She's done fairly decent here in the past and ran relatively well the past two races at Phoenix. Looks like a good weekend, top 10 doesn't look completely out of the question but a solid top 15 looks more likely. 3. chevyfan98 posted: 11.11.2016 - 8:16 pm Rate this comment: (3) (0) That top three gets a big thumbs up from me. Seriously, someone give Dominique Van Wieringen a Cup test (she isn't ready quite yet for a race, since jumping from East to Cup isn't a good idea, but a test, I don't see why not). 7. You spread blatantly false crud like that and then whine when people roast you for it. Alex Bowman has accomplished more this year than Danica has in her entire stock car racing career. Get the frig outta here with that nonsense. You'd be doing all of us a favor. 8. Eric posted: 11.11.2016 - 8:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Danica10Racer, If Alex Bowman is such a Marginal cup driver, how do explain him having more top 10's this year than Danica despite this only being his 9 cup race of the season? Alex matter of fact has 2 top 10's this year in 8 starts and that is the same amount as Danica had in 2015. The other thing is Marginal cup drivers don't get top 10 finishes in a top equipment. The only reason Alex did so bad before the 88 car in cup because Red Bull Racing and Tommy Baldwin Racing equipment is pure garbage. 9. rm posted: 11.11.2016 - 9:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Truex will start last after his backup car failed tech inspection in time for him to make a qualifying attempt. Canadian DJ Kennington will make his Cup debut for Premium Motorsports. I can't say that the expectations are very high for him, but hopefully the now-Pinty's series regular will stay out of trouble. 10. BluesTravelerFan posted: 11.11.2016 - 9:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Okay, to win this race, I'm going to go out on a serious limb and pick... Kevin Harvick. That being said, you have to wonder if there will be any carryover from last week's incident with the 3 car. You have to remember not only the what happened at Texas but the way he very unceremoniously left RCR to go to SHR. I still pick him of course but it's not a guarantee by any means I think And congrats to Alex on a VERY well deserved pole. After all the bad breaks he's had it's sweet to see this. And though it seriously sucks to continue to not see Dale Jr. out there it's still great to see his car do so well. Good luck to Bowman in the race. Also while I think Harvick will win this race I predict it will be the end of his Phoenix dominance with SHR switching to Ford next year. And finally, since I'm a glutton for punishment even though I've fallen flat on my face with this twice in the same Chase, I'm picking Kurt Busch as the guy to take advantage should the 4 car slip up. I'm probably speaking more from the heart than with logic here, but I think the 41 has one more surprise up their sleeve. 12. Canadianfan posted: 11.11.2016 - 10:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) For DJ I would say 31st to 35th would be a good result for him and that a top 30 finish would be like winning for him and that team. 13. chevyfan98 posted: 11.11.2016 - 11:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) So here's a question. Will Bowman run the Shootout next year? Junior will (hopefully) be back in the 88 by then, but could he run a different car? What about the #5? 14. Captain51 posted: 11.11.2016 - 11:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bowman in the shootout? I'm going to say no. I don't see him having a cup ride, so a cup team would have to field a car and get sponsorship for the shootout. In that case, I don't know if it would be worth it. Look at the Labonte brothers. They've been eligible for a couple years. But a team isn't going to field a ride for them. They'd have to get a sponsor, and the risk of losing their Daytona car isn't worth it 15. NASCAR posted: 11.12.2016 - 1:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) "Truex will start last after his backup car failed tech inspection in time for him to make a qualifying attempt." The reason the 78 team was going to a backup is because Truex smacked the wall near the end of practice on Friday. As far as Danica10's comments, let's all remember that those are his OPINIONS. Comments 7 and 10 both said Danica10 spreads false info (again, it is his opinion, not fact) and that Bowman is a nice guy with a passion for racing (who's to say Danica isn't nice in her personal life? and she must have a passion if she has been able to attain marginal success in her racing career). 16. chevyfan98 posted: 11.12.2016 - 2:50 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) ^Someone forgot to change their name back... 17. Another previous time that there was a shocking pole winner was when Jimmy Hensley qualified Earnhardt's #3 on the pole in Martinsville 1989. You have it all wrong, Danica statistically is not a Cup level driver, Bowman has had crap equipment the last two seasons and while he didn't light the world on fire showed promise. Danica has had theoretically a Hendrick car for the last four seasons and has good runs few and far between. Now that's out of my system, congrats to Alex on his first career cup pole. 27. No and, or, buts and opinions about this fact. Take it or leave it. My gosh take this over to Facebook or stop whining. Move on. Everyone has had months of debating this. It's getting annoying seeing every NASCAR comment section transit into this pointless discussion because she doesn't have a hint of a penis. 31. Jolly Mean Giant posted: 11.12.2016 - 5:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Basically what Clint said. It's because you've pretty much out and out said in the past that you believe Danica is vastly superior to Bowman in terms of talent. Whenever Bowman has a problem in the #88, you attribute him to having no talent, while whenever Danica has a problem you hand-wave it as simple "bad luck". I wouldn't be shocked if you thought Danica was the most deserving driver for the #88 in the future (supposing Junior cannot last more than another year or so) just because you like her that much. And that's why, NASCAR (David?) why we keep harping on this guy. I would not have a problem with him being a Danica fan if he didn't keep trying to tout her up while simultaneously slamming and trying to bring drivers down that are outdoing her-when he has zero reason to do so. He's so blinded by the driver he likes it makes it hard to take anything he says seriously... It is admittedly hard to really judge someone off of just 8 (will be 9 tomorrow) races in elite equipment, but from what I've seen, I think Bowman has the potential to be a good driver if given a full-time opportunity in above-average equipment. Prior to this the only equipment he's driven in Cup has been garbage-BK Racing and Tommy Baldwin Racing. Personally, I don't think even a Jimmie Johnson/Kyle Busch/Kevin Harvick level talent could make that equipment look good; I think Bowman did about as well as one could hope for with that equipment (was not a crash machine or anything, which teams like that do not like because they don't have the funds to repair wrecked cars week in and week out). From what I've seen in the 8 races Bowman has competed in the #88 thus far, he's outperformed Danica in the #10. It's hard to argue against that, but I really want to see our favorite Danica fan try his damnedest to prove otherwise. Then I might actually be able to get behind his idea that Bowman is a minimally-talented at best driver... 32. Jolly Mean Giant posted: 11.12.2016 - 5:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) ...And that is my final say-so on this. I have to agree with Sector-we really need to stop engaging this guy's blind Danica love and needless hatred on other drivers. It is annoying, but perhaps it would be best if we just let him live in his fantasy life where she's one of the top 10 most naturally talented Cup drivers and move on. Of course, I know this won't do any good, because not only will he probably continue to make cringe-worthy posts, but I know people (including probably myself, making me a hypocrite-well, I guess at least I can admit I CAN be hypocritical at times) will continue to engage him at every turn and corner. And the never-ending debate about whether she's a great driver held back by everyone and everything else around her, or a mediocre driver taking up space in good equipment will likely go on ad infinitum, up until the day Danica makes her final Cup series start. And even then it probably won't stop-I could see people STILL debating it 20 years after Danica's out of NASCAR altogether. And that is one of the saddest things I think of... 33. Rick I don't know if it's legal could restart his Xfinity program or put Dale Jr. Could put Alex in the JRM 88 Full or part-time. Hell, we've seen PLENTY of occasions over the past several years where all the drivers seemingly shut off the thinking part of their brains and just go nuts in the final 20% of a race or so. A scenario like what happened to Kenseth doesn't come as a HUGE surprise to me under this situation. You put people in desperate situations with a last chance restart (Bowman fighting for his NASCAR career, Kyle fighting for his Championship hopes), weird things will often happen. *NOTE: Kyle Busch and Joe Gibbs Racing did not pay me to say the above comment, nor am I by any means a Kyle fan (will never deny the sheer talent he has though, even if I find him unlikable from a personality standpoint). I have better things to do with my time than worry every week about how she's doing because it's completely inconsequential to me. Hell, if it weren't for people like you who keep her relevant, she'd probably get mentioned 3-5 times tops in each week's comments section outside of her crashing or having a problem, because she's just that much of a nonfactor each and every race. If Alan and co. really wants this site to get back to the activity level and the relative camaraderie that it had in 2012-2013, it's time to take some proactive steps in improving this community. Now I can understand why the webmaster would not want all this responsibility to fall on himself, which is why an actual forum would be the best step for this community. Even if it was just utilizing a free forum creator such as Forumotions or ProBoards (both of which I have experience with as a moderator/administrator), and not going the self-hosted route, I think it would improve basically everything about these comment boards. From more rigorous post moderation, to further discussion opportunities, to basically just taking a lot of responsibility off of Alan, I don't see the downside at all. Joey was probably still ahead of Kyle when they crossed the last line which is how he ended up with the lead. Joey could have also been ahead of Bowman at that line too, but I think the reason why Bowman wasn't given the lead is because NASCAR probably ruled he was in the wreck and lined him up where they felt he regained control. 617. He didn't seem TOO bothered about missing the cut for the championship round and came off as quite grateful to his crew for just helping him get this far in the first place. This year...has been quite full of interviews from him of that nature. I can think of several races this year where he's come off that way after a strong run, and he's handled disappointment much better than in the past (well, minus Harvick punching him after Talladega). He was disappointed but not especially angry after getting wrecked on the last lap of the Coke Zero 400 by Logano, and also handled crashing out at Bristol and Darlington quite well too. While the verdict is still out on his younger brother Kyle reaching maturation (I would say...in some ways yes, in other ways no), I actually feel pretty confident in saying we ARE seeing a new, more mature Kurt Busch. Don't know what caused it (maybe the time spent in garbage equipment coupled with getting suspended made him realize he was not as important to NASCAR as he thought he once was?), but I for one welcome this newer Kurt. It's nice to see that people CAN change and grow as individuals; heck, it's refreshing to see he's gone from the guy who used to throw his crew under the bus on a regular basis and curse up a blue streak at them over the radio to now genuinely thanking them after the race! 619. Going to say it one last time, but if that performance doesn't get him a decent ride next year, nothing will. 621. joey2448 posted: 11.14.2016 - 7:02 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Did this race remind anyone of the NASCAR of 10-15 years ago? When seemingly anyone could show up and run up front/lead laps in mid pack equipment? It sure did for me. Of course, we all agree (well, most of us) that Alex Bowman seems to have a bright future after multiple strong runs in both the Xfinity and Cup series, but this race just blew me away in how dominant Bowman was in the No. 88. He would simply drive away from the field after restarts. Of course, lot of that credit has to go to the 88 team for building excellent cars, but it also takes a superb driver to pilot a fast car, and "Bowman the Showman" showed us all he can compete at the top level. Now, the incident with Kenseth. While I felt absolutely terrible for Bowman because of his involvement in ruining a Chase driver's season, I do felt he was at fault. Yes, Kenseth's spotter told him he was clear and had room to turn down into the corner, but after the block Bowman put on Kyle Busch (which anyone would certainly be entitled to do, Chase driver or not), he entered the corner with too much speed and at an angle that was never going to work with another driver on his outside. So while I fault Bowman for the wreck, I still do feel gutted for him that he affected the championship picture, which I'm sure was the last thing he wanted to do. 622. In that article that surfaced a little while ago, some people said they didn't experience that "good feeling" that NASCAR used to bring but yesterday, along with other races this season, had it. I liked how there were many comers and goers in the race, even though Bowman, Logano, and Kenseth dominated much of the race. At various points in the race, you had those three, Johnson, Keselowski, Hamlin, Kurt and Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, Kahne, Harvick, Larson, and even Greg Biffle at one point, contending for top five spots. It was very interesting to see. Shout out to Kurt Busch, as well. He drove from 10th to 5th on the final restart. 623. JSPorts posted: 11.14.2016 - 10:09 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yes, I agree. He proved it last year and it wasn't enough. He is doing it again this year and it is still not enough. With barely 100 laps to go he was in 12th and fading fast. He was on the radio with his crew talking about the car not rotating and he didn't know why. He wasn't swearing up a storm and wasn't blaming the crew. They were calmly talking and the crew chief told him don't worry we have at least 2 more swings at it. The old Kyle Busch would have panicked. He would have blamed the crew. He would have blamed the car and he would have over driven to the point he wrecked or used up the car and would have been out of chase contention by the time there were 50 to go. He has changed. Accepted it. 625. chevyfan98 posted: 11.14.2016 - 11:17 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Something interesting about the final four I don't think anyone has pointed out yet. It will be the first time in the three year history of the new chase that teammates both made the final four (Busch and Edwards). 2014 had one car from SHR, RCR, Gibbs, and Penske, and last year had one car from Gibbs, SHR, Hendrick, and Furniture Row. Another thing that's quite shocking honestly is that it'll be the first year without an RCR-affiliated car in the final four. Newman made it in 2014 and Truex last year when Furniture Row had RCR power. 626. JSPorts posted: 11.14.2016 - 12:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yes, I did notice that. Since the article says manufacturer & sponsor will be announced later, my guess is they switch to Ford with Roush help, since he is still under contract (I believe) with RFR. The sponsor will most likely by Feed the Children, Krispy Kreme, Gemini Southern, or a combination of all 3 (I would bet on a combination). Good luck to him, that's a big task he's undertaking. I do question this at his experience level; he only has 65 starts in 7 series listed on this site, and though he has 30 top 10s, he has just 1 victory. But I'll keep an open mind about him, as he's only 18 and definitely has time to grow. Remember, Jimmie's first championship was 2006, ten years ago. 14 years separated Dale's 7 titles, and 15 separated Petty's. Will Kevin bring it home? He's got one title, and the king of last lap moves wants another. How bout Kyle, who won the championship last year despite missing the first third of the season? He worked his way up high enough in points so he'd be counted for the Chase, and did well enough within the Chase to take home the title. Can he prove he deserved every bit of it? Or Carl? Carl has come close a lot, losing in a tie in 2011 to Tony Stewart. Will he redeem himself? Speaking of, Tony is retiring after about fifteen years in Cup. Before Cup, he was an ace in USAC Silver Crown, and did well in the then-new IRL. He leaves with three titles. Tony's had a pretty bad last couple years, between Kevin Ward, a broken leg, and a horrible 2015, but has been able to find some extra speed this year, scoring a win and a Chase spot (which went poorly). Brian Scott also retires after this race. Scott has been in Xfinity for about six or seven years, and made it to Cup I think two years back? May be wrong...but he's decided to head home and take care of the family. Well, you guys will find out Sunday night at Homestead. I WON'T because I'm busy Sunday night. So yeah. Have fun. 634. That doesn't however make him a "fringe level Cup driver" when he's had the best runs in the #88 all season, including any of Junior and Gordon's in my opinion...and certainly a better run than Kahne had all season as well. I think he is the true breakout driver of this year more than Chase Elliott and Chris Buescher who were already 'proven' based on their Xfinity titles, while Bowman still has not won a race at anything higher than the ARCA level. I was kind of surprised how well Kenseth handled it based on how he treated Logano last year. I'm thinking 18 19 48 22 as far as the order of finish goes. Gibbs has faster intermediate cars than Hendrick, while Penske's been (relatively) lacking on them on the 1.5-mile tracks... While Carl Edwards deserves a title theoretically based on the level of success he's had, I don't see him having the edge Kyle does. Carl seems more poised to be a next-generation Mark Martin always a bridesmaid, and I've got a feeling both Hamlin and Logano will beat him to titles. (Actually I remember making an argument last year for why I'd have gripes with the entire final EIGHT drivers winning... though a few of them, namely Harvick and Logano, who were by far the two best drivers of the year, were due to the controversy they were involved in). Anyway, I'm pulling for Jimmie (who is actually probably the least deserving of the four) but I wouldn't have any major problems with any of the other drivers winning even though I strongly dislike two of them. Edwards has been so close to winning a championship he deserves one (best active driver without a title right now IMO), Kyle Busch is the best driver of the year left now that Harvick and Truex are eliminated, and Logano has been ultra-consistent and stayed out of controversy so I wouldn't have a problem with him winning to make up for last year when he was hands down one of the two best drivers but took himself out of contention, even though he hasn't been as good this year. 644. I don't usually speak personally on here, but before this last weekend's race I just to want to extend my gratitude to all the people here on this site as well as get some things off my chest. I'm getting ready to get really bitchy and I apologize if I get on anyone's nerves, but I don't really have anywhere else to vent, and I feel I need to. I've been posting a bit more frequently recently as I've been watching a bit more racing because there hasn't been much going for me recently. It's been a very difficult year for me personally, as a number of adverse things have happened in my life, on top of the fact as I've stated on here before life is already a struggle for me coping with high-functioning autism as well as at times severe anxiety disorder. In just the span of the last 10 months I have found out I most likely wouldn't never get a chance to be with a girl I've been in love with for 3 years(more on this later), then promptly got involved with another girl (my first actual gf) who turned out to be literally crazy and possibly evil and even after we broke up has continued to cause problems and tried to get me in trouble. Then I had to spend over a month straight in the hospital watching my Grandmother die a slow and painful death all because an unscrupulous doctor made a big kickback from getting her hooked on prescription drugs (she passed away the day after the Sonoma race), then saw my family get in an ugly battle over her estate which dragged on for months. Then around the start of the Chase, my parents saved up enough to go on our first vacation in forever and we decided to celebrate my birthday by going to the beach, only to get there and receive a call about 6 hours after we arrived that my Grandpa had passed away. THEN not long after finding out there might be hope for me with the aforementioned first girl, ( who is the only person I've ever had feelings for) I find out she/he has decided he wants to be transgender and identify as a male (which I just want to say I do NOT have a problem with, that is great for him and I have no problems with the transgendered but it also changes this situation a lot). And it hasn't exactly been a banner year in sports for me either, I watched UNC lose the National Title in the worst way possible, saw Dale Jr. get knocked out of the second half of the season of course, then was on the basketball court with my Special Olympics teammates as we lost the state title on a buzzer beater. Phew, glad I got that all off my chest. Getting back to this site, I've posted as a semi-regular now for over three years and have really enjoyed my time so far, having enjoyed all the debates and jokes and good times, but it's especially meant a lot to me during these tough times. If not for this site I don't know what I would have done. You guys have welcomed me throughout my time here and made me feel like I'm part of a family, and I truly appreciate it. This isn't a farewell, I'll still post this week and weekend, then take my usual off season break, then be back hopefully, but I will posting under a new name this weekend. It's time for a change. Thank all you guys so much for everything, this site has been one of the few things that makes me happy, sorry to have sounded so sappy lol. Cheers everybody. 649. I had to watch my grandmother waste away from cancer, and my grandfather was severely senile when I last saw him before my grandmother's death, to the point where he no longer knew who I was and thought his own parents-who died many years before-were still alive. It's so...sad seeing people you've loved and cared about for years just totally collapse and crumble apart like that...My grandfather's funeral was the first I ever attended in my life and it was really tough on me having to speak and say some words of remembrance for him; it's not something I want to have to repeat anytime soon... To make matters worse I basically had to witness my mother's family implode in top of that. I think there'd always been animosity but the whole issue of money and inheritance REALLY brought those to a head. I had to witness my own family members screaming at each other and at each other's throats over every little thing, and learn all sorts of ugly secrets about them I never wish I'd learned (won't go into any more detail than that other than I lost a TON of respect for some of my own relations). It got so ugly last year after my grandfather's death that one night my cousin and I basically just went out into a secluded place in the woods for a couple of hours to just discuss things and get away from all the animosity because I was about to have a breakdown being subjected to all of that! Money...I realize it's a basic human necessity, but it does HORRIBLE things to people. It turns people against those they once loved and makes friends into bitter enemies. It is NOT pleasant to see people reduced to that, at all. I've had to deal with other serious issues in my life, such as health concerns and severe anxiety attacks (I was having them so bad a couple of years ago that I would go multiple nights without being able to sleep...), but I think my family issues have affected me the worst of all. I'm still not quite over it yet, and I'm not sure I ever quite will. It was just...a LOT to be subjected to, especially to someone not used to having experienced personal loss and its' aftermath like that before... So remember, BluesTravelerFan...you are certainly not alone in having to deal with adversity and hardship in your life. I think all of us will at some point, even the nicest of us who don't deserve to be subjected to hardship. But we all have to get by somehow. The best we can do is hope that things will get better in time...maybe. As others have said, you're not alone. These last two years have been pretty rough on me as well, last year my local go-kart track that I'd been racing at for five years closed down (not just for fun either, I was actually in a competitive league there, and the track was owned by former Le Mans racer Francois Duret, he actually has a RR page), then I totaled my car in October driving home from school and that took a big mental toll on me, thank goodness I wasn't hurt and the police officer was kind enough to not charge me with anything. Oh yeah and I had to watch probably the worst NASCAR season in recent memory, so bad that for the first time ever I actually reconsidered my NASCAR fandom. Then came 2016. A new hope to put the awfulness of 2015 behind. I should've known when David Bowie, Alan Rickman, and Glenn Frey all died within the space of a few weeks in January it was going to be another shitty year. In June I had to say goodbye to some of my closest friends as I graduated high school, in July I found out my favorite driver was sidelined with a concussion (would end up being for the rest of the season), and in August I had to say goodbye to my parents as I entered the new world of college that I'm becoming increasingly convinced that I'm not ready for yet. And this past month in particular has been especially awful. My dog died, my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer, and I've gone the longest stretch in my lifetime without seeing my family (which will finally end on Friday when I come home for Thanksgiving break, I've literally been counting down days). And don't even get me started on the reality show known as the election. My sleep schedule is beyond screwed up, I think I've been awake more at night than during the day lately. (Actually just woke up for the day... at 3:00 in the morning. So yeah I'm hoping to stay up until at least 7:00 PM tonight). Anyway, I'm glad I could share that as well. I remember before I even started commenting here there would be days when I had nothing going on and just spend hours on end reading old comments and getting lost in this world here, that's some good medicine. I hadn't done it in a long time until recently, but doing it these last couple of weeks brought back some great memories. Now, on other things: "Gunsmoke beat Nascar Q in the 18-49 range". Haha. On a similar note though, the show that passed it a while back for most seasons of an American Sitcom/Drama The Simpsons I heard a while back will probably end after season 30, which would be in Spring 2019. I love the Simpsons and consider the "golden era" single digit seasons the greatest in TV history, but it's about TIME! While the modern era episodes aren't usually downright terrible and there's still a lot worse out there this show has seriously stayed on the air at least 10 years too long. Even it's creator Matt Groening admitted he rarely watches the new episodes, so that tells you something right there. And of course you really have to wonder just how they are going to go about the finale when it comes. I mean HOW do you end what many consider one of if not the greatest American sitcoms ever and one that's been on the air for longer than any other? I really hope they are able to do it justice. Looking forward to that day. "In other news Pocono has put in a full ticket refund for weather cancelling the race. There have been enough times where people have been gypped by racetracks over things like this, and hopefully other tracks will begin to follow suit. I remember one time when I was a kid that we went to a short track race and we got to see literally about 5 minutes of action before the sky opened up, and the track would not give us a refund, and we ended up being out a good 40 dollars for a race we didn't get to see. I gained even more respect for Brandon Igdalsky and his people there, kudos to them. "And don't even get me started on the reality show known as the election". Oh man I know. I'm just glad it's over so I don't have to see any more political ads, and not have the phone ring off the hook at our house 11-12 times a day and have our answering machine littered with messages (there's probably about 3 hours worth just over the last month on there). Next time I post here (which will probably be after the Homestead page is up) I will be under a new name as I already mentioned, it will be another music reference. It's been a fun ride with John Popper and his wizardly harmonica ways over this time but it's time to ride with another awesome frontman. I won't give it away yet, but I will say that next week Blues Traveler will be performing not far from where I live, and then the next day a guy from the band that will be referenced in my next screen name will be playing in the same place. Unfortunately I will get to see neither of these shows, but oh well.. Anyways I'm issuing a challenge to everyone here: The first person to figure out who the nickname is referencing will get a thumbs up from me, AND if I ever start my band (I'm a drummer/bassist as I've said on here before) and get to make that album I dream of making soon (which may or mot ever happen lol), that person will get a free copy of that album. I'm not sure exactly where the loop was but Kenseth and Bowman were probably ahead of Joey and Kyle at that time. But, since Kenseth and Bowman were involved in the caution, they were sent to the back, leaving Logano as the leader. 664. I'm torn on this one because Vai isn't really associated with a single band in a big way but it seems more likely a blues-rock guy would go for a guitar virtuoso than a post-punk star like Joy Division/New Order alumnus Peter Hook. However, given your autism I could see the appeal of their styles (even though I also have Asperger's and "She's Lost Control" is the only Joy Division song I like...) After some deliberation (and without looking for all your old music ranking related posts, which I know you participated in), I'm going to guess a Joy Division reference as while neither Joy Division nor Vai has much to do with Blues Traveler, nor do either of them have as much 'soul', JD had a simpler playing style and were more 'raw', so I guess they're marginally closer... 666. Yeah, that's correct. I've looked this up before and I'm almost certain that the 5 in 1991 and 2002 (and I think there was one other year pretty recently where the leading winner won only 5 races - 2012?) was the lowest number since. 667. It's very confusing because it's clear as day to me when the accident took place the 18 passed the 22 and the light was still green then turnes yellow. And somehow when the 88 & 20 wrecked, perhaps the 22 might have just gotten the lead by a nose. I feel bad for the 88 because every time I watch him and Chase lead a bunch of laps or in position to win it's like they can't finish it off. But that doesn't matter to me, they're kids anyway, Chase won't win this year but for sure he'll be in victory lane three times next year, but I still don't have him as my title contender. He still has a lot to learn like leading all the way and making sure that no one causes a caution. I have no clue for Bowman's future so who knows. It was a good race, I just wished NASCAR kept looking at the replay more often. 670. That has confused me in the past, particularly in one Martinsville race when Jimmie Johnson lost the lead and fell to 5th in a straightaway but was restored to the lead when the caution came out because there wasn't a scoring checkpoint in between. I think we have the technology now to freeze the field precisely on the spot, and I think that is what NASCAR should do. 673. I didn't respond to this last night because I felt it would be insensitive in the wake of the BTF posts last night, but I disagree. Edwards is better at scoring points consistently over a 36-race period, I will give you that. His best seasons are better. However, when it actually comes to winning a title at THIS format, beating the other cars at Homestead is what is important (and it usually seems to be set up so that the champion must win the race), and Hamlin has 25 wins to Edwards's 12 since the start of 2009, and he has matched or beaten Edwards in top fives in every uninjured season in that period except 2011. I think Edwards is more consistent, but he's usually less dominant than Hamlin. Consistency can get you to the finals, but beating the other three cars in the final round is something I can more easily see Hamlin doing. If we were still using a 36-race points system, I would agree with this. Edwards's best days I think were in the past. I see Hamlin as more likely to produce an explosive season in the future. Strangely Hamlin hasn't seemed to have the speed of the other JGR/FRR cars on the superspeedways this season, probably because he has a brand new crew chief. His 3 wins are at Daytona, Watkins Glen, and Richmond. What do you think Hamlin could do if he suddenly had cars as fast on the intermediate superspeedways as the 18 and 78 have had? Although this is Edwards' best season since 2011, I don't think he'll reach the levels of dominance that he did in 2008 and 2011 ever again. However, considering his track record at Homestead, I would think that he has to be a title favorite for Sunday. And as a longtime Edwards fan, 2011 still stings for me (I'll sound butthurt for this rant, but I don't care) Stewart just beat him in the final 10 races fair and square (and did a fantastic job doing so), but it's not like Edwards choked either, his worst finish in the Chase was 11th. Edwards that year also felt like a Jeff Gordon 2007 type deal, where they had a stellar Chase, lost to someone who had an even better one, and would have won by a landslide under the year long format. Under the season long format, Edwards would have beat Harvick by 78 points, but keep in mind that this is a huge lead. I decided to make a rough conversion to the Latford system, and since the max is 195 to 48, 195/48 = 4.0625. If you multiply that by 78, it means that Edwards would have won by roughly 300 points. Had there been no Chase in reality, I don't anyone would catch him...Anyways, did Carl have a championship caliber season in 2016? No, not at all. But combined with his great performance record at Homestead and the fact that I feel like he deserves to be a champion (and his window is closing fast), I'll be pulling like crazy for him 4 days from now. 676. Well, agree, except that I think intermediate results primarily depend on car setup, and driver talent plays a minimal role (although I admit there are a few standouts and Edwards is one of them) and maybe that indicates Hamlin hasn't had as good setups on those tracks as Edwards usually has had. "673- You mention Homestead being the "winner take all" race, but Edwards has just as good of a record at Homestead as Hamlin does, if not better. I agree Edwards's Homestead record is superior, but I think Hamlin's greater recent results in general would still lead me to expect more from him. And I really don't believe in 'choking' much at all. Too many people here act like people are 'destined' to win titles and others are not solely because of their psychology. I think people here psychoanalyze drivers way too much and while I'll admit that may play a role in some cases (Kyle Busch, Will Power) it's way too overused here. Edwards is a good example. I don't think he really choked in '08 or '11, and I would honestly blame Grubb running Hamlin out of fuel at Phoenix more than Hamlin himself for '10. While I acknowledge some people can will themselves to titles (Stewart in 2011 is the most recent example), it's too simplistic to reduce everything to that sort of narrative. Trent Dilfer was clutch because he won a Super Bowl! Dan Marino wasn't! I think the other members of the team play an important role, and the same applies to NASCAR. Yeah, maybe Kyle Busch and Will Power choked prolifically, but I'd hesitate to criticize too many other drivers in that regard. Usually it's just luck. 685.
