Martinsville Speedway's two race dates need to go to Chicagoland and Homestead with Casinos being built at the two tracks. 3. Pretty good race. Next is Talladega. :D 4. 12345Dude posted: 10.24.2010 - 6:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Wow Kurt Busch acted like he was 2. Kevin Harvick acted like he was 2. What a surprise. I really wish I was around when the drivers actually didn't act like asswholes. Must of been fun. Tell me if I'm going crazy but nascar does throw all these fake debry cautions to bunch the field up. Why wouldn't they throw a caution when guys were wrecking when Dale Earnhardt Junior was leading? And Hamlin was good on the long runs and Jimmie was good on the short runs. So when people were wrecking in the end why was there no caution? And what does it matter because if Jimmie would of said something bad nascar would of secretly fined him 100,000 dollars. Man I wish I was around when nascar and wrestling were good. Do you think I'm on to something...why wouldn't they throw a caution in the end. Really hope Dale Earnhardt Sr fan forever replies, respect him a lot. 5. Anonymous posted: 10.24.2010 - 6:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This was a great Martinsville Race. Dale Earnhardt Jr. leads his most laps in a race since the 2nd Richmond Race. Kevin Harvick had his best race at Martinsvillie ever. Brad Keselowski gets his first top 10 of the year. Good run by Ken Schrader in an underfunded car. The chase is 2 team battle currently between Jimmie and Denny. Kevin does have an outside shot to win the chase. I think Talladega will answer who will be contention for winning the cup title. 6. NASCAR let it play out. "And what does it matter because if Jimmie would of said something bad nascar would of secretly fined him 100,000 dollars. So why did they not throw one this time when there were people wrecking compared to the times they threw a caution for nothing. That's what I'm asking. "Jimmie never said anything bad about the no caution" If anybody says anything bad about nascar they fine them 100,000 without telling anyone. I expect Harvick to run really well next week, and I really believe if he does that the gap will tighten even more after 'dega. There is no time for mistakes now. If not for the Chase, Harvick could coast to the title this year, and his performance this year basically backs up my earliers comments this year and last year about how he is better than Kenseth and a lot of other current drivers for that matter. btw, Jr's back!!! 14. There were different cars during the race that appeared to the car to beat. Denny Hamlin wins his third Martinsville race in a race. Talladega is the key race for Jimmie and Denny right now. If those two wreck, Kevin will be back into title contention. Right now Kevin has an outside shot to the title, but needs the other two have a mid pack finish for Harvick getting very close into the lead for points. 16. 12345Dude posted: 10.24.2010 - 7:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Good points guys after Talladega Kevin Harvick could be in title contention! 17. It was so good to see Dale Jr finally up there leading a race, and not just by staying out on old tires or through green flag pit stops. He started in the top 10 at both Richmond and Charlotte and dropped like a rock, yet he qualified badly in the next races at New Hampshire and Martinsville and ends up in the top 10. That's proof to me that the team's real problem is consistently bringing good cars to the track, cars that don't turn in one good lap on Friday and stink on Sundays. So Brad finally pulled off a top 10, drawing him even with Sideways Sam. Too bad it took him 35 races with the #12 team and driving on the curb and wrecking Reutimann to do it. "Why the HELL wasn't Kurt Busch parked for 5 laps??? Blatant retaliation, hooking the 24 around and wrecking him?" Why wasn't Jeff Gordon parked at Sonoma for his over aggressive driving? Jeff spoiled Kurt's day in that one, so it was only fair for Kurt to pay him back. This ended Jeff's streak of 15 straight top 10s, going back to the 2002 fall race here. This was the first time that Jimmie didn't lead a lap at Martinville since the 2005 season. 18. potatosalad48 posted: 10.24.2010 - 7:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #12 FINALLY gets a top 10. 19. This was the first Cup race I got to see in person this year (I couldn't make it to the Monday race in the Spring) and Brad finally gets a Top 10. I'm gonna sell all my possessions and just follow the Cup tour next year. Just kidding. He ran a nice race. He had about a 15th place car, but he and his team hung in there and for the first time all year got the car better at the end of the race. Better late than never I guess. Maybe he's finally getting a groove in the Penske Dodges. Although I'm glad Kurt stood up to Jeff (remember, Jeff wrecked him out of an MVille race in '05), I just don't like spinning people intentionally on the straightaways. It is wrong. It was wrong when Dale did it to Darrell in 1986, it was wrong both times Carl did it to Brad this year, and it was wrong today. Kurt should've waited until the corner and backed him into the wall there. @ #4: NASCAR definitely picks and chooses when they want to throw cautions. I think the biggest thing is they are trying to tighten up the points race. They didn't throw a late caution at Kansas when Biffle had a huge lead cause JJ had the fastest car and would've won, and today Mark would've won with a late caution (he was FLYING!!!) taking 15 points out of Denny's pocket. The result is the margain is only 6 points. So it's working. I don't like it, but it's working. And yes, drivers today can't handle being RACED. 23. ams391221 posted: 10.24.2010 - 7:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Glad to see Mark Martin finally have a car able to contend for the win. 20 more laps and he would've been all over Hamlin. Seriously, he was a straightaway behind Hamlin with around twenty laps to go and he gained about two thirds of that time up at the end. It took Kyle Busch a handful of laps to pass Jimmie near the end, and what did it take Mark? Two turns! There is no doubt in my mind that he would have won this had there been ten to fifteen more laps. Hats off to Jr for having a legitimately good run, Ken Schrader for getting a top 20 in what is normally a low scoring car, and Brad for getting his first top ten of the season (Even if it is half year late) 29. And I can't stand him. I wish the race were 10-15 laps longer so Mark could have had a chance at Denny. Brad Keselowski finally gets his first top-10 driving for Penske. It's about damn time! I'm not going to jump to any conclusions and say that his performance will turn around, but it is very good for that whole team. Hopefully they can build on this. Steve Letarte made the right call to get Gordon track position by having him stay out, but on the next pit stop they lost five spots, getting him back in the pack to get wrecked. Two weeks in a row Kyle and Jimmie have had great late race battles that have been pretty clean with the roles reversed today from last week. Jaime McMurray overcame a pit road penalty early in the race to finish 11th. Ken Schrader's first race since Phoenix in Nov., 2008 and first lap led since the spring Talladega race of 2008. Brad Keselowski wrecked David Reutimann in an act of stupid driving as Brad got on the grass, went over the curb and right into the #00. Dale Jr finally scores his 150th top ten. Martinsville has become basically his best track while in the #88, second best would probably be Daytona or Talladega. Kahne finishes ahead of his old team in his first ride in the #83. In qualifying and during most of the race, the #83 and #9 could never get away from each other. I didn't like the move the #26 made, to stay out and restart on the front row, and then bunch up the field because Ken couldn't get going, and drop to 20th in two laps. If he gets caught up in the big one, he'll be with him. That way there he avoids any major point swings. We gotta give Hamlin credit....he knows exactly what he has to do to win this thing. And so far, he's held true to everything he said he'd do. 60. suomynonA posted: 10.25.2010 - 2:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #81 J.J. He is the most comfortable out front (compare to Denny saying "I like being behind and chasing") and he stepped into HMS and yanked the alpha dog status right out of Gordon's hands (never thought I'd see that). Rock solid mentally and doesn't stir shit up and cause himself unnecessary distractions by calling out other drivers/teams and tooting his own horn (unlike Hamiln and Harvick). Kenseth- underrated. Roush has really held him back. He doesn't mind not being the center of attention, in fact he actually shies away from it. He is only the third most visible Roush driver despite him being the former champion and making all but one cha$e. Excellent chassis man. Jamie Mac- Gets along with everyone, has his confidence back, and just seems to bring the spirits of everyone around him up. Kasey Kahne- Even with this current Gillette debacle going on, I'd want him. He has overachieved throughout his career. Plus all the girls love him, so sponsorship would be easy to get (Ladies and Gentlemen, driving the #5 Tampax Chevrolet, KASEY KAHNE!!!). Funny story, at this race, right before Kahne was introduced, I leaned over Dad and said "prepare to hear all the girls scream". They did. 69. It's his 3rd straight at Martinsville and 4th overall. It's also his 9th career pole, and first time he's won from pole since he swept Pocono in his rookie season in 2006. Mark Martin gets his best finish of the season in 2nd, his first top five since the Coke 600 in May. Kevin Harvick gets his best career finish in 19 starts. It's also his 75th career top five. Kyle Busch reaches the 10-top-five mark for the 4th time in 6 seasons, although he's never had fewer than 9. He ties his best finish at Martinsville with his fourth 4th place finish in 12 starts there. Jimmie Johnson fails to lead a lap at Martinsville for a 2nd straight race, after leading at least 42 laps in each of the 8 races previous. It's also the first time he hasn't at least finished 3rd at Martinsville in a season since 2002. Joey Logano has back-to-back top tens for just the 2nd time this season. He's scored the 9th most points of anyone during the Chase, 3rd among non-Chasers. A week after Kevin Harvick did it, Dale Jr. becomes the 43rd driver to have at least 150 top tens in his career. Carl Edwards gets just his 4th top ten in 13 starts at Martinsville, but he finished 8th in both races this season. Jeff Burton led the most laps at Martinsville this season, leading 274 of 1008 laps; he led the most laps in this race, 134. But he only has finishes of 20th and 9th to show for it. Brad Keselowski picks up his first top ten of the season, ending the #12 team's streak of 79 races without a top ten dating back to August of 2008; 12 races for Newman, 33 for Stremme and 35 for Keselowski. As long as you can drive a race car I'll give you a thumbs up. 2nd of all, as a Canadian, I'm not disrespected by comments by americans because it's been proven that Canadian people are more intelligent than Americans. But Americans are more successful than Canadians, because people from Canada tend to be laid back and are followers not leaders. Do I care if somebody makes a racial/prejudice joke. No I don't. I don't care enough about people to spend time making fun of them. We as a society have much more to worry about then people who decide to change genders. Maybe if we developed children to be proud of who they are no matter what their race/gender/image is, we'd all be more successful. And DSFF is correct, I couldn't live without americans. If the USA really wanted to be A-Holes they could ban all american media, and we wouldn't be allowed to watch NBA/NASCAR/NFL. We strongly depend on Americans resources, as without them, we'd probably be watching our crappy TV stations for 24/7. 120. But I just re-read it and it came off a lot more serious than I intended. I apologize for that. Honestly, there is hardly any difference between America and Canada (apart from French-Canada). But to my knowledge, O'Connell (as Hayes) had her moment of glory, then receded into private life to sort out what must've been a very difficult and degrading -- given her former choice of profession -- personal conflict. Given that motor racing, for all its posturing about diversity, is still a man's sport (and that's why I like it, though I'd never admit it to a girlfriend), it's seemingly incomprehensible that any driver should want to relinquish their masculinity, when those traits commonly associated with us are indispensable aspects of a driver's competitive fabric. Tolerance has never been a virtue of motor racing culture, but I think the way Ms. O'Connell went about it is worthy of our acceptance, or at least insouciance if you have a rather stringent view of gender and sexuality. It's not our place to judge. If anyone found the original comment distasteful, you should have explained why and politely ask the author to stop. There was no need for it to escalate into an argument simply because a pithy retort was more biting than a cogent objection. We're certainly all over the map this week, so I can only say that an attractive woman is an attractive woman. I'd eagerly go out on a date with Kerry Washington -- what normal American male wouldn't? Furthermore, I'd like to caution everyone away from the stereotype I see being purported here, whether in jest or seriously. For NASCAR to become a national phenomenon, it had to repudiate any connection it might have had with those reprehensible elements of Southern society. If you find certain facets of NASCAR's formation and existing audience base so repellent, then don't follow it so intently. In my experience, there is an inverse correlation between one's political knowledge and how fervent your style of arguing. Those who make their objections rationally and calmly (e.g. Charles Krauthammer) try to present an interpretation of facts; those who rely on sensationalism about how our freedom is endangered (thought crime!) have only histrionics and incontinent rage. As a Rockefeller Republican in arguably this country's most liberal state with no great love for President Obama, I don't have time for the latter. In any event, this is not the proper forum for a political or social debate, so let's try to re-direct this discussion back to Martinsville or Talladega where it belongs. 122. Most of us, myself included, watch sports like NASCAR to get away from this crap (which I admit I egged on). I never meant any disrespect to JT/Terri, I just thought it was funny for some of the reasons Critic mentioned. The ultimate masculine sport had a transgender driver. And I felt the reaction was way over the top. But I said my piece, and I'm ready to move on. How about this points battle? Can Harvick not implode under his frist real shot at a title. He's already acting even chippier than normal, bumping Denny in practice at Dover (and losing valuable practice time), hitting Burton under caution. He's always been a ticking time bomb anyways, what will having the best cars (along with Denny) and a real championship opportunity do to him? Can Denny handle not only the regular title pressure, but the additional pressure he has put on himself with his mouth? And can JJ grind a title out for once. In his previous 4 titles, he had the fastest car over the final 10 races, didn't make mistakes, won 1/3 of the cha$e races, and basically sucked the souls right out of his competitors like Shang Tsung. Now he doesn't have the speed advantage. A championship this year would really increase his standing as a driver. 123. Smiff_99 posted: 10.28.2010 - 11:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think so far, Denny's done everything he said he'd do. He said he was going to win Richmond.....he won Richmond. Same thing at Martinsville...and he hit most of his finish targets in the first 6 chase races. His strategy (until Martinsville) was mostly defensive; to merely keep pace with Jimmie. Then he went to Martinsville, and turned it up a notch. If nothing else, he's the biggest threat yet to Johnson's title streak. Of course, we won't have a clear picture of where everyone stands until after this weekend. Imagine this scenario: Harvick, Johnson, AND Hamlin all get caught up in a small wreck 10 laps in and end up finishing in the deep 30's. Meanwhile, Kyle Busch survives the 500 miles and snags the win. All of a sudden, Busch goes from 4th place, 177 back, to about 3rd place, 40 points back. The first five races this year were mediocre for him, but it looks as if he bounced right back up from that. It's really a testament to his season that I can't stand the guy and yet I'm still able to say this. I don't think Harvick is going to make a challenge to Johnson the way Hamlin is, unless he wins this weekend. 127. DaleSrFanForever posted: 10.29.2010 - 2:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't see JJ or Denny getting involved in an early wreck unless they cut a tire cause they will probably be riding around in the back until the end. I hate it, but I have to admit that is exactly what I would do if I were in their position. And as far as Denny having the advantage over the last 3 races like he says, I wouldn't be so sure of that. In the cha$e, JJ has crushed him on the intermediates. Remember, after Loudon he was 92 points behind Denny. 3 races later, after Dover then 2 low banked intermediates, Cali and Kansas, he had the points lead. We don't know what JJ can do at Homestead cause he's never had to do anything except finish midpack or better. So if I were Denny I wouldn't be so confident. 128. Denny's won most recently at the intermediates, Michigan back in June. He also had the best car early in the race at Atlanta until his engine blew, and finished 4th at Charlotte. Harvick won the 2nd Michigan race and has top tens in the last 3 intermediate tracks. Jimmie had that mid-Chase hot streak to take the point lead but the 11 team should be able to turn it on in these last few races. But Harvick's my pick to win this weekend at Talladega, and he should finish top 10 in the last 3 races so any bad luck from Denny or Jimmie would swing everything in Happy's favor. I'm just happy that the 3 most deserving drivers, the most consistent over the season and the two most dominant, are the only ones left in contention. And even Kyle would deserve it if he somehow found a way to get back in it, i.e. Smiff's scenario. 131. 18fan posted: 10.29.2010 - 7:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Denny also needs to remember that Jimmie was way better than him at Texas in the spring and would have won it if there was another lap. However, Denny is as good of a flat track driver, so they should be even at Phoenix, although Jimmie's won 4 of the last 5 or something like that. Remember though in the two years Jimmie needed Homestead to win the title he finished third and 40th and Denny is the defending winner at Homestead. Harvick will be the best at 'Dega and is also a good flat tracker, so it will be interesting. 132. Ryan posted: 10.29.2010 - 8:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "How about this points battle? He has some great cars, but he's driven it a lot better than Burton and Bowyer.
