If you win a race do you automatically get locked in to the next round? Do you keep your points from the round before? I know I probably sound stupid but when you change it up every season it confuses many people 11. RoninDragon posted: 09.12.2017 - 11:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @10 I'm still trying to figure out as well, but from my understanding it is basically the same as the past 3 years where winning is a lock for the next round. Also, playoff points get carried over into each round, every time the actual points reset. For example, If Truex advances into the second round (and I'm assuming he will), he will carry his 53 playoff points into that round, and will continue to do so as long as he keeps advancing. I also believe drivers can earn playoff points in each playoff race as well, meaning they could possibly have more than when they started. I'm not sure that was a great explanation, but it's the understanding I have of this terrible chase/playoff/whatever you want to call it. 12. That organized chaos puts any tandem drafting Talladega race to shame. Mile and a half tracks are not the problem on the NASCAR side. The Daytona 500 and at least the other crown jewel races will have 40 cars. It won't be that much different from this year. Penske is expanding, Furniture Row is cutting back. It will all even out at the end. If there really is a surplus of charters available I could see LFR expanding to two cars, Ganassi to three or even a team from xfinity like Kaulig or JGL could go cup racing, if not that then Rick Ware or some other lesser-funded teams will end up with a charter which would be great financially for them. 44. Scott B posted: 09.15.2017 - 12:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Charters still have some value based on the way payments are made from the NASCAR points fund to the teams (for example, a 30th place finish with a charter pays more than the same finish by a non-chartered team). I agree, they are nearly meaningless as far as the guaranteed starting positions, which was supposed to be the main benefit to teams. Outside of the highest profile races like the Daytona 500 or the Brickyard, you won't see many weeks with more than 40 entries. Teams with charters are required to run full time to keep those charters, so if any current part-time teams buy in, they'll have to show up every week (but if they are unsponsored, don't expect them to do much more than show up). I do think we'll still have 36 chartered entries for 2018, though some of them may be very, very uncompetitive. 45. Damon posted: 09.15.2017 - 12:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Avg. Danica is basically Shawna Robinson with a better p.r. agent. A bit unfair perhaps, but Shawna was in absolute garbage equipment during her brief fling at Cup racing. Patty Moise didn't set the world on fire in the Busch series but she drove junk too. Maybe those two women weren't as talented as Danica, but they weren't much worse and they never even had a sniff of equipment that's 75% as good as Danica has had nearly her entire NASCAR career. Even the TBR stuff from 2012 was far better than the BAM crap Shawna had. There are some seemingly talented female drivers at the lower levels of NASCAR right now, and if they are willing to pay their dues and advance through the ranks of the trucks & Xfinity they may get a shot someday. 72. If you want to look at inspiring women, and yes it's a different discipline, Shirley Muldowney of NHRA fame inspired more women to take up a sport that's still dangerous than Danica did, plus Shirley raced against and beat the best on any given round and came back from a brutal crash. She deserves recognition. That's be like putting.....say.....me, in a JFR funny car and then when I suck saying oh but he's inspiring more people to drag race. Or for an Indycar analogy, Pippa Mann or Kat Legge, Kat is more famous for her aerobatics than any racing form in open wheel but she's turning into one hell of a sportscar racer at times, and Pippa is making headlines for video games and getting blasted by drivers. Danica hsn'hasn't lived up to the hype, she is a female version of Dario Franchitti honestly or Casey Atwood. On the plus side, at least nobody's suggesting Erin Crocker for HoF...yet. I mean if Danica gets in....Erin will probably get in by virtue of who she's married to, right? Also, I do think a talented female driver will come along in the coming years or decades but the numbers are stacked against women in top level auto racing, except, oddly, the NHRA where they thrive for whatever reason, and do very, very well. 73. Like Logano is all the way up in 11th, yet is 17th in the playoffs. Austin Dillon moves up from 19th to 12th. 185.
