With the long and varied history NASCAR has, I've long been wanting to see some form of historic NASCAR racing. Maybe original vehicles in more of a "display / exhibition" race format, or perhaps vehicles built using modern safety equipment (cages, seats, brakes etc) with older bodies - Look to the Australian Touring Car Masters for inspiration. I'd love to see NASCAR look into this sometime. 12. Win and you're in now doesn't secure the spot in the Chase and you still have to make it on points there (top 16). This or something way worse that will screw up everything again... 14. And that winner will be.... Erik Jones. When Martin Truex Jr., leading on the last lap at Richmond, gets the team orders on the radio to "accidentally" get a little loose and let Jones pass him for the win, after the JGR brain trust makes sure that Matt Kenseth is safely ahead of either Chase Elliott or Jamie McMurray in the points so as not to get bumped, of course. 15. Because he can't make it on points, NASCAR will make sure Erik Jones wins the race and have Matt Kenseth make it on points. Finally, to fill in the last spot, NASCAR will make sure that the second coming of Jesus a.k.a Chase Elliott gets into the playoffs, knocking the much more deserving driver of Jamie McMurray out. 44. Granted McMurray's career numbers are better, since he's been at it for 15+ years compared to Elliott's 2+, but if we look at just this year or just the last two years, Elliott has more top 5's, more top 10's, higher points position both years, and most significantly a huge advantage in laps led (which says Elliott is contending to win far more often. McMurray's 16 laps led this year and 0 last year implies he only leads due to flukes like green-flag pitstop timing). Bear in mind, I'm not a fan of either driver (I'm pulling for Blaney). I just can't find any stat or realistic criteria to say McMurray is more deserving. 46. 95McDowellFan (Goodbye) posted: 09.09.2017 - 5:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) I'm done on this website, I've just lost interest, I don't post much, so it probably doesn't matter, so bye everyone... 47. Even if that one-in-a-million chance somehow hits, Junior will be out of the playoffs after round 1 anyway. It will be a complete fluke if Earnhardt is even in position to contend for the win tonight, but I do think we very well might see some team orders come into play when it matters most, from the biggest team on the track. Think "#77 for the win!" Unlike Earnhardt, Erik Jones has the equipment to contend and (also unlike Earnhardt) 4 or 5 teammates who will be right up there also contending but who will get out of his way -- and block or move some other cars out of the way if necessary. If things line up just right as we approach the end of the race, let's see if several "itchy arms" suddenly occur and this miracle happens. It would be hilarious if it worked out just that way.... and then NASCAR decided to call the win encumbered because of the shenanigans, LOL. 49. (though they'll probably come up with a slightly tougher code to crack this time around), what else can they do? I assume the difference between making the playoffs and not doing so is a pretty decent chunk of $$$$. If a team in position to get a 5th car into the playoffs has a chance to make that happen with just a little bit of help from its employees, it will happen. It will be up to NASCAR to prove any foul play, which of course it won't be able (or perhaps willing) to do. 52. 42Fan posted: 09.09.2017 - 7:48 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Four-wide salute to the fans during the pace laps. 53. 42Fan posted: 09.09.2017 - 7:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Speaking of the race, Rutledge Wood is the honorary pace car driver. 54. 42Fan posted: 09.09.2017 - 7:48 pm Rate this comment: (1) (2) Listen to Comment #43. Everyone knows which drivers are racing for something and which aren't, the drivers are warned by NASCAR before the race, and they all pussyfoot around for 395 sleep-inducing laps, if not 400, keeping a respectful distance from other cars especially the "important" ones, and it makes for a real bore-a-thon. What constitutes a penalty in the first period of an NHL game is perfectly legal in the third period, depending on the score, the home team, and just how deeply the ref has swallowed the whistle. Offensive holding and pass interference can be called on EVERY SINGLE PLAY. It's up to the subjective judgment of the refs as to when they reach for a flag and when they don't. I'm almost amazed by the Touring Car Masters series down under but I'm not sure if it would work in the United States. The fast speeds attained on oval tracks make it a little too dangerous for racing with historic vehicles. If you wanted the look of throwback racers it might be better to just put recreation bodies on surplus current generation chassis. So Truex will start each round as follow R1: 2053 R2: 3053 R3: 4053 Should he win more stages and races the playoff points will be added on top of what he already has. Homestead is different. Straight up race between the Final 4. Best man wins. 195. JSPorts posted: 09.11.2017 - 3:41 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Yeah, I like this version of the system better. It's better to reward the guys who are consistent & winning throughout the year in the playoffs. 196. possum posted: 09.11.2017 - 5:08 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @172 - I beleive that means an owner has requested a number from NASCAR (possibly with the intent of entering a car, possibly just to retain a number for future use, as Roush is doing with the #16). Shelmerdine and Venture have competed in Cup in the past. Vukanovich is a west coast racer who's competed in the K & N series. I don't recognize Zimmerman. 197. It's worth noting though that Larson won the All-Star Race (and its qualifier) in 2019 during the stretch and also was often competitive and just unable to close the deal again until that Dover race. 202. His arch enemy Logano came within one position of knocking him out of the playoffs. 203. GoPM21 posted: 12.26.2019 - 1:03 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @202 What are you talking about?
