Add a race to Iowa, Road America, the Daytona road course and Gateway or montreal" Outside of Dover loosing a date and Iowa gaining one these are all bad ideas. Michigan will never loose a date due to it's ties with the manufacturers. Pocono and New Hampshire are unique tracks that still draw pretty good crowds. Both are deserving of two dates. Dover is unique too but it's attendance as taken such a nose dive it warrants loosing a date. As for the tracks adding one a race, Road America and Montreal are the two most overrated tracks that NASCAR has raced at recently. the racing IMO has never been good what happens is a boring to average race there has always been lucky and gotten late yellow which bunches up the field for a GWC. While the finishes have been good it doesn't mean the race as a whole was and a lot of people don't seem to get that. Also until NASCAR figures out how to use a local yellow it shouldn't touch Road America with any series. The fact it takes like 10 minutes to go around there under yellow are rather ridiculous and depending how many there are in the race it makes it borderline unwatchable. As for the other two track you listed Gateway doesn't really draw a large crowd for the truck race it has and while the racing is decent I dont think it warrants a Cup date, at least as of now. The Daytona Road Course while it's a decent idea NASCAR would never move one of the races away from the oval and even tho it's a different layout NASCAR shouldn't go to one track three times in a Year. IMO if you really REALLY think Pocono and New Hampshire should loose a date Moseport and Mid-Ohio would both be better choices as the racing there has been better than what has gone on at Road America and Montreal in the past. 31. 88&4Fan posted: 08.15.2015 - 2:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dover does not need to lose a date, and the attendance is just fine. The fact it's removed that many seats and it still can't sells out shows there's a problem there. Going to one race would more than likely help it's crowd size like it has with Darlington and Auto Club. It might be unpopular but in the long run the less is more approach is probably what is right for Dover. 33. Driver X posted: 08.15.2015 - 2:55 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) @30 Even though Pocono is a unique track, it needs to lose a date. Texas also needs to lose a date as well. Chicagoland needs to be moved back up to the week after the first New Hampshire race. IMO, Chicagoland being a chase race makes no sense. Kansas needs to drop its May date. I don't care about the fancy casino they supposedly built. And truthfully, even though Michigan has automotive ties, it, too needs to lose a date. A perfect season is 32 races, and the Chase should go as follows: 1. Richmond 2. New Hampshire 3. Dover 4. Talladega 5. Kansas 6. Charlotte 7. Martinsville 8. Atlanta 9. Phoenix 10. Homestead-Miami Or NASCAR could move the season finale back to Atlanta, that always works. 34. What apparently happened was back in 2010 Bruton Smith went to NASCAR and told them he wanted to move one Atlanta's dates to Kentucky to give it a cup race. NASCAR was willing to give the ok, but only if they (they really being ISC) got something in return. That something was they wanted was for one of their ISC tracks (Chicagoland) to host the Chase opener Bruton wanting the date for Kentucky agreed to the terms and thus Chicagoland became the first race in the Chase. 35. The 18 team is going to a backup, meaning Busch will start in the back. Another example of why NASCAR needs to go back to instituting a minimum-height rule on the cars. Not only will it help improve the racing (as the cars won't suffer as much from aero disadvantages like "aero tight"), but the cars won't destroy the front end when they spin through grass. 38. With the money NBC and FOX spent for the races there would more than likely try to get back the money they spent since it was for a 36 race schedule not a 32. Then you run into the problem of which network would loose races. I'm sure that would cause another huge mess. There's just to many things involve to make reducing the schedule a realistic option. 41. racefangurl posted: 08.15.2015 - 5:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) That Darlington change is something the old-time fans wouldn't like. The number one augment for this(that I've seen anyways) is people think NASCAR shouldn't be going up against the NFL in the fall so they want the season to end earlier. Personally I've never understood why people think this. It isn't like the NFL just came around 10 years ago, it's been a thing since before Bill France Sr. even thought of NASCAR. IMO a shorter schedule in general is just a bad idea and that's not even bringing into consideration of the millions of dollars NASCAR would loose if they reduced the schedule. 46. While I don't buy the NFL argument you still can't do that. If you push back the season into January you are now dealing with the NFL playofs. Same problem just at a different time. Also there's not that many tracks you can run that early in the year. Even states like Texas can get nasty ice storms in January. and I'm just thinking of the tracks in general never mind the weather conditions the guys driving the trucks to the track would have to deal with. I believe the Xfinity Series cut a couple races over the years, but that was in part due to tracks closing. Here's how I believe the schedule should go: Regular Season 1. Daytona 2. Phoenix 3. Las Vegas 4. California 5. Bristol 6. Martinsville 7. Texas 8. Richmond 9. Talladega 10. Charlotte 11. Dover 12. Pocono 13. Michigan 14. Sonoma 15. Kentucky 16. Daytona 17. New Hampshire 18. Talladega 29. Kansas 30. Charlotte 31. Martinsville 32. Atlanta 33. Phoenix 34. Homestead-Miami If cutting four races won't do any good, cutting two races is okay. (In this case, Texas and Kansas.) The Bud Shootout format should be Pole winners from the previous year, past year winners, and the previous season's champion (if they didn't win a pole) Race format: S1: 25 laps (10 minute half-time break) S2: 25 laps (Caution laps do not count) 63. There is ALOT of NBC bashing going on Facebook right now because most races are on the cable network NBCSN instead of the broadcast network NBC. Because of the 4th of July Spectacular that NBC covers every year would mean instead to demote the Cup race to NBCSN. You really want to anger fans and sponsors with a move like this? If NBC wasn't involved in this current contract, maybe I'd have a different opinion. Part of that would be because of TNT's home availability versus that of NBCSN. I want NBCSN to have at least one marquee on their network to better give the network a higher profile for sports and maybe even increase home availability, but something like Daytona should remain on broadcast tv when possible. 2. I like the idea of Darlington staying where it is now, Labor Day weekend. 3. Keep Las Vegas as race three, keep the idea of a West Coast Swing to curb transportation and other logistical costs. 4.I love seeing two chase wild card races in a row. Slotting Kansas in Sonoma's slot would kill that effect. Granted Sonoma was a meh type of race this year, it still can offer the chance for an upset victory to take place. May I remind you all the winner of the 2013 Sonoma race won for the third time in his career at Pocono in the spring of this year? If wild card races are an attention getter, why mess with that? I'll leave it at this for now. 73. Big Mac Fan posted: 08.16.2015 - 1:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 70- Looks good, but are you saying that the all star race should be in Iowa? 74. The current Sprint Showdown is close to the same distance as the Open and the No Bull Sprints, and I've always wondered if some of the smaller teams would benefit from a slightly different format that is more similar to the old Open and No Bull Sprints, as it gives those teams a couple of more chances to get on TV and be noticed by sponsors. I understand that some of the teams that are strapped on cash might not benefit from running another sprint race to qualify for the All-Star Race, considering that we've had start-and-parks and teams not even show up for the Showdown in the past, but I guess it's always worth at least a consideration. Of course, this would mean yet ANOTHER change to part of the All-Star format. Also, the Showdown needs to be run before the All-Star Race, in my opinion. 98. I also would prefer the drivers who raced their way in or were voted into the All-Star race having to start at the rear of the field like they used to rather than being given a chance to qualify with everyone else; I would like to see them have to come from the back to contend from the win rather than getting to potentially start the race up front. 104. Talladega 2 33. Martinsville 2 34. Texas 2 35. Phoenix 2 36. Las Vegas 2 The biggest change on here is that Atlanta is no longer on the schedule. I love the track but I fear that with the track needing a repave over the next few years and it's poor attendance Bruton will not want to pay for a repave and end up giving it's date to Las Vegas. Homestead gets moved to the second race of the year to keep the teams close after Daytona as Vegas gets the seasons last race. New Hampshire gets moved up a few weeks to try and avoid the hot temperatures it has during July. Lastly, Dover looses a date to Iowa which is placed in the middle of the season, and Sonoma gets moved to the fall taking what was Dover's Chase date. 105. Just testing it during a test session might not give you enough info because there will be less cars on the track and drivers might not be driving as hard. That being said they actually tested a package similar to this last year when they were working on this years rules package and the drivers didn't like it so take that for what it's worth. Also to answer your other question they aren't running this package at Darlington, they're running the low downforce package the ran earlier in the year at Kentucky which is the one they actually liked racing with. 513. mkDewalt20 posted: 08.16.2015 - 11:12 pm Rate this comment: (4) (8) I love how all you people trash Kenseth for his personality. I just hope this is the last we see of this package, this package made the regular 2015 package look thrilling. On the bright side, I'm happy with a JGR win! And how about Austin Dillon actually looking like a contender for once. To his credit, Austin Dillon has been halfway decent these past few races; but he is still by far the worst RCR driver. This. This is another reason why I don't really enjoy the Chase. I know the argument of bringing back a season long championship format has passed its time, but if we had a season long points battle, we'd be discussing the drama of Jimmie Johnson suffering problems today and how that would be a huge hit to his championship chances. Instead, it's not a story. His crash has exactly no bearing on his title shot. The racing may be boring, but at least the final race of the year will be a "game 7" moment! 519.
