston and declined even more as a result. Bobby Hamilton - start of a good seasons of a driver that was better than his race team Ward Burton winning a race with a bad team Kyle Busch had to face the following in 2010: Jeff Gordon being competitive, but isn't at his peak as a driver Jimmie Johnson at his peak Mark Martin being plagued by crew member switch during the off season Denny Hamlin in his prime Clint Bowyer being his normal points racer self Greg Biffle still at his peak as a driver at age 40. Matt Kenseth having one of his worse years to date. Kasey Kahne racing as a lame duck driver Kurt Busch still being in his prime Jamie McMurray having one of his best seasons to date Bobby Labonte racing for underfunded teams David Reutimann having a solid year Joey Logano still developing as a driver. Tony Stewart is still near his peak as a driver. Jeff Burton rebounding from a disappointing 2009 season Kevin Harvick having one of his best seasons of his cup career Juan Pablo Montoya taking a step backwards as a cup driver Carl Edwards still hasn't won a race this season Dale Earnhardt Jr having an another bad year despite having Mark's crew from last year 37. petty43 posted: 10.17.2010 - 11:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) to post 18 DSFF if you are looking for an old scholle driver who had a arc like jamie take a look at jim paschal or believe. also dont let the trolls get you to post 28 i dont want to hear the kyle is only 25 bullshit, he has been driving cup since he was 18 and he drives for the most respected owner in the series and acts like a d bag all the time. he has over 300 starts in cup n wide and trucks. if he has not matured by now then he is just a driver with a flaw, not immature. he has a weakness and you have to admit that it is costing him. combine his talent with jeff burtons attitude and you have the perfect jimmie killer, but his inailty to recognize that proves his stupidity. some drivers just never stopped acting like children, most of them were well liked, but they never won titles, examples of these would be fireball cutis turner tim richmond and more recently kyle and his brother. when kyle stops blaming others and starts to man up he will win a cup, but as long as he has to always worry about finding a scapegoat he will continue to be his own worst enemy. by the way most people are married with children, with a mortgage and college educated by the time they turn 25 in my world. jesus when i was a kid people were really forced to be mature by like age 16. but i am old 38. petty43 posted: 10.17.2010 - 11:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) also with all this talk about his supposed immaturity i forgot to mention that the king of restarts was beat by a guy who sucks at them, who has not done shit in nascar for 5 years, in vastly inferior equipment. the badass driver who has all the talent was beat by the nice guy who has never even been in a chase, kyle busch is an overrated driver that can operaret in the clutch and clearly ned to race more nationwide races. i am sure that will fix his problems. 39. petty43 posted: 10.18.2010 - 12:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) i doubt that kulwicki, rudd bill elliot would have affected jeff gor don that much. now davey allison that is the greatest rivalry that never happened. earnhardt was just fine and gordon was whopping his ass and dale senior would have been the first to admit it. 40. petty43 posted: 10.18.2010 - 12:35 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) kyle has had way easier compettion than jeff gordon did, WAY WAY easier, kyle really should have had at least one 10 win season in cup by now. 41. petty43 posted: 10.18.2010 - 1:06 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) also why cant jeff gordon not screw up anymore god he has been around dale jr too much 42. Later it was found out the Dale hurt his neck in the same crash. Dale's season went south after that 2nd Talladega race of the year that he was involved a wrecked caused by Ernie Irvan. Dale was very close points battle in 1996 before that Talladega crash and I think he was leading on points before that wreck matter of fact. That wreck caused people to think Dale's resurgence in 2000 was contributed to to neck surgery he underwent to correct a lingering injury from his 1996 Talladega crash. I thought I knew a lot about him because I was fascinated by him and the way Dale revered him so much. But I learned quite a bit. It's like they said, an era died along with him. That was pretty much the end of drivers being themselves (except for the jackasses). Soon after he died a polished kid named Gordon came along, lit the sport on fire, and its been corporate clones ever since. I wish I could have been old enough to watch and appreciate him while he was here. He ran his last race when I was 3 years old. Needless to say I have no first hand memories of him. As far as "the next Tim Richmond", it is like looking for the next Dale Earnhardt or Richard Petty or Cale. It ain't gonna happen. Somebody compared Scott Speed to Tim. I don't mean to start a war of words, I respect your opinion, but I was actually offended by that. Scott has too much of that high school "hey, look at me, I'm different" while Tim was so natural. From a personality standpoint, we just have to appreciate the few true personalities out there that aren't complete DBags, such as Jamie Mac. Obviously he is worlds away from Tim, but he is his own person, isn't afraid to show that publically, and doesn't piss people off. That is about all we have to look forward to nowadays. 78. Its unfortunate that he pissed off his team enough for them to fire him. But he has carried himself with class and dignity through some pretty crappy times with that team before (2005, 2007, the second half of 2008, the first half of 2009) so he gets the benefit of the doubt. And the Gillettes (the true owners of RPM) haven't exactly been saints. Remember them trying to dump SADler right before the start of the season. Although I don't blame them one bit for trying to get SADler off the team, he has been nothing but an albatross for them, they signed him to a 3 year contract, then tried to dump him after Christmas. And I wouldn't sleep on Red Bull. They have some talented crew members and front off guys there. They won a race and made the cha$e with Brian Vickers last year. Vickers is a 20th place driver at best (I hope his recovery is going alright). It is just there drivers have been Scott Slow and mainly Reed Sorenson since Vickers had to step out. They both suck. Is Kasey gonna light the world on fire with them? No, but it is a step up from what he's been driving this year. I look for him to have a year similar to 2009 when RPM actually had revenue coming in. A few wins, the cha$e (if they can make it with Vickers, they can make it with Kahne), some mechanical failures. Basically the usual for Kahne's career to this point. Overachieving in 2nd tier equipment. I think once at HMS he'll be more like Mark in '09 (before they gave all his good crew members to Danica's car owner) than June. Surely by 2012 they will realize June is a lost cause, and he'll be in the last year of his contract, so the stacked deck they have on the #88 car will be evened back out for the #5 car. One last thing, speaking of Vickers cha$e run: Do you remember who he beat straight up for that last cha$e spot? The Immortal Kyle Busch. I'm telling ya, you put him in any situation in Cup where he has the chance to do something truly important and he folds faster than a house of cards. Never sniffed a Cup title and never won an important race. I know he dominated the '09 Coke 600 before rain and rain strategy doomed him, but he dominated this race too.
