RaceFanX posted: 06.06.2017 - 10:44 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It's a best of times, worst of times debut for Darrell "Bubba" Wallace, Jr. He gets to make his Cup debut subbing for the injured Aric Almirola but at the same time his full-time NASCAR Xfinity Series team has run out of sponsorship and is likely to shut down. Here's hoping he can turn in a good run and turn some heads to keep racing. Wallace becomes the first African-American racer in NASCAR's top series since Truck series racer Bill Lester ran two races in early 2006, most recently at M.I.S. in June of that year. 3. At least he is driving in cup. One of the drivers I predicted to drive in the 43. 4. Will even make his first Cup start, but his Xfinity ride will be no more after Pocono. He got his opportunity, proved everyone he can win and finish good with decent car, but it doesn't look very good for him right now. When Almirola comes back, where will Bubba go? It would be pretty sad to see him in some start & park car... 5. They didn't when Yates shut down, so I don't see why they would if Roush were to shut down. The engines have been pretty successful recently, and Ford would have to find another supplier to replace them. 18. I only watch sparingly now but I was bored this morning and poking around to what is going on this year(only watched Daytona). Anyway, can someone explain to my how a kid as young as Alex Bowman who was impressive as he was last year in limited action, 7 of 9 Top 10 in the minor league whatever it is called now and 3 Top 10 in only 10 cup starts and flat out dominating the Phoenix race, does not even have a single start in Busch or Cup rides? Seriously? Danica, Bayne, Stenhouse, and Menard off the top of my head in top tier rides who doesn't deserve them and that doesn't even count the ever growing list of back marker drives and teams that create a weak field in NASCAR. Talented Drivers getting pushed out of the sport because they aren't marketable is one of the many reason I gave up on the sport. I am guess this is what happened to Bowman as well? 19. The Other Anonymous posted: 06.07.2017 - 8:25 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Alex Bowman turned down other opportunities to race in lesser equipment so he could remain an employee and test driver for Hendrick Motorsports. His ride with JR Motorsports dried up because the team chose to hire Michael Annett and William Byron, meaning there wasn't any room to continue running the "All-Star" #88 car that Bowman and others raced last season. 20. Danica, Bayne, Stenhouse, and Menard off the top of my head in top tier rides who doesn't deserve them and that doesn't even count the ever growing list of back marker drives and teams that create a weak field in NASCAR." Then you should've become a NASCAR team owner. That way you can pay for unsponsored drivers like Bowman out of your own pocket if you want to....we'll see how long that lasts. 22. Josh posted: 06.07.2017 - 9:44 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) A lot of times, for drivers like Bowman, it's either drive junk and prove yourself, or get limited opportunities in good equipment at the Xfinity or Truck level. Bowman has chosen the latter, and right now there aren't any opportunities out there that he seeks. Also, Stenhouse has won a race this year, albeit at Talladega, but both he and Bayne have shown they belong out there this year. Menard, in my opinion, and this is coming from a fan of his, is a fringe second-tier driver, meaning he's good enough to be in the series, but his built-in sponsorship has probably given him a few more years than his results warrant. 23. Damon posted: 06.07.2017 - 9:53 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 'Also, Stenhouse has won a race this year, albeit at Talladega, but both he and Bayne have shown they belong out there this year.' Right, but the four previous seasons he finished 19th, 27th, 25th and 21st in points, averaging 4 top 10's year and never had more than 6 in any of those four seasons. 24. My only question is, why isn't the jackman suspended? He was the one that dropped the jack before the tire was secure. Likewise, why is the tire carrier suspended? What could he have done that would have prevented this from happening? 28. JSPorts posted: 06.08.2017 - 9:35 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) My thoughts exactly on the tire carrier. And I hate how the crew chief always gets thrown under the bus here. Nobody should be suspended, maybe a small penalty, but this was really nobody's fault. All it was was a miscommunication. 29. JSPorts posted: 06.08.2017 - 9:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) I don't believe so, but that was back when NASCAR wasn't so concerned about all this stuff with the wheels. I mean someone is suspended every week it seems for leaving a lug nut off the tire. So I guess they decided that someone who leaves the wheel off entirely deserves an even bigger suspension, which is just ridiculous. Also, why don't they suspend tire changers and carriers for missed lug nuts? 31. Corey posted: 06.08.2017 - 10:04 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @29 It's not NASCAR inconsistency. The rule didn't exist at the time and came about recently when the crew chiefs were only putting 4 lug nuts on the rims. Even then, the reason for rule and what happened on Sunday are not the same. Having to restart in the back with a damaged race car should have been enough of a penalty for the 18. 32. 1995 Subaru WRX STi posted: 06.08.2017 - 11:10 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think people needs a reminder of the whole lug thing. Some CCs were leaving lug nuts off on purpose for faster pit stops. Again on PURPOSE, INTENTIALLY doing it. NASCAR was however more then happy too police itself and for a time it did. Then in a ever so consistent manner, Smoke decided too open his pie hole and make it a safety issue (as did other drivers.) NASCAR fined him then put rules in place too prevent it. Dispite NASCAR let the teams police themselves (and we all know they didn't do that) So what do you people want? They are following a rule too the letter. But when don't follow a rule too the letter scream bloody murder and all other kinds of bombastic hyperbole. Some CCs did it, drivers complained and this is what we have. It is what you call buyers remorse. Be careful what you wish for. And I for one don't feel bad at all. And driver who does complain about it is a hypocrite because they most likely complained about the lug nut issue in the first place. 33. racefangurl posted: 06.08.2017 - 4:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) 26, Roush was top tier until about 2013, the last time they were fast before the dark days. However, they're on the way back. Second tier's as bad as I can rate them now. Unless they just have good race car drivers that make them look better than they are. I mean, they don't have Biffle to cater to this year. 34. Maverick19 posted: 06.08.2017 - 5:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "@29 It's not NASCAR inconsistency. IMO Kyle Larson is the best of the upcoming guys right now Then we have Ryan Blaney the 2nd best. Chase Elliott has been quieter this year so far in my opinion. Still young to determine if I like Daniel Suarez vs Erik Jones. I think they're both be alright together, though I might have to give Daniel Suarez the benefit of the doubt between the two. I see him more as a driver (Jimmie Johnson type) and Erik Jones as a racer (Kyle Busch type). 38. JSPorts posted: 06.09.2017 - 12:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't see Stenhouse as that much of a long-shot for the 88 ride. I think Buescher would be more of a stretch, because he frankly hasn't performed in the 37 car, probably won't make the Chase. Stenhouse is already in with his win. Buescher will be lucky to get a top-10 finish this season, I think expanding really hurt JTG. Obviously we know Allmendinger will be strong at the road courses, but there isn't a track I could see Buescher contending for a win or top-5 at except the plate races, but he's not a good plate racer. 39. JSPorts posted: 06.09.2017 - 12:04 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I still think Bowman is the favorite to land the 88 car, but Byron has got to be up there as sort of co-favorites. If they decide to go in the veteran route by sticking a vet in there for 1 or 2 years before Byron comes up, I think they'd go with either Carl Edwards, Elliott Sadler or Regan Smith (Greg Biffle could be a long shot here, too). And then there is the option of bringing someone in from a different team. To me, the favorites there would be Ricky Stenhouse, Kyle Larson and Brad Keselowski. Some long shots there could be Buescher, Matt Kenseth or Denny Hamlin (If JGR decides to replace one of them with Erik Jones) or Paul Menard (if the 88 team needs sponsorship for a lot of races.) 40. Kenseth is currently the first driver out of the Chase and the gap to Hamlin is only 27 points. At the moment none of these drivers IMO have shown enough speed that makes me think they will get a win (Yes even Joey. I feel his win at Richmond was dude to him getting around slower cars who stayed out under the last yellow faster than everyone else, not because he had a strong car) before the Chase starts. With Daytona and two road courses in Sonoma and Watkins Glenn coming up, I think there's a decent chance we might have someone like AJ, Dale Jr, Trevor Bayne, or even Kasey Kahne (he's been very good at the plate tracks this year) "steal" a win which would make it very hard for all of the first four driver I mentioned to make the Chase. 164. That's 8 drivers who I don't even think would be surprise winners, and then you have guys like Allmendinger, Bayne, Earnhardt, Buescher, etc. who have won on some of the upcoming tracks and could pull off an upset. Kyle is mentally weak and beats Ross Chastain's car built in an attached garage. Big whoop. 194. While everything's working fine, why changing it? Really stupid, but that's their logic. But whatever, title is a title no matter what - deal with it just like every JJ hater has to deal with the fact Jimmie got his 7th title on the silver platter... that's a weak title as well. And ever weaker in my opinion, because JJ was running horrible apart from Kyle, who was excellent since his return. 196. If they treated fans right, I wonder if I would still be standing, and not an RV parking lot now. 197. 1995z71 posted: 06.12.2017 - 1:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Funny Danica spent like 50 seconds explaining that she didn't have time to sign autographs instead of spending 50 seconds signing autographs. 198. That's racing, and it made it all the more exciting. This is the best racing to the finish of the year in my opinion. 203.
