Denny Hamlin spun out in Round 3's final minute, bringing out a red flag
with 39 seconds left in the session. As a result, only seven drivers
could finish the final round, as the red flag ended the session.

this sucks, NASCAR hands the pole to Kurt by throwing a red flag for
Denny Hamlins spin, a spin in which he completely straightened out and
drove for 5-6 seconds before they decided to throw the red, He didn't
even hit anything

Hoping either Martin Truex Jr. or Jeff Gordon will win on Sunday. Martin
Truex Jr. is far overdue for a victory and Jeff Gordon really needs a
win to secure a spot in the chase. He isn't locked in in-till a win and
13 races to the chase can bring A LOT of bad or good. Also, can't help
saying it was a pretty lousy call for NASCAR not to let 5 drivers get a
lap in. I mean, how is it fair 7 drivers get chance and 5 (Well, 4.
Because Denny Hamlin HAD started his first lap) Do not? I don't know.
Expecting a good race for some reason. I just seem to like Pocono a lot.

I don't think that was a lousy call as this same situation has happen
before in the Truck Series and they never added on time or let driver go
out for an extra lap. I think the lousy call as DB already said was
throwing the red for Hamlin given the fact he didn't hit anything and
was able to get the car back going.

One of the issues plaguing drivers this weekend has been the bumps in
turn 2, otherwise known as the famed "Tunnel Turn". Since Pocono was
repaved prior to the 2012 season, there have been two harsh winters,
which have created a pair of humps and heaves in the middle of the
track, and some folks have cast concern on the problem. But it seems
that drivers have now come to terms with it and will just have to deal
with it.

However, track president Brandon Igdalsky said he will do what he can to
find a remedy for the bumps before NASCAR returns Aug. 2. IndyCar is
also slated to race at the Tricky Triangle on Aug. 23, so there is only
a few weeks to do a repave on either side of the second NASCAR weekend.

In the old days they would leave the bumps there and it would just be a
tough track the drivers have to work with, and they all would.

But now we need to coddle the prima donnas and react whenever they open
their mouths to complain. Racing is not allowed to be interesting or
challenging anymore.

Yep.
A track gets a little bumpy and everybody loses their minds and starts
screaming for a repave.

Some claim Kentucky is an unfit track because how bumpy it is, rather
than being unfit to hold a race because it absolutely sucks.

The funny thing is that is actually what the Kentucky race commercials
tout as being the best thing about the track and the primary reason you
should see the race. "It's the BUMPIEST track on the schedule!" I know
that they have to come up with SOME way to make fans interested in the
race, but you can tell that they were grasping for straws...

In other sports news: Stan Wawrinka upsets Novak Djokovic to win the
French Open for his 2nd career grand slam title. I'm so happy for him,
after all those years of having to be the "second fiddle" Swiss player
in Federer's shadow, he is shining big time! He keeps Novak from
becoming the 8th player in history to win all four slams in a career(the
Career Slam).

Yeah, no matter how bad this race is gonna be, the Roland Garros final
has already made up for it. And there's also the F1 race from Canada
starting in less than an hour from now. But I actually have a good
feeling about how this race is gonna work out.

Martin Truex in the last three races became I believe only the second
driver joining Kevin Harvick last year to lead the most laps in three
consecutive races without winning any of them.

Can he set this dubious record? We need Marty Reid to formally
commemorate the occasion with a lot of pretentious citations of "history".

It's too bad, because I really do like Truex more than most of the other
current drivers.

thus, it is important for NASCAR to have two races in their sponsor's
backyard.

No track NEEDS 2 races. At least Dover Pocono and Louden are different
compared to the 1.5 mile tracks that dominate the schedule. Also Louden
is one of the few tracks that can fill up 90%+ of their seat for a race.
In all honesty even if you dont like the racing there it is one of the
few tracks that does deserve 2 dates still.

During the games yesterday, They showed a segment about Rusty getting
ready for this. During the segment, Rusty said he retired way to fast. I
have to agree with him. He quit in 2006. I think you could have had
easily another 4 years in him.

This is the first time a driver has led the most laps in four straight
races since Jeff Gordon in 2001.

As I said earlier, if Truex loses, this will be the first time EVER
somebody has led the most laps in four straight races without winning
any of them. However, he looks much better on restarts today than I've
EVER seen from him before so I'm starting to think he will do it.

Not to take anything away from Truex but Cole Pearn has made a huge
difference for this team. I've always thought Martin was a good driver,
but I never put him in that championship contender class that he is
clearly in this year. I really hope these two guys can stay together for

With his third career win, Truex has won at quite a variety of tracks:
Dover (mean, high-banked 1-mile oval), Sonoma (road course, enough said)
and now Pocono (tricky triangle).

Truex is the only guy involved in the whole Spingate scandal I actually
felt sorry for, seeing as he was the only one who didn't do anything
wrong and just ran his whole race, and didn't seem to have any knowledge
about his team's blatant cheating attempt to put him in the Chase. And
he became the fall guy for it, being the ONLY driver involved to suffer
any real punishment by basically losing everything he had.

Josh Wise finished 29th even with some damage from Moffitt's spin. He
only finished 1 lap down.

Landon Cassill had a nice 25th place finish with a lead lap finish.

Yeah, Stenhouse continues to do absolutely nothing outside of Bristol,
and Bayne...by now I'm all BUT convinced he isn't as great a driver as
some people thought he was. Yes, I know his supporters like racefangurl
and MAR will defend him through thick and thin (which is admirable) and
say the problem is that he's a good driver stuck in terrible
equipment...But I'm tempted to think that the equipment is only PART of
his problem. I mean, look at Biffle, he's had runs in or near the top 10
the past several weeks. And look at how the Roush cars run in the
Xfinity Series. I don't dislike Bayne at all or anything, and I
understand it has to be quite challenging for him to race full-time with
a debilitating disease such as MS, but I'm rapidly becoming convinced
his 500 triumph has led to him becoming overhyped.

I won't argue with the penalty Truex got; since the team got caught
cheating in a big way, I think it was fair the whole MWR team got
punished. But to have ALL of that on top of losing a spot in the Chase
happening to him (losing his sponsor, then getting released from his
ride) was more than excessive. Like I said, he was basically made the
fall guy at MWR for what happened; I guess they decided since he was the
driver who needed to race his way in the Chase, it was HIS fault that
everything happened.

been plenty fast all year but now they get a win on the toughest tracks
on the circuit congrats to that 78 bunch. Martin Truex Jr. gets his 3rd
Cup win with his third racing organization DEI, MWR and now Furniture Row.
* Ricky Stenhouse Jr. continues to show that these cars, this rule
package does not suit his style. But he just has not had the success in
the Cup series that he had in the XFINITY series. Finished dead last.
Just not sure what it is with Bayne or Stenhouse, they end up midpack or
just terrible racing luck. Greg Biffle is even running better. I think
that Bubba Wallace or Chris Buescher will end up taking one of those
driver spots when Roush feels like they can move those guys up. Roush's
driver lineup isn't scaring me, they don't have a Matt Kenseth or Carl
Edwards there anymore, guys who know their way to the front. Is it
drivers or the cars?
* Jimmie Johnson took advantage of the restarts towards the end, and
especially the poor restarts of Kevin Harvick to get third and jammed
everybody up. There was a great deal of hard racing and even Jimmie
Johnson himself got some damage on the side but still was able to get
third.

Truex will look to become the second driver to lead the most laps in 5
consecutive races in the modern era, only Earnhardt in 87 has done it.
Harvick can become only the third driver to score 9 runner up finishes
in the modern era. The record is 12 by Allison in 1972. It will be just

I'm pretty happy with how it all went this weekend. Trevor won the first
ARCA race he was in and was on lead lap in the Cup his first time at
Pocono. Joey was fourth in the Cup race after starting in the back and
having some trouble in the race, Truex won (he deserved it) and Landon
Cassill was on the lead lap, which is all good to me.

Has anyone read the latest stuff that has come out on the Hinchcliffe
crash? Apparently during the trip to the hospital, he was given about 14
pints of blood. (The human body generally only contains 10-11 pints.)
And this isn't counting whatever transfusions he received during
surgery. So this is basically to auto racing what the Clint Malarchuk
injury was to hockey; had the medical crew not reacted so quickly, both
men would have bled out within 5 minutes or so. Just unbelievable. I'm
so glad he survived, although it sounds like he's going to be out for
the remainder of the year for sure.

common. The site I read mentioned reacting to immediate problems for one
and excelling in jobs that require immediate action for the other. Not
surprised about the T, because that is linked with strong will. It's

ISTP's are the personality type most commonly associated with risk
taking careers/hobbies, including racing, due to their nature. They act
in what seems to be really out there and reckless things but actually
they've sized up the risks with their knowledge of the situation and
have decided it's worthwhile.

Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of NASCAR drivers are ISTP. They also
don't like it if something goes wrong and against what they feel is
right. That is ISTP material right there.

Of course there will be variety. We're only human...

The No. 63 Corvette Racing entry has been withdrawn from the Le Mans 24
Hours, after suffering a hard crash in the Porsche curves earlier today
with Jan Magnussen behind the wheel. Antonia Garcia and Ryan Briscoe
were scheduled to be the other two drivers. Such a shame for a team that
had a real chance of winnings its class at the prestigious race.

Anonymous just won the internet. Possibly the best comment on this site
ever. Hinch is more annoying then Kit and DSFF put together, which is
saying something. I'm no saint myself, but unlike RaceFanGurl I have a

Anyways Truex finally got a win. I wonder if the price was worth it, but

Last year, some nut posted hateful comments on the Chase Elliott page (I
visited the comment box on said page because it's trending) and I saw
Hinch defended him. I think the nut is worse than Hinch. But if Hinch is
really that bad, I don't think he'll be missed around here, should the
trolls have chased him away.

Yes but it appears that nobody on this site can argue without spewing
endless opinions dressed as fact so consider that much before anyone
criticises anyone else.

I personally liked Hinch, he knew a lot about motorsport and we often
joked together but he was one of those people who's opinions just
wouldn't change no matter what and he defended them fiercely. No bad
thing, but it meant when pushed by others (including myself) he could
cross the line. He could see the bigger picture but never appeared to
realise why that was important in a few cases.

There are a lot of worthless posts around here though. I'll miss him tbh.

Biscuits, it seems Hinch's defense of his opinions is why Walter White
called him annoying, based on what you said. I don't often change my
opinions. Other than my stance on rookie champs and all that goes along
with that, and deciding I kind of like Regan Smith, I haven't changed an
opinion since I first became a commenter on this site.

Imo any opinion is valid, unless proven to not make any sense by facts.
Facts, by their nature, do not lie and tell the truth. People can
interpret them however they want, but if they refuse to actually
acknowledge them or actually contradict nothing but evidence that has
been proven to apply to the real world, then that is when the opinion
should change, and Imo an individual should be open minded enough to
acknowledge the facts and alternative opinions and use this to form
their own opinions that comply with THE TRUTH. Using false reasoning
leads to opinions that have led to some pretty big disasters for
humanity. And also have contributed to some feisty arguments on here.

My issue is with the people who cannot see another side of an argument
(whatever their opinions, I must add) or if their opinions just
logically cannot make sense due to the above reasons. I also feel I
should comment on this because a lot of people on here like to present
opinions as stone wall facts and cannot see the other side of the
argument, and I want to beat them to the comments because otherwise this
will become yet another comments section plagued by ignorance and
arrogance like so many beforehand.

A pet hate of mine is pop culture opinions. Just because other people do
it doesn't mean it's right. Tbh as controversial as racefangurl's views
are, some of her posts actually raise a decent point but people have got
into the habit of hitting 'thumbs down' as soon as they see her name on
a comment. Read the damn thing. And what is 'thumbs down' anyway? One of
these cheap social media gimmicks that give people satisfaction and
power to humiliate and bully as much as to praise and appreciate. In the
end it's good for nothing.

I come on here pretty often but rarely post because I'm intolerant of
intolerance (kind of ironic) but it's the internet so stop me :p. This
thread looked lively enough and whatever people's perceptions on me are,
my views have some sort of backing like Biscuits was saying unlike a lot
of crap on here so I'm hardly out of place ;D

But I don't want a philosophical debate so I'm out :D

I must admit, I HAVE noticed that many comments made here that are
inflammatory, insulting, or aggressive in nature are done so
anonymously. Makes one wonder if some people here want to attack or
insult other people without fear of being called out for it...

I will agree with RichardHead that honestly the thumbs-down system needs
to go at some point in the near future. All it does is beg for someone
with too much free time to spam it and thumbs-down every single comment.
This comments thread is a very good example of that; look at how many
relevant comments on this race got thumbs-downed multiple times in
matter of minutes. Either someone thinks we are stating the obvious and
should shut the hell up, or someone wants to see if they can get
everyone pissed off and see how many people they can make leave the
site...I would say probably option #2 is the much more likely one, but
who knows?

I think people more than have the right to state their opinions, but I
agree that some people need to realize that opinions are NOT facts. In
particular, some people (I won't mention any names, but you can probably
guess at least one) seem to have a smug tone about their opinions and
seem to be trying to enforce them upon everyone else as the "correct"
way to think around here. Understandably, I do NOT like this and I don't
think too many people appreciate being told how they are supposed to
think or believe!

Anyone whose self-esteem is so fragile that they give a rat's ass
whether a picture of a thumb points up or down next to a comment they
post probably ought to get the hell off the internet entirely before
they swoon again after reading something else that offends their tender
little sensibilities.

It's a tough world out there and if a person can't even handle some
irrelevant anonymous criticism instead of shrugging it off or ignoring
it altogether, I don't like their chances when they have to face REAL
problems.

I would prefer we comment about *racing* here instead of about each
other, since that is what this site exists for.

I wouldn't object one little bit if the thumbs went away entirely (nor
would anyone else, I suspect), but TBH I don't even notice them as I
look at a comments page and the only time they become an issue is when
somebody starts crying about them, which gets back to what I meant in #325.

Of course the issue about criticism goes further than just the stupid
thumbs -- that's the least of it -- but if a person can't even handle
THAT....

It isn't so much the thumbs-down system itself that bugs me but the fact
that it is SO easily spammed. It doesn't really bother me all THAT much
(believe you me, if it actually did I would have quit this site the
first time I saw a comment of mine get a thumbs-down), but it does get
pretty damned irritating to see after a while...

Another thing I am not very fond of is fanboy-ism/fangirl-ism (which I
honestly haven't seen THAT much of on this site, but there have still
been occasional cases of it). That, of course, is when someone is SO
fond of something (in this site's case, a driver) that they believe that
their opinion of them is right and therefore makes the object of their
fandom completely immune to criticism. These are the types of people to
typically reply to arguments and/or criticism with the "YOU'RE JUST
JEALOUS!" response, a defense that (in my opinion) all but automatically
means having an intelligent debate with that individual is off. (The
best example I can think of this on this site is Mannoroth calling
everyone who dared to criticize Kyle Busch's constant dipping into the
lower series and his "quest for 200 wins" a bunch of "jealous haters"...)

Schroeder that is 100% how I feel. I've been victim of that too on
(would you believe!) the F1 from Hinch, which is what I mean about him
crossing the line sometimes, but we managed to calm down and have a joke
about it afterwords, which is why I liked him.

Ernest, I would too but I enjoy voicing my opinions about this sort of
stuff both irl and on the internet. And you can't stop me :p

But this is a racing site so perhaps a separate blog post on the
completely worthless thumbs up/down system I've never liked on this
site. Or a brand new website...

I have no shortage of critical comments to make too, but they are
directed mainly at NASCAR since it is an organization which frustrates
the hell out of me and (if I didn't know better, which come to think of
it I don't) seems bent on self-destruction or at least alienating its
longtime fans of which I am definitely one.

^This I concur with, it DEFINITELY seems to me that NASCAR is
CONSIDERABLY more interested in appealing to the young
"attention-span-of-a-goldfish" hipster generation of today who will
inevitably abandon the sport whenever something more "hip" and "cool"
comes along than to the actual long-time fans who legitimately CARE
about the sport for what it is than whether or not it's cool or
constantly exciting at every turn and corner...Look at what the people
on the fan council have said in the past years; the majority of people
on there actually want there to be MORE questionable cautions so there
can be more restarts and excitement...

The hipster generation probably includes me because I'm a 20-something.
And I'm a motorsports girl and don't care a straw about what's cool. If
it's uncool to be a NASCAR fangirl, then I'm not cool and that's ok. And
to mention racing. Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. qualified WAY worse than his
teammates, according to foxsports.com/nascar/racetrax. They made it to
Round 2 and he didn't. And Hendrick had a lagger, too. One of their guys
didn't quite make the final round.

@336: Agreed about F1 too. I have not been a fan of that series for
nearly as long as I've followed NASCAR, but it is supposedly the #1
racing series in the world as measured by fan interest.

I'm sure there are many factors I don't understand about F1 racing, but
it seems the preference of those in power is to have one driver or team
dominate a season so thoroughly that the other drivers (and their fans)
need not bother showing up at all.

In recent years 2010 and 2012 were far more enjoyable for me to witness
than 2011, or 2013-present. Since I have no vested interest in any
driver or team I just want to see good racing. The racing *can* be good
even if the outcome is a foregone conclusion but I'd rather see a good
battle for the lead (in a race or in the standings) than a good battle
for 7th/8th place.

2014 was the best season I can remember in terms of the quality of
racing. Yes, it would usually end up with a Merc 1-2 but which way
around? The midfield was the most competitive ever and there was loads
of epic wheel-to-wheel racing in plenty of Grand Prix.

However, because the Formula 1 fan base believes that if it isn't 80s F1
then it has to be awful and shout a lot, exaggerating small issues
whilst ignoring any positives, it's not going to be seen that way for a
while. I have a monumental issue with a lot of current F1 fans. I
genuinely borderline despise some of them and really don't think they're
fans at all. They want to pick out any flaws with it but ignore the
positives. It's actually quite worrying for their mental health. How can
you go about life with that attitude?

I can't be called a hipster because of my age and I started following
racing back in the 1980's back when my area of the Country was CART
Country, not NASCAR Country.

I was born in a time that Richard Petty didn't have 7 cup championships
yet and ESPN didn't even exist yet.

Matt Yocum, Chris Neville and Jamie Little were the pit road reporters.
Andy Petree was the in-race analyst. Chris Myers and Michael Waltrip
were in the Hollywood hotel.
