Wow, Annett was really far off the pace in qualifying. I can understand
why the 55 is that far back but I wouldn't expect the 46 to be 2 seconds
slower than the polesitter and more than half a second back of the next
closest car.

Or did something happen during qualifying that I missed?

I don't know why, but Casey Mears and that #13 have had a really slow
start off to the season. His average finish is three less positions than
last season and Mears is 28th in the standings, the worst he's been
since 2012. They also only have two top 20 finishes in the first 10
races, while in 2015 they had 4 and in 2014 they had 6 to start off the
season.

5, since he was good in practice, maybe, just maybe, bad cars were an
issues. However, finishing top-10 is what really matters. We have to
wait and see if the pattern shown in the preliminary stuff (practice and
qualifying) can over to the race.

Funny how he won all of those poles, yet he hasn't won one in several
years now.

Martin Truex Jr wins the pole here, and I really consider this Kansas
track and Texas his best tracks. I really hope he can score a win here
and Texas in the fall just because of all the heartbreaks he's had
losing here. It'd be nice and refreshing for sure.

That new school/old school segment was kind of interesting. I definitely
don't agree with Carl Edwards/Cale Yarborough and Brad Keselowski/Bobby
Allison, but I think Johnson/Petty and Kyle/DW are both pretty good
comparisons (although on second thought Johnson/Pearson might be even
better than Johnson/Petty).

DW thought it was epic, one of the BEST paint schemes he'd ever seen...I
recall hearing him say that at...I forget where, but it was earlier this
year when he ran it. Don't know what DW saw it that we didn't...

I anticipate Truex dominating this race, but his team once again finding
a way to throw the victory away.

Danica gets the free pass. I am dead serious when I say someone needs to
count how many times she's either been the first car a lap down or the

Apparently this is the home race for Furniture Row Racing. Their shop is
"only" about 600 miles away from Kansas.

According to NASCAR's post-race reports, the #11 has had only two
speeding penalties this year (before tonight). They have had a number of
other pit road infractions, though.

Truex's pit crew and strategists do the choking WAY more than he does.
And if NASCAR didn't throw all the debris cautions they do, he WOULD be
closing the deal. People are way too unfair to Truex about this. Usually
his team gets outstrategized and Truex can't make it back. That doesn't
make him the level of choker that people say he is.

Yeah, I think a lot of it falls more on Truex's crew more than Truex

Stewart gets the free pass because he was pulling out of the pits and
was ahead of Truex at the moment of yellow. As a result, Truex is pretty
much guaranteed to finish off the lead lap, and may not even finish in
the top 20 (depending on what happens in these final laps).

As much as I wanted Truex to win at what is considered his best track,
you can bet that Kyle Busch will win at every race track he's ever
started at. Charlotte & Pocono aren't that far off and he's done well at
those before. This and Homestead were Kyle's worst tracks, the fact that
he's won there the last times he visited both now, it's not a stretch.
Kyle is winning EVERYWHERE and that is a fact, love him or hate him.

Man Kyle might be the luckiest driver of all time. I feel half his wins
have been gift wrapped to him do to someone having problems. On the flip
side of that Truex has to have the worst luck of anyone in the sport. If

Honestly, I think this was one of the duller races of the year...lot of
passing and good racing back in the pack, but not a lot of passing for
the lead or up front. Though this new package has brought much better
racing, clean air still seems to be a bit of an issue-though not AS much
as it was last year (and DEFINITELY not as much as the abysmal package
they used at Michigan last year where Kenseth pretty much led
uncontested from the start and there was next-to-no passing all race long).

Onwards to Dover...Where I anticipate either another Johnson victory, or
Kyle making it two-in-a-row.

For the second time this race Martin Truex Jr. dominates a race only for
his crew to give it away.

Ryan Blaney gives the Wood Brothers their first non-plate top five since
Marcos Ambrose at Waltkins Glen in 2008. With Chase Elliot in 9th it was
another good race for the rookies.

Richmond. The race where Edwards got black flagged for jumping a start
after leading like half the race. Then there was a water bottle yellow
when Tony had the race won. Kyle won the race off pit road then Jr was
catching him and his brakes started to go on him. As good as Kyle is
he's as lucky as they get.

I used to think the conspiracy about Toyota paying off Nascar to look
the other way was nonsense....not so much anymore....there has to be
something going on, to me none of these recent Gibbs win are anywhere
near legit.

I will say that Kyle's driving style (in Cup at least) has dramatically
changed since the Daytona crash last year...he seems to handle these
races a lot better and a lot smarter than before.

I have to say, though, I find it...interesting how the only times he's
finished poorly this year are races where he was entered in the
Xfinity/Truck race the day before and DIDN'T win. Is his performance
really that dependent on his lower series efforts...or is it just a
weird coincidence? It's hard for me to say...I've seen plenty of cases
where Kyle drove poorly after losing an Xfinity/Truck races in the past,
yes, but honestly, I don't know...

This rookie battle between Elliott and Blaney definitely looks to be a
good one, I'll say! I think Elliott is going to win the award as he's
impressed a little more thus far, but I think it won't be by a HUGE amount.

Definitely a lot of bright potential young talents coming up the ranks
right now....perhaps a little TOO much right now. Some of those guys who
looks pretty good in Xfinity and Trucks won't make it to Cup, and that's
a shame, but with not enough rides being available, it's (sadly)
inevitable...

than anyone else (except for Truex's)! And that totally explains why all
four of their teams are championship contenders. Oh, wait a minute, all

While Busch won that race, he was the only Gibbs car in the top fifteen.
It wasn't until a few weeks later at Kentucky when all four of them
became weekly threats.

I have to agree that it does seem highly suspect that seemingly
overnight JGR went from a team with only Kenseth performing well
consistently to all four cars competing for wins every week. Especially
since Toyota has been known to be involved in foul play in other series.
But there isn't any smoking gun yet, so we can only speculate.

Careful standing up for the JGR team now, you might be called out as a
Toyota fanboy...

But in all seriousness...I admit that the JGR dominance has become MORE
than just a little obnoxious...but wasn't Hendrick utterly dominating
the sport all that long ago? Like it or not, there will come a time when
one team just seems to be able to consistently outrun in every sport.
Right now JGR is that team. You can cry and complain about it all you
want...won't change the fact that they are the top team right now.

Besides...I do realize there haven't been a HUGE amount of winners this
year, but you weren't seriously expecting THIRTY-SIX different winners
in thirty-six races, were you? That's about as idealistic and naive as
you could possibly get. Honestly, I think the years in which there have
been a lower number of winners outnumber the years in which there have
been a lot of different winners. Look at the '70s where the majority of
races were being won by Petty/Bobby Allison/Pearson/Yarborough/Waltrip!

You make an excellent point, but the differences what that most of their
rises happened during the off season. Gibbs' rise happened in the middle
of the season after Sonoma, which is rather interesting.

Fair point. I probably should have cited July 11th at Kentucky, when all
four Joe Gibbs cars unexpectedly and suddenly finished 1-3-4-5 after
being average at best on all the 1.5 mile plus tracks in the first half
of the year.

#364, that was the first race with the low downforce package. JGR nailed
the low downforce package last year in the two races where it was run,
so it shouldn't be a huge surprise that they have been the best team
this season with this package. Even towards the end of the season last
year, Harvick and the Penske cars were faster than the JGR cars in most
of the races.

What else happened at Kentucky? They introduced the low-downforce setup
for the first time, similar to what is being used this year. Maybe JGR
just figured out that setup quicker than anybody else, much like
Hendrick figured out the CoT in 2007 faster than anybody else.

NASCAR is going have to crack down on this or they risk looking like a
joke. Mainly because they fined Stewart 35K and then went out of their
way to change the rules anyway, and if they don't enforce or if it's

other than the #78 missing out on another win again after dominating.

Oh well. Congrats to Kyle I guess for finally breaking through at
Kansas. Honestly, I kind of hope he wins at Charlotte and Pocono now
just so he could be the first one to win on every active track. I think
that'd be extremely impressive to see.

Kyle Busch won't be the only one who won at all tracks. Richard Petty
and Cale Yarborough did it in 1981, when they got rid of Ontario Motor
Speedway (the only track where Petty and Yarborough didn't win). And
David Pearson also did it in 1976 after winning at Ontario, but never
won at Texas World Speedway.

A few statistics:
- Kyle Busch is 5 : 0 in winning at tracks where he has never won
before. In Trucks, he crossed Martinsville off the list. In Xfinity, he
crossed Atlanta and Las Vegas off the list. And in Cup, he crossed
Martinsville and Kansas off the list as well. Everything in one try.
- With his win at Kansas, Kyle is now tied with Tony Stewart for the
most wins in Joe Gibbs Racing team. Both have scored 33 wins. Just one
more and Kyle will become the winningest driver of JGR.
- No. 18 has won at all active tracks along with Rockinghamn except
Phoenix. Special thanks to Kyle Busch and Bobby Labonte. And No. 18 has
"just" 56 wins in Sprint Cup Series. Only one other number has won at
all active tracks except Kentucky and that is 24.
- Kyle broke a tie with Matt Kenseth again. He has 37 wins to Matt's 36
wins.
- Kyle has won at 21 of the 23 tracks Sprint Cup is competing on. Only 2

I feel like part of Ford's struggles this year are probably due to them
preparing for SHR coming over to Ford for next season. I know JGR claims
their struggles during 2014 and the first half of 2015 were likely due
to them preparing for Carl Edwards to come over.

Yeah! Just like how they ignored all of Denny Hamlin's speeding
penalties, or how they appeased the Toyota overlords by throwing a few
Carl Edwards benefit cautions when he had a flat tire, and who could
forget that suspicious Truex benefit caution... oh wait.

Seriously, the comments during the race straddled Facebook levels of
stupidity, and some of them were from some ordinarily sensible posters
too. Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth are
perennial chasers, and consistent title threats; and Truex has proven in
the last couple of years that he could be too. Why is it suspicious for
them to do well? SHR is just as fast as Toyota right now, and if they
had four capable teams, instead of just two, they'd be just as dominant.

I think a lot of why Kyle doesn't run those tracks in the Truck series
(that cup doesn't race is) is solely because its just the same as his
drivers winning it for him as an owner. I know, not really, but that's
probably how he views it otherwise he'd be racing them. That and giving
the young guns a chance possibly.

Also, Kyle Busch misses the first 11 races last year.

Kyle Busch's first 11 races this year: 3 wins, 9 top 5's and 9 top 10's,
a pole and 679 (all the highest this season).

I'd say his championship definitely wasn't a fluke keeping the momentum up.

Also I wanted to point out that since you guys are nailing the stuff as
a driver, Kyle Busch as an owner only has one track to win at on the
schedule in the Truck series: Atlanta.

Interesting that he's won there 4 out of 5 times during his pre-KBM
days, that his team actually never won there. Surprised he didn't at
least race there for this reason earlier this season, especially
considering all of his trucks finished poorly.

and one of them is going to win this year. Side note...I have both on my
fantasy team. :/

And I don't think JGR is dominating due to some "conspiracy". They're
just like Jimmie Johnson, know how to make the right adjustments to win
races/run well from week to week.

Even though I was upset that Kyle won the title last year, he did what
needed to be done, and that's win races and run well.

What JGR is doing as a team is similar to what a certain driver on a
certain Chevrolet team who has six titles to his credit did a few years
back...

Take a look at his last pitstop - a right rear tire changer makes 5
noises with his pistol. All 5 lug nuts were definitely there after his
last pitstop.
And there's not a single official word about this anywhere except this
rumors with the same picture, so NASCAR probably knows he lost a lug nut
during a burnout.

Toyota is 21 points ahead of Chevrolet in manufacturer standings. With
the new points given out by the best manufacturer finisher(Example, Kyle
Busch scored 44 points in this race and for Toyota & Ryan Blaney scored
36 points in this race and for Ford), and definitely being out numbered
by Chevrolet, this is definitely an odd year for that battle. Toyota
does have to go for the one thing they have yet to win for sure.

The only way I could see this happening is if Stewart decides to get out

Teams are able to run a 5th car for a rookie in a limited number of
races. Hendrick just did it last year with Elliott in the #25.

If Harvick is a "cheater" for intentionally causing ONE wreck in 16
years (okay, two, he spun Coy Gibbs at Martinsville) then what does that
make Kyle Busch, who if I recall correctly, caused about four
intentional wrecks in 2011 alone? And don't say that the difference is

425. There's a difference between causing an intentional wreck and
retaliation, when somebody does something to you. And if I remember
correctly, Kyle Busch HAS NEVER caused an intentional wreck without some
previous contact. He races you (pretty, it's his driving style) clean as
long as you race him clean.
Ron Hornaday was the one, who damaged Kyle's truck first back then...

No one did anything to Kevin Harvick last year at Talladega and he had
to cause an intentional wreck to advance because of engine troubles.
Kyle Busch may be pissed about losing, but at least he CAN take it
without cheating like this...

The only wreck I remember Kyle pretty much intentionally causing in Cup
after 2011 (when he was an absolute mess and fought with seemingly all
of RCR and KHI before he finally got parked, although I think hooking
Harvick at Darlington was the only one in there that happened in Cup)
was the weird wreck with Truex at the end of the 2014 Atlanta race,
where it looked like Kyle did it on purpose but nobody had any idea why
and I don't remember hearing anything from either driver about what, if
anything, had transpired before the incident.

429. I knew somebody will bring this up. However, there is a simple
explanation: Owen Kelly in the 54 was wrecked by a Penske driver Sam
Hornish Jr. while AJ Allmendinger in the 22 was leading and went on to
win the race at Mid-Ohio.
So it may look like Kyle did it for that reason you mentioned, but the
real reason is this... payback. Owners championship battle went out of
control a little then, but Roger Penske is the one who started this...

But the most interesting thing is Keselowski's open admission that

I too like the bye idea. However i do wish (anyone else can chime in on
this) is that if you sweep a round in the Chase (1st or 2nd round) you
should automatically get your ticket punched too Homestead. Far as i see
it Logano sweep a round last year and didn't get rewarded for it.

It's interesting that all of the pictures that people thought showed
only 4 lug nuts were of the rear tires and the violation was actually on
the left front. It appears that all of the lug nuts were on the wheel,
but not all of them were tightened. There was video of the final stop
that pretty clearly showed the front tire changer not hit every lug nut.
It doesn't make much sense why the guy would do that since they knew
they had to wait on fuel.

Berrier is fine as a setups guy, but yeah, he's probably one of the
worst ever at not keeping up with track changes as the race goes on. Go
back and watch pretty much any race from about 2006-2010 where Harvick
and Burton had extremely fast cars capable of winning, and watch them
just get dialed out as the race progresses (of course in Burton's case
his conservative driving style never helped in those situations either,
I'll admit).

Luckily for Kyle it's only Dover though (meaning it's not like the Coke
600 or something when it comes to changing track conditions), so I
imagine they'll be fine. I actually think it was a smart move for JGR to
not appeal and prolong it for weeks on end like we usually see teams do
with these penalties. Just get Stevens' suspension over with now and
move on.

I am not happy what I read about that crash. Tony Stewart and Jamie
Mcmurray hit a well that didn't didn't have safer barrier. I read that
Jamie hurt his left arm around the elbow area.

Kyle Larson had a really nice run in this race, battling up inside the
top five for much of the night after he'd had a disappointing season up
to that point. Unfortunately, a late accident took him out, but I look
at this race as when his resurgence began, after his great rookie season
he fell into a slump for most of 2015 and the beginning of 2016 but
hasn't looked back since this race.

Mike Joy, Darrell Waltrip and Jeff Gordon were the commentators. Matt
Yocum, Jamie Little and Vince Welch were the pit road reporters. Larry
McReynolds was the in-race analyst. Chris Myers and Michael Waltrip were
in the Hollywood hotel.
