Remember that I was worried about him being in the slowest car in the field with no experience at all, and what that may mean for other drivers in the race, especially those with faster cars. But if he remains "one of the slower" cars, if not a car of middle of the pack-type speed, as he demonstrated in qualifying, then I think there's a lot less to worry about as far as Moffitt constantly being in the way, and that was my biggest fear regarding Moffitt in Sunday's race. Kudos to Moffitt for his qualifying run. Now if he can finish the race Sunday without trouble, much like what Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. did in the fall race at Dover in 2012, when he finished 12th, then I think this weekend will have been an enormous success for him. And Talk4Tar (#17), racing IQ, or what I call track sense, regards more than just driving ability, but rather other things that can't necessarily be seen, such as the ability to stay out of trouble (i.e. stay out of wrecks and not cause trouble for others) and not make mistakes, such as errors on pit road, and simply getting onto pit road is a challenge for even the most experienced drivers at Dover, so if someone like Moffitt makes that error, he can certainly be forgiven, since some of the greatest drivers in NASCAR have committed that mistake. Driving talent is one thing, but beyond that is what some call racing IQ and what I call track sense, and drivers without the greatest ability have survived because they have track sense, which is the ability to stay out of trouble, while more talented drivers often get into trouble. 19. After all, I remember that Stewart's caused at least two major pileups that I know of in the early laps at Dover in the last 5-7 years, one by running into Elliott Sadler when Sadler drove the #19 car for what we know now as Richard Petty Motorsports (I don't know if the organization was known as RPM then) and another one when he got into Joey Logano, causing Logano to barrel roll in turn three when he drove Tony's old #20 car for JGR. And with the volatile Stewart starting directly behind Moffitt, that's s a possibility. And as bad as Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. has been faring lately (and it was no better for him in qualifying today), what in the world is Carl Edwards doing qualifying behind him in the same equipment at a track where he's won multiple times? If they were among the front runners, that would be one thing, but Stenhouse qualified 26th (which seems to be his favorite position lately, since that's about where he seems to run almost everywhere), and Edwards was a lowly 29th. Now I don't expect Edwards to stay back there, but him qualifying so poorly at a place where he's been so successful has to concern his fans after such a great couple of weeks at Charlotte. 22. In fact that whole crash was caused by Sadler getting squeezed into the wall, then sliding back down into Smoke's path with a bunch of others piling in behind 'em. Same thing may have happened when Logano barreled rolled too. And btw, RPM was called Gillett/Evernham Motorsports back then. 23. But the fact that someone as good as Edwards is at Dover would do that is mystifying. After all, he's experienced enough to know he can't overdrive the car there, if that's indeed what happened. But putting himself that far back in the field does make him susceptible to being involved in an early multi-car crash, which could very well happen. Of all the tracks on the circuit, Dover is the most likely place for such an incident to occur, except for the restrictor plate tracks, and there have been some "big ones" over the years at Dover. And Edwards' apparent miscue in qualifying has put him around some drivers he doesn't need to be around, so he's going to have to be careful in the first 8-15 laps before picking his way through the field, which we know he's capable of doing. 27. 111111 posted: 05.30.2014 - 11:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Meh I'm a huge Carl Edwards fan and to be completely honest I love it when he qualifies terribly. That's because, for the first time, Penske's team can use setups similar to what they use in the IndyCar series because they're no longer bound by the rules as to how low they can run a car. If you need any more proof of that, Chip Ganassi's team has all of a sudden become a front runner, especially when it comes to qualifying, and with the new rule changes, I don't think it's an accident. They've got decades of experience in IndyCar racing (and in Ganassi's case, more than a decade in sports car racing), where you set up the car to run as low as possible, but until this year, NASCAR's rules prevented that in NASCAR. But with the elimination of the rules mandating a minimum height from the ground, Penske and Ganassi can now use their experience at setting up cars low to the ground to their advantage, and we've seen the results all year long. So the rules changes have played right into Penske's and Ganassi's hands, and they've taken full advantage of it. 33. There is some major stuff in Richard's life that backs it up. Richard went to a lot of races before he became a race car driver and he did know a lot of the people in in the early years of NASCAR including Raymond Parks and he wasn't watching in the stands either. Richard Petty did say in the past that he worked with his Dad before he was allowed to be a race car driver when he turned 21. This is a big deal in Richard's life because Richard needed employment before he turned 21 years old since Richard did graduate from High School. I didn't think Richard did nothing illegal from the time he graduated from High School to the time he turned 21 in terms of earning money. The either thing is Family members working for pit crews isn't far off at the time since there is picture of Phil parsons as a teenager holding a pit sign for the race team his much older brother Benny Parsons was on. Richard either graduated in High School in 1955 or 1956 and that is a good sized gap on Richard's life since Richard wasn't allowed to become a race car driver b 34. Burton got in the #30 car, Edwards got in the #99 car, and it was a win for both organizations. Edwards contended for a title in 2005, and Burton would contend for a title the year after that (in 2006), and was the team leader they had not had since the death of Dale, Sr., even though Kevin Harvick was their top performer. All of what RCR did in the second half of the last decade (and through last season, really) can be traced to signing Jeff Burton in the middle of the 2004 season, because they were a rudderless ship prior to that. 44. epzik8 posted: 05.31.2014 - 7:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Fox's last Cup race until the 2015 Daytona 500. That's really the only problem I have with their commentating team. Their expert commentators are the best, because they pull no punches, and Larry McReynolds is in a perfect position for him, because TNT actually puts him in his area of expertise. But they could put Ernie Johnson, Jr. on their NASCAR telecasts, and it couldn't be much worse, if any worse. One thing that will be interesting is how FOX handles the later part of their NASCAR schedule beginning next year, because they get the entire first half of the season (like they did from 2001-'06), which actually overlaps with their newest venture, broadcasting the USGA championships, including the U.S. Open on Father's Day weekend, something that will almost certainly push the Michigan race to FS1 beginning next year, since the U.S. Open probably will, and should get top billing. (And I'll be interested how Joe Buck and Greg Norman fare on that. After all, he managed to finish second to Kyle Busch at California in one of the toughest races of the year to date, and unlike so many others that day, I don't remember him having any tire issues. And his win in the NNS race the day before may have been in NASCAR's race of the year to this point, albeit with three Cup drivers battling for the win in a NNS race (Larson, Kyle Busch, and Kevin Harvick), something I don't take into consideration. Those last 20 laps at Fontana in the NNS race was probably the best racing we've seen in any of NASCAR's three top series this season, so far, including the race at Richmond, which was pretty darn good, as well. I was wondering with all the hype he got whether or not he had the goods. Judging from what I've seen, he does have the goods. Now whether Ganassi can keep him up front or whether he has to eventually go somewhere else to fulfill his full potential, that's something for time to decide, but from what I've seen, Larson has the goods. 49. Actually, I believe the car is prepared by Ganassi while being run under the Turner-Scott banner. I agree with the rest of your post, though, cjs. With the exception of Daytona, where he ran too high and hit the wall, he hasn't really been prone to the typical mistakes that rookies generally make (and even at Daytona, he was able to get back into the top 10 after being mired 2 laps down before being taken out by fellow rookie Austin Dillon). Oftentimes you see rookies that are smart racers or that are extremely aggressive racers. Larson is both. He's very aggressive, but not so much to the point where he'll cause a wreck or do something else stupid. Austin isn't a dumb racer either, but he lacks the aggressiveness that Larson possesses, which is why I vastly prefer Kyle. Argue statistics all you want. You can argue that Austin has the lower series championships that Larson lacks. That's fine. But if you've actually watched races this year (particularly Bristol, Fontana or Texas), I don't know how you can still prefer Dillon. 50. Martin Truex Jr also came into Cup in that time frame, and even he has had a solid career although he should have a few more wins than he does. As you guys have already mentioned, TNT's NASCAR coverage is the best out there right now along with NBCSN's IndyCar coverage. I'm going to enjoy TNT and for that matter ESPN more than I normally do because this will be the last time we see them broadcast NASCAR for the foreseeable future later this year. 60. Now, one interesting thing there is that when Kyle first drove for the Wood Brothers, he did not originally drive the #21 car. That is because Hoss Ellington rehired David Pearson in 1985, and when he did, the Wood Brothers gave Ellington's team the #21 so that Pearson could use that number, and as a result, the Wood Brothers used car #7 in 1985 and '86. When David Pearson decided to go to what's now the Nationwide Series and not run any Cup in 1987, the Woods got the #21 back. But in the 1980s, he certainly was a car owner willing to give drivers a start, including Sterling Marlin, Dale Jarrett, Davey Allison, Lake Speed, and Pancho Carter, among others. Some of them worked out, and others didn't, but Hoss was wiling to give them their first shot in a competitive car. In fact, would we know much about Sterling Marlin or Dale Jarrett if it wasn't for Ellington giving them a shot? 64. I thought part of the reason that the Wood Bros. switched to 7 was because of their sponsor 7 Eleven. Perhaps it was just happenstance. With TNT starting next week, I wonder how RaceDay on FS1 will be run; whether they will go to the tracks like they used to or just run a show from the Charlotte studio. 65. numbah10hatah posted: 06.01.2014 - 12:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Anybody know of a good website to live stream the race from?? 66. This can't be helping them. They already have pretty low attendance, and now with track surface issues, the rumors about them losing a date may very well come true in the next couple of years (maybe even next year, since I'm pretty sure Nascar has been talking about drastic schedule realignments for 2015). 244. Well, at some point over the next few years, I think Dover is gonna lose a race. It may not be to Iowa, but they're probably gonna lose one. Dover's ownership group has been somewhat in shambles over the past few years. They were the owners of Gateway, Nashville, and Memphis, and all three of those tracks lost their dates (even though Gateway is back for the Trucks this year under new owners), so I have to believe that Dover itself will eventually lose one as well. They usually don't have great attendance (not bad, but not great), and now with potential track surface issues, I can easily see Nascar replacing one of the Dover races with a new track (probably either Iowa or a third road course at Road America or Mid Ohio). 345. It's the speed that I love, but I find technology has taken too many things away from the driver. In open-wheel and sports cars, we see high-tech gadgets on the steering that require the driver to have a special oneness with the car, but likewise they have lousy paddle shifters. NASCAR has changed from unruly tanks to easy-as-pie sedans. Sports cars and open-wheel have at least avoided power steering and superb cooling systems. The intensity of those series is what I love. But he also relished that and turned it into big business for him. Paul Page once said that Dale knew that someone had to wear the "black hat", and Dale was comfortable as the one wearing the "black hat", the guy everyone loved to hate, and that even drove him more. He was one of those guys that didn't care whether he was loved or hated. The only thing he cared about was that he was respected, and boy was he ever. And as for today's race, which I did not watch (and it seems that it was a good thing I didn't because it was a total mess, judging from what I saw in the earlier comments), the fact that the track was coming apart means that it will have to be repaved later this year. I don't know whether there's time to do it before the fall race, so they'll probably do it after the fall race, but when they do, it's obvious that they have to use concrete. After all, that track surface is the oldest on the entire circuit among the oval tracks at 20 years of age (it was laid down for this race in 1995), and the fact that the concrete surface lasted for 20 years is proof that they have to use concrete. After all, we know asphalt won't last 3-5 years with the force these cars are producing today, if it would last that long. But no surface can last forever, and the surface finally gave today. so to me, it's obvious what they have to use. And why is anyone surprised that Jimmie Johnson ran away with this one? There's a reason why he's next-to-unbeatable at Dover, and it's something everyone seems to be missing. Jimmie Johnson's racing background is that of an off-road racer, and the entries and exits of the corners are pretty much the closest thing you see on an oval track to the humps and bumps of an off-road racing course, whether it's an enclosed course like the old stadium courses, or the open terrain like what you'd see at the Baja 1000. So if there was any track that fits Johnson to a tee, it would be Dover. And with Jimmie getting his ninth Dover win in this race, it begs the question, can he go after the all-time records for most wins at one track. The modern-era record for most wins at one track is 12, held by Darrell Waltrip at Bristol, and the all-time record is 15, held by Richard Petty at a number of different tracks. I think Johnson can get to Waltrip's Bristol total of 12, though I think getting to 15 (Petty's record) may be a stretch. Aside from Petty's 15 wins at numerous tracks and Waltrip's 12 at Bristol, other high marks for wins at one track include Waltrip winning 11 times at Martinsville, 10 at North Wilkesboro, Dale, Sr. winning 10 times at Talladega and nine each at Darlington, Bristol, and Atlanta (on two layouts), Rusty Wallace winning nine times at Bristol, David Pearson winning 10 times at Darlington and nine at Michigan, Petty's 10 wins at Daytona, as well as Cale Yarborough's nine wins at Bristol. This shows what rarified air Jimmie's ninth win at Dover puts him in when it comes to most wins at one track. I only listed the others that I know of that won at one track at least nine times. Note that Jeff Gordon and Bobby Allison don't even have a track they won at that often, despite being third and fourth on the career victory list. So Jimmie, or anyone else winning nine times at one track, much less one as tough as Dover, is an amazing feat. 534. He is not what you call a nice driver on the track. Darrell Waltrip years ago once put that Dale had the best car control he seen, but Darrell also said Dale was if you hit me once, I'll hit you twice type of a driver. The fact is there has been tales of Dale Earnhardt Sr actually was a great guy off the track helping people after he died, but that stuff wasn't reported by the media while he was alive for a reason. Dale Sr. didn't want it to be reported because he want it to come out because of his image on the track and that shouldn't be a shock since Dale Sr. actually was great marketing himself and was a very good business man despite his 9th grade education. 535. Anytime the 48 does cheat (which is what, 3-10 times a year?), she (c) says NASCAR is out to get him because the sanctioning body is insanely jealous. She (d) violently hates any driver who beats Johnson outright (which is easy to if it comes down to driver talent). She (e) says Chase titles are worth more than real titles because Jimmie won them and if you think otherwise you're a crybaby, which is kind of ironic because she hated the Chase the first two years. She (f), if confronted, would resort to physical assault if you confront on these things, to the extent where yes she would throw deadly objects like knives or ceramic coffee mugs at you. Folks, I live at home with my parents, and this b-tch is my mother. However, I respect the folks on this board and have come to view them as my racing family enough where I will try to restrain my feelings for Johnson enough to only discuss things as objectively as possible."* Look, I don't pretend to know what exactly NRF goes through in his personal life, and I don't intend to speculate, but if any of you had a mother/father who acted like this regarding a NASCAR driver (or anything, for that matter), I would bet you any amount of money that you would grow to hate that driver, especially if you had already disliked him to begin with. I'm not saying you have to agree with what he says; I'm just saying that it's not completely unwarranted and that there's more of a reason behind it than meets the eye. (And one more thing: I have to say that I also can kind of sympathize with NRF, as my dad had a similarly shitty relationship with his mom and I can see the effects of it on him to this day. NRF has mentioned before that he visits a psychiatrist. Just...give him a break is all I'm saying.) 543. There have only been a handful of driver/track combinations that fit hand-and-glove, and the combination of Jimmie Johnson and Dover is on that very short list. Others that easily fit into this category include Darrell Waltrip and Bristol, Dale Earnhardt and Talladega (as well as the original version of AMS), David Pearson and Darlington, and Cale Yarborough and Bristol. Jimmie Johnson and Dover fit right up there with the others, and the biggest reason has to do with his off-road racing background. I remember reading one of Bill Center's racing articles many years ago when I was living in San Diego and reading that he felt Jimmie would be a dominant force in NASCAR for the same reason that Rick Mears dominated in IndyCar racing prior to his crash at Sanair Speedway near Montreal in 1984, and in both cases, Center cited their off-road racing backgrounds. In fact, if you watch the 1982 Indianapolis 500, Jim McKay and Sam Poesy even brought up Mears' off-road racing background in that broadcast, and why that allowed him to be so patient and why he would often let the race come to him in the longer contests. I believe that's also true regarding Jimmie Johnson, because he always seems to let the race come to him. While many think of him as being a driver that likes to run wide open all day, Johnson is, in fact, an astute tactician that lets the race come to him. He's always better later in the race than he is in the earlier stages of the race, which allows him to run his fastest laps later in the race when the early front runners are all struggling. That's one big reason why he's won so many races and championships. Johnson is also better later in the season than he is in the first 2-3 months, again a case of him letting the competition come to him, which is what we've seen the last two weeks. If you look at Jimmie Johnson's career, he's always been better the later the season goes, which has always been a key to his Chase success. I've never broken it down month-by-month, but if anyone here ever does, I'd bet that Johnson's biggest months are the hottest months, especially in terms of race wins. And even though he didn't come through two years ago, something that's not on Jimmie at all, he's always been at his best in the biggest moments (two wins apiece the Daytona 500, Southern 500, and the spring Talladega race and four wins apiece in the All-Star Race, the Coca-Cola 600, and the Brickyard 400, not to mention his six championships). The bigger the prize, the better he seems to perform, which is why his record in the Daytona 500 between his two wins in that event is one of the most puzzling things in NASCAR history. There are a rare few that seem to relish the big moment, and Johnson has always been one of those few athletes, regardless of the sport. 556. Sporting News mentioned that Jimmie Johnson himself said missing the Charlotte test and then having two tests scheduled for Nashville rained out likely put his team behind at the start of the year. Jimmie had surgery hernia surgery three days after the 2013 awards banquet and he was held back 10 days after his December 9th surgery. That meant Jimmie wasn't able to test at Charlotte on December 11th. Jimmie Had bilateral hernias in one on each side, and then a third one in his belly button and that was found middle of the season. I think Jimmie's 6th cup championship showed what type of driver he is since he had bilateral hernias during the chase. 563. But what I was referring to when I said that Jimmie generally lets the field come to him, both during a race and during a season is not limited to this season. He's generally done that his entire career. Jimmie has always seemed to get better the longer the season goes, and it's usually the Coca-Cola 600 that's the turning point in his seasons. This isn't always the case, but he's usually been pretty ordinary early in a season, but as the season goes on, he gets better, and that's always been the case with him, and by the two-thirds mark of the season, he's annually the guy to beat. For instance, in 2004, he won only four times in the season's first 26 events, two of which were at Pocono, and only one of those four wins were prior to the 600, but he then won four times in the Chase, three of which were in succession. 2008 was another example of this. He got off to a slow start that year, but caught fire when he needed to. Interestingly, his hottest start came in 2010, but that year, his cars were weaker at the end of the season than at any other time since he became the top driver in the series. It's also because of these slower starts that I think he'd have trouble winning the championship if contested over a full season, but because the field is reset after the 26th race, his tendency to start slower and then get hot in the middle of the season plays right into his hands, because whatever deficit he's at when the field is reset is rendered null and void. 565. numbah10hatah posted: 06.02.2014 - 9:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) From Alex Kennedy's Facebook page: "Well here's the announcement I promised everyone! Not a good way to end their 14th season covering NASCAR races. (By the way, I was watching the Memorial golf tournament, the finish of which was a fiasco in itself.) But the fact that this race drew the lowest ratings in FOX's 14-year history of covering NASCAR can't be good news going ahead for the future, as FOX will be covering the first half of the next eight NASCAR seasons. I think many fans have been turned off by the lack of quality racing, which as I've said before, can be directly attributed to the cars going way too fast to produce good racing. There are other factors, of course, but the fact that they can't produce good racing because of the speed of the cars is another thing that can't be a good omen going forward. There have been some duds (Vegas and Kansas - even though both were bailed out by great finishes), but for the most part I've enjoyed almost every race. And judging from my fellow posters on here, most everyone else seems to feel the same way. So I'm not sure if the ratings being low should be blamed on poor racing, because I feel like this has easily been the best first portion of a season that we've had in quite a few years. If there is one main thing that should be blamed for the low ratings, it should be Fox themselves. Since they rolled out Fox Sports 1, they've been dwindling more and more with their Nascar promotion (and all the other sports that they used to have heavy coverage of, like Soccer). All they care about now is contending with BSPN, and that means cramming in as many different sports as possible and devoting hardly any time at all to non NFL, MLB, or NBA sports. So I think the lack of promotion from their end is definitely part of it. But I wouldn't be worried about the ratings though, unless they REALLY start to consistently be in the toilet. With the number of televised races we have, having a turd every now and then is inevitable. 569. murb posted: 06.03.2014 - 1:44 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Actually, Kansas wasn't that bad of a race now that I think about it. NBC will be a refreshing change, F1 ratings have gone up 0.4 this year. I expect NASCAR to do atleast half that (0.2). I think that is easily doable, plus NBC has their show on 1 full year before they get coverage and are promoting races when they can. So people are fully aware that NASCAR will be on NBC next year. NBC got NASCAR back because they see value and NASCAR still has value. And for those of you that are running around like the sky is falling, the sky is falling in your own world. Not the NASCAR world. NASCAR will survive a downturn in ratings and attendence, continuing too move forward. I like how he was trying to cover up the Biffle to MWR story that DW spilled the beans about on the pre-race show Sunday. Regardless of what he said about Biffle, I still think both of them are gone from Roush. Biffle to MWR with 3M (Mikey's panicked face as Darrell dropped that hint is the tell tale sign to me), and Carl to either a JGR or Penske expansion team (Penske now does seem like the slight front runner). And unfortunately for Ryan Blaney, he's probably the odd man out at Penske if Carl does go there. Kind of like what happened to Brad at Hendrick. Brad was considered a sure thing to take over the 5 car, but then Hendrick and Mark Martin decided to run a couple more years together after almost winning the 2009 title. So it looks like Ryan might be in a similar situation here at Penske if Carl does in fact end up there. Hopefully Ryan would be able to land with another good team like Brad did, because he without a doubt has a bright future ahead. Hell, I would actually love to see Blaney hook up with JGR. I really like Darrell Wallace a lot, but he seems to be regressing a bit this year. So maybe if Blaney is ousted from Penske, he could end up as JGR's new plan for the future and be groomed for their long awaited fourth car (or maybe take over the 11 if Denny leaves after next year, which could be a possibility). 591. murb posted: 06.04.2014 - 6:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I also hope Ryan Blaney gets some consideration for the 21 car though, regardless of if he's back with Penske or not. If he is back with Penske, then he can run the "Trevor Schedule" in Cup while running full time in Trucks or NNS again, and if he's not back with Penske, he can still be in the 21 part time along with a full time ride in NNS with one of the other Ford teams (Roush or RPM). So that could be another viable option for Blaney. 592. That may not be Wallace's fault. Don't forget that he's driving for KBM and Kyle Busch has ran 4 of the 5 truck races this year. David Smith over at motorsports analytic's had a great article last year about how the performance of KBM's "other" teams drops when Kyle Busch is running, and how the odds of the "other" trucks having mechanical problems or failures skyrockets as well when Busch is in the field. With Kyle running just 1 of the next 6 trucks races I expect Wallace to improve greatly. 593. Penske doesn't have another legit developmental prospect, other than maybe Tyler Resdick, who is years away from Cup. Plus, the Keselowski and Blaney situations are different in that Brad was ready for Cup after '09. Blaney still needs a couple more years before he should be considered. Speaking of Brad, Penske signing Edwards could signify the beginning of the end for Keselowski's tenure there. He's basically turned into Kurt Busch 2.0: championship-caliber talent that can't keep his mouth shut. We all know how well that worked out for Kurt. If Logano continues to out-perform Brad like he has so far, I don't think it's a stretch at all to say that Brad might be done at Penske after 2015. 594. murb posted: 06.04.2014 - 6:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I actually think Blaney will be ready for Cup sooner than most people think. As long as he gets one more year of seasoning next year, I think he'll absolutely be ready for a full time Cup ride by 2016. So I don't think it's inconceivable at all for him to start thinking about other plans, should Carl go to Penske. And while I see your point about Brad leaving Penske at some point due to attitude problems, I don't think it will happen. Brad isn't nearly as psycho as Kurt was during his final years there (not saying that Brad won't become that way, but his head would REALLY have to blow up to get to that level of douche-ness). The only way I could really see it happening is if Carl goes there and it is just a total disaster for team chemistry (like what CJS thinks it'll be). I could see Brad being the odd man out in that situation since his contract runs out, but as long as he keeps his brashness inside the race car and doesn't pick a fight with Roger Penske himself (like what Kurt did), I think he'll be staying at Penske for quite a while. 595. He'd be teamed with the man (Keselowski) that he tried to kill (figuratively) just a few years ago! After those run-ins Carl had with Brad in 2010, like Atlanta and Gateway, that would be hilarious if the two were paired up. Also, I don't think Keselowski has been anywhere near the "psycho" that Kurt Busch was. Brad surely has made an ass of himself a few times by opening his mouth, but he's never completely disrespected his team owner or tried to intentionally wreck another driver (Martinsville this year wasn't an intent to wreck, he was just rubbing him). I think the Captain feels good about keeping Brad. 599. JoeFan#66#87#8 posted: 06.05.2014 - 1:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jayski now has Timmy Hill in the #66. Kyle will drive like Kyle Busch, driving it till the wheels fall off, then he'll throw the wheel at somebody (probably his Crew Chief) and will go back to his "I AM GOD!" addituide in victory lane. so when I say "He'll drive like Kyle Busch" take that as both good and bad Denny, he scares me, I don't want to see him get hurt again Carl and and Kenseth will keep their cars clean so their purse money will be invested to rebuilding the cars Kyle and Denny (mostly Kyle) will destroy and will Gibbs put him in a Nationwide car again? so will the #18 Nationwide car be split between Denny/Matt/Carl? if so that means less wins for Kyle but the problem still won't be solved 602. jabber1990 posted: 06.05.2014 - 8:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) also, RPM has looked into going to Toyota, but TRD doesn't have the ability to build more engines as of now, so why would they build for 1(10) JGR? but not 2(20) for RPM? 603. Edwards to Gibbs would give them another championship contender in their stable. RPM isn't at that level yet. Secondly, supporting the expansion plans of an organization already under contract would take priority over signing up newcomers. TRD will make sure they have Gibbs and MWR supplied before they make any additional commitments. 604. The cup drivers doing the Nationwide 18 car for JGR would be Carl and Kyle. It is known fact that Denny doesn't like to do Nationwide races and Denny matter of fact only has made one Nationwide start since the start of the 2013 season based on what JGR has said last year. Denny as a driver really can't take a risk getting into a wreck in a Nationwide or a truck series car since Denny does have a history of back problems and even had a bad back before last year. That means Denny's cup sponsor's limit what on racing activities he does outside of cup. 607. The bigger thing at JGR if Carl signs what the future of Darrell Wallace Jr. and Erik Jones will be. But what I meant by "when it rains, it pours" when it came to that is that, while on different levels, Ed Negre became the third historic figure in the sport to pass on over just the last few weeks, and the second within five days. And the reason I consider Negre to be a historic figure was that it was Negre that gave Dale, Sr. his first shot in a Cup car, and as we all know, Dale, Sr. became one of the five greatest drivers in NASCAR history. Ellington's a historic figure because of all the great drivers he had in his cars, not to mention that his car was a central figure in what was likely NASCAR's most important race, the 1979 Daytona 500, and Jack Brabham's record speaks for itself. And all three of them have died within the last 3-4 weeks. 612. Nascar Lead Lap Points posted: 06.05.2014 - 10:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsor of #16 was 3M/RiteAid 613.
