However, none of the SHR cars had good speed. 2. rm posted: 03.10.2017 - 9:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Eh, the other 3 cars were in the top 20 but I would still say you're right as usually they put a car or two in the final round. Especially surprising since Harvick is just coming off of a pole position at Atlanta where all of the SHR cars ran in the top 15 or 20 for the majority of the day. 3. I'm most impressed by Erik Jones in eighth, driving that second Furniture Row Racing car! That kid seems to really be real, he ran in the top-10 at Atlanta last week, now he's qualified up front at Vegas. Ganassi Racing continues their hot streak to the start of the season. Kyle Larson came close to winning the first two races, now starts fifth this weekend and teammate Jamie Mac is up in the top-10 in qualifying. 15. joey2448 posted: 03.11.2017 - 2:59 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) This race comes on the heels of the track announcing a second race date for 2018. Because it's silly for a driver to actually have to-GASP-WORK hard to show they can belong to the sport rather than just come in with name recognition already behind them and just coast on it forever. The latter category is CLEARLY the one more worthy of your respect. All hail D10Racer, the Great Sage of Wisdom for Racing-Reference! 28. I wouldn't of said anything if it wasn't for his constant unwarranted attacks against Alex Bowman recently. He constantly criticizes him for the simple fact he outperformed Danica. Everyone here is sick of seeing his nonsense, and he refuses to see that Danica is not improving despite her lackluster results for the past year. Eric posted: 03.12.2017 - 2:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @28, What you said is false about the NFL. I have been Green Packer fan since 1987 back when I was in grade school. The Green Bay Packers only missed the playoffs 6 times since the start of the 1992 season. You may not know this, Green Bay Packers are a small market and their team is publicly owned. Green Bay Packers is known as one of the top teams of the NFL since 1992 and went to the NFC championship 7 times since the start of the 1995 season. 39. Danica10Racer posted: 03.12.2017 - 2:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @38 Extenuating circumstance. The Packers are the reason I added that clause in (as well as the Cavs because they have the best player in the game). The Cowboys may be "America's Team" but the Packers are the NFL's favorite team. The Packers (as well as the Bears, but they are major market) represent the original NFL that was founded in 1920. The Packers will never move because that would be slighting the tradition and history of the NFL. The Packers are not a true small market team in the sense of Tennessee, Jacksonville or Carolina. Plus the Packers have a huge bandwagon following for some reason. 40. Pickles posted: 03.12.2017 - 2:29 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) "The Big 4 Sports are dominated by Large Market teams" I wouldn't say that's exactly an accurate statement. Going back to the millennium NHL - 6/16, 37% Small Market Champions , 13/32 40% Finals Appearances MLB - 9/17, 52% Small Market Champions , 16/34 47% Finals Appearances NFL - 7/17, 41% Small Market Champions , 17/34 50% Finals Appearances That's favorable numbers for the large markets but not exactly dominating. The only outlier is the NBA, which is almost entirely dominated by large market teams. "Markets" are determined by how many people live in and around the area and thus how much money they generate; Not how valuable the team is. Like the above mentioned, the Packers are arguably the most valuable team in the NFL, but you would have to be severely mental to say Green Bay is a large market. 41. Danica10Racer posted: 03.12.2017 - 2:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I said that Green Bay is not a true small market team. Small market teams rarely have a large following outside of the region they are in. The Packers have a huge following outside of Wisconsin & the UP of Michigan. I wouldn't say Green Bay is small market for that reason. Hell, Minnesota is in their division and is more small market than Green Bay is. 42. Contrastly, the JTG expansion has gone horribly thus far. Buescher has been no faster than he was last year in the 34, and Allmendinger has taken a step back, aside from his lucky top-five at Daytona. The Ganassi cars are BAD fast, and I'm impressed. Larson has finished second twice, and was a couple laps from a potential Daytona 500 Championship. McMurray also has finished in the top ten the last two weeks, and easily had a top-five car at Daytona. That team has started the year off 3/3 in performance. Bad luck continues for KyBu. 0/3 in top-tens. Nobody saw that coming. I expected more from his teammate Suarez as well. While Jones holds his own in the top fifteen, Suarez has been hanging around the likes of Ty Dillon, Almirola, McDowell, and Menard... Johnson hasn't had speed this year, and the 48 seems to be experiencing a hangover from their unexpected seventh title. Expect them in the mix by midsummer. As for Dale Jr. in the 88....I'm not so sure. That team has been out to lunch, and with the way Elliott and Kahne have been running, I'm inclined to blame the driver. As for surprises, shout out to Trevor Bayne. Finishes of 10th, 12th, and 13th have him in early Chase contention. Aric Almirola, with a 4th and a 14th, seems to have taken a big leap forward after a dreadful 2016. Maybe he could find himself in position for a potential surprise win and Chase berth if he keeps this up. Lastly, shout out to McDowell, running solidly in the top 25 all year so far and bringing it home 18th today. Props to DiBenedetto and the 32 team as well, taking advantage of misfortune to achieve finishes of 9th, 28th, and 26th thus far. Never before was that team a weekly threat for top-30 finishes. Good on them. 190. The Great Dave posted: 03.12.2017 - 7:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) "I get why Logano has a history, but Kyle went into HULK mode. Did you blame Kahne when the 5 was out to lunch, or did you blame the crew chief too? I think it's a mixture of lots of things. A 93-time race winner could barely stay in the top-20 in the same car last year. Clearly there are a lot of issues, horrible luck notwithstanding. They're probably in for about a 26th-28th place finish in points with maybe 1 top-10. I don't know the root cause but the performance is poor. So poor that 16th really isn't that bad to me. Not great for most teams but that's not something Go FAS did regularly last year - those match Jeffrey Earnhardt's best two intermediate track finishes from last year, and we're only 3 races into 2017. I get as pessimistic as they come too but I also try to stay realistic (or the pessimistic side of it). I felt like, going into a year with a team that underperformed in his absence and driving a lower-downforce car (remember Dale Jr. won a bunch of races in the 88 in '14-15 with high downforce) that this could be a struggle. And that's not even mentioning the age and various injuries. A lot of Dale Jr. fans are really trigger-happy with emotions because they don't want him to fall into a 2009 rut again and they know that as he's gotten older, the chances to win have gotten smaller and smaller (again, save for 2014 which was mostly awesome). I've got to give him props, though. I know Junior has a legion of fans (and it's rarely discussed but a legion of avid haters) but he's such a regular and down-to-earth dude that even in a down year he's not losing any fans. 210. Logano did absolutely nothing wrong, it was the last lap of the race so why should he give Kyle room to pass Brad and potentially beat him to the start-finish line? It's not Joey Logano's responsibility to make sure Kyle Busch can safely get around a slow car, it's Kyle Busch's. Kyle chose to swerve down and hit Logano instead of falling in line, and Logano gave him what he deserved as a result. Hope Kyle enjoys that 22nd place finish and bloody gash. What Kyle did after the race was completely dumb. You don't go down alone to a guy's pit stall and sucker punch him and NOT expect his guys to defend him. And now Kyle is talking about paying Joey back. For what exactly? Kyle drove into Joey in the first place and Kyle confronted Joey on pit road. Kyle Busch is by far the biggest tool in NASCAR and he seems to feel the need to remind everyone of that now and again. 248. On the last lap of the race, there was absolutely no reason for Joey to just give another driver room to pass him. Kyle hit Joey first, and Joey paid him back in turn 3. That should have been the end of it, but Kyle decided to show some of that typical Busch immaturity and escalated the issue. 250. You forgot plan C: slow down and fall in line behind the 22 to avoid hitting either car. Don't worry, apparently Busch forgot this one too. He didn't even pretend to slow down. It didn't matter how much room Logano gave him, Kyle was going to swerve left to avoid Keselowski no matter what. And most drivers have done exactly what Logano did: get loose and slide up the track after getting sent way left on entry by a guy who had too much pride to lift. They're both at fault. I don't blame one more than the other. I do blame Kyle, however, for throwing a punch over something he would've 100% done. Kyle's done far worse. He comes across as a serious hypocrite because he really can't handle getting raced the way he races others. Kyle had all the time in the world to avoid contact but instead he went dirty on the backstretch rather than lose a spot. And when you go dirty, sometimes someone dirties you back. That's racing. I mean, when Kyle cut left on the backstretch, it hooks Logano so hard that he left skidmarks while saving it. First of all, you might want to double-check your grammar before questioning the intelligence of others. Yes, Kyle absolutely should have let off as he was in position to either plow into Keselowski if he held his line or swerve into Logano if he tried to avoid him at speed. It's his responsibility to avoid hitting a slow car, not Brad's and not Joey's. Logano was in a position to pass the #2 without hitting him, he had no reason to accommodate Kyle Busch also getting around him when they were in a battle for position. Kyle had three choices: A) plow into the #2 and lose a lot of spots, B) swerve into the #22 and continue to battle him for position, or C) let off and lose at least the one spot but no more than 2 or 3. He chose option B without considering the repercussions of that choice, and look where it got him. I've never been a fan of Logano, but I respect him for standing up for himself whenever he is challenged.
