Jolly Mean Giant posted: 07.01.2016 - 7:04 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I know the RFR cars have stepped it up this year (with the exception of Biffle, who appears to be on pace to his poorest year yet)...but Biffle winning the pole? That's quite a surprise. He was fastest in both rounds of qualifying, to boot! Kyle Busch had a violent head-on crash in practice and had to qualify with a back-up car that had never even seen the track prior to qualifying...and manages to earn the 3rd starting spot. 3. Surprised to see Chase that far back after winning the first two plate poles. Also good to see Gilliland make the race. Also, this race will be the one year anniversary from when I became a regular poster on RR. And I'm going to a concert tomorrow night so I won't even be here for it (assuming there aren't any weather delays, which is actually a high possibility). 5. Stenhouse Jr. qualified in 4th and Trevor Bayne in 13th. Trevor Bayne and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. are doing a hell of a lot better than they were in 2015 and even though this is a restrictor plate track, I feel like all three drivers could finish really well this weekend. Maybe Roush Fenway still has some speed left, I don't know. Greg Biffle at 46 is approaching the twilight of his career, and I doubt he will make the Chase unless he wins. Tony Stewart won last week, so anything is possible. Here are some stats I found: Stenhouse has 7 top 15 finishes, and 7 top 10 starts, opposed to 4 top 15s and 1 top 10 start from last year. And Trevor has won here at Daytona before, and got one of his two top-10 finishes last year as well, as well as one of his two top-10 starts. This year, he has 5 top 10 starts and 3 top 10 finishes so far. Prediction: I believe that Trevor Bayne will sneak into the Chase on points, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will be in the top 20, but will more than likely have to win to get a spot in the Chase. 9. Lets start with the negative and get this out of the way: - It sounds like this will be yet another game where you can spin out, crash, do whatever, and it won't really damage your car. Also it doesn't look like from what I saw that the AI get damaged, although that may have just been the setting that it was on. - Once again, some of the choices for drivers that made the game are ridiculous. Ryan Ellis in the BK #93 and Matt Tifft (I didn't catch the number of the car he was driving) are in the game, which means two full-time cup drivers got left out (I'd have to guess Reed Sorenson and Jeffrey Earnhardt). It seems simple enough to me. There are 40 full-time teams this year and 40 cars in each race, and all of the teams this year have one driver running a majority of the races. Why is it so hard for the game to just include those drivers? - It still doesn't look like there are any other series than the cup series. Also, there are no tracks included other than the cup tracks. No lower series tracks and no fantasy tracks. Now for the positives: - THEY BROUGHT BACK CHALLENGE MODE!!! I don't know if this is going to be like Lightning Challenges from the NASCAR Thunder days or if it'll be something completely different, but the guy said "you have to win in different scenarios." I'm looking forward to it. - You have the ability to create your own driver, right down to different nose shapes and eyebrow colors. - Career mode looks promising. He said something to the effect of having to gain fans and start from the very bottom (although if it were REALLY at the very bottom, you'd be starting out on local dirt tracks like in D2D... grrrrrr...) - He said something about how once you gain experience, the difficulty of the AI automatically changes depending on how good you are. This could be a good thing or a bad thing, if it changes from race to race, it is good, but if it changes, say, every few laps (coughlateEASportsgames) then it would be a very bad thing. But from the way he said it, it sounds like it changes from race to race. I guess the one thing I can say for certain about this game is it'll be better than N̶A̶S̶C̶A̶R̶ ̶T̶h̶e̶ ̶G̶a̶m̶e̶ 2̶0̶1̶1̶ I̶n̶s̶i̶d̶e̶ ̶L̶i̶n̶e̶ NASCAR '̶1̶4̶ '15. 10. racefangurl posted: 07.02.2016 - 1:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 8, it seems Biffle's age is affecting him. His younger teammates seem to run better than him now that the cars are better. Trevor, while only a few points outside the Chase, would need to not have any really bad races between now and the Chase for getting on points to be guaranteed. However, if he has some luck, he could win this one. He's had good runs at plate tracks since his 500 win and even has led laps and/or finished top-10 in plate races a few times. Half of his Cup top-10's have been plate finishes, so he just might be a plate ace. Or Ricky could win this one, if his luck holds. Even when Roush was so bad, they still had something at plate tracks. Luck has an element in races, especially Daytona and 'Dega races. Luck and how good the team and driver are at plate tracks is what it's about. 11. dennyfan11 posted: 07.02.2016 - 9:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) How do you do that strikethrough effect? I am currently reading the 2013 Sonoma comments in my free time. I just read the HTML wars of Michigan 2013. I wanted to comment on a race earlier but either was too busy or wasn't ready to yet. I won't be able to comment regularly on this site, but I would love to comment more. My username includes the numbers of my three favorite drivers: Sebastian Vettel (same first name as me, don't watch F1 much), Scott Dixon (think he's cool), and Carl Edwards (this year's Toyota Owners 400 tells it all, I don't like Kyle Busch). I am excited for not only being on this site, but for the NBC commentary, as I liked theirs a LOT more than TWN, aka FOX (you can tell I read mostly 2013 comments.) I just started watching racing around the start of the Chase last year, so I won't be able to talk history with you guys. Anyways, I hope I don't get annoying and we can get along. 34. dennyfan11 posted: 07.02.2016 - 4:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Still raining at the track. 35. dennyfan11 posted: 07.02.2016 - 4:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Update: Still the same, rain still coming down. 36. dennyfan11 posted: 07.02.2016 - 4:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Same song: Different verse. Yeah, we did have a massive multi-car pile-up halfway through the event that took out a bunch of contenders (McMurray, Johnson, Elliott, Harvick, Kenseth), but for the most part other than that it was a FAIRLY clean race and they actually managed to get through a GWC without a massive multi-car pile-up (only Kurt Busch got wrecked) and a green flag finish. I wanted to see Pearl Jam earlier this year but couldn't scrounge up the funds for it(or I should say my PARENTS couldn't:D) As far as Pink Floyd goes, those are their two best known albums and for good reason but you should also check out Animals(a very underrated album) and Meddle. And even though it was post-Roger Waters the Division Bell is also very good. Pretty much all of them were decent expect Momentary Lapse of Reason(which had one good song Learning To Fly). Zeppelin was a little overrated in ways but they are still one of the all time greats, their lesser known tracks like Achilles Last Stand, Ten Years Gone and No Quarter are their best. The reason they aren't ranked higher is because of their outrageous and often depraved antics off stage(I admit I have a little trouble seperating the art from the artist sometimes)which is a knock I have about a lot of others too. There's certain things your better off not knowing for sure. I really hope John Mayer comes out of this haze he has been in for a while and comes back to making enjoyable music, but I'm not holding my breath lol. ANY serious lover of art needs to try to listen to Joy Division, for better or for worse depending on who you are. 552. dennyfan11 posted: 07.03.2016 - 4:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) My top 10. My first music memory is listening to Gregg Allman with my mom in the car when I was 5,6 and they will alway be my favorite. As I've grown up, I've learned to appreciate them for a lot more reasons. They were IMO the best band of any kind from the South even though they eschewed many Southern traditions(opposing the confederate flag, being one of the first white Southern bands to have a black member) and didn't follow the typical route musically either. Unlike less dynamic bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd( who I like but don't love) they were truly unique and stood out from the crowd of Southern music(or period). They were so eclectic and didn't really fit any one category. They are the only band to have not 1 or 2 or 3 BUT 4 guitarists in the Rolling Stone 100 greatest all time, the greatest of which was the incomparable Duane Allman(you DO know that was him playing lead on Layla, not Clapton right?)who was a legendary session player before the band even formed. I had the privilege of meeting present day guitarist Derek Trucks when I was 10 years old, and you couldn't ask for a nicer guy, it was almost like he was a kid himself. I asked him before a concert if he could play my favorite song by his band, Joyful Noise and he said "We'll have to wait and see". Unfortunately, the crash was too much for him, and he died. They announced it on the broadcast with 3 laps to go, right before they went green. Mike Joy barely skirted the mention, though, just saying "Welcome back, Michael Waltrip's dead, this race was brought to you by Budweiser". After the race ended, Darrell Waltrip found out, and distressed, started running around the track, screaming "WHY? WHY? WHY?" But then he fell over and he died as well. Dark, ain't it? 578. To answer murb's question a while back on why people suddenly trash Ruck Allen, I don't fully know why but here's my best guess: First, he's in NBC. Although nothing to do with his actual broadcasting, near the end of their run in 2001-2006 they started to get a bad reputation especially with commercials, and I think we can all agree that Saturday night was commercial overload, not changing anything. And heck, I decided to read comments on NASCAR's YouTube channel (don't ask why) and I found a lot of people already saying that they miss FOX. When the network isn't well liked, I think that the lead announcer will sometimes be the fall guy, no matter how good or bad they are. Now to get to his actual broadcasting, I think Allen is very good, but at the same time he doesn't always sound genuine. But I think the big problem in my opinion is that Allen, Burton, and Letarte, imo, simply don't mesh together well. It's liked they paired up 3 guys (Burton and Letarte didn't do much prior broadcasting, although Gordon didn't either) and hoped for the best. I don't find NBC terrible at all (especially when compared to ESPN, minus Bestwick), but I think the crew at FOX has a lot more chemistry and blend well together. Yeah, they can be goofy several times, but Gordon and DW played well off of each other and anything with Mike Joy is great in my book. So that's my guess. 581. The most common thing is that the racing is as good as it ever has been (said pretty much every race this year). However FOXs coverage is awful (again said for most races this year.) FOXs coverage of the US Open (golf) has been awful (just about as bad as the USGAs setting up of Chambers Bay and Oakmont). Anyone on here can watch 10 minutes of their coverage and see how terrible is it. FOX has been sucking the life out of NASCAR for years. And when NBC takes over they can't recover what FOX has sucked the life out of. I had a friend tweet Micheal Waltrip and ask him if they have ever been informed of needing improvement or doing anything wrong. Waltrip said "no i've never told we need too change anything or do anything different." Well for one we all know Waltrip is a moron. And second FOX can get better they just do not see a need too. Why? Because maybe they are arrogant and overpaid on the last TV deal? Could NASCAR demand better TV coverage? Yeah they could. But who too say that the TV partners (FOX) will say "not changing a thing." Or maybe fans just like too complain (FOXs coverage and NBC "endless" commericals.) There is a middle road here somewhere. *shrugs* 583. StenhouseFan17 posted: 07.04.2016 - 1:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Are Allen, Burton, and Letarte the most talented group in the booth? No, not at all. But at least in the case of Burton and Letarte, they know their stuff and have been in the thick of it recently. Waltrip and McReynolds have been out of the garage for more than 15 years and Waltrip and Joy don't seem to know what's going on half the time or more anymore. Fox tried to kiss up to the fans by adding Gordon, but he can't hide his favoritism for Hendrick/Chevrolet and disdain for all others long enough to make many good points. 584. murb posted: 07.04.2016 - 1:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) For me, Allen/Burton/Letarte have been everything I could want out of a Nascar booth. They're ultra informative and try to explain everything that's going (Letarte in particular has been amazing at the technical and strategy side of things - in my opinion he's already easily the best crew chief analyst ever), but they are informative without being TOTALLY boring (like the original Punch/Petree/DJ booth on ESPN which was like listening to paint dry), and while they're not boring they also don't overdo things by turning into cartoon characters (like the later years of Joy/DW/Larry - thankfully Gordon has very much rejuvenated the Fox booth and brought some great insight back). I guess I can see where some people might think Rick Allen over saturates things or whatever (sort of like what Sean was saying), but mesh wise? I think the three of them have been awesome together. Other than the commercials (which honestly I really don't give that much of a damn about - like I said during the race, the complaining about the commercials annoys me WAY more than the actual commercials), I have no complaints at all with NBC's coverage. Not very susprising when you really think about it, since the car out front is hardly ever the fastest car on the track at a plate race. Not sure when the last time that happened was, maybe Junior in this race last year? It had to have been a plate race. 604. According to this site, it was Denny Hamlin in the 2014 'Dega spring race. I'm sure there's some fuel mileage or rain shortened races where the winner didn't have a fast lap either. If IndyCar has the data, I'm sure that Rossi didn't even sniff having a fast lap. 605. For example, Jeff Gordon's final start was not the 2015 finale, it was his final intended start. Small tip since English isn't your first language (I still want to know what your first language is, though...) 609. #BowmanNation #TKNation #JRNation posted: 06.24.2018 - 5:10 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) So far the final race to have a Taco Bell sponsored car, the 38.
