Although that could actually end up being a bad thing because in the three races this year where he's started well (Daytona, Talladega, and Dover) he crashed. 2. Good to see Smoke starting up in sixth! 5. Ryan posted: 06.03.2016 - 6:43 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Nice effort from Chris Buescher. Unusually weak qualifying performance from the Roush cars, not a single one in the final round. 6. If said person blasts you over your opinion, don't say I didn't warn you. 7. I was curious and actually a bit surprised by this, so there's one interesting thing even if the starting grids themselves are fairly dull. But what's with Will Power qualifying 9th when everybody else this weekend was beaten by no non-Penske drivers? Keep this up much longer and he might be up on the hotseat. He brings little to the table on ovals and Pagenaud has now taken over Power's road course mojo (and in fact I wouldn't say Power was THIS dominant even in his 2010-11 heyday...) He's just lucky Castroneves and/or Montoya will likely retire first... 10. RaceFanX posted: 06.03.2016 - 7:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This is the first Cup race at Pocono to feature a Busch/Xfinity series race on its undercard. "@racefanx did you get your computer updated to use AIM yet?" It can't, it's too old to run more modern Windows needed for that. 11. Jolly Mean Giant posted: 06.03.2016 - 7:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Cman seriously needs to just change his name to Debbie Downer. It'd be the PERFECT name for someone who literally only posts on this site to complain...In fact, I am honestly considering just referring to him as "Debbie". One of the first times this season no Roush cars made the final round-I'm starting to get used to seeing Stenhouse and/or Bayne in the top 12! Hearing that this race has a HUGE chance of being postponed due to rain this weekend...isn't that fun? 12. Jolly Mean Giant posted: 06.03.2016 - 7:58 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Also...why do we NEED to have an Xfinity race at Pocono? I understand NASCAR wants to maximize the number of butts they put in the seats for the Xfinity Series, but adding a race at Pocono just gives the Cup brigade another race that is more than likely a "gimme" win for them. I've said it before: I would honestly not be shocked if in the future, ALL Xfinity/Truck races were just companion events to Cup races and there were no more stand-alone events... 13. TS1420 posted: 06.03.2016 - 8:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Great qualifying effort by Smoke. Hopefully he has a great race. 14. We're basically there already and we were honestly pretty much there as early as like 2001 or so. But yes, I miss the Hickorys, South Bostons, IRPs, Milwaukees, Nazareths, Pikes Peaks, Myrtle Beaches, and so on. If NASCAR EVER wants those series to have an identity again, they need to go to more tracks like that and fewer Cup tracks, but I guess those tracks are hurting now and all the national touring series are getting way lower attendance than they used to, so it is probably never going to happen. It's too late, but I too hate the lack of non-companion weekends... One race at Eldora is not enough to convince me that NASCAR means business in that regard... 15. Tyson posted: 06.03.2016 - 8:45 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) "Also...why do we NEED to have an Xfinity race at Pocono?" We don't need it, but NASCAR needs it to keep XFINITY/Comcast happy. They were the ones that wanted the race because they're located out of Philly. 16. hanktuesday posted: 06.03.2016 - 9:07 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Go 2 & 22, just need to get some speed in that 12 car. 17. They actually haven't quite finished this feat yet as there's still one more qualifying session to do for the second Duel in Detroit. Also for the record webmaster, Ty Dillon's No. 95 is a straight up Leavine car this weekend. No affiliation with RCR. Everything's been prepped by LFR/Circle Sport. @Knighter01: @tydillon said on @SiriusXMNASCAR this week with @Noble_Jim that the 95 car this week is all @CSLFR95. 18. And like I said in my above post, this week it's a full blown Circle Sport/Leavine effort. RCR isn't affiliated this week, so they definitely couldn't afford to bring McDowell out in a second car. 21. racefangurl posted: 06.04.2016 - 1:28 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Pocono is a unique track, so I don't think NASCAR needs to leave it. Maybe just the less rained-out race should stay and a short track should replace the other. Perhaps Iowa should be added to the Cup schedule. If anything would need to be done to that track, maybe it should be done. Since Pocono is so weather plagued and the races so close together in the schedule, one may be enough. It's a track within driving distance of where I live, so that could be part of why I think it should stay on the schedule. 22. Here's the quote you're so misguided in referring to: "They need to get some people in the booth that aren't inbred to the sport and own teams and have internal knowledge." What Brad is saying is Gordon is basically still an existing member of Hendrick Motorsports because he still owns a stake in the team. He has invested interest both personally and professionally. Of course though, people only look at the word 'inbred' in one way. In no way, does Brad say Gordon was a subject of inbreeding. It's pretty pathetic that you had to jump to insulting somebody's physical appearance because you couldn't understand what someone else said in a quote. 345. I doubt he just pulled that word out of nowhere; I'll bet he's heard it a time or two before. Someone who has appointed himself as the voice and -- dare I say it? -- face of all the drivers in the NASCAR garage better learn to be a little less hypersensitive when someone says something he doesn't like. Penske already employs one whiny bitch in his NASCAR stable of drivers, he doesn't need two. And since Brad is surely no hypocrite, I'm sure he'll respectfully decline any future offers to be a guest commentator in the booth during an Xfinity race so as to keep the "inbred to the sport" announcing to a minimum. 346. Brad's not quite as important as he seems to think he is these days. I don't recall Brad carping about longtime broadcaster Michael Waltrip, who's been directly associated with team ownership in NASCAR for the last decade or so, instead of Gordon who's an owner on paper only. Anyone who thinks Gordon has been shilling for Hendrick Motorsports during his time at Fox this season either hasn't been paying attention or is just predisposed to hate whatever Jeff Gordon says. 347. But Jeff did admit later on that he had made a mistake comparing the #2 team's penalty yesterday to Vegas after which everything pretty much died down. As for bias in the announcer's booth, Jeff has actually been pretty impartial in his announcing. If anyone's biased it's old Jaws with his blatant rooting for Dale Jr.(and to a lesser extent Kyle Busch). 349. Cooper posted: 06.07.2016 - 1:08 pm Rate this comment: (2) (1) I'm confused. But they were definitely denting that on purpose. With all the pit stop practicing they do, it's crazy to think they would let this 250lb jackman fall and dent the side of their $300,000 racecar if it wasn't beneficial in some way. 352. We all know that there's no love lost between Brad Keselowski and Jeff Gordon (or anyone else outside of Team Penske, for that matter). However, has anyone given consideration to the fact that, as a race analyst, Jeff was actually doing his job. Granted he might have gone a little overboard in comparing what they did here to what they had done at Las Vegas, but they committed an infringement of NASCAR's rules regarding altering the body of a race car during the race, and Jeff caught it on the air. Last time I checked, isn't that what a color analyst is supposed to do? And there have been lots of other occasions where analysts have spotted teams breaking the rules one way or another, and have called the competitors out on it, none moreso than Jim McKay and Jackie Stewart calling out Bobby Unser for passing eight cars under caution late in the 1981 Indianapolis 500, something Unser blames more for what happened after the race than for the infraction he committed. And as for Jeff being biased a little toward Hendrick Motorsports, and particularly the #24 team, he's openly admitted that he's a bit biased in favor of them, and admitted so when he took over the job. But he's hardly the only motorsports commentator to be biased while in the booth. Darrell Waltrip, Ned Jarrett, and Bobby Unser have all had more than their share of moments where they let their emotion get the best of them while calling a race. For Waltrip, there are simply too many instances to mention, for Jarrett, it was openly rooting for his son Dale on the final lap of each of his first two Daytona 500 victories, as he battled Dale Earnhardt, Sr. on each occasion (his third came in a race that ended under caution), and for which Dale, Sr. not only didn't criticize Ned for rooting Dale home in '93, but actually told Ned that it was the right thing to do. And Bobby's most blatant case of bias while calling a race was when he rooted for Al Unser, Sr. to beat Al, Jr. for the championship in the 1985 CART season finale, which he proceeded to do by one point. So biased reporting is nothing new to motorsports, and if there's any bias that Jeff has showed, it's far less than the other examples I mentioned. I think what Brad Keselowski is upset at is that Jeff Gordon, the FOX cameras, and NASCAR, as Chick Hearn would've put it, "caught them with their hands in the cookie jar". They knew what they were doing and tried to get away with it, but expert camera work and a commentator that was on the stick wouldn't let that happen. And for that, Jeff Gordon and FOX should be commended. 355. murb posted: 06.07.2016 - 5:46 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) This is one of the dumbest things that's happened in a while. I think JJ has been called back to pit road for illegal body mods this season as well so why didn't Gordon call him out, or Mcmurray at Kansas (i think). Maybe it's legal for them to be like that? 360. cjs3872 posted: 06.07.2016 - 10:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) But were the other body modifications DURING the race by those other teams shown, as well as being as blatant as the ones that Brad's team did on Sunday? It's one thing if the teams came out with them, or modified them without anyone noticing them, but if it was so blatant that even the commentators knew what was going on, they have no choice but to mention it, which of course, would then get NASCAR's attention, because everyone saw what happened. Jamie McMurray's body modification infraction, which I believe came before the race in question started, was caught by NASCAR, if not by the cameras, and he lost two laps in the race where it happened, practically before the race even started. And Jimmie Johnson's been nabbed for illegal body modifications on more than one occasion since that rule was implemented. But usually when a team does these illegal body modifications, they're running so poorly that they don't think anyone's watching them, which is why they get away with it more often than not. But what Brad's team did on Sunday was right in view of the cameras and caught by an alert commentator, which were two reasons why they didn't get away with it. Not to mention that Penske has always been one of the teams that tests the bounds of the rulebook on modifying the body during the race, as well as Hendrick Motorsports. After all, when teams started playing with the tow of the cars, it was the Penske team that went so far with San Hornish, Jr. in the 2008 All-Star Race (as well as it's other cars), that NASCAR had no choice but to implement a maximum skew rule, but four years later, they were at it again, playing with the body of the cars, which was a big reason why Brad Keselowski was able to win the 2012 Cup title. Hendrick followed Penske's lead, and the result was that Jimmie Johnson won the 2013 title and Jeff Gordon had his best season in seven years in pressing for the 2014 title, a run which was climaxed by his record fifth Brickyard win among four wins at tracks he hadn't won at for at least a decade (and three of which he hadn't won at in at least 12 years). So NASCAR clamped down again, this time on body modifications, but I don't think they've gone far enough. They need to get back to what they did when Gary Nelson became the Director of Competition in 1993, and make the cars somewhat look as close to their passenger car models. And one way they can do that is to eliminate ALL body modifications, and eliminate all of the skew the cars have had for more than a decade. Somewhere around 1996, NASCAR began to lose control of bodies of the cars, and they haven't gotten it back since. 361. 1995 Subaru WRX Sti posted: 06.07.2016 - 11:04 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) NASCAR has been very pin point since the Gen 5 that you "Do not for whatever reason touch the body of the car." Team got away with it with the Gen 4 because all they had too do was meet the templates in the 'room of doom.' The #1 team got busted and didn't make a stink about it. But Brad for whatever reason felt the need too voice his opinion. Too be frank, if you are stupid enough too do it in front of the whole world. Then you should be sent too garage area for the rest of the race. I know NASCAR said years ago that penalties will continue too get worse until it stops. I think someone needs too be made an example of. If someone has the b@!!s too do it again on live TV and gets caught. Then well i say it should hurt, really hurt. Basically a P6 penalty or make up something worse then that. 362. Canadianfan posted: 06.07.2016 - 11:10 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) This is the plan with the Semisecret X-3 car. I read an article about this new car will be symmetrical and no body skew. Also the splitter is almost nonexistent and there's a big gap in front raised the splitter it Is not perfectly flat against the ground it's more like a step. They also experimented with the radiator pan and found that removing it took away something like 250 pounds of downforce. They were also looking at the rear of the car trying different things in wind tunnel testing and most promising no more side skirts. I don't know whether to call this the GEN 7 or the GEN 6.5 car I don't even know when it will be launched I don't think it'll be launch next year I think 2018 is probably more realistic at this point. I don't know if this was a result of me asking for this or not, whether it was or not the thing I was looking for was for the standings page that displays the total standings for the entire cup series to have the Chase standings in order instead of just total points. Total points doesn't mean anything anymore and there is no reason to have it. I would prefer for this to continue for the XFinity and Truck Chase along with when the Chase is going on and a driver wins and advances past a round for the standings to show that. Once again I don't get the point of showing total points during the middle of the Chase especially when someone advanced with a win to the next round. There are rumors that starting next year the driver with the most points after the first 26 races will get a first round bye in the Chase. If that is the case I would like to see 2 tabs for the Chase standings one with the Chase standings and one with the first round bye standings and to have this for the main standings page and not for the page right under the race results. Thanks for everything you do to the site and I would love to see these changes added. 366. dennyfan11 posted: 06.10.2016 - 4:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) On a side note, i've been trying to start a blog, but it's not working.
