It would be one thing if all the other HMS cars were slow, but him being 34th is just weird with all of his teammates making the final round. 3. Danica10Racer posted: 09.09.2016 - 9:38 pm Rate this comment: (1) (22) I'm not too worried about Danica, she had about 23rd-27th qualifying but she's got top 20 race pace. I usually don't comment on other drivers but I hope David Ragan bumps Buescher out of the top 30. It would prevent Danica from losing another spot in the championship standings. 6. Maverick posted: 09.09.2016 - 9:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hamlin finally gets his first pole of the year where he and teammate Carl Edwards (who has 5 poles) each have an average starting position of 6th...crazy. Rather odd performance from the 24...but since he's 39 points ahead of Newman, they're practically safe in making the Chase, unless he finishes last and Newman somehow wins. Dillon is 31 points ahead of Newman, and unless something drastic happens, Dillon looks to be a safe bet to make the Chase as well. McMurray is 22 points ahead of Newman, so this is where the race for the last spot will most likely come down to. Unless of course, something happens to Buscher and Ragan finishes well enough to knock him out. In that case, all of them get in! And how about CGR! Larson 2nd and McMurray 4th. Great runs for them, especially when McMurray needs to run well enough to make it in. I hope he will. 7. Sector posted: 09.09.2016 - 9:51 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Throughout the regular season of 2016, Denny Hamlin has made it through all rounds of qualifying, and ends the final regular season with his first pole of 2016. Amazing qualifying run considering not winning a pole until this race. They were bound to win one. Jimmie Johnson passed Jeff Gordon for 10th at the last second of the final round of qualifying. Shame, was hoping Jeff Gordon would get a top 10 qualifying run before Martinsville, where he'll most likely get a top 10 qualifying run anyway. Hopefully. 8. 02Justin10 posted: 09.09.2016 - 10:05 pm Rate this comment: (3) (0) Danica will have a top 20 race pace when 7 faster cars fall out of the show. 9. 1995z71 posted: 09.09.2016 - 10:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Cole Whitt must really hate Richmond, 2 of his 3 DNQs this year have come at Richmond. 10. Hendricks seems to be turning on the jets right before the Chase, which is just in time. Also, didn't watch qualifying. Can someone explain why there seems to be a dropoff in fast times from round to round? Did they run it from day to night or something? 15. Cumulonimbus posted: 09.10.2016 - 7:44 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm gonna assume Goodyear decided to bring a tyre that loses grip quickly, as it was often the case at Richmond(except when they brought rock hard tires that would be as fast 50 laps in as on the first one). This should allow for some interesting strategy variations during the race, especially in case of a late caution. 16. Danica10Racer posted: 09.10.2016 - 2:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (4) @19 Blaney, Dillon and Jones don't really do anything for me right now. Sure they are good drivers but carry nothing outside of the race track. Pretty bland personalities too, although Jones could become a Kyle Busch clone. Chase and Larson are the two out of there that could become something. They make you want to follow NASCAR. Both have personalities even though Larson can be a bit bland at times. I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon of either driver but they do make me interested in what is happening outside of Danica. 22. Expect to see some extreme gains and losses in positions in the opening laps. More specifically I have a feeling someone is going to try to intentionally dump Chris Buescher to take him out of the race and increase their own odds-or a teammate's odds of making the Chase. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't know, I have a feeling we could see some complete BS tonight. NASCAR is about due to change the Chase format again-they've been using this one for three years now, and none of the formats have lasted longer than 4 years. So some Chase shenanigans leading to NASCAR changing the format AGAIN would not come as a huge shock... 29. chevyfan98 posted: 09.10.2016 - 7:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah I hate to say it but I agree with JMG. I don't think he's great or anything, but in retrospect I just think he was a terrible fit with Stewart (especially in this stage of Stewart's career - seriously, the way Stewart has been running most of this year leads me to believe that Mike Bugarewicz might be amazing). That Brickyard race where he kept throwing away track position was an extremely embarrassing performance, but other than that, I think his #14 stint mostly just came down to being a bad fit. At the very worst, I'd say Johnston is just another Brian Pattie (IE: great at setting up cars, mediocre at best with strategy and calling races), which all in all, isn't really THAT bad. I don't think he'll be Larson's Evernham or Knaus, but I do think Larson's talent will probably make up for any holes in Johnston's strategy more often than not. 102. dennyfan11 posted: 09.10.2016 - 8:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yep. Sometimes mechanical issues, crashes and pit crew problems let him down. I don't account that for stating the best driver. Things happen and under the current format, it's not a big deal. If you have a win and your car goes to less than optimal it likely means pack it up and go home. Chris is going to be bad at Chicagoland due to the nature of the team despite the increased Roush Support. Chris can get a top 15 to top 20 at Dover and New Hampshire, but he needs higher result at those two tracks and I just don't see it. The drivers with the highest chances not making it to round 2 besides Chris is the following: Jimmie Johnson - Shocking, but true. Most of the laps the 48 team lead this season happened before the Spring Talladega race. I am not sold on this team by taking a look at them starting the Spring Talladega race. I can't depend on the history of the 48 car at Dover or New Hampshire based on how the team has been this year. I also wonder if Dale Jr. not being in the 88 car is hurting Jimmie from the 48 and the 88 teams sharing notes. Austin Dillon - Team peaked early in the season. 5 of their top 10's happened in the first 6 races of the season. The 3 team is a steady team, but this is a team that is doomed if they get in a wreck in this round. Chase Elliott - While Chase did well at Michigan and got a top 10 at Darlington, Chase has been struggling since race 16. Tony Stewart- While Stewart is better compare to 2014 and 2015, he's on his downside of his career. He hasn't finished in the top 10 since Watkin's Glen. I know Tony wrecked drivers on purpose on the last 2 weeks, but that doesn't excuse what happened at Michigan and Bristol. If he somehow makes it to round 2, he can't go any farther. 680. murb posted: 09.11.2016 - 1:17 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Alright, came up with my Final Four: Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Truex, Logano (who seriously might be the most underrated guy going into this - barring any problems he's a lock for a top ten every week). Champion: Brad Keselowski. I REALLY WANT to pick Truex (and I'll surely be rooting for him), but the constant pit road mistakes are making me wuss out. I just think the #2 has been the least mistake prone TEAM all season while simultaneously being capable of winning/running top five every week, so Brad makes a ton of sense to me right now. Other Chase predictions: Buescher has some more great runs throughout the year but probably doesn't get out of Round One just by default basically, Larson makes the Final 8 and wins the race at Homestead, Chase Elliott wins somewhere (I'm thinking Charlotte), Johnson is eliminated in the first round again, at least two big names/semi-favorites are eliminated after Talladega (I'm thinking Harvick and one of Hamlin or Edwards), Kenseth hardly does anything and is eliminated in one of the first two rounds, McMurray makes it relatively far, Trevor Bayne wins at Talladega (he was one of the best three cars there in the Spring, and I think with all the Chase stuff going on he'll be able to sneak in and win it). 681. You cited "metrics" that showed Harvick was better, yet when confronted with basic statistics, you backtracked and said that statistics must be dismissed because "stuff happens". That's a non-argument. Then you said that over 98% of "people in NASCAR" (an extremely broad and vague category) would agree that Harvick was better. You have not provided evidence of this claim, and I doubt you can. That's an argument based on subjective opinions of fallible people. If you are trying to win this debate, you will have to try harder. "If you really want to go argue about Harvick not being the best driver in 2014, please go ahead and make a fool out of yourself. And if he finds himself in a hole...he'll climb out of it. He's put on some clutch battles in the new Chase, and I think this won't be an exception. Kyle Busch: After getting the championship off his back last year, I think this will be the year where Busch finally starts to make noise in the Chase (i.e. win races). The 18 hasn't been consistent enough, but they've been dominant enough, and with wins they can easily advance into the Chase. Hamlin: Never would've said this two months ago, but the 11 team is red hot. They're riding a streak of 8 consecutive top ten's and the win at Richmond has to be a huge confidence booster. And Hamlin's hungry. I bet 2010 still lingers in the back of his mind. And now they're back in Championship form. Keselowski: Keselowski has been the least mistake prone this year, and he has wins AND consistency. A one two combo that bodes very well for making it to the last round. 684. chevyfan98 posted: 09.11.2016 - 1:53 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'll say this, if Larson makes it to Homestead he has to be one of (if not the) title favorite. 685. chevyfan98 posted: 09.11.2016 - 1:59 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Seems like Hamlin and Edwards have swapped since the beginning of the year. I'm sticking with my Final Four predictions for now, though I'm definitely least sure about Edwards (I'd probably switch him with Kyle Busch if I changed my predictions). I can't help but think Kyle is going to blow it during the round of 8 somehow. I'll admit that I have nothing to back up that claim (besides past meltdowns). Truex seems like a lock. He's been running very well as of late, and tonight's race showed his ability to fight back from a penalty. I think that even though the 78 crew still has a tendency to screw up from time to time, they're starting to pull it all together at the right time. That said, can they hold up at Homestead. They do have the experience from last year... Keselowski has been very solid all year. Easily the second-best this season after Harvick. The difference is that Harvick picked a bad time to antagonize his crew (to be fair, his crew has been screwing up all year), and Keselowski has had a relatively normal year on pit road. Hamlin is hitting his stride at exactly the right time. He has committed a plethora of speeding infractions this year, but the #11 has the speed necessary to go all the way. He has won at eight of the ten remaining tracks. Champion: Hamlin. This is the year he avenges his loss in the 2010 title race. Plus, he's really good at Homestead. Other various predictions, because I'm too tired to explain any further: Larson makes the round of 8, Elliott advances on a win somewhere, Johnson falls out in round one again, and Stewart also fails to advance past the round of 16. If Childress didn't fire Harvick after the 2013 Martinsville Truck tirade, I don't see why he would fire Newman for this or even want to involve himself (of course, Harvick was still in championship contention then and Newman isn't now, and Childress DID fire Jeff Green in 2003 after Green made way less harsh comments than Newman did here, so I don't know - I could be wrong, but I still highly doubt it). Newman will most likely just mediocrely ride out the rest of this year and then end up in some crappy situation next year, probably either replacing Bowyer in the HScott #15 or taking a modified ride or something full time (the latter of which he probably SHOULD do honestly, since he's constantly giving off the vibe that he and his "old school mentality" or whatever are above the Cup Series now). Either way, I don't see him ever winning in Cup again (and even before this weekend I didn't either), and I doubt he'll ever be seriously competitive again even if he does stick around in Cup for a few more years. 709. murb posted: 09.11.2016 - 5:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Childress probably will just give him Jeff Green's old AOL cars for the rest of the year." lol, I remember making this joke a few years back during the Harvick/Ty Dillon thing at Martinsville, but in retrospect, Green was a lot better in that car than it seemed at the time. 17th in points in 2002 (highest finishing RCR driver in a TERRIBLE year for the company), and he semi-seriously contended for a couple of wins that year (Loudon in July and Fall Richmond). Childress firing him prematurely in 2003 for comments about Harvick (after Harvick flat out wrecked him at Richmond - of course Green was pissed) was really lame and totally screwed up any chances of Green being a decent Cup driver. Had he stayed in the #30 for the full year in 2003, I bet he would have had some good runs throughout the rest of the year since RCR as a whole really got their equipment running good about mid-season after starting slow (even Robby was running great and getting frequent top tens on ovals). The #30 was just bad the rest of that year because Steve Park post-injury just wasn't what he used to be. So I gotta believe Green could have gotten some more good runs in there had he not been canned. 710. Google Tony Stewart; you'll see all kinds of things he's done. Look it up. YouTube and everything else. Quite the guy." Q: What happened from your perspective? I was clearly inside of him getting into Turn 1, he cut across my nose, I was on the brakes, on the apron and I hit him coming off of Turn 2, but only because I got loose, I was on the apron. The next thing I know he is driving across my nose on the back straightaway because he's Tony Stewart and he thinks he owns everything. It's unfortunate, but shouldn't expect anything less from him." 713. He races you for 15th place just as hard as he would if he was contending for wins. He plowed into Larson 2 years ago at Phoenix to make it to the final 4 at homestead. He's had run ins with Logano, Dale Jarrett and I think him and Rusty never got along. Like I said in the beginning of the year he's out of the #31 this year and most likely retire at season end. I don't think he's passionate about racing anymore so I strongly doubt you'll see him running a 3rd tier cup car next year. It's not in his personality 715. That means Ryan Newman has a history of making statements that are classless. Ryan also has been fined by NASCAR in the past for his mouth also for the times he bad mouthed NASCAR also. It is true about Rusty and Ryan not getting along. Based on what I read in the past, Ryan Newman also had a reputation of not being a team player also even at Stewart-Haas. 717. I will tell you my reason for predicting my Final Four. It is because of the tracks in the third round being Martinsville, Texas, and Phoenix. Hamlin could win at Martinsville, Keselowski at Texas, Harvick at Phoenix, and Larson could be in the Title Round at Homestead if he is placed as the first non-winner in the Round of 8 after Phoenix (based on if he finishes in the Top 2 or 3 in each of the three races). 725. The AI is amazing (and insanely realistic if you are serious about career/season modes and that type of thing), the physics are great for an early 2000s console game (this in particular is one thing I greatly prefer about NT2004 as opposed to NT2003, which always feels really clunky to me), the graphics are great for an early 2000s console game, the SOUNDS are incredible and hilariously blow the recycled Nascar Heat sounds they used for NHE out of the water, and all in all, it's just a hell of a lot of fun to play while simultaneously feeling extremely close to a legitimate Nascar simulator (or, at least as close as you could get on a console). Other than the frustratingly sensitive rival meter thing (basically, dudes will automatically start trying to wreck you if you even like accidentally crash with them, even in the big one on plate tracks), I seriously can't even narrow down many bad things about NT2004. It's nearly the perfect Nascar console game in my opinion. Anyway, yes. NHE just looks extremely disappointing, to put it mildly. I haven't played it yet, but from everything I've seen thus far, from the recycled original Nascar Heat sounds to the Cruis'n USA looking physics (and really just the overall aesthetic) makes it seem like they totally rushed through it and basically just shat it out as soon as they could. I mean, wasn't it only at the All Star Race in May when they announced it? Of course they had to have been working on it before then, but that still seems like they could have spent SO much more time on it. What was the rush? I don't know. Again, I HAVEN'T played it yet (and I probably won't for a very long while since I have yet to upgrade to a PS4) so I really could be totally wrong, but it seriously doesn't look good at all. Best case scenario, it looks like a mild upgrade of the Eutechnyx games. "Matt Kenseth and Ryan Newman aren't properly used well enough. (Newman won 3 races in my career, Kenseth won 2)" In Thunder? That's funny because in nearly all of my NT2004 season modes (which of course can go on pretty much forever just like career mode), Newman is a total beast (damn near championship contender every year with at least like four wins) and Jimmie Johnson struggles to make the top ten in points every year. As far as your custom car, there are websites like tinypic that allow you to take a picture and turn it into a url. 756. chevyfan98 posted: 09.15.2016 - 7:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Maverick, if you can find them anywhere you should really try to get Thunder 03, Dirt to Daytona, or Total Team Control. All three of those games are really good IMO and I'm sure the other games mentioned (Thunder 04 which I've heard nothing but great things about) are as well, but I can only speak for the ones I've played. "Matt Kenseth and Ryan Newman aren't properly used well enough. (Newman won 3 races in my career, Kenseth won 2)" That's a minor disappointment with career mode in that game, that pretty much the same drivers finish in the same positions on every regular speedway. Pretty much the only drivers that ever win career mode races on normal tracks (everywhere but plate races, road courses, and short tracks) are Jarrett, Stewart, Dale Jr, Gordon, Harvick, Rudd, Martin, and Newman barring something miraculous happening. That being said, I do love how drivers have different ratings at different types of tracks. Like how Robby Gordon is actually good on road courses but midpack everywhere else, same with Michael Waltrip on plate tracks. 757. Personally I bought mine when it came out back in February 2003. I've played every NASCAR Console game in my opinion NASCAR Thunder 2004 was the best and the last good one was NASCAR 07 and the last ok one was NASCAR 09. NASCAR 08 I rented from Blockbuster and was glad that I didn't buy it. NASCAR 14 was terrible I returned it to EB games within a week of buying it. I never bought NASCAR the game but I heard it was bad I did buy Inside Line though and it was ok all things considered. I remember pulling the shit out of NASCAR 2005 Chase for the cop and the total team control aspect of NASCAR 06 was very interesting and I was glad that they carried it over until seve I remember playing the crap out of NASCAR 2005 chase for the cup and the total team control aspect of NASCAR 06 was very interesting and I was glad that they carried it over into 07. 758. My brother, whose friend has the game, says there's no caution flags, no split-screen multiplayer, no minimap. And info from the web says that you only start with a few tracks, and unlock more as you go along (dumb), no assists (Bad), the "dynamic AI" is fake, it only goes from 80-105%, and it doesn't get harder as you go along (Misleading) the spotter gives very delayed info (awful), NO LEADERBOARD IN PRACTICE (TERRIBLE) and you blow up at 8,000 RPMS (WOW). I Guess i know what game I WON'T be getting this year. 760. Tylor Thaber posted: 09.15.2016 - 4:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I have heard a few good things about Evolution. The graphics look fine, the AI's actually pretty intelligent (won't derp into your way often, gives you room but will attempt a block on occasion, good at saving the car, but can't do any superhuman saves), though you'll have to stay in third gear the whole way to experience this due to how slow they are, and the physics engine gets the job done. Basically, get the game if you prefer test sessions over actual racing and have 60 bucks to piss up the wall. 761. For laughs, here is the 2017 Sprint Cup Roster: Athenian Motorsports: #05-John Wes Townley (only makes Daytona 500 attempt) Chip Ganassi Racing: #1-Jamie McMurray #42-Kyle Larson Team Penske: #2-Brad Keselowski #12-Ryan Blaney (runs half of races for Penske, half for Wood Bros.) #22-Joey Logano Richard Childress Racing: #3-Austin Dillon #27-Paul Menard #31-Ty Dillon Stewart Haas Racing: #4-Kevin Harvick #10-Danica Patrick #14-Clint Bowyer #41-Kurt Busch Hendrick Motorsports: #5-Kasey Kahne #24-Chase Elliott #48-Jimmie Johnson #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr. (starts out season in #88, health decides how long he'll race for) Roush Fenway Racing: #6-Trevor Bayne #16-Greg Biffle #17-Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Tommy Baldwin Racing: #7-Brian Scott Joe Gibbs Racing: #11-Denny Hamlin #18-Kyle Busch #19-Carl Edwards #20-Matt Kenseth Germain Racing: #13-Casey Mears Wood Brothers Racing: #21-Tyler Reddick (half the races) #21-Ryan Blaney (half the races, splits this ride with the #12) BK Racing: #23-Michael Annett #83-Multiple Random Drivers Go Fas Racing: #32-Jeffrey Earnhardt (full time effort) Front Row Motorsports: #34-Chris Buescher #38-Landon Cassill Richard Petty Motorsports (probably the most unrealistic driver roster): #43-David Ragan #44-Matt DiBenedetto HScott Motorsports: #15-Part time team with multiple drivers #46-Aric Almirola (brings Smithfield sponsorship with him) JTG Daugherty Racing: #47-A.J. Allmendinger Furniture Row Racing: #77-Erik Jones #78-Martin Truex Jr. NEMCO Motorsports: #87-John Hunter Nemechek (part time effort) Leavine/Circle Sport Racing: #59-Part time team with multiple drivers (like Ryan Newman) #95-Michael McDowell (full time effort) 762. It's happened before and it will happen again that a team will lose a driver it really needs to continue growth when they don't promote that driver for too many years. Chris is too good to stay with FRM for any more than 2 years. 771. I don't think he'll stay with Ganassi his whole career though. I kind of want him too just because it would give a chance for a team that doesn't have the best equipment to win races (like when Harvick was with RCR or Edwards in his final years at Roush) but I also want him to be able to reach his full potential. Now I'm thinking SHR will get him a few years down the road. He could still end up with Hendrick though, but it isn't looking as likely. 774.
