Kyle took advantage of Truex's loss back in the Spring race here, otherwise Kyle would still be hunting for win #1 here also. I said probably because in the most recent weeks, Truex has been hot on fire. As strange as it was to see the world switch back to late-2000 form, Truex not leading once vs Jimmie Johnson being in charge once more, last week, Truex is still hot on fire. 8. Its a reference to how a lot of announcers mispronounce his name as "Kansas" instead of "Kenseth". (Particularly Rusty Wallace and Larry McReynolds) I've stopped using that for the most part lately but this opportunity was too good to ignore, lol. 11. Jolly Mean Giant posted: 10.14.2016 - 10:20 pm Rate this comment: (4) (0) Man, Danica10Racer, you really ARE that determined to shove Danica down our throat whether we like it or not, aren't you? I swear I think the never-ending debate on her on-track ability would've died off if not for you choosing to tout her up at every opportunity and completely lay the blame on her rather mediocre performance on EVERYTHING but herself. Seriously, not even the TV networks pay much attention to her anymore. Yet you single-handedly manage to keep her relevant at all times around here. Surely you must be really proud of yourself. *ahem* Now that that's over...Can you say Toyota domination again this weekend? I don't know, but looking at the top 4 in qualifying it seems quite likely that's what we're in for. Kansas usually isn't a track I look forward to very much, but considering how many drivers are packed really tightly around the cut-off line for the next round, this could get pretty interesting. Even more so with Talladega coming next weekend-right now Johnson is the ONLY driver who does not have to worry about that at all. (I still have no idea why that's the cutoff race to get to the third round-considering how virtually anything could happen there and luck-of-the-draw and big ones can determine easily who advances and who doesn't, it seems awfully cruel to have a race at Talladega be a cutoff race!) 12. JSPorts posted: 10.14.2016 - 11:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) She will probably run around 26th and finish around 24th. That's what she does historically there. She hasn't really been any better this year than in years past, so I have no reason to think this race would be any different. I'm getting tired of this. Every week after qualifying you post something about how she will battle for a top 10 & almost certainly be top 20. Well, so far this year she has 0 top 10s and 11 top 20s in 30 races. By comparison, her teammates Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart have 19, 22 and 8 top 10s, respectively. 13. Maverick posted: 10.15.2016 - 12:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Won't be able to watch at all this weekend because in the coming week I have tests, a standardized test, and midterms...oh my! But this will get interesting. Guys like Harvick, Elliott, and Logano need to get good runs and with Talladega being the cutoff...this will get crazy. I honestly have no clue who will be in and who will be out one week from now. 14. JSPorts posted: 10.15.2016 - 1:11 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hope everything goes well for you, Maverick. I hate the busy weeks w/ all the tests as well...college is tough! As for the race, I anticipate a good show. The ARCA race tonight was one, and I expect the Xfinity race to be as good as a companion Xfinity race at an intermediate track can be. The interesting thing about the cutoff is that there are now 5 drivers grouped towards the bottom (Hamlin, Harvick, Elliott, Dillon and Logano) so one of them will make it. Statistics may lean towards Logano, but I think it would be hard to bet against Harvick in this system. Honestly, I bet 2 of those 5 make it in (or maybe 3 if another guy wins Talladega) because someone in the top 8 will have a bad day at Talladega. 15. racefangurl posted: 10.15.2016 - 1:32 am Rate this comment: (1) (2) All the Roush drivers qualified top-25 and part of the team was even top-20. They're already behind Penske on the Ford totem pole and next year they'll be behind SHR as well. 19. JSPorts posted: 10.15.2016 - 10:33 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah, the manufacturer alignments being different will mean each manufacturer will have a little different priorities. For Chevy, I think (obviously) Hendrick stays at 1 with 4 cars. However, their #2 team is now RCR with 3 cars, so you'd think they'd put some more support into that team, as it has not won in 3 years. I think Ganassi is their 3rd priority, followed by JTG, HScott, Germain, TBR, Leavine Family Racing, Premium and then The Motorsports Group. They project to have about 10 teams with about 17 total cars next year. But it is concerning for Chevy because they only have 1 driver in the top 10 of the non-Chase standings (Jimmie Johnson in 9th) and their teams for next year have only 4 wins among 2 drivers this season. However, you have to believe the SHR switch will not really hurt any of these teams. Hendrick will be about the same, but with all 9 other teams essentially having moved 4 cars up the hierarchy, they should all be improved. In the Ford camp, things will get really interesting. I'll say that Penske remains Ford's #1 team for now, but SHR is close behind at #2. Then you have Roush, the Wood Brothers, Petty, Front Row and Go FAS. Penske will still be good, while SHR may improve because they'll only have 2 cars in front of them (versus 4). However, this move will probably hurt the rest of Ford, because Stewart-Haas will become a bigger priority for them and they won't focus on Roush or Petty (or others) as much. Next year, they project to have about 7 teams with 15 total cars. Their 2017 teams have 11 wins this season so far. On the Toyota side of things, JGR is still top dog, with the now 2-car Furniture Row right behind. BK is 3rd, and Premium is 4th. The 2nd Furniture Row car could hurt BKR, but I don't think they get much factory support anyways, so I doubt it'll be that bad. They project to have 4 teams, with 9 full-time and 1 part-time car. Their 2017 lineup has 15 wins so far this year. Of course, the new rules package could change things up, but expect there to be close competition between the manufacturers next year. I think there are clearly 2 top teams at Ford and Toyota, but Chevy has really just 1, with 2 more that are 2nd-tier. 20. Casey Mears was the other until his DNF occurred the previous race at Charlotte. Can Brad survive 6 more races to be part of the group of finishing every races on the schedule? His teammate Joey Logano did it last year. It's really strange how Joey and Brad are literally taking turns having a wonderful season and a sleeper season... 29. JSPorts posted: 10.16.2016 - 12:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Brad has never had a season in which he finished every race. However, he has come close -- he had only one DNF each in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015. Since 2011, he has 6 DNFs and 20 wins. I agree about the switching dominant/sleeper seasons. Check this out: 2013: Joey: 8th, 1 win; Brad: 14th, 1 win 2014: Joey: 4th, 5 wins; Brad: 5th, 6 wins 2015: Joey: 6th, 6 wins; Brad: 7th, 1 win 2016: Brad: 4th, 4 wins; Joey: 11th, 1 win Joey has beaten Brad each season that they've been teammates. Since 2013, Joey has 13 wins, while Brad has 12. 30. Sector posted: 10.16.2016 - 12:55 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) In my honest opinion, Joey wining 3 straight races in the Chase last year woke a lot of people up and realize how good he's become in that 22 car. I honestly think he's more of a "Jimmie Johnson" to Brad's "Jeff Gordon" in that aspect a little. This year's a little different and it might be a bad example, but that's how I view the situation. I'd honestly fear Joey on the racetrack a little more than Brad. Brad and the 2 team really come into play based on pit strategy and fuel mileage, and let's face it, 2012 played right into their hands of the chess games of them. 31. JSPorts posted: 10.16.2016 - 12:59 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah, I see where you're coming from. Joey may be the more talented driver, but I believe Brad has the greater will to win. Maverick posted: 10.16.2016 - 2:00 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Ever since driving the 2, Keselowski seems to be a title contender in even years and a slump in odd years. 2011- finished 5th in points (thanks to the Chase), but had a horrendous start to the season and only had 14 top 10's. 2012- Championship. 2013- Worst title defense ever, barely gets one win and has a terrible season. 2014- Leads the series in wins and laps led. 2015- Career high in top 10's, but he was mostly a 6-10th place car. 2016- Leading the traditional points, tied for most wins, and is right in the running for most top 5's and top 10's. As JSPorts and Sector pointed out, Keselowski and Logano have alternated dominant years since Logano came to Penske. Something else I've noticed is they've also alternated controversial years since then. 2013: Logano had the Bristol and Fontana incidents with Hamlin, Keselowski didn't really do anything 2014: Keselowski had too many incidents to count (Martinsville, Richmond, Charlotte, and Texas were the big ones), Logano wasn't involved in anything 2015: Logano had his run-in with Kenseth, Keselowski didn't do anything 2016 (so far): Keselowski has had a few minor incidents (being responsible for the horrible All-Star race format, the Gordon thing from Pocono), Logano hasn't done anything To be clear, this isn't a knock on either driver, you all know where I stand on them, just pointing something out I thought is interesting. 36. chevyfan98 posted: 10.16.2016 - 10:01 am Rate this comment: (2) (1) Something else interesting is its been the 31st race of the season each of the past two years where all the controversy starts during the chase. 2014 at Charlotte was the Keselowski vs. Kenseth and Hamlin race, and last year was Kenseth and Logano. So if the pattern continues, something will happen with Keselowski and Kenseth today... I know, I'm just hyping up a scenario that has about a 5% chance of happening. 37. However, since then, Jerry Nadeau finished 20th (2000), Terry Labonte was 23rd (2001), 24th (2002) and 26th (2004), Brian Vickers was 25th (2004), Kyle Busch was 20th (2005), Casey Mears was 20th (2008), Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was 25th (2009) and 21st (2010), Mark Martin was 22nd (2011) and Kasey Kahne was 18th (2015). No, the 88 is not running well, but you're not giving that team (or Wally) enough credit. Labonte in 2004 was the worst. I agree about the Keselowski even/odd year thing, but I don't really think he's had any incidents this year. The all star thing wasn't an incident, and I don't even remember the other thing. 40. Case Mears DNF last week, Brad Keselowski this race. No one is going through all 36 races without a DNF in 2016. 2) Matt Kenseth AND Kyle Busch are the only remaining drivers to finish in the Top 10 in all 5 Chase races so far. Jeff Gordon (2007) & Carl Edwards (2011) were the closest to achieve this, as they had an 11th place finish to ruin their perfect Top 10 runs in the Chase. Can these two Joe Gibbs Racing drivers achieve this? 3) Kevin Harvick wins for the fourth time this season, and is now tied with three other drivers for most wins (Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski AND Martin Truex Jr). The most drivers have tied with wins in a season end: 2012, Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski and Denny Hamlin 4) Kyle Busch finishes in the Top 5 for the FOURTH consecutive Kansas race. He's definitely turn things around here. 5) Alex Bowman becomes just the first driver for Hendrick Motorsports to score multiple Top 10's during their substitute run. He finishes 7th here (10th at Chicago). 6) Kevin Harvick continues to advance through all rounds in all 3 seasons of the elimination Chases with his win today. Of his 5 races, he has finished 20th or worse 3 times, while winning the other 2. He is also the only driver to win in each of the 4 rounds. 7) Toyota currently has a 26 point lead over Chevrolet in the Manufacturer's championship with 5 races remaining. It's a solid lead but anything can still happen, their hunt for their first ever Manufacturer title to break Chevrolet's long awaited streak begins as Chevy won the last two races. 8) As far as the cutoff line goes, Chase Elliott is in a must needed win position unless each of the drivers in front of him has issues and he salvage a Top 5 finish. Joey Logano and Austin Dillon are tied on the bubble for 8th. Talladega will be an interesting event to watch, let's hope none of the controversy that occurred with Kevin Harvick last season happens again and be annoyed by the fans who doesn't know how to let things go or think their season is completely trash based on a single race. 312. chevyfan98 posted: 10.16.2016 - 5:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 308- HI CMAN!!! We finally have a Carl Edwards sighting after he went missing in early September. This definetly changes everything for Keselowski. He's going to need to find the magic at the end of the race in Talladega like he did in October 2014, or at the very least he's going to have to run up front. Elliott is pretty much done unless he can get the win next week. Kenseth, Busch, and Edwards are relatively safe, but anything can still happen. The bubble will get tight, as Dillon and Logano are tied for the transfer spot right now. Great runs for Bowman, AJ, and Kahne. Kahne has definetly found something over the past several weeks. Talladega, like always, will be crazy. "NBC just beats that into our heads every single week." As I've gotten older I've realized that I'd much rather have someone a little more on the monotone side like Allen just kind of lingering in there like background music instead of having somebody constantly screaming and yelling for no reason (like that English guy that does Global Rallycross on NBC for example - or even Leigh Diffey, who I DO like but have found myself getting annoyed with recently). To me NBC is way better than Fox, but Gordon has seriously breathed some new life into the Fox broadcasts. Overall I don't think there's a whole lot to complain about on either network anymore (except for MW being useless, of course). Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer, uttered those words Monday on "The Morning Drive" on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio when asked about limiting Cup drivers in the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series. "It certainly is on our radar," O'Donnell said. "We've heard the fans. It's interesting, it's been a balance throughout the years. We've always had Sprint Cup drivers come into the Xfinity Series and sometimes dominate, back in the Mark Martin days. As the sport has evolved one of the great things is we've got more of a fan following in the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series. They like seeing those drivers come up through the ranks and it's our job to make sure that Xfinity is where names are made. We've got to do on that on the racetrack. That is something we're taking a really hard look at for next year, I'd say stay tuned. We're going to look at and probably have something to announce fairly soon." NASCAR prohibits any Cup driver who was in last year's Chase from competing in this year's season finale for the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway. One possibility could be for NASCAR to extend such a ban for all future Chase races in the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series. What I mention is a problem because Tony Stewart isn't racing in the cup series in 2017 and that means a chase spot is open along with the 34 car having a fluke win at Pocono. The fact is any cup driver that is in the 2017 chase would be at a huge advantage if it is one of the drivers that I mentioned. The fact is the cup version of the chase never gets all the same drivers in. 362. chevyfan98 posted: 10.17.2016 - 1:33 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Its a start. 363. Okay, but all the top teams could easily stop investing that much money into Xfinity and the series can die completely. So, for example, Kyle Busch would only be able to run 1 NXS/NCWTS race in 2016 because he was the Cup champion in 2015. However, David Ragan could run 27 races because he finished 27th in 2015. Of course, if a driver switched series designation, they could run as many races as they want in that series (for example, Justin Allgaier wouldn't be limited to 30 Xfinity races, because he went from Cup to Xfinity). And a driver could run as many races as they wanted in a higher series, as well. 366. Top 16 makes sense logistically from a sponsor standpoint in planning out a season in advance. Because if a Cup driver wins all the races, you can't win to get in the Chase or advance yourself. Basically, one bad race and you're out in this series, because there are only 12 drivers and the likelihood of another 4 drivers having issues isn't high. So Cup drivers + smaller Chase + no plate race leaves practically no room for error, whether that be driver, strategy, crew or parts error. 380. So he always ran half of all the races, sometimes even more (like 1995 - 15 out of 26). And that's the pretty same amount of races Kyle Busch runs this season - 17 out of 33). Look, if you mentioned Ryan Blaney, Kasey Kahne (nowadays) or Paul Menard, I would agree with you, but your argument is invalid with those names... Even Dale Earnhardt's schedule was pretty similar to running half of all the races. It's still interesting when Logano won at Charlotte, everyone didn't care much.
