That clearly wasn't what I was trying to post. Not sure why that happened. Lets try this again... Another crappy qualifying run for Jr. Whatever, at this point I really don't even care. Tony Stewart starting third! Hopefully it can translate into a good finish this time. Pretty strange first round with two cautions. 5. This move seems to make no sense to me. Since only 40 cars are entering, there's no need to do that for owner points and neither car has a charter. Only thing I can think of is they want to get the 55 higher in owner points with Whitt in case we have 41 or more attempt a race at some point. 8. Wish I was there, but I have to work, and no one else I know likes racing. 14. joey2448 posted: 06.10.2016 - 9:16 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Also, how nice is it to see the Wood Brothers No. 21 Ford up in fifth, with rookie Ryan Blaney behind the wheel. I'm sure someone like cjs can comment on that too, but that car is just meant to run well here, a track that all car manufacturers want to win at with such close proximity to Detroit, the "motor city", which is essentially Ford and GM's backyard. 15. joey2448 posted: 06.10.2016 - 9:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The straightaway speeds are higher because the lower downforce package isn't putting as much drag on the cars, but the corner speeds are down, which is good for the off-throttle time. Hopefully, we'll see a better, more competitive race Sunday than the one from last August, which featured cars running with six-inch rear spoilers. Speaking of which, the 2.5-inch rear spoilers on the cars this weekend (which will also be on the cars at Kentucky in July) look like NOTHING! It's amazing how short they look! These guys must be hanging on for dear life in the turns! Harvick did get screwed, unfortunately, by the timing of the two cautions in the second round of quals. Just as he was getting up to speed on his run, the yellow came out for debris (legit) on the track in turn 3. Then, with about four minutes left in the session, Harvick had his car cooled off enough to make another go of it, but that was cut short by David Ragan's crash in turns 3 and 4. That explains him starting 29th. 16. TS1420 posted: 06.11.2016 - 2:50 am Rate this comment: (5) (2) Glad to see Smoke have a phenomenal run in qualifying in person. He will be glad, if he finishes this race and his last season without any other problems, let alone with the win. I think his only chances to win a race are at Daytona and Talladega or with fuel mileage finish, if he stays on the lead lap at the end of the race (which is a difficult task for him now). 18. 484evs posted: 06.11.2016 - 10:14 am Rate this comment: (1) (2) Are we taking bets as to what lap Brian Scott spins out tomorrow with this new aero package? lmfao 19. It was EASILY superior to both Michigan races last year (not like that was a tall order considering the two races last year were a stop-and-start rainfest and the race in which the OTHER potential new aero package was tried out-with abysmal results. But still!) Ton of passing and side-by-side racing throughout the field all day long-seriously, I'm actually shocked at how there weren't even MORE wrecks on the restarts considering how loose the cars were getting running in close quarters. It was really encouraging to see drivers be able to run all over the track and pass each other with relative ease. Clean air is still an advantage-as always-but overall I think the new package they experimented with this week is largely a success. I'm actually interested in seeing how Kentucky turns out since that's the other race using this package... Other thoughts on this race: -More phenomenal runs for Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson. Whether you like them or not, it is very obvious one of these two-indeed, possibly both-will find the winner's circle soon. They are both running too good right now NOT to. Elliott in particular is having a rookie season reminiscent of his predecessor Gordon-the big difference being that he hasn't totaled an assload of cars! -Kyle Busch really needs to be happy he has those three wins in the bank, because his luck this past month or so has been pretty abysmal. 4 straight finishes outside the top 30 and 3 DNFs-rough stretch indeed. Hamlin is another one who's gotta be thankful he's got a win because his overall luck has been pretty poor since his Daytona win... -Junior is really having a feast-or-famine year, he seems to either run pretty good and get a top-5 or crash. There's another team that needs to step up their performance... -Fastest car won today, but I can't really complain-Logano seemed to pretty much have the best car all weekend. We've seen that happen several times this year-actually, this year it feels like we've seen the best car win more often than in years past. Maybe it's just me. -I see our good friend "Debbie Downer" crawled out from under his rock to express his dissatisfaction with a repetitive winner! I missed seeing his negativity... Overall, like I said, this was a pretty fun race. Onwards to Sonoma...In two weeks! 226. Some of these guys come of out of leftfield, in fact more often than not, with their owner and sponsor info, it seems. Legally, the car is a Leavine car because of the owner points/charter implications. This is how it has been officially handled by NASCAR for over 60 years, so let's not arbitrarily change things now. 237. I think your only one coming from left field, At Texas in Pratice Jeff Gordon mention in the booth the #95 is a 4th RCR car and after Austin Dillon wrecked last week, this is what they said Mike Joy - IS the #95 of Ty DIlon is that RCR car Jeff Gordon - We heard earlier in the weeek it was not unlike other weeekend as he filled in. The physical car itself and all the parts that make it up is 100% owned by Richard Childress. But the intangible NASCAR entry and the owner points that come with it is the property of Levine Family Racing. This is somewhat a scam by Childress so he "technically" isnt a four car team in the legal sense. 244. Alex posted: 06.13.2016 - 12:19 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) But for NASCAR historical purposes the car is Leavine Family Racing. 20 years from now, NASCAR will pull out their record books, and it will say Leavine Family Racing. Who is fielding the entry doesn't matter. It is, on NASCAR's OFFICIAL ENTRY LIST, which overrides your OPINION (and opinion only), Leavine Family Racing. The official entry list is hardly intangible and is, if somehow a legal issue came of this, the only thing that matters. And if Mike Joy and Jeff Gordon are conversing in the booth, it is hogwash because it is not the legal definition. In doing this with both owner and driver information, you are invalidating this site as a resource for NASCAR statistics and history. Likewise with sponsor information you have splutted all over this site... 245. nascarman posted: 06.13.2016 - 12:24 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) ^ I agree, it should be listed as Leavine Racing. 246. oldschoolracing519 posted: 06.13.2016 - 12:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) owner should be listed as whoever gets the points, Richard Childress does not get any of the owner points, Leavine Family Racing does so the #95 should be listed as them owners, same as in the past the #33 entry in past years should of had Joe Falk as the owner. back in the 90's if you look at the points, you would see a ton of cars over the course of 1 year run the same number but have a different owner and that was because it was in fact a different owner, Nascar even listed them different in the owner points. for the past few years, owners have been given credit in points because technically they do own the car they are just lending out their number to another team to "field" the car. so the way it should be listed is whoever gets the points owns the car. Officially this is what is done, but when it comes here a few users think that because a car shows up at the track that is fielded by one team but the points to go to another that they owner of the car is officially that team, it should be exactly how its listed officially, not by who fielded the car a certain week. 247. Raoul Duke posted: 06.13.2016 - 12:30 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Alex, I think you are correct in the case of the #95 this season but NASCAR itself hasn't been terribly consistent about ownership if you want to compare the past with the present. Only for the 2016 season because of charters has NASCAR started crediting teams with ownership at the Sprint Cup level instead of individuals on their entry lists and owner points standings. Example: in 2016 "Hendrick Motorsports" owns Jimmie Johnson's #48. But in prior seasons "Jeff Gordon" owned the #48. I think it's good that this site never fell for that "Jeff Gordon owns the 48" mirage which means that everything Rick Hendrick really owned in fact (if not on paper) is shown that way here, all on 1 owner's page. Someone can adamantly insist that **according to NASCAR itself** Rick Hendrick did NOT own the #48 until 2016, and it is inaccurate to claim that he did since Jeff Gordon is the "official" owner. Which of course is bullshit and always was. My point is that it's tough for anyone to be consistent in this area when NASCAR itself is not. 248. I'm confused. 249. nascarman posted: 06.13.2016 - 4:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This is similar to when Junior Johnson was banned in 1991 so his wife became a NASCAR owner. Sure all the equipment was owned by Junior, but Flossie owned the entry so in NASCAR's eyes Flossie Johnson was the car owner and should be rightly listed as such. 250. The racing was pretty decent, but this package was not the cure-all for the plague that is know "clean-air". Everybody is making excuses that "Logano was just too fast" but Logano couldn't catch Chase once he got out front and needed him to have a "Jeff Gordon Throwback" restart the get back out front. Frankly I don't know if NASCAR can quite fully cure the clean-air problem unless they completely redesign the car from the ground up to work better/be faster when following another car or institute some gimmick (like Push-2-Pass or DRS except for leader of the race). Great to see Tony have a good race for once. 251. It doesn't matter is RCR builds there engines. It doesn't matter if RCR builds the chassis. It doesn't matter if RCR builds a turnkey racecar and brings it to the track in an RCR hauler. It doesn't matter if RCR employees pit the car on raceday. It doesn't matter if the driver is under contract to RCR. It's not complicated, and it's not new. It's always been done that way. The listed owner can outsource as much of the work as he wishes, or none of it, and still gets the points and the official credit. If you try to do it any other way, it opens up a huge can of worms. Is the #21 still a Wood Brothers car, or a Penske car? Is the #15 a Harry Scott, Jr. car or is it a Stewart-Haas car... or are the Stewart-Haas cars all just Hendrick cars? And so on and so on. Stop trying to fix something that isn't broken. 254. racefangurl posted: 06.15.2016 - 1:28 am Rate this comment: (1) (1) I wasn't home at race time, but YEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! 255. 18fan posted: 06.15.2016 - 4:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kyle Larson has lost 15 points for his car failing post-race laser tech, the same penalty for the same infraction that Kasey Kahne got after Dover. 256. Then again you can't really do something like this because it's all situational. Something like '04 or '11 where the points were really close entering Homestead may have ended up the same, but most of Jimmie's leads entering Homestead were by a good margin, for instance. 260. Yeah all you have to do is look at the stats to see that. Dale had more top 5's, top 10's, poles and led more laps in 2013 than Harvick did in 2008. That being said, as 259 said the points would have been drastically different had they used that Chase system from 04-13. Driver would have driven races a lot differently plus you have had extra drivers in the Chase due to the larger Chase field. One example that comes to mind is Tony Stewart in 2006. he dominated the Chase in 06 despite not being in it. Had they used this system he more than likely would have made it to Homestead in 06 and would have driven that race differently had he had a Championship on the line. Given how he ran in 2011 when he was pretty much in the same situation he probably would have won the title in 06 not Denny. 262.
