A much bolder prediction: Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., at the only track he seems to actually have figured out, wins this race and clinches that coveted "placeholder" position in the Chase. Hey, it's a possibility... 4. Clint Boyer will run a Norris Industries 15 Buddy Baker throwback the car was painted old school Rather than wrapped. Jeff Gordon will not be running a throwback the reasons being apparently 3m did not want to do it That's too bad so I guess we have make do with this week. Kyle Busch also wanted to run a throwback but apparently Mars Inc who own's M&M's said no. One nitpick about the 42 mello yellow car Kyle's Number didn't have a black border in 91 to 93. They did do that with Larson it's a small detail but I think it kinda throws it off I like them to get rid of it then it would be perfect. Also rumors that the 51 and the 46 will have a Days of Thunder throwback. 5. Gonna be a real treat to get to see those retro paint schemes up close in person! This is the first time I'm actually going to get to see the Southern 500 on its' Labor Day date, so I'm kind of hyped up for that race! :D 6. In honor of Jeff Gordon's final season his #24 Chevrolet has been painted for this race in his legendary "Rainbow Warrior" paint scheme Gordon used from his 1992 debut through 2000, adorning his car for three of his four titles. Gordon asked the team if it would be possible to run the rainbow colors one last time this season and sponsor Axalta agreed to running this throwback look. This is the only time the rainbow colors will be used without Gordon's original sponsor DuPont on the car. This is only the second time Gordon's rainbow colors have been revived since their 2000 retirement and the first time in over a decade. Gordon last raced with his most famous paint scheme at the 2004 All-Star Race. 7. 88&4Fan posted: 08.21.2015 - 7:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) I'd like to see a new winner as much as anyone else (preferably someone outside the top 16, just to shake up the bubble) but I don't see it happening. It'll probably be a Gibbs car, and to narrow it down even further, it'll probably be Kenseth or Kyle Busch. But if someone who has no way of pointsing their way in the chase like Stenhouse, Stewart, heck even Justin Allgaier who always runs well at Bristol, were to win, that would be awesome. 8. While it's nice to see the famous Rainbow Warriors paint scheme one last time...I wish they would have opted to use that paint scheme AT Homestead, Gordon's final race. It would have been far more fitting, at least in my opinion... 10. We need more Onion posted: 08.21.2015 - 7:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) So Jeff is doing everything he can to miss the chase... I thought they would use it at Homestead too but Gordon will instead have a special "It's been a Great Ride" variation of his normal black Axalta flame look there. I will say the #24 Chevy just looks right in those rainbow colors. It doesn't look like a throwback. It just looks natural. 12. Even if he makes the Chase I am almost willing to bet money that he gets eliminated in the first round. He has not performed well on the mile-and-a-halfs as a whole...barring something miraculous, I don't see him going far in the Chase. And of course there is the distinct possibility that he could miss the Chase if we get some more new winners who are behind him in points (personally, I don't THINK that's going to happen, but we'll just have to see...) 13. I mean this is just my opinion, but the racing there isn't good at all lately. I know all the old-school fans love it because of the history and tradition and all that, but I just never saw anything in it. Sure, there have been occasional classics like the 2003 spring race, but overall I think the racing is most comparable to Dover. Usually a pretty boring race with the very occasional exciting moment/ great race. I'm really excited for the throwback schemes though. 16. The upsets that would be the best choice for a upset would be stewart, larson, or bowyer. I dont really see allagair winning or even a top 5, just his team isn't fast enough. 22. It's the regular 2015 package. The only races they were running different packages at were Kentucky and Darlington (low downforce) and Indy and Michigan (High Drag) thats it. The packages have nothing to do with them winning at Pocono and New Hampshire as they were running the regular 2015 packages and in all honesty, it isn't like they dominated Kentucky and Indy either. Kentucky Kyle made the winning pass on Joey with like 20 to go, and at Indy Kyle only got the lead late in the race because Harvick had a bad restart. I think JGR's recent success has had a lot to do with TRD just giving them better engines to work with, not NASCAR changing the rules on the cars. 31. Dale ran in the top 5 for most of the beginning of the race until he got a pit road speeding penalty. After that he got spun on a restart. He was running pretty good up until that. Indy was somewhat similar. He ran top 10 most of the day until they made some bad pit calls that put him in the pack when just like at Pocono he got in a wreck and spun the car out. Hate to say it, but yeah, it's probably good for him to go now when he's still semi-competitive than for him to go out in 10 years when he would probably be running like Darrell Waltrip and Richard Petty did in their last years...I mean, at this point, it's becoming obvious he will not win this year and is actually looking quite likely he may miss the Chase (if he can't run well in the next two races). 367. racefangurl posted: 08.22.2015 - 10:41 pm Rate this comment: (2) (1) YEAAAAAAAAA! Ryan Newman was very critical of this when his team in the early 2000s did a test And they found it it was being to 26 degrees rather than 36. In fact the variable banking is still there its just 24 to 28 degrees instead of 24 to 30 degrees. As we can see the High Line is still very much the preferred line. You need to grind out another two degrees and then you'll have the demolition derby you're looking for. 399. I miss the older surface where the bottom was the preferred groove, they need to grind it out to where guys can actually run the bottom, this is more of a smaller Darlington or Rockingham.
