JG24ChasElliottFan posted: 03.04.2016 - 9:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Track record broken by 1.7 MPH. I'm surprised to see that with the new low downforce package, but I imagine tire wear will play a factor in the race to shake things up. By the way, the Kurt Busch/Kevin Harvick SHR duo's looking strong again this season. Busch on the pole for the second race in a row, and Harvick qualified 6th, also for the second race in a row. 5. Sector posted: 03.04.2016 - 9:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I expect Kevin Harvick to lead the most laps again for the second race and a row and second year in a row (deja vu from last year). Would like Kurt Busch to win at his hometrack however, his younger brother Kyle already won here back in 2009. 6. Pumpkin posted: 03.04.2016 - 10:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It's still early but I think it's going to be a long year for Bowyer & Smith. I didn't expect anything from the #7 but I thought Bowyer would do much better in the #15/51, his lap times in the test sessions were horrible too. Also a pretty poor Q run for McMurray there, I hope he'll do better in race trim this week! 9. Braindead Zombie posted: 03.04.2016 - 10:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) So if being down a cylinder was last weeks excuse for IAS, what happened this time? 10. Eric posted: 03.04.2016 - 11:11 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) The is something to keep in mind about Clint. Clint Bowyer never had been a great intermediate track driver to begin with and this is what happened when you put him in bad equipment on these types of tracks. Clint's specialty to me always been short tracks and 1 mile tracks that happen to good at Talladega. If you look Clint at RCR compare to Kevin Harvick, Kevin is the stronger driver on intermediate tracks. I know Clint won at Charlotte in 2012 on fuel mileage, but 1.5 and 2 mile are not his best type of a track. The other thing is Clint always been compared to a poor man's Terry Labonte. As great as a driver Terry was, the nature of his racing style tends not to max out equipment. 11. Sector posted: 03.04.2016 - 11:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also this is Kurt Busch's second week in a row on the pole (Even though he lucked out when his younger brother Kyle lost it via penalty). I know it's still early, but if he keeps racking up the first starting position, he may get redemption from the 2006 campaign when Kasey Kahne edge him out for the pole award at the Homestead finale race. 12. racefangurl posted: 03.05.2016 - 12:06 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 9, maybe the car wasn't good. I've heard speeding on pit road is easy at this track, btw. If Ryan B and Chase can avoid that late in the race, they just might be able to finish strong. It's not unheard of for a rookie to get a top-20 at this track (rookie=yellow stripe on the rear bumper, whether or not they got points). 13. Ed posted: 03.05.2016 - 12:07 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Go figure that the only car I expect to not run the entire race is 2 MPH slower than the next slowest car 14. They can get a "top-20" at any track. So what's your point? 15. Cumulonimbus posted: 03.05.2016 - 4:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Is it just me, or does it not make any sense to be 2 MPH faster using a low downforce package compared to last year? I guess speeds will fall off in the long run, but still, at Atlanta qualifying speeds were significantly lower than last season. 16. Alex posted: 03.05.2016 - 7:12 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) If only 39 cars are running now, I'd imagine we will see 39 for most of the year because, as far as I know, the #98 and #32 are full-time entries. 19. Braindead Zombie posted: 03.05.2016 - 7:20 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) BK Racing has been a pleasant surprise so far this year, but its still early. Maybe going back to only two full-time teams is what they needed to do to at least get back to how they were performing in 2012 and 2013. 20. 1995z71 posted: 03.05.2016 - 8:22 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) What happened to the #40 team? Maverick11 posted: 03.05.2016 - 9:28 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) @19 Another reason why BK Racing is as good as they used to be is that they're actually making logical driver choices. Having 3 teams didn't help, but hiring 3 rookies (who tore up a lot of equipment, especially Truex) with little experience didn't help, and then in 2015 hiring Yeley had just about the same outcome. Now that they have solid drivers and are back to 2 cars, I expect to see more out of them. 24. David Ragan finished 29th and 32nd at Daytona and Atlanta, after qualifying 29th and 33rd, and Matt Dibenedetto finished 29th at Atlanta (DNF'd at Daytona) after starting 35th, Michael Waltrip finished 30th at Daytona after starting 36th and Robert Richardson started 40th (Blew an engine in the race itself) I really don't see how finishing around 30th is any better than last year. It also boggles me why everyone keeps praising Matt DiBenedetto so much for turning in 30-35th place after 30-35th place finish. 30. dennyfan11 posted: 03.05.2016 - 12:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) As for Bowyer, this year will definitely be a struggle. He'll likely get, if he's lucky, 2 top tens. Kind of like Kurt Busch's performance in 2012. 31. dennyfan11 posted: 03.05.2016 - 12:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Finally, final ratings for Atlanta are in. They're better than what was first reported, though not much. The race drew a 4.1 rating, and was watched by 6.8 million people. This is the lowest rating for the second race of the year since 2000, a decrease by 27% in ratings and 28% in viewership from last year (5.6 rating, 9.5 million viewers) It still beat the NBA game, which drew a 3.2 rating and 5.3 million viewers. 32. After Edwards blew his tire, they allowed Kasey Kahne in the #5 to complete his qualifying lap, but Vickers was way past the incident and running a pretty decent lap, but NASCAR didn't allow Vickers' lap to count. Tony Stewart and Vickers' crew chief went off on the official in their pit asking why NASCAR didn't allow Vickers' lap to count. Even the announcers were stumped as to why his lap wasn't allowed. 46. And now that Newman has sort of fizzled out into most likely a less than 20 wins guy, 2002 might be pushing it too honestly.
