Stewart's fine falls under Section 12 of the rule book, specifically member conduct guidelines. What does member conduct guidelines mean? 16. Eric posted: 04.22.2016 - 7:04 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Conduct guidelines mean you can't say anything bad about NASCAR even if the driver is telling the truth. 17. Eric posted: 04.22.2016 - 7:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sector, You are wrong about Tony Stewart getting Poetic justice. While Brian France claims Tony Stewart is wrong, Brian France actually wrong in this case. NASCAR allowing teams to tighten as many lug nuts as they want is a safety problem like it or not. The fact is if a tire doesn't get all the lug nuts tight, the tire is going to fly off when the race car is going full speed. The best way to put it is I highly you would have no problems with tires flying off you driving due to not having all the lug nuts tight. 18. Eric posted: 04.22.2016 - 7:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I am not kidding about Brian France actually said there is nothing wrong the rule and NASCAR takes safety seriously. The truth is NASCAR doesn't take safety seriously. I am saying this because drivers back in 2013 and 2014 claimed race tracks needed more safer barriers, but Brian France claimed they didn't need to add any safer barriers for any race track. NASCAR was responsible for Kyle Busch missing races last year due to his Daytona Crash as a result since there was no safer barrier when Kyle got hurt. 20. racefangurl posted: 04.22.2016 - 7:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) How about that top-20? Sean posted: 04.22.2016 - 11:44 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) IndyCar fans seem to treat the 1-milers like Phoenix, Milwaukee, Loudon, Nazareth, etc... as short tracks because except for Iowa and Richmond they haven't raced anywhere shorter than a mile in decades. It really is a matter of opinion. I think given my choice I would prefer to group the 1-1.49 mile ovals with the short tracks than with the 1.5+ mile ovals because the short superspeedways seem to have more in common with the short tracks than with the large superspeedways in my opinion, but I do accept NASCAR's historical definitions. I think judging things by the same standards as they were judged in the '60s is a little weird. In the years prior to the reduction of the schedule at the start of the Winston Cup era, ALL superspeedways, even like the Dovers and Rockinghams were considered high prestige races (but really the only reason that makes any sense is that the superspeedway races had more entrants and bigger purses), but the sub-1.5 mile superspeedways generally aren't considered really prestige at all anymore, except for Darlington. Things do change and I personally think 1.5 miles maybe should be the new dividing line, but I understand why it's not. 28. Those, as well as the road courses and Darlington, are definitely the best tracks on the schedule. Richmond has been pretty bad the past couple of years but its still a fun track to watch. The team never did anything to alter the appearance of the so-called #62, they didn't even add a #2, so it took the green flag as a second #6 with the exact same paint job as Carelli's truck. If it wasn't a Gibbs driver that pulled that move on him, he would've stomped off again, but because it was a team car, he was kinda forced to put on a *happy* face. 385. I also think Edwards mad a last lap pass on Sadler to win a race too, but that might have been with two to go, I honestly can't remember for sure. Anyways about the race, that was easily the best Richmond races in years. I loved seeing the driver be able to move the cars around the track and be able to make passes on each other. Moving the race to a day race probably played a big role in that too. As many people have said this week, there's no need for tracks with two dates to have two night races. I really hope Charlotte takes the hint and moves their fall back to a day race like it use to be. Lastly that move by Carl was great. Tony will basically need to pull off 3 wins (since 45x3=135) in a row like Kyle Busch did last year to throw himself up to 30th while everyone else in between remain finishing 30th to 40th on a weekly basis. Otherwise, if he can improve on his performance later in the year and start scoring top 10's, unlike the past couple of years, he'll only need to win one. Yes, the results DO list everyone as finishing that race, but there was a multi-car crash on a GWC attempt that ended the race under yellow...and several cars (Aric Almirola and David Ragan, specifically) definitely did not take the checkered flag. But for whatever reason...NASCAR has apparently decided to stop crediting cars that crashed out in the final couple of laps with a DNF and just lists them as "Running". (Same goes for the 2012 Indy 500-despite what the results will ALWAYS say, Takuma Sato did NOT take the checkered flag in that one). I don't know WHY this is, but I knew the moment the race results for that one went up it would trip up people down the road, and it already IS... Second of all, I did get to see replays of the finish at my job, and...Shades of the 1997 Food City 500, anyone? Different track, but similar move and it happened in the final corners as well. I personally don't have a problem with what Edwards did to win the race-I give him credit for actually GOING for the win rather than just accepting a second-place finish like many drivers might well have done, and at least he didn't WRECK Kyle. In my books it takes a fair bit of skill to pull off a bump-and-run, it takes NO skill to do a bump-and-dump. And finally...Have I mentioned that this new lower downforce package has significantly improved the quality of the on-track product this year? I know I have, but I'll go ahead and say it once again. I've never really seen racing quite like this before at Richmond-I'm pretty used to this largely being a one-groove track, and yet for much of the race we saw many drivers running up close to the wall and making it work, and many instances of three-wide racing throughout the day. I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but NASCAR...You did GOOD in listening to fan and driver input and choosing to use this package for this year. Now if only all their other decisions made this much sense, things would be golden... 415. By this logic, Aaron Rodgers and Eli Manning (who both have admitted to adjusting the inflation level of the football before), and probably about half the QBs in the league should also be suspended for four games because they've done it too, just they weren't c̶a̶u̶g̶h̶t̶ ratted out by a bunch of sore losers. Last year, he finished 28th in driver points without missing race. Even if he did qualify for the chase, the odds of him advancing through all the eliminations are steep. Even steeper if you're talking about him advancing without getting any additional wins after Spring 'Dega. People are acting like he's going to return and immediately be back in 2011 form. First it doesn't rain and we get the race in on Sunday and on time highly unlikely but you never know. Second it stop starts it takes almost all day but we get the race in before sunset. Third we get to halfway and that's pretty much it's rained out whoever is leading there's your winner. Fourth we get some racing in we don't make it halfway we finish on Monday. Fifth we don't get to race on Sunday and we race on Monday. Sixth if we race on Monday same with Sunday either full, stop start full, or half way. Seventh if Monday's a washout or we don't get the halfway we run on Tuesday. Eighth here's where things gets tricky in 2007 as some of us might remember the August Michigan race was run on Tuesday because it was rained out on Sunday and Monday now what some people don't know is that NASCAR was willing to go as late as Wednesday to start or finish the race. I don't know if they would try this again the schedule might not allow it but we'll see what happens. Now beyond that things get even more tricky I don't think NASCAR can slide the schedule and run it the following Sunday but they do have options they could run it Father's Day Sunday, June 19 which is an off weekend there is a conflict with the Xfinity race which is in Iowa that day or The next off weekend which is Sunday, August 14 which has no conflict. Finally they could run it at the end of the year and that be the championship deciding race although that would be interesting I think is a terrible idea considering the championship contenders could be involved in the big one and it would be race to who could get their car fixed the fastest I don't know about you but I think that's a really crappy way to determine a champion. (1995 Tyson Holly Farms 400 at North Wilkesboro) The 2015 Auto Club 400 came dangerously close to smashing this record, if not for Sam Hornish Jr. Taking him out of the equation, 1st to 42nd was separated by only 6 laps, with 1st to 41st only separated by four laps. 539. This was also the last time he led the most laps in a race. Carl Edwards was an extremely underrated vulture/closer type of driver, Carl Edwards led the most laps in a race just 14 times in his career, yet managed to score 28 victories. There were only three races (iirc) in Carl Edwards' career where he led the most laps, but failed to win the race: 2009 Pocono, 2011 Homestead, and 2012 Richmond. 543. From my seat between turn 4 and the start/finish line, It looked like Kyle had Carl by 5 car-lengths in 2, I looked down, closed my eyes, looked up, and Carl was hitting Kyle in the bumper. I've honestly never had such a swing of emotions during a sporting event before or after. It was a solid race, decent number of cautions. Carl was never my favorite, but anytime he won, it was good day. I always wanted to see Carl do his back flip in person, and being his last, only makes it all the more special. The last great Richmond race...for now. 546.
